I'm trying to make headlights on a truck using two Rim lights. However, to work, they need to be Volumetric lights so I can see the projected light cones. From the moment I turned on 'Volumetric', they were out of sync. I cannot get the light on the left [our left] to throw a beam as far as the right. Last night the left looked more like a yellow plastic cone and the right had dark banding in it. Both are more well-behaved this morning. I'm looking for something like the light on the wall [streetlight] which, in itself, is was an adventure of chasing numbers. Seems even the size and shape of the Rim light has a huge difference on how the light projects. Is Volumetric…

Hello, I am looking for some models to add to my business portfolio. Ideally I would like to do a trade with an artist at this point. I would mill the foam model out for you for free. Ok this will show my limited knowledge of AM and animating with AM. Some of the models for the short I am working on have 2500 patches all the way to 5500. There will be up to 7 characters in a scene at a time. There will also be a city scene with several buildings most of the items will be props as it were but still I can see a large patch count in the chor. So my questions are as follows. In other programs you can render layers at a time. Does AM have that capablility? For example, as the girls walks down the street she will only interact with the sidewalk and street with her shadows. can she be rendered from the chor and then other elements rendered seperate…

Here's something I 'm doing for my day job, a machine that creates rubber injection-molded components for high voltage uses. Hello all- Tried rendering some volumetric lighting and came across a weird anomaly in the rendering. An thin arc of black dots seems to be appearing in the rendered frames. Check out the image. Does anyone have an idea what might be causing this? Thanks! Tom

I'm working on a music video for my band. The instrumental tune is called Escape from the Mines of Titan, and that pretty much spells out the plot. I just started work, and quickly put together a scene. I just created a surface, added some hills and valleys, and put on some color and roughness that gives it a sandy look. (Saturn behind it is an actual NASA photo.) The real Titan has a landscape more like that of the moon, but I would be OK with keeping it sandy. I'd love to hear any tips or suggestions you guys have about improving the look of Titan (maybe a material or image texture?) I just purchased V16. In the forums there were several accounts about how it is significantly faster, and I have to admit I was a bit skeptical that it would be faster, even on something simple and straightforward. But it turns out, it is. I rendered one frame of a project I am working on using the Final preset in the 1080 HD format on a snazzy machine with an Intel i7 quad core 3.4GHz processor. I rendered on 15.0j+, 16.0a 32-bit and 16.0a 64-bit. Rendering a single frame does not do any overt parallel processing, but with V16 you can use NetRender to do 2 different frames at once, so in a real project you would likely get something like double the improvement…

Been working a lot with video for Christmas gifts for family and got to thinking, Oh ya I bet AM will work with it. Hiya Ive been using the new tools and using a prop to make a face .It works very well.I have a problem nose though that I just cant seem to get around .I know there is a lot to many splines especially in the neck ares .Any advice would be very welcomecheers Steve

Hi All, I got AM back when it was version 5.0, and stuck with it up to 7.1.. I stepped out of the 3-D scene for quite a few years, and just within the last few weeks, dropped by the Hash site to see the changes they made in software. I was blown away at the improvements (though I still need to upgrade ). Well, I've been working on this site with a huge team of other people for over 2 years, and it finally launched today. It'll be a while before I can put up any of the work on my site so I'm showing it on theirs. Some of the modeling was done in AM... All the hard stuff at least ;-) (namely any statues you see) I wont go into much other detail at this point. I led the group who was responsible for the 3d development. We recreated... Hey all! Well, this guy isn't completely finished, but man is he close. Modeling, rigging and smart-skinning are all done. I just need make some poses for his hands, a bunch for his face, and... oh yeah, um, texturemap him. I know the showcase is for -finished- stuff, but I really like the color scheme as it is, and decided to try it out. Phew! It's been a long time since I posted at hash. I finally got the opportunity to use 3D in my cartoons again and figured you guys might like a look. The UFO will become quite an integral part of the storyline of my current comic. The only problem is that it only gets updated each week and it's fairly slow paced. Hello, all! I just bought A:M about three weeks ago, after reading a press release that an OS X version had been released. I'm not a 3D artist, but I am a graphic designer and A:M seemed like an affordable way to experiment and play with 3D. Anyway, as I started playing, I decided I'd focus on trying to figure out how to model some of the comic characters I'd worked on in the past and decided I'd start with a parody of Star Trek I'd started as a web comic back in 1996 and then did as a PDF comic in 2000. Hi Hashers I have to post this cos it is basically driving me nuts, so I thought one of you lovely lot could help me try and figure it out. I have attached an image which is a comp of two separate leaf textures I am working on. Both where created in exactly the same way and applied in the same way. Yet the one on the left has the obvious halos around it's edges the one on the right doesn't. Why am I getting this? I have tried using alpha channels incorporating anti-aliased edges and non-antialiased edges - both produce the same results. Hi, I am trying to render an image that looks like fairy dust emitting from a simple ball object. I used a sprite and when I render the image(with alpha) it looks great. Fairy dust is emitting off of the object and it looks like a comet. But it only looks good when I look at it in quicktime. When I bring it into programs like an AVID or final cut all I can see is the object and not the sprites. I need to render it with the alpha because I want to use this comet as a transition between shots(a lot of shots). I am posting two images. Just a quick screenshot of the model I'm currently working on...Tara. I'm working in 10.5 and this is the first time I've got to a point where I'm happy with the way a character model is progressing. This is about a week's worth of evenings work. However I wanted to get some feedback from A:M veterans at this point. Where do I need to focus my attention. BTW, ignore the far side of the face, I have been wroking on smoothing out the bumps in the near side only. So, for example, the bump in the eyelid is pretty much sorted in the near side of the model. All the textures are temporary. Apart from that, don't spare my feelings! -Mark.

Okay... this was my first model right out of the box..... I have since changed my mind about the design (I am working on an independent production that will have animated aspects, and decided to try it myself) I feel it needs to be weathered.... so it doesn't look so shiny and new. And, I'm having some difficultied boning it so things don't overlap... the rockets are designed to rotate on the base, and revolve 360 around an axis, but they seem to turn off the axis at certain angle.... I would like to figure out how to "limit" their movements to one axis. You can't get too technical with me.... I will admit I'm more creative than technical. So.... whadd…

OK...I had a glitch that was crashing my render and lost a few days, but here is the Mustang again...added more detail- rear parking lights...wheel decals... this test shows some rigging...wheels turn...steerage etc... I am trying to capture in animation some of the 'overboard-dynamics' that cartoonists have been putting in illustrated cars for years. GLITCHES: Ms.D's hair goes thru the roof...I'll have to add an interior roof panel with normals facing down and hope the collision detection honors it. Although I am quite a fast learner, and if I had the time I would attempt it myself, I am looking for someone to volunteer there talent in decaling and modeling to assist me with my upcoming project.
