I've never been extremely good at modeling faces of people. Cartoon characters and such I do so-so. I've been doing ALOT of modeling lately in case you're watching the forums and one of the many things I'm working on is faces. I was wondering if you guys would mind criting my work and letting me know how it looks so far and how I can make it look better. Thanks.

Just got my main computer up and running again. This is a WIP that I'll be posting my progress on and off. Photorealism is very difficult.

Ok so, I'm working on a school project and I'm having some trouble. I haven't had too much experience in the choreography window. I have an action where my character is walking (and its constrained to a path). Then I want him to stop and do another action. What I've been doing is importing the other action after the first one is complete. But instead of stopping, both actions end up occuring on the same path. And instead of the first action finishing at the end of the path, it finishes in the middle. And the part where he is supposed to stop ends up taking place over the rest of the path. I tried to explain it clearly. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it…

Old Demo Reel -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hey guys, so in the process of updating my site and cleaning house in a computer sense of things, I came upon my old demo reel. Old in that I made it back in 2002 when I was interested in working in an animation studio. I probably should have just sent the thing into outerspace, as the results would have been the same. Now that I look back at it, it is no surpise as the reel isn't specifically geared towards one skill set. If I were to remake one today, I'd make it just about character rigging, with a slight emphasis on modelling.....But I thought that the…

I've decided to start practicing animating to dialogue pieces...in the zip you'll find a quicktime movie of the basic blocking... the sound only comes out of the left channel and that's crappy..I have to figure that one out.... Formula.zip

Best to right click and download so that the animation can be looped. Thanks go to Mark Skodacek for very kindly offering to rig this character with his always evolving rig and doing a fantastic job. Oh and the character was created by George Laban. George is testing out the rig also. McSpookemWalk

Hello Everyone! I would like to share some recent work i have done! I did these three models for a game, but it turned out that Version incompatability halted the process. I do hear that the production is well on its way again. There is a sniper rifle, a shotgun, and a pistol (futuristic). I need to check a few things first, but i would like to donate these to the community, I don't have any use for them, and i am pretty sure that alot of people would like to play with them Ben

Hi, I have been using A:M since about August, thereabouts and this is easily the most fun I have ever had with a computer! I have to say though, I am overwhelmed with all the different things that a single person can do with A:M and all the thousand little things that need to go in to even a simple animation (i.e., lighting, models, perspective, sets, backgrounds, music, sound effects, etc...) Having said all of that, and after these last few months of trying one thing, only to give up on it and move on to something else new in A:M and then back again... I have FINALLY mangaged to keep myself focused on one project and have put together something longer th…

"You've never seen a ball bounce like this"-AO Scott, New York Times "Two Thumbs Up"-Ebert & Roeper "Filled with shock, suspense and special effects this is the year's must see movie"-Sid Smith, Chicago Tribune "Visually Stunning"-Eric Harrison, Houston Chronicle It's attached for all who want to see. Seriously, as much as I wanted to jump in and do my Pixar like, Emmy Nominated, Four Star, SIGGRAPH standing ovation, tour de force of a movie I took advice from some animation books (and animators on the web) to start with the obnoxious bouncing ball exercise. So I did. Feel free to comment. Note that I have not tried to put an…

Been working on this for a couple of weeks, trying to make a realistic face model splined on the principles in Jason Osipa's book. Didn't really set out to make a self-portrait, but I knew my face would always be available for comparisons while I worked on it. Right now I'm stuck trying to make a decent ear before I CFA the other half. Once it's done, I'll try painting a skin (color, bump, specularity, etc.) from scratch.

I was just poking around today with decals and how I can use them to breath life into a character. So far, I was able to give my simple "2 patch count" ninja model about five facial expressions, it worked for his eyes so I know it'll work for his mouth phonemes although I didn't bother making them. Just curious in what some of you think about it... quickface.mov

This is my Ship. This image was created in 2002 for the "blue" image contest, but I missed the deadline because I messed up the date in my head by a day. Bummer. But obviously it's an older version of the model (my computer is getting fixed up right now, I'll be able to post some better stuff in a few days), so it's definately come a long way. Let me know what you think (about the ship... the gun and rose were just for added effect, taking into account the name of the contest) OK so the current working/moving features on the ship are: -Landing gear w/ doors that open/close -Pop up weapon systems (it's a fighter, I'll explain what it's for later..) -Belly hatc…

Here's a rather simple and sort of boring little still from my new film. The only "real" thing in this image is the puppets... the rest is CG. Does it look alright to you all. I'm pretty satisfied with it. Just like to get some thoughts. (I have to go back in post and erase those nasty green halos off of my little guys) Thanks, Justin

I got tired of getting bogged down in modeling and texturing to get to the animating part, so I made this super simple character and took a whack at it. Here's what I came up with in one run through. It definitely needs refining. Any help with the timing and just communcation aspects especially would be greatly appreciate. hungry fridge wip. -Nathan

Hi Splinemeisters, Nothing special. Just made a female GenMan. Have an animation of her using a slightly altered action used for GenMan walk. I think I'm going to revise GenMan a little, there are some things I overlooked in that model, that I fixed in MrsGenMan. Should be posting her soon. WmanLg.mov

I'm struggling with how to actually contstruct some basic models and where to put the bones to best effect. As an example, see the attached caterpillar...a VERY basic character, yet, when I take the bone ending right in the middle of his back, pull straight up to create a tall hump in the middle as he's crawling, the skin deforms horrible and creates very nastly flaps of skin overlapping and going inside of one another. I've applied smart skin and tried to clean up the kinks, but based on the amount of time it's taking to try and deal with this, I'm wondering if inherently I've approached construction and adding bones from a very inneficient angle. The character's pr…

Just thought that I would post a link to my ball guy outside Dagoos' cool animation thread. I haven't had a chance to fool with Pesto's ball, but it looks pretty cool. I made a few updates for better knee and heel control, but there is no extra controllers for you to worry about. www.chrisolsen.org/ballman.zip I think having a little competition using simple models like this would be a good idea for a future hash animtion contest.

Just a 'work in progress' view of the opening scene of an animation I hope I will one day finish and posting updates here may help with the motivation in achieving that goal. Nothing in the picture is finished, much still needs decals, textures, etc and more models need to be created. There will be an old 1930's style truck, more rocks, some grass and the gumtree will have more branches. The main character is currently under construction and when finished I'll upload a pic. The story is of a lonely preteen boy who dreams of rockets and having a friend his age and who lives on an isolated farm in 'outback' Australia with his Red Army veteran Grandpa.

Hey guys - if anyone is interested the first anim for C2 software guy is up on their company site (which I already posted before, but just from my site) They had me do two funny "chat" animations (upper right corner of site) - "on" for when it was avail and "off" for when not avail http://www.c2crm.com/ Here is the second anim that I hadn't posted yet, which I think is completed w/ voice over and a pic of the 3 characters http://www.3dcharacteranimation.biz/patton/ Have a great rest of the weekend - Eric

Working or should I say goofing with the hair system and trying to come up with decent settings for a Man in a Gilly Suit ....on this attempt, the model is an altered version of the mannequin model found on the forum or is that one of the extra CD/DVD ? then I applied a camo material to most of his body. and to attempt to control the density of the hair I applied 2 decals, black on the front and white on the back ...... I don't like the way it looks yet ......attempting an animation at the moment to see how it reacts with motion....I think it may be a little limp, not enough stiffness....... Mike Cossey

Save me! was the topic at the animation showdown on wednesday. Or character was stranded on a desert island and had to get the attention of passing ship or plane. Since then I've reworked some of the animation, and added gratuitous lighting and materials. In other words, this looks nothing like what i had going at the four hour deadline. See it on my showdownpage

This is my rendition of the New NASA moon rocket. The idea came from the NASA website under the heading "How we'll return to the moon." It's very informative with a great animation. Some of you may wish to check it out. As far as my model uis concerned it's patch intensive (Slightly more than 7500) and my computer is slowing down. I'll have to find a way around that beause it's hardly finished. Ed

Inspired by the fantastic Mascot work Pequod did for Briar. Pequod provided somewhere some great close up shots of the face of Briar. With this as inspiration plus the number 28 Face Tutorial Video by Dan Shimmyo available on ARM, I have begun my first semi-realistic head.

I run a lip-sync music video class at my kids elementary school. I wanted to have an opener, or whatever you call them, like Disney's castle or Dream Works boy in the clouds. What is that short studio ID bit called anyway? The school is called Charles Dickens and our team mascot is the Dicken's Dragon, so I made our video logo with a fire breathing dragon. The compression makes it look a bit rough. You can see it here, 1.4 meg, streams well over highspeed: http://www3.telus.net/imagestreamstudio/te...n_logo_full.mov I'd like to tweak it and change it a bit for each video, so any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

I have been working on one of my alternate funny endings for my Cluedo parody project. This ending shows butler/undercover inspector/narrator (Earle Grey/Fred Herring) cleaning the windows. He concludes, inviting the player to come back again sometime, then turns to rinse the window - only to find that somebody just opened the window! I really wanted to do this one, so I experimented with particle systems. The first experiment was with Blobbies. I wasn't happy with it. For a start, it took far too long to render - and besides the water looked more like gello. The second experiment was with Streaks, which I have used. I am pleased with it. I achived th…

Hey guys. I've finished with a one-eyed alien guy. I have a question about decals though...how come black won't show up in decals? is there a way to disable this? It wasn't a problem in this model, but in the future I know it will be...I'm saving the decals as a Jpeg. Do you think that's why? I also am pretty much finished rigging this guy...though I have a couple of questions about that that i'll ask later. Keep your eyes open for some animations

Just an image I've been working on with MJL. Somehow, I don't think I would win against this lady The Nimmee Aimee model was modeled by Jim Talbot for our very own "Tin Woodman of Oz" movie. I made a few adjustments, but it is still Nimmee. edit: I believe she was rigged by mtpeak2 and possibly textured by NancyGormezano, but I'm not sure about that. Anyway, Nimmee was truly a community effort.
