First of all I must admit that this render is inspired by Fabrice and his keychain. But I hope that you don't consider this as an rip off (even though I used an wooden floor texture). I have been trying to understand radiosity, and its hard but interesting. MUCH to learn yet I went to an store and bought an 5$ toy car and scanned the box, then I created the box in A:M and used the scanned image as an decal. Then I rigged the box to make it foldable. Hope you like it btw: render size: 1280x1024 render time: *coughing*36hr*coughing* Regards Stian Ervik Wahlvåg Image has been updated to final version

So I am starting on a project and basing both character off some cartoon rotos I found on the interwebs. I don't know if they're from the same cartoon or not, I don't really care, haha. I just want them to look cool together. I am making each mesh from scratch, except for the hands which I took from my J.D. character. I might take more things from other models of mine, but I'm trying to remember how to do all this stuff - so making it again is the best way I'm thinking. Here's what I got so far of the Batman. Just the base body. Still have to add all the detail and fix stuff as I go along. I should also mention that this is just a screen grab. Thanks fo…

Answers in Genesis (AiG), Christian apologetics and creation science organization, as well as builders of Creation Museum in greater-Cincinnati, has redesigned their extremely popular website. A key feature of the redesigned site is a new "Get Started" section that features an introduction video ("About AiG") that includes one of my 3D animations that I created for them. www.AnswersInGenesis.org is the single most-popular Christian apologetics website, receiving over 50,000 unique visitors (not hits) every day, which is about 150,000 page views. In a month, the website reaches hundreds of thousands of unique vistors (again, not hits because that would register in the…

I've been kicking around the idea of doing a series set in an RPG video game world for a while now. It seems like a great idea for a web series, with low resolution video, low patch-count models, and low res textures. Lower production value all around! I already have a lot of backround notes, and switching to shorter episodes for web-release should make writing a lot easier. I've modeled the low patch figures already, and I've got the female model assembled, mapped, and textured. I just need to rig her. The male model will be next to finish. I'm using basically the same mesh, there's only one extra spline in the female model to make the bust look smoother. He…

I started working on a fan film a while back using Anim8or, a free animation and modelling software program. Due to some limitations in the animation portion of the program, I purchased Animation Master to continue the project. Unfortunately, the models did not import very well into A:M, so I am starting the models from scratch. The first model is the All Terrain Armored Transport (AT-AT) Walker. I am starting with the feet and will work my way up. As I gain more experience with modelling in A:M, I will go back and tweak parts that I am not entirely satisfied with and add detail that I am not quite sure how to do yet. This is the same process I used while learni…

Hey folks, I've been working on a superhero character called the Mongoose. I'm working on the eyes and would love to have your opinion on which eyes would work the best. The character is supposed to be a dark character, but a good guy - kind of like Batman. The one thing that I'm trying to avoid is the "Spiderman look" (like the image number 2). Anyway, I would love to here which one is your favorite. All the best, Nima Anvar

I'm playing with SSS in v17a and I'm having problems getting decent results. I didn't use SSS in A:M before (but I did use it in other 3D software). I found out that SSS doesn't work with "Global ambience colour". Can someone please confirm that? I would be very grateful if someone could send me a complete PRJ file with working SSS material that looks like skin or wax (of course model could be a simple ball or cube...). This would help me a lot! Maybe it would be good idea for one of the next contests, if the topic would be SSS materials. Now that A:M supports SSS materials, our community could use couple of good SSS materials. Thank you in advance! Duš…

Hi, got an idea for a new project!! Ill see if I can upload a sketch but it involves an ocean shore with 2-3 large rocks and various small ones as the focal point. Grass and maybe a old beach chair or fence in there too. I have some of it done (see pic). I need to work on the sand texture/shader. I really want it to look real so I'm going to be spending a lot of time doing that.... The rocks are going to be a modified version on the one I used on my previous project. The water was kinda interesting to do. I had to adjust the transparency and reflectivity to get the right look. I wanted to use the Index of Refraction, density, and transparency settings for more realistic w…

Hi all, I am new to 3d software period. AM is the software I plan to learn with and I just started to understand the modeling aspects of the software. This is a screen shot of a rotoscope of my head that I did this weekend. I am still learning to decal and have had limited success as I take the selected "face" into a pose window but cant for the life of me figure out how to flatten it to decal it but I'll get it. I have about 12 hrs on this one and suspect the spline count is too high and need to work on the spline connections at the nostrils and corners of the mouth but am still very happy that it actually looks like a face. I am used to clay and paint but this is addict…

Hi Here's a mechanical spider I modeled. My main problem is having the whole spider in the one 'model'. At the moment I have each leg in a separate 'model' so that I can change the copy/paste things quickly. But if I put the entire spider in the one 'model' it takes about 10 minutes to copy and paste one leg Does any one have any tips for faster copying and pasting or to reduce the amount of CP's quickly without changing the original shape? Comments appreciated

After completing the Lamborghini Gallardo, I wanted to try another car and hopefully improve on what I learned from the first model. So, here is the start of a 1934 Ford 5 window coupe street rod. And since I needed to start somewhere, I started with the frame. I am hoping to add a full suspension, working doors, windows and full interior. If I get really ambitious, then a fully detailed motor and tranny as well. The body will be left mainly stock in appearance. I figure this is going to be a fairly lengthy project if I can accomplish all I want to. When I model this car, I want to be aware of the splines and patch count, trying to minimize each but still h…

While awaiting a render I thought I'd try an idea for the car chase sequence. I've taken some low res targa photos of the lego houses and mapped them onto four patch planes to composite within the multi plane chor option. The question is, how do I get it to cut out the space were the windows are ? Heres an example of one of the files. Green_01.tga I cut out the spaces were the windows were and left it transparent in TGA format. When rendered it shows the gap as a flat white ? Is there a way around that ? regards simon Apologies here is a jpg version of the same file

Orc

Alright, so I have this orc that I want to make. I haven't really sketched it out- I'm pretty much winging it this time. But that's ok at this point, because I know how I want the teeth to look. So that's what I've modelled so far. Problem: How do I texture them? I've done the basic geometry for the teeth and gums, and I've used naming conventions pretty carefully, so each tooth is it's own group and all that. Does anyone have suggestions for how to go about texturing? Do I need to do each tooth seperately? Ay, this is going to be a painful process if so... And if anyone has suggestions for the modelling at this point, this'd be a good time to tell me. P.S. …

Started a new WIP post with a more appropriate heading. Picked this old model up and started tweaking again. Here are some quick renders with some color experiments - none of which I like. Also worked some more on the interior - dash, gauges, seats, door panels, center console and stick. The body is undergoing tweaking every time I touch the project. The metal is getting smoother every time. I also reworked the rims of the car, loosing over 500 cps without changing the look of the rims. This was done just by getting more experience in modeling and eliminating what was not necessary. I've started working on the engine compartment and will post a r…

This is my newest character that will be starring in a short that I'm working on. I was going for a Pixar style of character, and he looks pretty close to me. But tell me what you think. His name's Ted. P.S. I'll post his wires as soon as I get the chance. Until then I'll be hard at work fitting his rig. P.P.S I also noticed after the render was complete that I did not run Gama conversion. The piece is probably light enough to avoid problems, but if there are any problems please say so.

Hey everyone. I've been reading this forum for a while, and asked a question here and there. I would love to answer some too, but usually I just don't know the answers to people's questions. Hopefully that will change over time, but I'm still a novice, for sure. I thought I could be somewhat useful though by sharing my project in the WIP section and describing my process a little bit. If this post gets any kind of response, I may continue to post updates or answer questions or more likely ask questions on how to overcome my latest technical problem as I continue working on this short. I've been working on my first animated short film on and off for several months. I …

Here's a random doodle... I guess you could call it a test of mouth shapes. What I find interesting about stuff like this is how emotion can be conveyed with no other change other than the jaw/mouth. Adding some eye and eyebrow animation would yield even more interesting results and of course yield that wonderfully expressive emotion 'anger'. randommouthshapes_sm.mov

Well, I drew these two views of my own little musclecar on a whim and decided to model it just for fun. Holy cow has this been hard. I think I have about 6 hours into it already. Been having lots of trouble figuring out the noseplate behind the headlights, but I think I have if figured. I need to totally redo it from what you see below but the concept is working. Man, some of these realistic 3d models of cars I've seen, I don't know how they do it. It's tricky to get precise measurements too. Here it is so far.

Wookie Dance This just uses the same .bvh mocap ZachBG posted in the resuable motion forum. Since it worked with 2001 skeletons I just had to try it out on the wookie. It's not perfect (the arm passes through his face/body a couple times) but this is about the best I've been able to get hair to render in an animation. Plus a wookie dancing to some MJ is just plain funny. Kevin

My nephew turned five today and is having a birthday party this weekend. After seeing some Cake Boss episodes a few weeks ago, I'm wondering if I could do a custom cake for him. His favorite super-hero these days is J'onn J'onz, the Martian Manhunter. For some reason, he doesn't like it if you call him Martian Manhunter, only J'onn. :-) Anyway, I cranked up A:M tonight and did this mockup of what the cake might look like:

Hello to all - I have been working on my first short short film for a couple months now and finally decided to consolidate my posting regarding it in this thread. Operation:Sphinx is code for my yet unnamed toon. It follows the story of a creature as it lands on a planet unknown to it, and we witness a surprising discovery. As of today, the shot sequence is done and I am currently working on props and finishing the storyboards. And of course, i'm doing a slew of animation tests with the main character. I'm new to all aspects of filmmaking so this project is going to take me a while. I'll be halting production for tutorials and other collaboration…

A revisit of an old idea/project done to test the working method. The old one was a bit of a mess too but liked the idea. The scenario is that, the Mum is starting to learn to play the piano, and the baby has yet to walk. But will by the end of Day Three. This is a rough pass at Day One. Any Critical feedback very welcome. It was animated and rendered in AM, the notes hand coloured in TVP and the composite done in After Effects. The composite will need some work as I have very little knowledge or experience of AE Simon BEWARE of Sound !!! TLC S1 003S.mov

Hi all, A few points. First I am treating this exercise as an AM showcase so I am not interested in prizes. This also means I would like as much input into my image as possible to make it as good as it can possibly be (even if others wish to enlist to provide resources). I wish to 'showcase' as many features in AM as possible and produce a kick ass image - but - I am not the greatest/most creative artist out there (I'm a bit of ahack really). Any amount of critique/help will be most welcome. My image thus far comprises a background generated in another APP (a 3D Landscape APP) and I then moved the camera to look down on the landscape to generate the ter…

Got a sudden inclination to give this object a try... First test render with a simple sphere and a simple decal. Can you guess what it is? (Science Fiction buffs probably will...) I purposely made the seam face the camera for me to make sure the decal is on there correctly. I DID cheat a bit. Found that cylindrical mapping gives smoother results near the poles. The trick is to spherical map first, screen capture and use the capture as a rotoscope for sizing the cylindrical decal placement.
