This is the intro to a home movie I am sending to my girlfriend currently deployed in Iraq. The movie is a compilation of greetings from friends and family, updates on news from the home front (not really important here). The mood I was after for the intro was the surreal ambiance of fall foliage in dawn light. We are from Colorado so of course fall foliage means, for the most part, Aspen trees. The under-the-bridge is sort of her joke, claiming that I would probably spend her year away sitting under a bridge somewhere drinking whiskey. As far as the joke goes, I am sure she will get it. There is an artifact I don’t understand if someone has some insight. …

I was messing about with my rigging a couple of weeks ago and ended up getting sidetracked with this thing. I'm posting this early test for a laugh. Rip it to shreds at will. I know about the fingers not actually looking like they are doing thier job. Looks more like shrimp legs. It has evolved a bit since this and has had a little adventure but needs more work before rendering. I have a few ideas where he would be quite handy

Is there an option where the grid lines would match the ruler markings? Like if it's inches then I expect each grid line to line up with the inch marking? [attachmentid=12779] Better pic [attachmentid=12780]

Over the last two months, I have, on three occassions, found models missing from the Choreography. They are still present in the Objects, and in the PWS. They are still lisrted among the Choreo. objects, but do not appear in the actual set. In this instance, the Armored Car is gone. Before that, both self-propelled guns were gone; before that, one of the troopers. Has anyone else had this happen?

anyone who has seen my work knows I like the bugeyes I use. What I am asking is to borrow some of you folks talents Would someone design me some killer bugeyes that look really good and I can alter in color to match the character I am making? in other words Some of you are true geniuses when modeling and I am not. I am just asking for some killer bugeyes like I use. But much better. lol just the eyes. and eyelids. Thanks! Gene P.S. this is gonna be interesting if anyone does it.

I am getting more confident in my modeling ability, so I thought I would challenge myself and TRY to model a motorcycle. Below is a couple of pics of the actual bike and the front wheel that I started on. I think one of my problems is too many CPs, but as you can see from the CPs pic there is a lot of detail around the wheel rim and the indented black area - that I have a lot of CPs in, which I think I need, but not sure if there is a simpler and better way to do it - I would love any advice on that and anything else. Also, the tire I just put a torus on there as a filler - I'll do the tires last and try to get suggestions on the best way to do it. Thanks for any …

Hello there! After longer abstinence I finally started A:M again and thought that a pumpjack would be a good exercise for a mechanical object. Moving parts in various directions for rigging, both big and small parts to model. Right now it's in the "big parts completed" stage (attached is a quick render from the modeller). Next steps: adding details like nuts and bolts, some gears and vents for the engine box, struts, walkways and ladders. Still lots of work to model but I'll post this with a question: any good tutorials or how-to's out there when it comes to texturing/weathering? I think... no, I know that I'll suck at that - and even though this is just a little si…

box car textures WIP I've been getting more satisfaction from building textures now that I've adjusted my attitude by repeatedly chanting the acronym THWRT (pronounced "thwurt", it stands for "to heck with render times") to overcome my fear of multi-multi-branch materials. I took a chance and mixed modeled rivets (the darker ones) with bump mapped (all the sheet metal rivets) and was pleasantly surprised with the result. I've rationalized their different textures by assuming sheet metal rivets would be made from a different alloy than structural rivets. However the close-up image shows one, not unexpected, hazard to bump maps; the ladder rung's shadow does…

I have been working on modeling more realistic eyes. In the past I have used simple sphere with a decal. The eyes here are more detailed in their construction. The eyes are not spheres but have that shape shown in Steven Tubbrit's tutorial. Larger Image They are based on my interpretation of the following tutorials: Making an eye - by David Simmons Making an eye - by Steven Tubbrit The model is off the cd. I want to fix the ripples in her cheek and add that flesh piece in the corner of the eye. What to you think? Mark

I had already done the excercise a while back but did not like the lack of detail in the excercise. As all of you who have done the excercise know, the rotos supplied do not match in their dimensions. Sure they are decent references, but I wanted something a bit more accurate. So here is my attempt at a little more accuracy. Just to clarify, this is a WIP.

I need to model some accurate head models, and photo rotoscopes were ok, but too hard, boring and hit and miss. So I thought of trying the old projected grid approach. Using an old overhead projector, I projected a grid onto the face of my model at 45 degrees, took a digital photo front on and side on. Using the resultant photos as rotoscopes, the grides lined up accurately and the cps are easily placed in xy space. Just like drawing with a grid.

Hi everyone, I'm having an issue with X file export. here's 2 examples the AM one was exported with animation master, the FM one was exported using Frag Motion. I tried both exports in game engines and the one produced by frag motion works and the one from AM doesn't. One thing to note here is that the X file produced by AM was loaded into Frag Motion then immediately exported to a X file which made it work. What I can tell you about this problem: It is DEFINITELY the bone information that is causing this issue for if I uncheck the bone information section OR export to the older DX7 version (which doesn't hold bone information) it works. I w…

For those of you who missed its debut in September, The History Channel is airing "The Battle of Tripoli" again this week--at 11pm on Thursday the 11th, and again at 3am on Friday the 12th. I believe that is for both east and west coast. However, I have DirectTV and I'm on the west coast, so we get it at 8pm and midnight. (stupid spherical Earth...) So anyway, just be sure to check your local listings. There are sailing ships and maps that were made using A:M, and I have samples on my web site if you happen to miss it. Enjoy!

I have a problem with lightening an acryl-block with an image behind it in A:M. The best result I could archieve till now is a Radiosity-rendering, which looks great except the dark parts behind the acryl-block. Anyone can give me a hint to what to do next? I cant increase the sample-area or the amount of photons (A:M seems to have a limit here). I attached the consolidated projekt (had to replace the image with a dummy-image... but that doesnt matter... The rendering here is a progressiv-one, but it although looks like that in final-rendering. I am talking about the chor "Radiosity_Acryl" here. There I am combining Arealight-Shadows with Radiosity. …

http://www.gentlechifitness.com/new_page_10.htm I got word that I can disclosed this, and it was a paid assignment, yee haw! I hope to animate this someday. I have kind of been animating this on the side to make sure it works. This was kind of a fun character to make. Its a compound bow, a fishing rod, and a shotgun. What thought went into how to make a inanimate object to life? It was a task and challenge that I love doing. I wasn't expected to even discern the sex of the object?

Very old Greek pottery in the late 7th and 6th centuries B.C.E practiced something called "black figure", where they painted imagery with black glaze or "slip" on the red clay. A couple centuries later they reversed that to do "red figure" where they used the black to cover the negative space around the image they were making. After seeing examples of this work at a museum I wanted to try to recreate some of that look, including the numerous fractures they tended to have after being buried in a dump for 2000+ years. Thom is a cylinder wrapped decal. The break lines are a combiner material.

Hello... I'm wondering if there's another tutorial somewhere that would be a good replacement for the giraffe tutorial in the AOA:M manual? Reason is, I'm getting a head-ache trying to discern, from the side view, where the leg on the "far side" ends and the one I'm supposed to be tracing starts.. it's all sorta just combined together.. Also, the tutorial sorta leaves out what I think is an important detail.. It instructs you to shape the neck from the top - but there's nothing really to shape it from. There is the top "seam" decal, but it doesn't have a head and I don't know how large to scale it to to make sure I'm not adjusting things too big or small.. …

I dug up an old shot from a project that eventually moved production overseas. It was only half finished but I liked where it was going (though the director disagreed). Anyway, I wanted to take it to completion. It'll give me a chance to get up to speed on the post 8.5 interface since the last big production I worked on (Day Off the Dead) was all 8.5. I figure I'll document the improvements as I go here. Any and all suggestions, no matter how brutal are welcome. Here's where it was left in Dec. 1999: shot40c (1.81MB QuickTime)

Trying something I usually don't do and that is modeling. I am posting a wireframe and shaded wireframe to help with my questions. This model will be animated and I was wondering if the normal rigs will work when there are no hand or mainly feet. And any potential trouble with the model ..I noticed that the arms could use another ring or two of splines....There will be no mouth only implied by the bouncing of the nose. And I have to add a tail. The skirt will be cloth. [attachmentid=18162] [attachmentid=18163] Thanks Johnl3d
