Hey Everyone! been a while since I posted, so I thought I'd show off my newly polished T. rex skull. I started building this way back when, but I just recently got my hands on a great scale model of one, so I thought I'd try to fix it (you can see an older render of it in my avatar). Some things about the render: The model is just under 4600 patches, and this render uses the cool new radiosity features, so there's just one klieg light in it, and it took just over 30 minutes to render on my 2.3 GHz Athlon64. http://www.dinocarl.com/trexskull.jpg Carl

Hi all! I'm making a bike chain with sprockets and, I can't get the chain to work at all. Does anyone have an idea how to make the chain follow the sprockets? I have 1 bone for each link in the chain and I'm using A:M v11.1. //Korken

I'm experimenting with some deform plug-ins and this is what came out from one of them. I'm not sure this is what I had expected, but it's interesting in some strange way. Useful? Probably not ;-) And Jim. Sorry for trashing your beautiful model :-o [attachmentid=11560] M02a.mov

The lenses are clear, but they do block a lot of light to his eyes. I tried bumping up the ambience on the eyeballs, but that has the effect of washing out his irises (simple color decals). Is there a way I can brighten up his eyes without washing out the pupils? I'd rather not use geometry for the irises unless I absolutely have to. Thanks! Nos

Ok taking another little break from my c-130 aircraft model, this time Im goofing with a water splash(no splash yet though) ...oh well , something like the topic title, attached are a couple short clips of theb Eddie model from the CD falling into what is suppose to be water, the motion and timing and just about every thing else is way, way off, all I was doing on this go round was working on the sprite air bubbles, and I slaped together a simcloth water surface, with sloppy settings, a lightgel on a light, and some sloppy eddie key framing of him flopping underwater.... More later I hope... Any suggestions are welcome and noted, Michael[attachmentid=12452]…

I was experimenting with the Newton Physics in v13 Alpha and found that it is working much better than before. In the attached movie clip you can see several oddly shaped objects falling on top of each other. The lighting is done with Ambient Occlusion and took 33 minutes to render. To set up a sequence like this make any object like a ball and throw it into the choreography. Next you are going to have to set which objects will be used in the simulation. To do this click an object you want to use in the simulation. Go to Plug-in Properties, then Newton Dynamics, and turn Use in Simulation to On. Then you are going to set whether it is a static object or a dynamic obj…

Last night I did a final render of my project and when I played the movie I noticed that one of my characters limbs (left arm) was moved about 5 cm to the right from where it was supposed to be in every frame. Before I composed the final render I rendered it out in shaded mode to make sure everything looked okay, and all was as they should be. I ended up having to move the arm back to it's correct position in every keyframe and also the fingers went all wonky. Thusly I had to re-position all 5 fingers in about 25 keyframes (125 fixes...took a while). I saved the project, then did a render in shaded mode. All was correct. Then I rendered in "final" mode with "shadow…

Hello all, It has been a couple of months until I posted something. I have been working on my website and on there I have characters created in Am. (All except for the rabbit where created in AM.) As you will see I am a fan of toon shading. I do photo realistic as well. I just have the about page done and contact. I am putting the animation together to post real soon. Have a look.... www.hennesproductions.com Cheers, William

This is a flea character for our little film. There is a QT view of him here. It's coming together quite well now. The voice track is almost completed (I have one person yet to record) and a team starting to animate. We've been modelling mostly up to now. [attachmentid=15198]

Hi all. I have tried to visualize an Mp3-player design that I had in my head. This is yet another retro design attempt (I kind of like retro design). While I tried to make the player function as an traditional ear-plug player with an necklace, it is also given an little speaker so it can function as an small table player (not an powerful one though ). Hope you like it. btw, The DOF does give some artifacts on the earplug in the background (this is an 25 pass render with soft ON). Regards Stian [attachmentid=15204]

Hi all, I'm trying to render a scene with some furry animals stampeding. In the initial test renders the fur goes crazy stretching beyond it's length and penetrating the kows's bodies. I've tried setting dynamic sample at various figures up to 2048 and all of the different dynamic types without success. Setting the dynamic type to none removes the hair stretching, but doesn't fix the hair penetrating the skin.....has anyone come up with a recipe for hair collision detection that works? I downloaded the hair tech talk which unfortunately is a comprehensive reference to everything but collision detection. [attachmentid=15598] stampede.mov

Hi folks, I was asked at work to create a device that would wash solar panels. A dusty solar panel can have an efficiency reduction of 40%. The forensic lab [attachmentid=17841] that is under my care (I'm a stationary building engineer), has the whole roof covered with photovoltaic (solar) panels that generates its own electricity (under optimum conditions). Cleaning the dust from such a massive solar farm proved to be difficult, so, I devised this hi-pressure water sprayer that guides itself on the panel and the operator simply pushes the pressure line up and down the panels. This is a simple illustration I made this week, (roughly 9 total hours), tha tillustra…

I thought I would post this in both the showcase and the compositing forum. I've been working on some effects shots for a short film (56 minutes) Using animation master to animate smoke and shell casings. Though certainly my implementation could probably be improved on it doesn't look bad compared to the relatively dead and inactive look of the shots without any compositing. The vietnam sequence consists of a about a 60 second firefight. -Ethan [attachmentid=18455]

In the first clip called water.mov, you'll notice black speckles on the trees. I've narrowed this down to doing a final render with at least 4 passes and with "soften" on and of course having hair with targa files and a alpha channel. Most likely I could render this with A-buffer rendering without black speckles, but then the precedural bump on the water doesn't show. That would mean no water flow. The second clip has two segments. On the first segment, you'll see rippling in the water. That was done with an animated decal and setting the first and last frame in the choreography. Unfortunately, after saving the project and opening it back up again, the key fram…

Recently i have gotten the oppurtunity to do some more work for NASA ( no pay but it will look good on my resume). At the NASA Glenn research center several groups are working on designs for the modules to go back to the moon, one of the groups needs some modeling and animation done, and asked if i was up for it. Of course i accepted. Below is what i have done so far. I am going to have to make a few bump maps and diffuse maps for the lander, but it is pretty much done. Comments welcome, Ben. PS the legs are fully articulate, so are the radiator panels (the random black panels).

Hello Everyone ... I thought I would share a new animation that I have created. It is for an educational project in development called "Astronomy 101" and is geared towards ages 8-11. The movie clip is called "The Introduction" and ...well ... "introduces" most of the cast as well as the background story . Please visit and take a look if you can. I am especially interested in some feedback from those of you with kids in that age catagory (8-11). Please excuse some of the "cheesy" graphics and special effects ... but I think it is still watchable. EDIT: Opps ... I had the wrong ages in the original post. Ages 8-11 are the target. Thanks to everyone for your t…

I've just created a new gallery of astronomical art on A:M Stills with renderings of all EIGHT planets. (I've been working on these for the last few years, before the whole Pluto debate got started. I didn't include Pluto because any textures would be fictional until New Horizons arrives there in nine years' time.) Since I'm not trying to make a scale model of the Solar System, each planet and its system of satellites is a separate choreography modeled at a scale of 1/1 million (1 meter = 1000 kilometers). Here are some samples: I'm putting these renders up now because I've recently figured out some methods for using the Planet Glow shader effectively…

Downloaded the Iccarus software which analyzes video and re-creates a camera tracking solution which can then be imported into A:M. The video clip is from the Iccarus tutorials. I followed along with the documentation to create the tracking solution and exported the track into an A:M v9.5 project. The project loaded just fine into A:M 13. Then took Shaggy and added him to the chor and had hip skip merrily through the scene. For a first shot at doing this, I think it turned out fairly well (as far as the camera tracking goes). I know the lighting does not match the scene and Shaggy is too crisp and sharp compared to the video, but it was just a test. C&a…

I started working on a project that I started awhile back, rerigging the kong model with the squetch rig (still lots to do). Unfortunately, at the time I didn't realize that materials are lost during import of the model into the rig, so he has no fur, will rerig at some point. I saw the post by MrBones for the bvh files (thanks) and tried it out using Andy's tut (and thank you) on using them with the squetch rig. Here's the test, I think he had a few too many. BVH_test.mov

While taking a quick break from TWO animating, I stumbled upon this technique. It may have been done before, but I think it looks pretty cool. As the required rite of passage for TWO, here's the lion and the door. Have spent the best part of a week chewing on the carpet just to get it to this point. It's been better, and it's been a lot worse. Adding Kinetic constraints always flips the hands 180 degrees. Keeping constraints on has been an exercise in frustration suppresion. Ah well, if I have to disgrace myself before the entire Hash community, let this be the day. LION_AT_THE_DOOR.zip

Hello everyone, I reworked my May 07 "Toon" Image contest entry and am posting it here for your review. I made a few changes in Photoshop and I prefer this version over my contest entry. The model is my own original design of a transforming Fighter Plane/ Robot that is part of a short personal animation project that I am working on. The model is designed so that I don't need to swap models when I am transforming in in a shot. It is rigged and ready to go. The mech in the image is one of the mecha designs that will be in the short. This model is pretty much done but I have a few more minor details to work on on this model (so it is still a …

As it stands, I added 10 key frames to a clip, one every second, and alternated 0 and 100% for the ambiance settings of a model bulb. Setting the interpolation to "hold" gave the quick blink. Clumsy, but it works. Never having used expressions before, could someone give me an idea of how to do this over a 10 second clip? This would be more elegant than keyframing, especially if I wanted to do this for a longer clip. Thanks
