Here's a project I've been working on in my spare time for the last week or so. My wife and I both love reading so I decided to make an ideal comfortable, rich environment to do just that in. I'm still working on drawing out the surroundings here there's still a lot of tweaking to be done on the textures and what not for this model, but thought I'd start a thread anyway. Feel free to blast away. Comments are always helpful.

Hi all, I build a provisorical website for the development of one of my projects: "Marina Vonsee und der Schrecken der Südsee" The shootingboard in comicstripform is finished, now starting to do the animatic for sound and timing, see DEMO button. Also many models finished. On a sideeffect I published my comicbookscribbles as books from BoD (Books on Demand) just out of curiosity for these new possibilities. It`s all German for the time being... http://www.marinavonsee.de http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showt...RAND+MECHAJOUST

Hi All, Can anyone tell me why my character model actions work properly in the action window and get corrupted in the Chor window. If I drop more then one action in my chor window they blend some how. It happens wheather I use a path or not and it does not go away when I slide the actions appart on the timeline. I have also use the model properties Blend, Add and Replace at different times with out getting predictable results. Technodandy

Hi all, I had been entering this comp with another App in the past but this month, after my initial attempts were panned have chosen AM and a completely new approach. Currently rerigging the 2 characters to be able to blink and talk (at least at a basic level). (Chicken: "You Stole from my kin.") Cheers

Hi gang, Here's a new lipsync I've been working on. This one has more extreme emotion to show what this setup is capable of. This clip is a render from the action window (Quicktime, Sorenson 3, 1.7MB) http://www.scc.net/~mbs/Yosemite27.mov This one is a wireframe that includes the onscreen interface I use for animating this critter. About 90% of the lipsync was done using the "slider interface" and the remaining 10% was tweeking the individual pose sliders. (DivX 5.1.1, 2.1MB) http://www.mstrohbehn.lunarpages.com/Videos/Yosemite26.avi Let me know what you all think. Thanks!

I've been rather ill lately, and have not had the concentration to work on the real project at hand (our Mountain film) so I built a 3-D model of my roomate's head. It's kinda creepy without ears and hair and the neck is incomplete, but it was a fun challenge to build a realistic head for a change. (We may use it in an animated version of him to introduce his architecture portfolio in the future, but no immediate plans.)

I've never worked on a model that i've hated until now. I never want to make another of these or anything similar to this any time soon. I don't mind tedious work, its the needless redundancy that got me. For some reason, the normals wouldn't stand still, they kept flipping on me in random directions. Every time I reopened the file. . . flip! Rotated the object. . . flip! flip one set of normals, another set flipped. GRRRRR!!!! maybe its just my machine, or the version of AM I'm Running or my use of 5 point patches. . . I don't know. anyway, i've attached the project file incase anyone else would ever need a storm drain cover. My pain is your gain. . . irongratepr…

I made a Flash presentation for the author of a book I've been helping to illustrate that showcases all the models I made for the reconstruction of the East Pediment of the Parthenon. The book is called The Parthenon Code: Mankind's History in Marble. These models are textured and in color! This was alot of work but well worth it http://www.holmesbryant.com/east_ped/

Hi. I'm working on a lip sync segment and I have a question on how others do the syncing. I stared with 3 +/- mouth poses, smile/frown, open/closed, and ooo/aaa, then used these to make the 9 Preston Blaire phonemes. After creating the dope sheet, I found it took a lot of tweeking to get it looking good and I got realy confused trying to adjust all the channels. What I ended up doing is not using a dope sheet and just animating to the sound track using the 3 basic mouth poses. This worked better and was much faster; lesson learned. I am just wondering how others do their lip syncing.

Hi I am working on something for fathers Day. I want to make an animation of my dad playing conga drums and singing babaloo if I can finish it in time. My friend jin kazama is making the conga drums. I started the head today. I was just gonna make a simple round head and put glasses and hair on it but my friend jin kazama encouraged me to push it more and I'm glad he did, I am happy with how it's coming. I should be busy learning a software package right now but I wanted to do this. Attached is the head. I will update later.

Hi, I'm a 'rusty' old 'old timer' but I'm back and trying to animate and get some video of a bunch of models (space ships for the most part) created for my last AM project (a book trailer for my sci-fi book). To give credit where due, some models were created by AM users from all around the world. I'm using V14 NetRender (I plan to upgrade shortly), however, so far, I've only tried rendering right out of AM. I'm encountering a problem I've not seen before and it's happening on all three of the scenes I've tried to render (so that means 3 different sets of prj files, model files, etc). Things are 'shimmering' on finals renders (this best description I can come u…

I normally don't do this, but I think if I post how I go through the different processes of making a render, I think I can actually finish an entire scene for once. Last night I had a crazy vision of some lost and forgotten tricycle sitting outside of an abandoned grocery store. There were lots of earthen tones and bright white lights. I just drew up an image of what I saw, and I intend to make the whole scene in animation master! Here's what I have so far: I plan on coloring this image to get a better target for contrast in the image I have this delusion of rendering out the whole scene in radisoity, but I need to try and suppress that in order to actua…

Ones this projected started out by trying to find a way to do fast and fun animations. The character(s) had to be as easy as possible to animate. Why not use one cell - a one celled organism - the ones who started life on earth. I Googled on it and found: http://www.4to40.com/earth/geography/index...orldunderwater2 And they seemed to have some sexual life too: When the animal wants to have young, it simply splits into two, and each part goes its own way. And they were also dangerous some of them: Some of these flagellate animals can be a nuisance and may even be dangerous. Well they looked a bit like human beings our first ancestors: Some fl…

I am studying a BA in Digital Media. So far, so good. I've got through the first two years. Now, when I start my third and final year, one thing we have been warned of in advance is a Specialised Study project. We've got plenty of time to plan and I want to make the most of it. I have decided to make an interactive Macromedia Director based project, based on the well-known game of Cluedo. Influenced by Hasbro Interactive games, you get to solve the mystery by actually searching the rooms for clues, questioning the suspects and viewing flashbacks of previous events. I plan to make it a parody, calling it Crazy Cluedo and making it funny. The suspects have the mo…

Andreas Deja recently returned from vacation and posted a pretty cool set of animated crowd sequences by Milt Kahl. These were cut from Disney's 'The Rescuers' but luckily are still available to us. In only seven seconds Milt conveys so much material I simply had to study them. Amazing stuff. But... I also wanted to dig deeper into some areas of A:M as well... 2D analysis tools/rotoscoping being two of those things... and so this oddity is the result. This analysis consisted mostly of quickly placed five point patches (the circles) and a few four pointers (picture frames, nose and bench) with the whole sequence re-lit in post via the Merge and Mix Post Effects in…

In light of my coming in 4th for this month's image contest here is the link to a full body turn that I did a couple of weeks ago to see how the model was coming. On this version there was still some texturing to do but you can see a lot of the details. R2 Body Turn (2mb) Here's an early animation I did featuring 2-3-2 conversion. I know the movemtn is jerky bit I just wanted to see how things looked at the time. R2 2-3-2(2mb) Feel free to leave your C&Cs.

I have always wanted to see what doom 3 would look like if I rendered it with radiosity. The game engine does not have any baking for lighting, so every light is ray traced. I've used the editor to take measurements of the garage I wanted to recreate, and I'm using textures from Doom 3 for all of the surfaces. The entire geometry took me around twelve hours to input into A:M, but the results are already very cool. Here is a render that I did yesterday with photon mapping but with no texturing. [attachmentid=14610] Since the image was rendered, I have added railing, more pipes, wires in the back area, and a few textures. The animation shows the room a bit …

Hey all, I still haven't talked to Martin about this issue, but I figure that I'd switch around some obvious things, if for nothing else than to have a little fun! Here's the corny story I came up with: Cameron Keene, part-time marine, was enlisted by the shadowy group Nightrun Inc. to be the soldier inside their latest covert program, Project Brimstone. Reluctantly, Keene agreed and found himself in the laboratory of Dr. Walter A. Buchanon (later to be his the Keene's evil nemesis Dr. Canon ) being hooked to a rugged suit of armor loaded with every kind of fire arm possible. Wires extruded from his body, sensors monitored his vital organs and soon he bec…

This is the "glam shot" of the Albertasaur Skeleton Joe Cosman modeled for eggprops a while back. I just re-vamped it a little and added it back on eggprops. Here is a director's chair I built the other day. I found a free wood working project with schematics! No really! I used the diagrams for the wood working project and traced in A:M. Cool way to test out wood working projects I guess. I also used Jeff Lee's fantastic web based sky light rig gizmo! That thing rocks! Anyone needs a director's chair I will post it somewhere... it doesn't fold up though. Vernon "!" Zehr

Has anyone here had one of their models converted to a physical object using a 3D printer? William posted a while back about doing that: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showt...&hl=printer If he's converted some of your models, let's see the result. I was in talks with him, but he never got back to me after we started discussing details.

I have been working today and have had a great deal of rendering crashes. It seems to deal with hair, and cookie cutter decals and version 19. It renders in 18 but in 19 as soon as I hit render AM crashes. I have pulled elements out of my project to see where the problem comes from, but now 19 will not even load the project without crashing. It has been a rough night.

I liked the Sintel Character from Blender so much that I am converting a version for A:M. Sintel is Open Source so my version will be open source as well. The conversion proved better that I expected. So far the conversion had included various levels of additional deformation meshes as well as Proxy meshes and other layers. Its been a pain cleaning these out. Next will be to fix the few bad patches (not too many) then to add hair and the a rig.

I just bought, downloaded, and installed v16.0a. I have been using AM since 95, and have never had this problem. I have, but it's been manageable. To summarize, it simply crashes. To be more specific, I am using Windows Vista SP1 x64. I am running it on a HP dv4 Entertainment Notebook PC. I am downloading, but haven't installed the latest graphics driver as well as SP2. However, I don't think the version of Windows is the problem. I have gone into the tools>options>global and tried to change my real time drivers but i only have one option: OpenGL. I am bewildered that this computer's graphics drivers only support that and not Direct3D as well, but it is what it is. …

I'm getting these weird artifacts when I try and render the image out with Depth of Field. Notice the two sacs in the back are blurred but have a black line near the edge. Also, i tried rendering out another image with Depth of Field and a volumetric light in the foreground. Everything was blurred except the part of the image that was behind the volumetrics.... Well all I can say is I am really growing to hate modelling in A:M. lol Its just too long winded and so easy to botch up. In my opinion. Maybe It will get easier and more intuative. PLEEEAAASE. Still trying to find my way of modelling within it. This started out as a comic little girl.?!?! No idea at what point it went wrong I ended up trying to stitch the eyes and nose area which was difficult and perhaps impossible as you can see. The only reason it looks as smooth is because I used the porcelain material. I have ordered the 2002 A:M book to see if it clarifies anything. Cheers Mike R
