Hey everyone, I recently stated elsewhere that I was going to take the comments I got on my demo reel to heart and rework it so that I incorporated all the suggestions. Well, I haven't done that yet, because I decided to build myself a Tyrannosaurus rex. I always wanted to, and now is as good a time as any. Comments welcome! http://www.dinocarl.com/aesthetics/theropo.../trexbellow.jpg Carl

I just posted this at cg talk and figure I would post here too... So after years of staring at the cereal box, I figured I'd try and put together a model of Tony the Tiger. This is a movie clip of his head. Everythig is geometry, except his mouth, which is a texture map for the moment. I want to see if I can model his mouth in there while staying true to the illustrated version... Anyhows, if you get a minute check it out.... for you sticklers on detail... I know I'm missing the nostrils at the moment! I plan on modelling the whole body too, but I want to figure out the mouth before.... http://www.3dartz.com/WIPs/TTA.mov Mike Fitz www.3dartz.com

Finished this up a couple days ago. It's basically a ninja egg dodging a bullet with a backflip. I really wanted to just play around with bullet time and slo-mo. And it was pretty simple character to model and rig. Works pretty good as far as animating goes too. Anyway, just a little contibution to the community. Enjoy. Egg.wmv

After a lot of thought and debate I have given myself the green light to start this project. I wanted something short and doable within a six month time line. So with these thoughts in mind I have the following planned. A story that requires... -Only one character model. -Only two set models. -Only 5 prop models. And that's it. I have the story written already. It's based off of a longer script I have planned for the future. I wanted to do a small trailer like project but make the trailer a story in itself. So far the story would only be about 2 minutes long which I think is very much achievable. Keep in mind that this will not be my primary project. …

Ok, I don't know how I got started on this late at night, but we were reading Go, Dog, Go! It's always been one of my favorite books when I was a kid and I loved their cars. I thought it might be easy to model so here is what I came up with. First time playing with materials too. I'll want to play around with it some more later, make some rubber for the tires, seats in, steering wheel and grille, few other things. C&C welcome

I thought I'd just share a current WIP of one of the characters for Red Squad. I seem to be getting closer to conquering facial texturing which I'm quite proud of I must say The problem with how I did it though was that I only had two angles so in the future I would get more angles out of the actors before creating their facial map

I'm currently working on a project for school where I have to make some kind of room, in this case I'm making it an expensive condo in hawaii. I want it to look as photorealistic as I can. I'll have pictures very soon, I'm really happy with how its turning out! Anyways, I just have a quick question, one of the props is a wine bottle. I have the model all laid out now I'm working on the materials. I cant get the light to refract right through the glass! Is there any way to do this? I've tried the refraction and density setting, but they just dont cut it.. has anyone dealt with this before? Thanks! ::EDIT:: Alright I want to start this off with a picture, so …

Right now I'm using the print screen method on my Decals, then painting them in PhotoShop or PaintShop Pro. However, the screen captures are all jaggy and make it impossible to make a clean detailed map at the edges. Does the Painter Program solve this issue? Can you get even edges on a spline?

Hey there, I just finished this animation for the Art of Animation Tutorial. I first did the lipsync (manually...I didn't really like the results from the dopesheet) and then did the rest of the animation in the Choreography. Here is the Hi-res version (about 3MB). Kee Kat Secret Hi-Res And a lower res version (250kb). Kee Kat's Secret I really want critiques/comments on how to make it better. I feel like I am at a point where I can make the characters "move around" but I want to start getting to where I can really make them have a believable performance. Any help is appreciated. Here is the link to the basic lipsync animation...the…

I wasn't sure if this fits in radiosity or showcase, so i'm putting it in both (better than neither right?) The pop-bot and that amazing render Brian Prince did, inspired me to try some radiosity of my own. I don't think it's as good as theirs . . . but it's mine 32 lights for the sun, 15000 photons, max samples, 7hrs 40 min. Odd shadow thing i noticed with the shadow of the tree

I am studying a BA in Digital Media. So far, so good. I've got through the first two years. Now, when I start my third and final year, one thing we have been warned of in advance is a Specialised Study project. We've got plenty of time to plan and I want to make the most of it. I have decided to make an interactive Macromedia Director based project, based on the well-known game of Cluedo. Influenced by Hasbro Interactive games, you get to solve the mystery by actually searching the rooms for clues, questioning the suspects and viewing flashbacks of previous events. I plan to make it a parody, calling it Crazy Cluedo and making it funny. The suspects have the mo…

I used A:M these last 2 weeks to procure and animate a semi-technical animation for a sales presentation on a new brand of cat litter. The thing they wanted to see was a granule of litter extremely close-up, and how the pores in the granule absorb, trap and contain the cat urine droplets. Features used in A:M... I used a Simbiont material called 'Chocalate Mine' and baked the results... turned a color map from the 'bake' to a high displacement map to get the 'craggy' finish. MatCaps were used on the droplets and the aqua shield that grows around the granule. A boolean-cutter was used for the reveal of the sphere. To get the small yellow spheres to look like orbu…

I've been trying to animate something like this in 2D, so i made this little study in A:M to better understand the timing and poses. I've written some notes on it so you can see some of my reasoning in working thru it. X = extreme poses B = breakdown poses. These are added after the extremes to add overlap between poses or to make arcs better stuff in green is extra polishing things jumpnotes.mov

Hello friends I felt like doing some experimenting the other day. I had a photo of New York taken from the Empire State building The photo is taken by a friend and colleague of me, Johanna Vaart So, I wanted to see if I was able to convert the photo to an anaglyph using A:M. First I used PFHoe, to "track" the photo, by doing so I got the camera position and angle, then I started to create simple proxymodels and placed them accordingly with the photo. When done I made a depthmap using fog. In PhotoShop I used the depthmap as a displacementmap to skew the red channel to the left and green and blue channel to the right. I also made a "tilt-shift miniature" vers…

This is the "glam shot" of the Albertasaur Skeleton Joe Cosman modeled for eggprops a while back. I just re-vamped it a little and added it back on eggprops. I must say it is pretty amazing how much work went into this thing. The tail controls alone are kind of mind blowing. Looks pretty sexy too. You can check it out <here>. And. . . Larry I promise I'll get cracking on the others ASAP.

I got a chance to do a test to try to win some 3D work, I had 1 day to show I can do a pre-designed Female groundhog for the national 'Miss Dig' campaign. A:M got me from spline1 to finished render in about 7 hours... modeling, texturing, rigging (TSM2) animating and rendering(with FastAO). Sure- there's room for improvement, but I think a test like this in 1 day is 'spankin' !!! MissDig_1_Day_TEST.mov

I'm tapping into the old caverns of the brain and I think I remember there being a demo movie out there that was on one of the original A:M demo reels called "Blocks" or "marbles" or something like that. It was a movie that had a bunch of marbles riding down roller coaster tracks the a block trying to do the same and smashing through a wall. Does this ring a bell with anyone and if so where could that be found? Thanx

Bought some perforated steel plates to use with stop frame work, noticed the moire effects when one moved over the other and thought,"Ill photo that". It was too cold to venture out doors ( by UK standards anyway ), so decided to try something similar in AM using cookie cutter decals.Managed to make about 35 over two days. Here are a few of them. Apologies for large file sizes. Grid One was the first one, Two grids, one using circular hole, the other square holes. There was about 10 of those in different settings. Then added colour and different grids.Grid Fourteen and G27 give an indication of those. Then, last night, thought to try cookie cu…

I just completed a job to produce two one-minute animations about water salinity, osmosis, and fish, for a museum kiosk. I was given the soundtrack, 3ds models of a fresh and saltwater fish, and 10 days to design, model, animate, render (at 1024x768), add close-caption text, and composite the animations. I'm satisfied with the results (the client is thrilled), considering the time limitation (with one person, one computer). I used just about everything in A:M's box of tricks to pull it off. Low-res renders can be seen here (4MB Sor3 QT): http://www.digins.com/jack/s2f_small.mov http://www.digins.com/jack/f2s_small.mov Here is one of the 2D animatics I thr…

Well, I went as far as I was going to go with this project. I'm supposed to be learning animation not building cars, so I stopped tweaking. I learned a lot by doing it, the next time I do a car I'll do a bunch of things different. I was going to decal a second version to be a kind of formula 1 racing car, I may still do that for fun - with sponsorships on it and the whole deal. Anyway, here is my first rendered still, the car is pretty much complete as I said. This is using one of Yves 25 light skylights with a 16 pass render. I don't think its centered but oh well. Took about an hour to render. I'll do a couple more from different angles and post them whe…
