-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.

-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

i´m workin on a hammy-like squirrel-character to learn more about hair. i figured out how to work with decals on hair, in this case i´ve decals for the color, the length and the density of the hair... first i had only one hair system, and it looked totally like a stuffed plush toy... then i added a second one, so that i now have a short one with a high density (375) and a long one with low density (25).. looks way better now, but i´m still not satisfied. i still get this kind of pattern, it looks not really natural... i thought about adding a third system, but i doubt my computer can take any more. the image i added took about 1 and a half hours to render (multipa…

i have to exports models made in animation master to wavefront obj. i think i stumbled over an export to wavefront anywhere in animation master, but i dont remember where and i have searched long now, i cant find it. where is ist , and if i am wrong, how can i achieve to export directly to .obj files? is there some good a:m plugin link list out there? there are plenty, but for example the reason for me coming back to animation master after 6 years was the torque exporter, which i didn't find in any of the plugin link lists out there, just stumbled over it accidently thanks in advance

I don't mind IM queries popping up on the screen when I'm modeling, [and if need be, I can clik the window closed] but when I'm rendering the window won't go away. The cursor does nothing. That means that after the chat, I can't get back to the Rendering Window. Can the Chat Room be dissabled?

Hello everyone What is the one best method of texturing models in AM? I know there's Decals and Stamps, and I've seen the various videos on this topic @zandoriastudiosvideo on YouTube was a big help Although it seems the process might be a little too involved? Or has it changed in recent versions of AM? Is there a video tutorial that explains the process of taking a model to texturing and decaling and baking for export? Thanks!

So I'm working on 'The Door's Stuck' and want to be able to quickly adjust timing between some keyframes. *** I am working on a Mac if it makes any difference. *** What are some techneques(sp) people use to add and delete space between keyframes to play with the timing? There is a command in the edit menu, (can't remember it's exact name) that I'm assuming is used to do this but it is asking for four different inputs and I am not sure what goes where. I'm hoping there's a way to just window select stuff in the timeline and drag it where I want it to be. Thoughts?

Howdy guys, I run across a new problem today as I continue my AM learning journey. Suddenly, when I use "copy, flip, attach" on my model, the objects are placed on top of and upside down to the original piece rather than becoming an attached mirrored image (thus making a whole) like I want (and what I used to get). I assume this means that an X or Y axis needs to be changed somewhere, but where, on what, and how? Thank ye much... - Mikre

I'm doing some stills with some primitive ojects and render them as PNGs. The good thing about pngs is, that the background is saved transparent and you can use the pictures in presentations or others. But i don't want just the object but also the shadow of the object. so I switched the floor to "shadows only" and it doesn't render anymore, but also there are no shadows. I rendered it with the toon renderer - does this option not work with this renderer?

One of the most rustrating things about learning a new app., is remembering where the tools live. I know I managed this once before, but for the life of me, I cannot remember where to go to specify a image as a Bump Map.

Running ver. 16 and have been trying to add video to cloth sheet. (cloth not added to model yet) I import my image/animation, now when I go to apply it to the model I am unable to find 'Add Decal' I see 'Add Image'....... Any way when it is applied to the model it looks like below. Why is it placed in each section? Why is it flipped, flopped, right side up and upside down? Maybe I never noticed it before?!?

I'm starting from scratch working through the David Rogers book. When it comes to making a torus without rotating the to-be-lathed circle, but instead moving the pivot point, I'm unable to get the pivot PRECISELY where I want it. I can move the x/y/z position in the manipulator properties window, but is there a precise way to rotate the pivot axes, to make SURE it ends up rotated 90 degrees (or otherwise) and not 89? Is there something I can hold down when rotating so that it automatically snaps in 5 (or other) degree increments, or somewhere in the PWS where it shows the rotation? Also, when translating the pivot, is there a way to restrict the translation to one axi…

Hi, I'm new to animating and I wanted to know what was the best to do: create a bunch of actions we load in a choreography or create some actions and modify them in skeletal mode directly in the choreography to suit a particular movment. The problem I found with the second option is that, when we animate in the choreography, it also modify every following actions that we give to the model. I have another question about actions: How do we smooth the movment fron 1 action to the second one. I mean, my guy is walking and then stops to idle. How do we make the transition between walk and idle without creating a new animation between these two? thanks tido

I'm going through the second exercise, and I'm having an impossible time moving the actors into position. With an actor selected, moving the mouse left or right moves the actor left and right. Moving the mouse up or down moves the actor forward and back. How do I move the actors up and down? I'm sure its something stupid that I'm over looking, but I can't see it. Is there an easy way to select an actor when there are multiple models in the choreography, and is there an easy way to work with moving things around?

Hey all. Having a real nightmare with this. I'm under the gun to get a banner done for a convention next week and I need to get the finished file off to the printer but A:M isn't cooperating. I've attached an image of the error I'm getting as well as the project file (I embedded all) I am working with and I'll attach the images I'm using as decals as well. don't even know where to start. to the left, a render with an object with a decal appointed as displacement map, 200% to the right, a model view with said decal as color, just to illustrate here. there are so many things going WOW! so just pick one.. any one.. what is UP with this render? been following a tut on the xtras dvd, a battleship side. didn't seem difficult. hoping this is not of the "turn the lights on!" type of problems? does the decal have to cover all of topography to render? didn't even bother to position it for testing - and the round gaps will have modelled detail eventually, without displacement map.

I am having trouble rendering a video with horizontal lines (siding) on a building. The horizontal lines appear to swim across the building as the camera moves towards it. I’m not sure what you would call it, Aliasing? Video Noise? Once the camera gets within about 5 to 8 feet of the building, it suddenly stops – (actually it drops to a reasonable level). I have tried changing the focal point & depth of field – see below. I’m planning to do a virtual walk thru of several buildings. The camera is constrained to a path for its movement relative to the buildings. The building is a simple rectangle with decals applied to it. The decals are bitmap images …

When I try to add an AVI file either as a new layer or rotoscope, I get this error: Exception # 019 in the "AVI" image to plugin. This happens with most of the AVIs I happen to have available on my computer or create with my other software ( Sony Vegas Movie Studio). A few I tried from another source also wouldn't work because they are 32-bit. I don't think the ones getting the error above are 32 bit, so what's the problem? I've also tried adding MOV files, also created in Movie Studio, and get the error: Invalid image file Unsopported file type, or image plugin missing. I know I'm probably missing some simple step, but don't know where t…

Greetings. I've had a question pop up in my head while going through tutorials, looking at others' work and so on. I notice some projects set lathe cross-sections to 4, others to 6, or to 8. I saw one using 12. And I wonder "how would I know how many to use in my projects?" So, I decided to stop trying to figure it out myself, and just ask. What a concept! Is there a certain method used to work this out? Is it "pick one and adjust as you go?". Are there specific factors to determine this? Is it something where it's "okay" to choose too many or too few and adjust later as needed? Thanks!

I'm fooling around with the lights and camera to get a better feel in how to use them fast and easy and tried to have them circle around static object (model) With both the light/camera I through I could easily draw a circle path around my object and have aim at the object to keep it centered all the time. Sorry for starting so many new threads, but I'm basically diving headlong into A:M this weekend, and I've taken all next week off to submerge myself in it. So bear with me. The trouble I'm having right now is that when I start a new action, a few bones (thigh and calf) are missing from my rig. When I lift the foot, or pull down the pelvis, the knee bends properly. So it is seeing the bones and the model is responding properly, but I cannot see them, nor select them to manipulate them. I could assign coordinates mathematically, but that would be a nightmare to have to do that every time, and I like to be able to see the skeletal structure as I animate. All othe…

The problem is when I pull the TV into a Chor it doesn't show the video when I render it. Not sure what I am doing wrong - is there a setting in the options that I am missing or something? I may get a little long winded, so please feel free to move on to a more interesting post. I was a child in the 50's, watching Lassie and the Beaver in first run in black and white. My dad had one of the very first remote controls: Me. In Junior High in the early 60's I explored Time and Space with Heinlein, Asimov, and Van Vogt. I went to my first concert in 1965. The Beatles played the Memorial Coliseum here in Portland Oregon. In the late 60's I explored Time and Space in a different manner, and from the few high points I remember, I had a pretty good time. Pong became a sensation and "Asteriods" became astronimical entertainment at a quarter a pop. …
