I'm starting to model Bal Loons throne based on this image: Throne I'd like to try and keep the patch count low so I'm trying render as lines. Should I go this route? As far as I can see render as lines doesn't seem to cast shadows. Also, there's that problem of the thickness changing depending on how far your viewing from. Any recommendations?

this is for a school project...must be done by the end of tomorrow...with texturing and possibly some animation...not to mention a brief description (late night up ahead). This is it so far...many patches, much detail (main requirement is "realism" and "detail") This is my basic reference: and progress so far:

I did some more work with Instant Meshes program. It appears the -align to boundaries- button helps to get the output quads where you want them. This is especially helpful when you want to -copy/flip/attach- later in A:M. Attached are two pictures and a short .MOV that I made with an imported .OBJ of a spaceman. I can see that the models are not pretty, but because they are small and smooth, you can get useful results. The whole process of importing an .OBJ into Instant Meshes, outputting the reconfigured .OBJ and importing it into A:M only takes a minute or two. The pictures show the original .OBJ on the left and the Instant Meshes version on the right. …

I'm pleased to announce that my short film "The Cell-Phone," winner of the first Mini-Movie contest, will receive its film festival premiere at the D.C. Shorts Festival on Thursday, September 14, 2006. This is a newly re-rendered and revised version, produced with a lot of help from A:Mers Jeff Lee, Mike Stamm, Glenn Antofer, and Rhett Jackson. In addition, my films "<ESC>" and "Soap Opera" will be showing at the first annual Idaho Panhandle International Film Festival in Sandpoint, Idaho. The festival runs from August 24-26.

I'm getting these weird artifacts when I try and render the image out with Depth of Field. Notice the two sacs in the back are blurred but have a black line near the edge. Also, i tried rendering out another image with Depth of Field and a volumetric light in the foreground. Everything was blurred except the part of the image that was behind the volumetrics.... Any ideas why? Using Pentium 4, 512 RAM, 2.56 Ghz and AM 10.5... Thanks for any help!

Hey everybody, It's time once again to post my latest work in progress, a T rex skeleton. For anyone who knows me (or even my handle), this won't come as the slightest bit of surprise. Several years ago, I completed a T rex skull, and I always wanted to complete the skeleton, especially since Joe Cosman's Albertasaur is such an amazing model and has long been a wonderful bit of inspiration. So here we go: The goal at this point is get as many pieces made and in place. I am going for fidelity to my source material, but not extreme levels of detail. This is obviously a subjective standard, so I apologize in advance for inconsistencies along the way. However, becau…

I'm starting a new thread for my Oz wips so that I don't clog up the Movie forum with my stuff. Plenty of room there for other people to post their ideas though. This is still a rough walk cycle but it's close to the tired trudge that I was after. Not quite but close. Still playing with dynamics, still need to sort out the stiffness of the walk and fix the way the backpack reacts. No facial rig yet, that's the next step.

I have been working today and have had a great deal of rendering crashes. It seems to deal with hair, and cookie cutter decals and version 19. It renders in 18 but in 19 as soon as I hit render AM crashes. I have pulled elements out of my project to see where the problem comes from, but now 19 will not even load the project without crashing. It has been a rough night.

Hey all, I still haven't talked to Martin about this issue, but I figure that I'd switch around some obvious things, if for nothing else than to have a little fun! Here's the corny story I came up with: Cameron Keene, part-time marine, was enlisted by the shadowy group Nightrun Inc. to be the soldier inside their latest covert program, Project Brimstone. Reluctantly, Keene agreed and found himself in the laboratory of Dr. Walter A. Buchanon (later to be his the Keene's evil nemesis Dr. Canon ) being hooked to a rugged suit of armor loaded with every kind of fire arm possible. Wires extruded from his body, sensors monitored his vital organs and soon he bec…

"Chronicles of Zion" - Just click on the quicktime or windows media version I think my 4Mbyte file was too big to upload here so I put the link to a website that has a quicktime and windows media versions. I want to post the whole 14 minute movie but it has a few hair issues (you can see the pixely hair on the blond character near the end of the trailer) and I'm not sure if I should submit it to A:M films. Maybe someone has an idea of how I can make the whole movie available? By the way, the movie is done but I am open to suggestions on making better animations, renders, etc. Enjoy! (Hopefully)

I liked the Sintel Character from Blender so much that I am converting a version for A:M. Sintel is Open Source so my version will be open source as well. The conversion proved better that I expected. So far the conversion had included various levels of additional deformation meshes as well as Proxy meshes and other layers. Its been a pain cleaning these out. Next will be to fix the few bad patches (not too many) then to add hair and the a rig.

I am currently building some models for an animation I plan to make. I am just starting to grasp the animation aspects of AM or software period. The ship is from the concept I used as my personal photo which was one of my 1st models in AM. The "bot" is sortof a cross between a mech and a tank. I have a pilot for the vehicles but am having fun learning to rig. Any info that can help make bones and constraints easier to understand would be appreciated. As well info on modeling environments and lighting and camera control will be appreciated. The models are still in the assembly stage and are set into a hangar or what will eventually be a hangar with some adjustments for ref…

I really have taken a break from showing stuff on this forum after a little legal 'mishap'... anyways- I thought some of you would get a kick out of this... I'm (hoping) to complete a 2:30 music video for Myron Leroy's 'Rack Em Up' song. If things get tight, I may need help from willing forum members to help animate and render this puppy. Needs be done mid summer... I'll show some animation eventually, but here are some select stills from the first minute I have done. It's about an old pool shark (Sir Nigel) who ends-up getting himself hustled by an underdressed vixen. ALL images are WIP not final renders... Nuff said- HAPPY MD WEEKEND!

Here is a director's chair I built the other day. I found a free wood working project with schematics! No really! I used the diagrams for the wood working project and traced in A:M. Cool way to test out wood working projects I guess. I also used Jeff Lee's fantastic web based sky light rig gizmo! That thing rocks! Anyone needs a director's chair I will post it somewhere... it doesn't fold up though. Vernon "!" Zehr

I actually modeled these about a month ago, but with getting involved in TWO, I really put thes aside to work on the film and other stuff. I still have to decal the shutle cockpit, but for the most part am pretty happy with how these came out. I would love to go back and remodel each piece with beveled edges and maybe someday I will, but for now here they are: ARC-170 Fighter Imperial Shuttle TIE Intercepter X-wing As usual crits and comments are welcome. They do seem like they are floating above the ground plane, but they are really sitting on it.

Well, I just wanted to share a little character I have been working on for the past few days. I have learned alot working on him and have become pretty excited about my first forays into actually making something move! I haven't slept all night and I have to go do a 12 hour shift in a few more hours I kept coming up with ideas every time I tried to sleep. Work is gonna be rough but it is worth it. I know this isn't perfect but I just wanted to share what I have. I plan to do the next few lines of the scene if anyone recognizes it everitturtle1.mov

Up to now, I've pretty much been posting only still images, but this IS an animation forum after all. So I'm starting a project. I've created my first character, I have the head complete, although there's gonna be a lot of tweaking yet to refine the head further. The body should be easier, hopefully. Here's the sketch I used for rotoscopes and a turnaround of the head so far. Knuckles_McGurke_T.mov

This is the "glam shot" of the Albertasaur Skeleton Joe Cosman modeled for eggprops a while back. I just re-vamped it a little and added it back on eggprops. I must say it is pretty amazing how much work went into this thing. The tail controls alone are kind of mind blowing. Looks pretty sexy too. You can check it out <here>. And. . . Larry I promise I'll get cracking on the others ASAP.

Here's something I've been wondering about for 20 years... Could i use A:M to scan a complex model to make a displacement map to put on a simple model and give it the shape of the complex model? In this test case I used a surface constraint to measure the difference in radius between the left shape and the right one. With some text editing and spreadsheet jiggling I made a bitmap out of that data and applied that to the simple shape on the right. The "scan" was very lo res, just 30 pixels around the perimeter, and it has a glitch in it, but the basic concept worked. If I could streamline and automate the workflow a bit, the scans could be very high res and work in al…

Well, I went as far as I was going to go with this project. I'm supposed to be learning animation not building cars, so I stopped tweaking. I learned a lot by doing it, the next time I do a car I'll do a bunch of things different. I was going to decal a second version to be a kind of formula 1 racing car, I may still do that for fun - with sponsorships on it and the whole deal. Anyway, here is my first rendered still, the car is pretty much complete as I said. This is using one of Yves 25 light skylights with a 16 pass render. I don't think its centered but oh well. Took about an hour to render. I'll do a couple more from different angles and post them whe…

I am creating a basic male model for future modification and reference. It is also a possiblility that I will use this for an advertisement for a medical company and they want a basic model that can demonstrate the medical device that they are making. I have started on the face and have it shaped pretty well but it still needs a lot of tweaking. Please let me know how I can improve it. I have included 3 pictures of the face below. Thanks helping out!

[attachmentid=18147]Hello, Here's a cave for a short film I'm working on. It doesn't look quite right to me for some reason. I had shaded it with the darktree shaders, but they take forever to render on my laptop, and I temporarily uninstalled them. What do you think? I seem to remember it looking better with the shaders ( I am using clay shaders, combined with some of the other materials). I wanted the main characters to have a "claymated" look, however, I am not sure that is appropriate for every prop / item in the film. Would you stick completely with the clay look, or have clay characters in a semi-photoreal environment? I ask becaus…

Hello, I was fascinated by a recent thread on the forums about collaboration. Animation has always been a team sport and I enjoy the challenges, camaraderie, and competition that comes with team collaboration. I know the folks at Hash are working on their "Oz" movie and I wish to take away anything or anyone from that experience. However, I feel more like creating a shorter piece. (I still need to sleep and chat with my wife once in a while.) So here's the pitch: I have an idea for a six minute (approx. time) short that is a spoof of zombie horror movies. However, instead of being zombies the "monsters" are snow men and women terrorizing a group of children…
