Just got a new AM subscription since I have a lot of time over Christmas Break. First project I have started is a humanoid-alien. There are a few issues and I need to work on the proportions a little more. The feet aren't done, but should be soon. Lemme know what you think

Just informing you all that I've joined the CGTalk Machineflesh Challenge. You can find the thread at http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=130145 I don't think I have a chance of winning... but if I get a single vote I'd be happy. Check it out. I highly encourage others to try it out. It's a 3 month challenge and it's a great way to learn, show off your skills, and represent A:M in the larger CG community. Zachary Taich

Just threw a bunch of old, half finished models into a choreography and added some paths. All very rough and simple. Just a run cycle on a path. No bending into corners, no interesting antics, no nothin'... just a run cycle for the moment. Oh. It's only 320 x 240 and all hair/grass/foliage was turned off to get a fairly quick test render with just one pass.

Well, here's a little progress on my fury little monster I've been working on. It's actually my first model in AM, damn splines...lol. I guess I'm starting to get a hang of the splines. Still needs legs and some other work. I like him so far without an actual nose but that might change once I start animating him. Will post when I get some more of him completed. Cheers Oh ya, need to have it where the PNG format can be used as an attachment here. I don't like JPG compression.

Hey everybody. I'm working on a project with my buddies. I'm fairly new, so I'm doing one thing at a time. I did a toon render on a cowboy hat I modeled and animated. Please tell me how I'm doing. Click Here One more thing. I noticed that there's a gap in the shadow that's not supposed to be there. Any ideas on how I can go about fixing this? Thanks.

Hello all, it is with Great Pride and Joy that I announce the final version of Duck Sauce ("A Mystery that Squeaks") is now available on A:M Films. http://amfilms.hash.com/search/entry.php?entry=895 [Mod edit: the above AMFilm link no longer works but I believe this version on Vimeo is the same film...] If you don't know the background already, Duck Sauce was produced as part of the 48 Hour Film Project, in which filmmakers, given a genre, prop, character, and line of dialogue, produce a complete short film, from writing to post-production, over one weekend. This version, though the writing and voices remain the same, conta…

Working out the kinks in Netrender, and used an old project that had everything but the kitchen ink: reflections, transparencies, texture and bump maps, volumetrics, etc. Having some networking and software stabiity issues, which really put the "farm" into renderfarm! I submitted a still several years ago in the image contest, but it was up against very stiff competition. Works better when you see the whole dolly move IMHO. kgh Youtube video "Robot dolly test"

In trying to decide what colors i want to paint my room, I'm builing a full scale replica of it in A:M to see how each color choice will effect the rest of the room. So far all i have is the basic furniture and main structure built. I'm not sure if i want to go as far as modeling every little trinket i have on my computer desk or shelf, but I may just end up doing that for the fun of it. Matt built the bed for me, but i'm gunna try and make it not look so perfectly beveled, texture it, and give it a not so boxy pillow. anyways, here's the first render I've made so far.

After seeing this photo of the Huntsville Alabama Death Chamber Old Sparky I had to model it. From looking at the photo I got make the building smaller, texture the electric chair, work on the lighting a little bit, and fix that door knob one part showing up green where it should be a brass material. I'm thinking about add some character but haven't made up my mine yet on that.

Made a proxy rig... all of the bones have dynamic constraints. In the chor I constrained (orient-like limbs/torso-- and the pelvis is translate-like) the rig(main bones/limbs) of the hero character to the dynamic bones of the proxy. This is the result: DynamicHitHardLg.mov

Hello Everyone, This week i'm working on an extra credit school project using, you guessed it, Animation Master! This project is ment to teach my class about the properties of skin: How sweat is excreted, how nerve endings tell your brain what's happening, etc. I started the project but A:M crashed and I lost all my work. I didn't get that far anyway. So I had to restart. I could go on rambling but i'll post the first pic so you can tell me what you think. I'm trying to make a "forest" of nerves. I'm going to use the same model but alter it each time. This is a red nerve: Edit: Where is the show more than drivers button? How do you delete relations…

Well, after loosing the last model, I took a few days away from the computer and started with a new idea. I just started with the head and will try to get the ear and hair tomorrow. I worked hard on getting the eyes in and with Colin Freeman's advise I actually got the thing in on the second try. This is the first model I have been able to shut the eyes properly. I have a lot of clean up. One thing I noticed and maybe why I get spline heavy is a spline one at a time. Some of the other models updated lately look wonderful with so few spline. How do they do that? Will up date as I go Steve

Posting some work in progress on my character, he is not clothed yet, but 90% of the phenome poses are done, 1% of facial poses, and the "hair" is complete... I should have the model clothed in 4 weeks-- week 1: finish phenomes week 2: finish facial moves week 3: rework rig/shoulders week 4: finish/ test clothing + any textures The first renders are of the head from the modeling window (Each was 1280x960 and reduced and composited together in photoshop): (Note: Textures are 4000x3093...(Color/bump/diffuse/specular intensity) Head, torso, right & left arms, right & left legs, right & left hands (color only), and feet are not texured. This doesn't quite fit here, and it doesn't quite fit in WIP. I've finished the animation, but I'm still rendering--and will be for some time! The story came from a sound project I did in college a few years ago. Today I realized that it's easy to add pictures to my posts, so this is my second one of the night. Comments/Crits welcome, but I can't change much at this point. I've rendered in multiple passes and composited in photoshop. I'm compositing the final in after effects. Cheers, Matt

So, has anyone figured out cloth yet? I have an animation to finish off for someone else and cloth is holding me up right now. I don't want to spend too much longer messing with it to hopefully discover the magic formula. I have made a simple test object with a cape and tested cloth sim in A:M versions 10.5, 11.0t and 11.1f. I still can't get collision detection to work. Any clues? This is pretty urgent! In the attached movie the top two tests are done in 10.5 and 11.0t. The bottom two are both in 11.1f. As you can see collision detection doesn't appear to be working. Does anyone have it working?

If people are interested I've updated my website with images of my latest character. She's rigged, smartskinned and textured. I still need to add specularity, bump, diffuse maps, and a ponytail etc , but thats down the track. http://www.shaunfreeman.com/wip.htm Click on the link to 'characters', and the 'Cuckoo Mother'. NOTE: Different character to the 'Wren Mother' which I have posted previously I've also updated a few other bits and pieces on the web page. Any thoughts that people have would be great.

I've finished my latest project ('bout time I say). The 160 x 120 version is at AM:Films. http://amfilms.hash.com/search/entry.php?entry=850 For those with more bandwidth, there's a 320 x 240 video at this address: http://gutterbrothersllc.com/video/ I welcome all feedback, however I am finished with this project and will move on. So if you don't see your comments being used to fix the video, it's not that I didn't listen. In fact, I'll likely use everyones suggestions for future videos. Laters . . .

Hey, this is a short animation I put together this afternoon. I was having some problems with making the boomerang spin properly (see the New User forum for more info), but I am relatively pleased with this animation. A few areas need stronger poses, longer pauses, better anticipation, and the regular like of course... and I'm hoping you all can help me out with spoting them. Suggestions greatly appreciated! Thanks, --Ross boomerangsmall.mov

Hi, everyone. I'd really like critiques on this new model for my next short. I'm looking for a somewhat cartoony and simple look suitable for some loose, squashy-stretchy animation. Comments about improving appeal or style would be especially appreciated. I'll probably do some texturing and surface tweaking, but not a whole lot. Yeah, I know... wireframe. Comin' up next. Thanks!

Just a quick test of hair, first time outside of TAOAM. Attached is a ZIP of the project and movie. Sorry, AVI only. [bTW, when uploading an AVI, the forum says "Upload failed. You are not permitted to upload this type of file".] Some of the hairs go through the ears, but the effect seems to be okay. Is there a good strategy for getting hair to be routed in areas that don't necessarily match the splinage? ETA: Just found John Bigboote's post on HAIR. ShaggyHair_cam.zip

Hi, this is kind of a repost because I finished "version 1" of this guy, and plus I uploaded the wrong movie before. Anyway here he is, the first thing I've made in A:M. Thanks to jamagica for the quick little eye tutorial, even going through that taught me a lot. My goal in having this guy is not so much to make him the perfect model, but to have something of my own to learn to animate with. I've learned a TON in just building this one character (many thanks to everyone BTW). There are certainly some rough areas - the feet for sure and parts of the legs. The eyes need some kind of brow or eyebrows. I think I'm going to add "floating" eyebrows - what do y…

Now that I'm in the home stretch with tank treads, it's time to think ahead and decide how to blast the bejeezus outta them. I looked in A.R.M. and found these two tutorials...both of which end in a 'Page Not Found' It's the first of the two that I'd really to find. Can anyone direct me to another URL that will give me instruction on animating "flame/smoke trails" for a streaking anti-tank missle?
