I was thinking about models and modeling and had a question for the group. Has anyone taken an old model and reworked the Cps to produce a new model. Not added or removed CPs, but just relocated the existing CPs to create a new character. What I'm thinking is that it takes probably as much time to decal, bone, rig, smart skin, etc as it does to build the underlying mesh, so would it be reasonable to take an existing mesh, with all the decals, bones, rigs, etc already set up and reposition CPs to give the model a new appearance. Okay, so in order to be able to continue my animation excersices I need a fully functioning character. It's rare for one of my modeling brainwaves to work right out of the gate with no rethinks and no tweaks. But lightning does strike occasionally. The image shows the first test renders of a bump decal to simulate the look of a welded joint either butt or fillet. As is usual for me the decal started out as a spline model with a black to white gradient material applied. If anyone's interested I can make the model and material available.

Edit: No need to try this anymore. I have ascertained enough to send a bug report. Thanks! load this PRJ, select the camera view (number pad 1), and select model you see there. Switch between Director mode and Skeletal Mode. Can you see the shade thru the window in both modes or just one? CantSeeThruGlass.prj What graphics card do you have?

I a starting my steam punk Short. So using a Top down methodology I am starting with the control panel, working out to the wheel house then to the boiler and engine room, and then throwing a skin on the whole thing. Here is the gauge panel. the colors are place holders at this point.

Ever since I saw Lee's awesome Ironman, and then the movie, I've been wanting to model the hero. Here is my start. I don't have much time these days for modeling (heck, I'm a slow modeler anyways) so this will take a bit of time to flesh out. Happy New Year and enjoy.

Hello! Seniors at my high school are required to complete a project for a final grade. It is supposed to occupy over 15 hours of time to create and blah blah blah... I am choosing analogue photography. I plan on doing a video and I need some titles for each section. Here is the first one, it is for small tank developing: FilmDev_720_A_0.mov I made an 8 light skydome for the cheap AO effect. I used the AA render for the DOF too. I know the 35mm is totally lame looking but it is meant for illustrative purposes only. Photoman

Well, it's showdown time again, and this time 'round the topic was Walking a Tightrope. Yow! Greetings, Looking for some feedback wrt things like hooks nd 5-pt patches. Some people don't seem to use 'em.. Me, I can't seem to spline my way around corners, so to speak. Hello friends. I just finished one of my latest models. It is a "design" mobile phone I made just for fun. I had no idea of how it would en up like, but I don't think it ended up that bad. This is all a work in progress, but I figured I throw something up for feedback. I modeled the star freighter first and then the engine room as a separate model to be merged inside. I'm trying to block in my shots at this point... so no detail on the models either. Here is the star freighter itself... and the engine room with two characters for scale. This is a portion of the outside shell with the engine room model merged into it (to save patches). More to come as I get it cranked out...

I have actions set that go beyond the length of where I need the Chor Lengh to be. I set the length of Chor to 1:20:00 and that is fine while the project is opened and things render correctly. I have several items that move along a path. But then when I exit and restart, the Chor Length goes back to a very long time. I know what the issues is - it is resetting to the longest action in my project. I have 1000's of items that were dropped in ( TREES ). Each Tree was added as I found the camera angle to be exposing areas where I needed to see trees. I know what someone is going to say - go edit each tree / item and reduce the action line for each on…

I've just finished creating the phoneme's for my character and just had to try and figure out how this stuff works, so i Watched the "can you say that" video tut and attempted to make my own, a couple hours later out came this: Clip (890Kb Divx 5.03) Any feedback would be more than welcome I must say how impressed I am with A:M's implementation of the dopesheet etc etc..it was as easy as it appears in the video. However I did wind up with a bunch of keyframes that fall inbetween frames, is that normal? Laters

Here's the completed logo I started a few months ago. It uses a slightly modified directors chair that was donated and a modified version of Woot from the TWO movie. Thank you Martin for permission to use it. I changed the shape of Woot's head and completely changed the color of the textures so he didn't appear greenish. I know this is the WIP thread but I couldn't find the thread for finished projects. Oh and Robert, I hope the finished shot clears up the drowsy look of the monkey hehe. Here it is. FMP_LOGO.mov

For a discussion on the trombone forum about how to have a convenient practice trombone small enough to play inside a car. I propose to chop the slide to have only 4 (rather than 7) positions and fold the unused portion back up the slide, so that the total length of the horn (and pitch) remain the same.

I have a digital camera and took a few pictures of the office where I work and tried to add the free t-rex to a couple of pictures. This was the dino rendered in Am on black background ,cut in out then added to a layer in PS. In PS I copied just the desk to another layer then put that in front of the dino layer . Added a shadow layer effect and tried to do a reflective layer of the dino on the desk area. Is there any suggestions on how to do this better This seemed to work okay

Hi. I got this software called VRHotwire that lets you add tracks to QT panos and cubics. It' like Livestage, I think , but cheaper and rougher around the edges. I made a virtual tour with a QT cubic as the main node. I added a sound track and a small animation done in A:M. Comments welcome. Look down to see the animation. Cubic I'd love to hear from someone with Livestage on how it is adding this kind of stuff, and if there is a way to minimze the speed loss when adding animations to cubics.

The attached QT file is a really rough walk cycle and is not shown to demonstrate how not to do it, even though you could probably use it for that purpose, but to demonstrate some strangeness to do with dynamic bones and particles in A:M 11.1g. This model has small dynamic chains in the shirt tails that hang below Woot's belt and collision detection is turned on. The first two paces are rendered with particles turned OFF so no hair is generated. The next two paces are rendered with particles turned ON and look what happens to the dynamic chains.

This is based on sketches my 15 year old couzin drew, she's an insane 2d artist at this age already, i'm thinking she'll be working in the industry in no time. I'm doing this model to try and show her she should get AM and turn her characters into 3D. He's still in progress of course but comments and crits are welcome. Eventually he'll get a nice big blade, and most likely a gun of some sort as well. I think i'm happiest with his gloves as it was rather complex to place the gaps into them.
