UV-map weirdness 1 2

Having experienced some strange behavior when handling UV-maps in A:M, I am wondering if I am doing something wrong, or this is a bug. It goes like this: 1. I make a (in this case very simple) model in A:M. 2. Exporting the model (without UV's) as an .OBJ 3. Importing the model into 3DCoat. 4. ...and gets this automatic UV unwrapping. 5. Still in 3DCoat I then paint something on the model. 6. And export the model as an .OBJ with enclosed Targa color map. 7. Back into A:M I import... 8. ...and gets this distorted result - even if I render the model. The projection bulges and weave, and t…

Three talented winners of the Insect Image Contest will be awarded a medal for their achievement. That means there needs to be a medal! Currently the plan is to 3D print the prototype, create a mold and cast it in actual metal of some sort. First draft of a design for the Award Medal. Additional suggestions welcome, of course

I have a question that I have just begun to notice. I have applied ver 19j and now each time I save a project I have a new set of folders for each save. Each save has several sub folder. The main folder is titled the name of the project and then a series of numbers that I could not decode. Under the folder there are usually two folders. The first is a capital letter such as E with a dash, so E-. Its contents are then followed with another folder with the name of the project and its folder has the project file. The second main folder under the top is labeled the name of the pc such as Steve-PC. Under its folder are several folders. one has a listing the the…

This is a Wings3D import of a 3DS model of the Master Chief character from the Xbox game "Halo". Master Chief A:M model About all I can get it to do is load. Neither the bones nor the skin made it across the translation. Anyway, is there any way at all to get this mesh rigged? I wouldn't know where to start on something like this. Is there any way to kind of spline "over" it to make a true A:M model instead of a poly mesh? It's for an amateur fan video a bunch of friends and I are making for the Halo 2 launch in November. If anybody has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate them. If there are any professionals out there, how much would a…

Went through my pc and came across an older project where I made a base female body (for something to work off from). So I decided to make my griffon project again which was why I was inspired to make the base body. Here is the finished head attached to my base body. Might be pointying her ears, I haven't decided yet. This is my first female head ever after I don't know how many years of modeling. I think it looks pretty good. Not perfect, but pretty good. Next to build clothing and armor for my griffon rider. Comments welcome .

Kevin is new character I've been working on. Here's a very short and very rough little animation to test his facial setup - the brows are yet to be rigged. I fancied a change in style and wanted to go for something more cartoony so I set about building my very own muppet. This has been a tinker project for the last month or so with other things taking up the majority of my time so progress has been a little slow. I managed to decypher and implement the bones facial rig that Mr Navone and Mr Freeman have been flaunting. For anyone wishing to give it a go I can only say that: a. it's an absolute beauty b. once you start to build it, it becomes very …

No idea why I didn't try this earlier but retopology is so much easier than trying to 'fix' imported models WIP: The beauty of retopology is that it forces you to 'learn' spline topology without having to concentrate on making a model. Cheers

I don't know whats really been going on lately.. I have projects that are going no where and seem to not understand what to work on.. So basically for the past few months I have had nothing to do.. So i wanted to get back to the animation I love.. even if its just for my own fun.. I decided to go with General Grievous.. a model I've been wanting to do since i just started my star wars movie project (a movie sadly to say may never be done...). but I wanted to go a different way with it this time.. as many of you may notice.. when I do WIP's I usually show you a LARGE chunk of the model done.. then minor tweeks.. or just finished parts of the model till the whole thin…

This is a scene from one of the episodes I'm working on. Super Mega Fox is patrolling the city and Arnold who thinks she's an evil monster, is constantly trying to end her. Unfortunately for him things never go right. In fact, she never even notices his efforts. The models Arny Head and Hulk were combined to create the model. Produce.mp4

He're what I've gotten so far. I'm endevoring to actually finishing this one unlike my previous projects i start and well. . . loose. Either physically lost it due to HD failure, or lost it cause i swiched platforms and can't seem to get my previous work of my old machine. . well here's the new girl.

I started a new project of modeling my favorite bicycle. I could not stop, and I am half way there. I just wanted a basic bike for myself, and then make a Black Op version of my recumbent bike for the zombie /end of the world survival road warrior bike. I manage to get the basic bike patch count to 12,000 and I try to not get too detailed on it. I have not rig it yet! Took me a day and a half to get this far. One of the thing I learn from this is to model the pieces in a separate model window, and then once you got it, copy and paste to the main model window. I test the bike with another character and it fits really well with real world scale character. She is 5'1" fee…

Been hard to decide what to work on for the Fall 2020 Image contest! But think I'm settled on this awkward guy. He is something I sketched up a number of years ago. Every so often when I rifle through my hard drive he resurfaces and I think it will be cool to make him in 3d, but then get busy with something else and he gets shelved..... again. So anyway... here goes the more serious attempt to bring him to life.

Hi there, it's been a while since I been on here, anyways, I need some help. I am trying to make a movie (non-profit) and I need some models built. Naturally, I would build them myself, but because it's supposed to look good, I won't do it, as my models are crap! Anyways, here are some reference pics, but I wouldn't use them as rotoscopes as they're not to scale or anything like that. Anyways, I would really appreciate somebody building me things. There will be other ships that need to be built, but they haven't been designed yet. It would be nice to have this look as professional as possible, so that means textures, details etc. There are no set dimen…

It's been a while since I've done any real modelling in A:M. Stian's Cathedral and Eric's Nautilus and Millenium Falcon have inspired me to give it a go again (that and the carpal tunnel is doing pretty good right now). I had modelled the Discovery from 2001 - A Space Odyssey in a poly modelling program a while ago, and thought it would be great to get back into modelling in A:M with. So, here goes nothing... 2001 is one of my all time favorite Sci-fi films. It even still looks great watching it today. I first created an 'inner hull' sphere. It is relatively low in patches, as most of it won't even been seen. Next, I created a very high patch (over 4…

***Warning Graphics Intensive - Loading Images... *** Alright, time to get serious. Here is what I plan to keep my focus on for the immediate future. The parameters leave me a lot of room to experiment and learn how to put together a movie. Not to mention experiment with a full spectrum of modeling, action, fx, and testing, testing, testing... At it's core is the germ of an idea: John Henderson said he liked it so... It's got to be worth pursuing I'm thinking. Tentatively my overarching title is simply: My Robot Movie This forum is the inspiration. I'll try to credit where credit is due... and learn from my mistakes. Wish me luck…

I was getting to make a show using A:M and I looked at the stills (to get some ideas). There was my very favourite A:M stock model created in '96 by Rich Lovato! Unfortunately, it is not available in the new A:M versions and I realy need to have a coppy from an old A:M user, so I posted some images with this "COOL GUY". Please, post it! I need to use this model, but please don't update him, because I use v1.11d+. And I don't have an old A:M CD, and that is why I need it (the whole model).

This 'Manhattan Project' I am doing for Shawn Rogers (NewGuy) is coming along really nice... I decided that to do a proper NYC you need to also model what lies across the rivers... which is Staten Island, Brooklyn, Jersey, the Bronx and the Atlantic Ocean... among others. (Bridges, Statue of Liberty, ships...) The project is for the Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls... and next I will be modeling their stadium... so the zoom can continue right into midfield! Texturing is minimal... all is heavily stylized... just needed to capture the 'feel' of the city. I will render a high res over the holiday weekend with particle trees, reflections and shadows at 720P…

This is my first attempt at a car. Had to take a break from modeling my T-Rex. Didn't know where to start, so I started to model the view most people would see if they ever got close to one in real life. It shouldn't be hard to figure out which car this is - I hope And yeah, I know the lighting sucks.

A soundpost is a wooden support that fits between the front and back of a string instrument like a cello. The exact placement of it is a mysterious art involving much trial and error. However, because the front and back are not parallel surfaces, you have to create a new sound post of a different length if you want your soundpost in a different spot. Matching the slope of the interior surfaces is also difficult. This is my vision of an adjustable length sound post that could be put anywhere. The center is a "jack screw" which has opposing threads on each side. Turning it would push or pull the two wooden parts. The ball joints at the ends are held together by…

HI everyone, it's been awhile I guess! As some of you may know, I put computer animation aside about four years ago after learning and working in A:M for over ten years, to focus on learning traditional cel animation. I've got one project, "Sexy Texie", that has been making the rounds of film festivals for the past year. You can see it on Vimeo. I tried to add a link here, but the post got wonky! I'm working on a new one, a poem about an eight year old boy who builds his own hydrogen-powered race car to enter in the big race. They won't let him enter because he's only eight, but he decides to enter anyway. I've got this one shot that I'm unable to draw by hand, and R…

But I think I'm on the right track now (maybe) I've also got one other body thats not near as beafy, but I like him being more hulk like. I think this ones got legs ( goat legs but those still count right?) Opinions, rips, and general constructive criticism is greatly appreciated. Ohhh and even though I love his skin.. its probably going to have to change (at least the method) this material took over 9 hours to render one frame at 16 passes [attachmentid=14239] …

I was charged yesterday afternoon with doing a graphic for a presentation. One of those "Step 1, Step 2, Step 3..." type of deals. My other work was slow, so I asked the boss if I could go home and do it in 3D. It's overkill for the job, but I thought it would be fun to do and foolishly believed I could knock it out in a couple of hours and get off work early. I finished it around 10pm last night. So that didn't work out exactly as planned, but on the plus side, putting together a complicated scene was a great learning experience. I had a fairly rocky false start, but learning from that, I started over again fresh and tried to do things in a more organized, sma…

It's been a long long time since I've posted any personal work - and I have now started re-fooling around (got my ver 15 back - woo hoo - me happy camper) - Here's the start of a character that I will probably use in one of the short animations I have in mind to do. The character is a modified Ork model being used in Scarecrow of Oz - designed by Alain Desroucher, modeled by Ken Heslip, rigged by Mark Skodacek, modified, textured, feathered by me. it's not finished. My intent with doing a sequence of short hopefully humorous vignettes is to develop & loosen up my animation style, and get a better grasp on short (1-5 minute) story telling via pantomime, o…

Its going to be a 3D version of a German comic character: Die kleine Gruftschlampe. I am in touch with the creator Tikwa and doing a full 3d version of that character. I am not able to post a full picture of the character yet, but just google it. So far I did the cloth. I have attempted to model a real person. You can see the head only on the first .MOV and then the same model with a torso, etc. in the second .MOV. I modeled the head, hair, and props, and borrowed liberally for the torso from a model called Marie Claire/Sister M that was donated by Klaus-Uwe Schomann. Thanks Klaus. I was not concerned with realism at this stage. I just want to see if the person is recognizable before I go in and clean up the modeling and decals. Does anyone know who it is? I really compressed the size of the video, so I hope it is good enough. F2_2.mov F1_2.mov

So, I am now in my last two quarters, and for my Senior Project (a 2 quarter course) I have been given the green light to re-make a very old animation I did years ago. The original piece (keep in mind, I was working on borrowed computers and living on a friend's couch at the time) is posted below: garrett.mov My original poem will remain the same, but I was never happy with the way this one turned out. My instructor is very excited about the piece. I'll be doing all the character work in A:M and building sets in Photoshop to composite in AE. My major is Visual Effects & Motion Graphics, so I do want to keep the animation somewhat stylized, but not quite so..…

I know this sounds crazy, but I have an idea for a kids book and I'm going to go ahead with it. I'll publish on Createspace. It will be about an old woman who lives on her roof. Lots of morales built in but I can't say too much on that. I'm trying to come up with illustrations.....of which there'll be about 25. I'm heading in the direction of a sort of a 3D tactile felt feel. I'm not sure but it could be the right direction. It's all flat "south park" style which is good for speed. This attached image is just a basic test of the style. I'd be interested in any thoughts.

Here is a project I worked on quite a while ago that I have decided to pull off the shelf and remake with my newer technology (faster Mac and Hash for OS X) and a little (not much) more experience. The story line is being revised and I'm going to make an attempt create it as one whole piece. I'm not going for visual superiority here, I just use simple, but nice models, camera tricks (city with only a few buildings filmed from different angles and with layers...), and maybe a lower frame rate. In this presentation everything is done in Hash except for a couple backgrounds and one cut scene, which are done in Bryce. In the new version I'm going to use a combo of Hash and Li…
