Just thought I would post some shots of how my new model project is coming along. I have been asked to do some shots for a Star Wars Fan film (for free of course). 5 shots each revolving around a babies head - so I need a babies head model (very specific since they already have shots of the baby I need to duplicate the real one......) and it needs to be rigged for basic baby facial work. Unfortunately I have only a front roto to work from so I have to 'wing it' somewhat. So I will welcome comment/recommendations about how it's working out as I progress. For those wanting to learn how to model a face - I highly recommend "Model a Face with Bill Young" c/- Anzo…

I hesitate to post this in Showcase, these clips are mostly execises and wips, but since I probably will not revisit most of them I'll consider them finished. These were done with versions 8.5 all the way thru ver 12. All models are mine with the exception of one clip that contains the Mt Hash model in the background, and of course, Thom and the Knight's helmet and sword. And oh yeah, those are my kids in the rotoscope shot. http://home.alltel.net/collinsfamily04/AMDemoSmallSound.mov Cory

Hi all, Here's something I've been working on in my spare time. I'm trying to go a little more realistic to see what I can do with the v11 hair. It's a pretty boring hairstyle at the moment, but I hope to give it some shape eventually. Jim

I raised this last time I used AM and got nowhere. The 3DConnexion *standard* axis for Spin and Roll are swapped in AM. Last time I raised this (years ago) I was told this was what certain AM users wanted and it wouldn't change. Would a request to add a user option to use the 3DConnexion *default* axis be considered? Cheers

My nephew turned five today and is having a birthday party this weekend. After seeing some Cake Boss episodes a few weeks ago, I'm wondering if I could do a custom cake for him. His favorite super-hero these days is J'onn J'onz, the Martian Manhunter. For some reason, he doesn't like it if you call him Martian Manhunter, only J'onn. :-) Anyway, I cranked up A:M tonight and did this mockup of what the cake might look like:

Simple cumulus clouds from a sprite emitter Clouds05MP4.mov Haven't quite gotten the emitter itself to stay transparent so you don'tsee it in transit. PRJ Clouds06.zip edit: dark sky variant sprite... CloudSprite4_dark.tga They're actually faster onscreen in real-time than they are to render to a movie.

Ok.. I'd been playing with this idea for quiet sometime. Don't know if you guys know who Edward fudwupper is.. but its one of my favorite kids books from one of my favorite illustrators. I'd allways thought my son Cooper looked a little like Edward.. and I had to give it a shot. The how to; I use photoshop Liquify.. ALL THE TIME... for all sorts of things. From time to time.. I use it like the old morph tools to make funny faces. I took this photo... http://www.colins-loft.net/free/Coopsand.jpg and manipulated it to this in Photoshop.. http://www.colins-loft.net/free/ComicCoop.jpg As I did this.. it struck me that the same thing could be…

Last year I modeled a toy boat, the Santa Maria. Ever since then I had the itch to create a fairly realistic Pirate Galleon. It's almost finished, but I thought I'd share before heavy texturing starts. This project is for my portfolio. Thanks for looking... Eric

[formerly "GeazerBot] I'm dusting off a project I've neglected for over a year. I want to rig him up for animation, but need a somewhat simplefied or restricted motion given how he is constructed. His knee and elbow joints need to rotate about a single local axis as they are simple hinge joints. Anybody know how to restrict the movement accordingly? Same goes for the "toe" joints on his feet and most of the finger joints. Oh, yah...he also only swivels around one axis at his waist as well. All the other joints are ball and socket joints, so they can have a very wide freedom of movement accordingly. http://wjgaylord.brinkster.net/GeazerBot_f-b.jpg …

I was going to wait 'til this was up on AMFilms, but I have a feeling it may be a while until it's updated, so... May I proudly present: Soap Opera (11 MB, 5:28, On2 + QDesign codecs) All the animation is mine. All the music is Jeff "Godfrey" Lee's (well, with some help from Mozart). The modeling and texturing is a collaboration between myself and Jeff, as is the, ahem, singing. The full details are in the credits reel at the end; it was originally going to be anonymous for the contest. Special thanks due to the folks at MAAM who saw an early version and provided much-needed encouragement. I'm very proud of this, but comments and criticism ar…

I'm rebuilding my favorite character, Clay... "we have the technology, we can rebuild him" For those who've never seen Clay, you can check out the old version at my web site. I'm pretty happy with the mesh and the more life-like appearance he's got now, but I can't help feeling that he looks kinda generic. Of course, textures will help with that but IMO, I think a good model should look great before texturing. So, if any of you kick-butt character designers have any suggestions on improving my beloved Clay, I'd love to hear about it! Thanks!

This is one color material... and one displacement material (the skin detail is very faint but it's there)... and no maps! a turn-around: platesAllDispH264.mov platesAllDispH264.mov Yeah, it's got some pops.

This is the "Nice Tan" glam pic for eggprops. It includes the Yves Poissant skin shader that gives it that nice "warm" look. It does have a significant hit on render times. . . and the material works ok without it but with it. . . oooo wee. . . sexy huh!?! You can see it on eggprops <here> And then we have. . . a Zombie material. Very clean elegant material. Make sure to shoot them in the head. . . its the only way to kill them. . . . It can be found <here> And then the last one is a cool Reptile material. And that can be found <here>

I know ya'll like these so I'll post this as bad as it is. There are a bunch of things to fix on it. - the spin of the green car - how the truck sits wonky on the side of the road - green car noses too far The spin and directions came from the Accident Reconstruction guy, I just need to make them look more believable. I can post this cause you really make out the details from here. David http://www.dustinproductions.com/files/pd-7-7-06.m1v

All of a sudden I was having problems rendering TGA decals, using 15.e. I tried everything but kept getting artifacts. I finally installed 15.0J+ and now things are rendering right again. I put jeans and a t-shirt on Knuckles and deleted the underlying body mesh. I think I'm gonna leave him bare-foot and rig his toes while I'm learning to rig. So over the next couple of days I'll be studying up on the 2008 rig.

Another project that got out of hand. Taking a break from animating a talking fish, I built this character. I've always itched to make this style of cartoon head/mouth. Then I decorated him. Well hot off the ol renderer, the second elemental unit. Gonna try rigging this fella with the posable squetch install this evening. Which promises to be a challenge. Hey at least this guy has facial features so I might even try hooking up some of the FACE controls. oh an here's a second smaller shot from when Iwas in the middle of texturing him. Updates to follow as I get into rigging him.

From- Dark Skull Productions including John Hubickey and Rich Jackson: Greetings all, An episodic space opera/ action adventure movie will be coming soon, called TekNu. The project should end up being around 20 episodes. So far, there is a web site with WIP videos, the story and episode descriptions, also the site includes details about the characters that will be seen. The web site is still under construction so some areas are not complete. We should be in a more complete state after the holidays. Late in January, work will continue and we might have the first episode by the end of the month. Here is the URL for the web site: DarkSkullProductions.com …

After some tinkering with the SDK I have come up with something that might be useful to at least someone. The plugin has a lot of parameters to tweak and although they have rather informative names I guess it might be hard without any help. When I find time for it, I'll make some example projects to get you started. Please note that this is a time limited beta version. When it expires in a couple of months a message will be shown when you start up A:M. The message will stop showing when you uninstall the plugin or upgrade. Also note that this is a rather simple procedural texture plugin and nothing that is capable of producing photo realistic effects. At le…

Hi all, About to get started on the next episode of Cheese Wars and since it's been a long time, whipped this little render out just to make sure the guys still worked. For the first time, Cheese Wars is going to be a collaborative effort. We've got a few people signed up already, but if anyone else is looking for something to do, there's always room for more. We still need some modeling and texturing done, mainly props, but the Alien is going to need a makeover too. And you can never have enough animators. Thanks, Gregg

Hey everyone! My, it's been a while since I've posted here Im quite disapointed in that. If you can remember, my friend and I had to stop our Star Wars film (due to copywrite) So we started our own film.. But now that first semester is over, we finally get to work without it being due for a certain day. With that I went back to re-make the terible Marine I put together for end of class.. Introduction: I’m remaking an old Christmas video called “Twas the Night Before Christmas” that I did three years ago. As I completed scenes, I thought I would blog them here for general discussion of animated short making and have everyone critique what I am doing. I originally did this piece as a video Christmas card however in my ignorance of delivering video, most of the people I sent it to didn’t have the bandwidth or a powerful enough computer to view it. This year I will make it into a DVD and hope for a wider audience. I started about the first of July and am shooting for completion by December 19th. While I would love a lot more time, I am going to mak…

A:M has been my main hobby for almost 19 years. (My oldest copy of the render module, render.exe, is dated Feb. 26, 1993). Over that time A:M has improved and I've learned a lot about modeling, texturing, lighting and observing the real world. Now that I'm getting comfortable with my new hardware, Win7_64 and v16 I've decided to go through every one of my models to bring them to a consistent level of craftsmanship. The first model to get an upgrade is the brick facade of a warehouse-like building. I don't usually keep old renders but in this case I have the warehouse from: 2001 - Toonation Brick Plug-in, simple lighting model, procedural sky, incredible day-glow colo…

I've reached the point were I need to learn how to use the function curves to edit the ease in and out after the keys have been set. This is something avoided for a long time but, have to learn some time. I have a figure hitting a tree top and that then bends down with the weight and force of impact. It bends over to the point were its going to snap back and launch him upwards. I'm reasonably happy with the keys but would like to adjust the curves so that there is a chance for the facial expressions to read. There are five bones on the tree. If I open up the graph editor which are the axis that I need to edit, x, y, or Z and what is it that needs to be adjus…
