this is the continuation of this topic I can't open a new poll in it then I had to create this new topic thanks for voting ... Well, you had 2 weeks for voting. The choice car to be modeled was the BMW 7 Sedan. I posted a new poll, regarding of the value to be paid for the tutorial. Your answer is quite important. The modeling of a basic mech model, in a direct way, uses all the beginnigs that are used in an advanced mech model. You understanding how works the parts and splines, you will be apt to model any type of car... The tutorial will cover : - Modeling - Texturing - Lighting

Hi, I'm a 'rusty' old 'old timer' but I'm back and trying to animate and get some video of a bunch of models (space ships for the most part) created for my last AM project (a book trailer for my sci-fi book). To give credit where due, some models were created by AM users from all around the world. I'm using V14 NetRender (I plan to upgrade shortly), however, so far, I've only tried rendering right out of AM. I'm encountering a problem I've not seen before and it's happening on all three of the scenes I've tried to render (so that means 3 different sets of prj files, model files, etc). Things are 'shimmering' on finals renders (this best description I can come u…

I was experimenting with the Newton Physics in v13 Alpha and found that it is working much better than before. In the attached movie clip you can see several oddly shaped objects falling on top of each other. The lighting is done with Ambient Occlusion and took 33 minutes to render. To set up a sequence like this make any object like a ball and throw it into the choreography. Next you are going to have to set which objects will be used in the simulation. To do this click an object you want to use in the simulation. Go to Plug-in Properties, then Newton Dynamics, and turn Use in Simulation to On. Then you are going to set whether it is a static object or a dynamic obj…

I made a Flash presentation for the author of a book I've been helping to illustrate that showcases all the models I made for the reconstruction of the East Pediment of the Parthenon. The book is called The Parthenon Code: Mankind's History in Marble. These models are textured and in color! This was alot of work but well worth it http://www.holmesbryant.com/east_ped/

there will always be something else to tweak or change slightly but I think I've done most of the major modelling/surfacing stuff. Small stuff left to do - "dirty-smudges" on finger & toenails & teeth. Wrinkles on top of fingers & thumb But basically he's done. I'll now have a go in version 11 but I will do a different character instead.

I've been rather ill lately, and have not had the concentration to work on the real project at hand (our Mountain film) so I built a 3-D model of my roomate's head. It's kinda creepy without ears and hair and the neck is incomplete, but it was a fun challenge to build a realistic head for a change. (We may use it in an animated version of him to introduce his architecture portfolio in the future, but no immediate plans.)

Hi all, I am thoroughly enjoying my A:M apprenticeship and have now completed my final lesson (not yet accepted by my Mentor though). Here it is: http://higginsdj.250free.com/downloads/Lesson6.mov Note that you may have to navigate to my gallery (theatre) page and access it there as 250Free may not allow direct linking (see below) My other efforts can be seen here: http://higginsdj.250free.com/theatre.htm This was by far the most complex animation I have ever done as it comprised 3 Chors (3 Shots) each with up to 5 blended actions overloaded with Chor Action. If nothing else I have learnt a lot about blending actions in A:M http://higginsdj.…

As shown in the first image, I'm installing electric trolley wire down my city street set. The solid copper wire is strung from steel clamps that are supported by multi-strand steel cable. I played with the concept of modeling the cable strand by strand but that turned into a lot of patches for low visibility set dressing. Instead I built some angled half cylinders to generate bump images using a black to white gradient material. So the cables shown in the second image (a view from above) are simple tubes that were straightened in an action and then cylindrically decaled. They turned out much more convincing than I expected. They probably wouldn't hold up if you were…

I am currently building some models for an animation I plan to make. I am just starting to grasp the animation aspects of AM or software period. The ship is from the concept I used as my personal photo which was one of my 1st models in AM. The "bot" is sortof a cross between a mech and a tank. I have a pilot for the vehicles but am having fun learning to rig. Any info that can help make bones and constraints easier to understand would be appreciated. As well info on modeling environments and lighting and camera control will be appreciated. The models are still in the assembly stage and are set into a hangar or what will eventually be a hangar with some adjustments for ref…

Haven't showed anything in a while so... I have been inspired by Stian's cathedral to do some modelling. I was looking at the intricate detail on a US $1 bill and thought... I'll do it in 3D! 4 days and 28,000 patches later... The 'George Washington' bust was big fun to do. I rotoed the basic shapes and began extruding. I borrowed Sir Nigels nose. I am now rigging it for basic motion...eyes, neck/head, mouth/jaw...maybe I'll get ambitious and do some ZignTrack motion capture. I will do some basic zooms and pans, maybe try to sell this for a TV spot or something... DOLLARsmall.mov

Andreas Deja recently returned from vacation and posted a pretty cool set of animated crowd sequences by Milt Kahl. These were cut from Disney's 'The Rescuers' but luckily are still available to us. In only seven seconds Milt conveys so much material I simply had to study them. Amazing stuff. But... I also wanted to dig deeper into some areas of A:M as well... 2D analysis tools/rotoscoping being two of those things... and so this oddity is the result. This analysis consisted mostly of quickly placed five point patches (the circles) and a few four pointers (picture frames, nose and bench) with the whole sequence re-lit in post via the Merge and Mix Post Effects in…

I'm modeling some new characters for a story. Here I modeled a character's head after a frontal picture as a rotoscope, then what I did was to apply the decal in the same position as the rotoscope! I'm pleased with the results of this technique. Even though I will have to remake the textures later, I can use this rough picture as a base. One of the problems is that the texture has some 'built in ilumination', because the original foto has a lighting on its own. Even so, I think that little 'cheat' doesn't interfere much with scene lighting yet can improve realism. I tried giving the object an opposite lighting here (from below). …

Hey everyone, It's been a while since I posted anything, but I thought now would be a good time since I'm working in my spare time on something I've always wanted to model, namely a skull. I've already made a T rex skull, but I also wanted to try my hand at a human. I was looking around the various AM resources for a skeleton, because I remembered there used to be one rattling around somewhere - in fact, I think his name was Eugene. When I couldn't find him, I decided this would serve as the opportunity I'd been looking for. I started out with a rudimentary skull shape that took about 4 hours to model. Since then, I've been steadily adding in more detail, which …

I'm going to try and sculpt him from an already existing base model (made a little beefier). Here's a dirty start with the textures..nothing too exciting...but I'll post my progress. It'll be slower than it use to be. Thanks for Looking! Lee

Building a bathroom for a short animation piece. Still plenty of work to do--the stalls don't even have toilets in them yet, among other things. Not really going for photorealism here; I'll be blurring and re-touching the finished render in Photoshop to create a "painted" backdrop for my toon characters.

Ones this projected started out by trying to find a way to do fast and fun animations. The character(s) had to be as easy as possible to animate. Why not use one cell - a one celled organism - the ones who started life on earth. I Googled on it and found: http://www.4to40.com/earth/geography/index...orldunderwater2 And they seemed to have some sexual life too: When the animal wants to have young, it simply splits into two, and each part goes its own way. And they were also dangerous some of them: Some of these flagellate animals can be a nuisance and may even be dangerous. Well they looked a bit like human beings our first ancestors: Some fl…

Has anyone here had one of their models converted to a physical object using a 3D printer? William posted a while back about doing that: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showt...&hl=printer If he's converted some of your models, let's see the result. I was in talks with him, but he never got back to me after we started discussing details.

Well all I can say is I am really growing to hate modelling in A:M. lol Its just too long winded and so easy to botch up. In my opinion. Maybe It will get easier and more intuative. PLEEEAAASE. Still trying to find my way of modelling within it. This started out as a comic little girl.?!?! No idea at what point it went wrong I ended up trying to stitch the eyes and nose area which was difficult and perhaps impossible as you can see. The only reason it looks as smooth is because I used the porcelain material. I have ordered the 2002 A:M book to see if it clarifies anything. Cheers Mike R

"Chronicles of Zion" - Just click on the quicktime or windows media version I think my 4Mbyte file was too big to upload here so I put the link to a website that has a quicktime and windows media versions. I want to post the whole 14 minute movie but it has a few hair issues (you can see the pixely hair on the blond character near the end of the trailer) and I'm not sure if I should submit it to A:M films. Maybe someone has an idea of how I can make the whole movie available? By the way, the movie is done but I am open to suggestions on making better animations, renders, etc. Enjoy! (Hopefully)

Here's a project I've been working on in my spare time for the last week or so. My wife and I both love reading so I decided to make an ideal comfortable, rich environment to do just that in. I'm still working on drawing out the surroundings here there's still a lot of tweaking to be done on the textures and what not for this model, but thought I'd start a thread anyway. Feel free to blast away. Comments are always helpful.

Well, I figured that since my Yeti character was based on him and my goal with some of the shader work I've been doing (samples coming soon...) has been to get as close as possible to the monsters inc hair AND since I haven't done much modeling lately I decided to model Sully from Monsters Inc. He still needs some color and, most importantly, a whole heck of a lot of hair, and his hands and feet were taken from the Yeti and could use some work also but here's what I've got so far... Let me know what you think. Kevin p.s. has anyone else run into those weird black artifacts with ambient occlusion? If not I'll submit a report. sully.mov

Hi. I'm working on a lip sync segment and I have a question on how others do the syncing. I stared with 3 +/- mouth poses, smile/frown, open/closed, and ooo/aaa, then used these to make the 9 Preston Blaire phonemes. After creating the dope sheet, I found it took a lot of tweeking to get it looking good and I got realy confused trying to adjust all the channels. What I ended up doing is not using a dope sheet and just animating to the sound track using the 3 basic mouth poses. This worked better and was much faster; lesson learned. I am just wondering how others do their lip syncing.
