Here is an attempt at getting an image with a cool morning light feel. The background is just a decal with cool light color applied and some fog effects. The foreground is modeled with a lot of small individual lights to give the impression of bounced lighting off the floor and walls, etc. Does it work? Any suggestions for improvement?

This is part of an idea for the DVD ball in out project but I'm wondering if its too weird I animated Shaggy running and saved it with an alpha channel made a flat plane and added hair using the Shaggy animation as the hair image moved the plane in the chor made ball model and roughly animated it as if the crowd of Shaggys were moving it along that needs tweaking But I'm wondering is this too weird of an idea to finish Have a few other ideas Has a deadline been set for entries? q1test.mov

I know, making a tunnel, and have a camera flying trough is one of the very first ideas almost every AM artist comes up with, in an very early stage ... anyway, i deceided to do something like this, just for fun, again. The tunnel is a bit longer and the flyby will have about 1000 frames. The texture is a enhance Darktree (i can highly recomend Darktree and enhance Dartktree), and i used a bloom post effect on the camera. I am quite happy with the rendering. What i am thinking about, is to make the athmosphere more submarine like, have the fog a bit stronger and add some solwly drifting particles ... jsut an idea ... what do you think? cheers, Heiner

Working on a treasure chest right now. So far, I have extruded 2 shapes to make up the lid and the body of the chest. I chose to do it this way since I wanted the chest to have some depth to it, and not a knife edge on the walls that make up the lid and body. However, now I'm left with the problem of closing the ends off. What would be the best way to go about doing this? I know I can probably come up with something that will work, but not sure it will look "nice". Is there an existing "best practice" for capping surfaces like this?

ok, i got a big big problem here, deadline is in 2 days... i have this shot i need to render in high quality, at least 2000x1500 px.... the soccerfields grass is a hair system, color driven by a decal. when i rendered it in vga-resolution for a test with low hair-density (5%) everything looked fine, but when i increase the density parts of the hairsystem renders white, not green anymore... the higher the density-value, the more parts of the grass are rendered white. i use a skylight rig with 25 lights, wich was no problem in the past, also in combination with a field of grass made with hair with similar density-values and size... i tried almost everything: rendered …

I was inspire by Xtaz's image and desription of Image Based Lighting using HDR images. My results weren't as impressive, but i don't have the patience to wait 6 hours to see how it turns out. I do like how it worked, but I added 2 lights to give the object some shadows. I didn't get shadows from the IBL alone. I don't know if that comes with more passes. Maybe someone can fill me in. Here are the images I did get. I'm showing the fully lit image and ones with IBL only and Kleigs only for comparison. I plan on doing more testing to get IBL figured out better. Any info or comments appreciated.

I'm going to attempt my second real animation. It's going to have a story this time, one about a doodle of a stick figure. But before I do anything elese I need to model a stick figure (shouldn't be be too hard). Oh, and how do I take pictures of my models and everything so I can post them on the forum? Sincerly, Masna

Hello everyone, As you all should know this weekend is Mother's Day. I won't be with my mom on Mother's day morning, so I decided to make her breakfast in bed anyway using A:M! BTW, does anyone know how to make a solid looking klieg? I still have to texture and add a lot more but heres what I have so far:

HEY! Sorry if this has been a topic before, I may have missed it...but I just caught a great 'toon made with A:M at YouTube.com called 'Slap Happy'... UN-friggin-believably cool... credits go to R.Cory Collins and Eggington for the set... WARNING: 'Three Stooges' slap-stick humor. AND--- I just found another one called 'SPRUNT' by Stuart Lloyd...HILARIOUS! I won't give the link because I don't want to offend the 'parents' among us. BIG WARNING do not search for this if you are easily offended by sexual-themed animations...DEFINATELY DO NOT SEARCH FOR SPRUNT ON YOUTUBE. It's actually amazing to see some of the work being done by people who …

Hi. I'm quite new to these boards, although I have been meddling with A:M since I first got it back in 1998. Having never been able to draw or otherwise articulate my visual sense of artistry (or lack of same) it was manna from heaven. This female head is the latest of my attempts and is mainly designed to experiment with animation of facial expressions. Ken Baer encourages us to post our work, and I gladly listen to any critique and suggestions this generous and kind forum has to offer. Peter

This is all a work in progress, but I figured I throw something up for feedback. I modeled the star freighter first and then the engine room as a separate model to be merged inside. I'm trying to block in my shots at this point... so no detail on the models either. Here is the star freighter itself... and the engine room with two characters for scale. This is a portion of the outside shell with the engine room model merged into it (to save patches). More to come as I get it cranked out...

Not sure this is what was asked but I like the effect. Uses a grid with a animated displacement material applied with a little refraction. The hair is not on because it seems to be acting strangely in this version v12k and it sped up the render [attachmentid=10166] oh an here's the project but the decals for schlitzy are not included but on the cd [attachmentid=10167] actually the screen is begin to look the same must be getting late was going to mention the actiing is a bit too fast but that can be tweaked aniother thing the displacement/refraction could be on a slider and then if need the distortion could decrease and focus would r…

I did this earlier in the summer but never thought to post it. It's a concept chess game that introduces the idea of fog of war. In this version you use a single GBA to play a mutiplayer game (sorry, no AI). http://www.gsddevelopment.com/chessplusplus_final.gba To run it you have to have a GBA emulator... http://www.gsddevelopment.com/VisualBoyAdvance.exe From "gee, let's do a GBA game" and knowing nothing about the hardware to completion took six weeks with only 2 guys working on the whole thing. I did all the art, design and voice acting (yes, even the women).

as I read through the newton physics and rebuild notes I had a thought. An hour and a couple of old models later I got this. Basically I took simple models and used the rebuild plugin to create panelled versions. I thought it was cool and potentially useful for high tech backgrounds, although it does waste a lot of patches. [attachmentid=14460]

Animation and rendering done in four hours as per the showdown rules. He must be wearing rockets on his shoes, huh? Comments and crits always welcome. Zach "I can't tie my shoes in four hours..."

I have a digital camera and took a few pictures of the office where I work and tried to add the free t-rex to a couple of pictures. This was the dino rendered in Am on black background ,cut in out then added to a layer in PS. In PS I copied just the desk to another layer then put that in front of the dino layer . Added a shadow layer effect and tried to do a reflective layer of the dino on the desk area. Is there any suggestions on how to do this better This seemed to work okay

It's rare for one of my modeling brainwaves to work right out of the gate with no rethinks and no tweaks. But lightning does strike occasionally. The image shows the first test renders of a bump decal to simulate the look of a welded joint either butt or fillet. As is usual for me the decal started out as a spline model with a black to white gradient material applied. If anyone's interested I can make the model and material available.

Well, some of you may have wondered what the heck happened to my project Clone Commander. I've actually been slowly sworking on it and had the entire opening sequence, but I realized that if it took me that long to do that with the time I was putting into it, it would take quite awhile. So, I might make it into more of a series. I need suggestions. Series or film? Film would give me more room to work in, and series would probably let people see my work more often. I await your comments!

Here is a new version of the animation I did for the Anzovin Studios' "Setup Machine 2" contest in November. It's basically a commercial showcasing The Setup Machine's rigging capabilities. Toward the end I added a front flip (with a full tuck) for a little extra pizzaz. It goes by fast to stay in sync with the timing of the jumps, so you may need to step through frame-by-frame to appreciate it fully. Lo Res (Quicktime, Sorenson 3, 320x240, 1.1Mb) http://www.scc.net/~mbs/AnzovinContest2_LowRes.qt Enjoy!

I was thinking about models and modeling and had a question for the group. Has anyone taken an old model and reworked the Cps to produce a new model. Not added or removed CPs, but just relocated the existing CPs to create a new character. What I'm thinking is that it takes probably as much time to decal, bone, rig, smart skin, etc as it does to build the underlying mesh, so would it be reasonable to take an existing mesh, with all the decals, bones, rigs, etc already set up and reposition CPs to give the model a new appearance. There is always the potential that the smart skin may not act correctly since the CP positions have changed, but most of the rest sh…

This is a bit from the revised fight scene for Duck Sauce; my awesome team has been helping me make a new version to send to film festivals. I've been posting stuff to the team occasionally, but I liked the way this one turned out enough to show it to the list. The context is that the rubber chicken and the rubber duck are fighting, as the rubber pigeon saves the pink flamingo from certain death. (And what a context that is!) http://www.hash.com/users/zachbg/blog/lowe...ndFight_mp4.mov You can see the original version of the whole film on A:MFilms. Comments welcome!

Hi all! Since I suck at modeling.. I figured I'd focus on the animation for a while and try to get good at that. I went back to the 'Door's Stuck' tutorial and played around a little.. this is just the first un-polished pass so there's a lot of anomalies and timing issues.. but it's just a beginning. Steve Door's stuck first pass..

Here's a rough render of a the first two scenes of a movie I'm creating for our booth at a trade show in Vegas next month. I've been working here as the one-man art department since January and we'll have a couple of big plasma screens showing this piece along with some demonstrations of game play. I've got a rough sound track for the first scene here but it's not included at the moment. I want to get the timing better. This piece is going MUCH smoother than a thing I was working on a few weeks ago. There was something buggy with that piece that I kind of figured out with the help of Noel at AM Reports, but ultimately we decided on a hand-animated approach inste…

well September is nearly over and here is my blog for the month (choose month and select september) http://www.barkerfamily.plus.com/ Its been a pretty tough month as I decided to go and learn Flash as I thought the Flash/A:M combination was something worth exploring. Only today (this morning) have I put together my first movie with these two apps. Its nothing to write home about but as I say the potential is huge. http://www.barkerfamily.plus.com/flash/handshake/index.htm enjoy the blog and the update - feedback as always is very welcome
