Thought some of you might like to see some more detail in my contest entry. Dandy DNA Mechanical Image contest entry. JPEG format. 2000x1366px 2mb Please check out the bubbles on the surface of the goop! That is my favorite part of the whole image! Goop bag detail Just a decal but it looks pretty goopy. I bet that stuff stinks! Anyone who has seen previous bags of goop know that I have been trying to use booleans to cut away the goop but leave the bag. This worked great. I used that technique on the two bags in the box. However I was not 100% satisfied with the final results. I wanted to simplify my project and add more detail to the surface …

I'm modeling some new characters for a story. Here I modeled a character's head after a frontal picture as a rotoscope, then what I did was to apply the decal in the same position as the rotoscope! I'm pleased with the results of this technique. Even though I will have to remake the textures later, I can use this rough picture as a base. One of the problems is that the texture has some 'built in ilumination', because the original foto has a lighting on its own. Even so, I think that little 'cheat' doesn't interfere much with scene lighting yet can improve realism. I tried giving the object an opposite lighting here (from below). …

Hi folks, Andy Gibbons here (using my nephews PC to post these images) Here are a few models for you to have a look at which will be on sale in early 2005. I am starting a web site offering AM character models for sale. The characters are fully set up with various poses and phonemes for lip synch. I will be making versions available which are pre rigged and ready to run through the set up machine. These will have intermediate bones and smartskin set up and ready to use. There will also be versions of the models in the Hash skeletal rig for those thet prefer to animate with it. Just a quick look for you to see what you all think.

Plymouth WIP Building the round gas cap cut-out in the curved rear fender must have been the most time-consuming modeling I've ever done in A:M. It's still not realistically smooth but I've decided that adequate is sufficient.

Bought some perforated steel plates to use with stop frame work, noticed the moire effects when one moved over the other and thought,"Ill photo that". It was too cold to venture out doors ( by UK standards anyway ), so decided to try something similar in AM using cookie cutter decals.Managed to make about 35 over two days. Here are a few of them. Apologies for large file sizes. Grid One was the first one, Two grids, one using circular hole, the other square holes. There was about 10 of those in different settings. Then added colour and different grids.Grid Fourteen and G27 give an indication of those. Then, last night, thought to try cookie cu…

yeah, it sounds crazy, but i guess it's worth a shot. i am trying to create wolfs, specifically wolfs from the anime Wolf's Rain. for now i am going to start with Kiba (the white wolf), so far i made an "outline" of him from these images: ... i am beginning with the nose, then up the face. however, i might need some tips like how to model a wolf's mouth and the eyes. here is what i have so far in wireframe: hope you like it so far, even though it sucks

I need to get this model to look like this picture. I'm using a pose slider in muscle mode to try to create the same surface... wow. Tried applying the image of the crunched vehicle as a displacement map, that didn't work. Tried applying the image as a decal over the top of all the decals, the truck panels with the added decal on them turned invisible when I turn of the crunched decal.. Hmmmmm. The last word on my last bee, was that is was a copy of the Georgia Tech Hornet. My friend says that they copyrighted their logo with that bee on it and it should be ok to use. I still think that eventually there would be a challenge from G.T. I still wish to do an animated version of his logo, but I decided to make my own bee. When I am finished with it he can use it or not but I still wish to use it for a learning project. It may be another week or so before I will have the time to rig him and add some decals for flavor, but here is the start.

Well, it works! Is it just me or does this look like a good ole bag o' goop? Still needs tweaking for its final use of course... I like it! I used a boolean... here is the set up.. Plastic bag mesh. Duplicate bag mesh slightly smaller (bag is transparent... need some air between goop and bag to avoid the transparency artifacts when surfaces are too close. Also avoids accidental pass through of the goop outside of the bag). A box like mesh above the goop shape. Assign box shape to boolean bone. Assign plastic bag to a child of boolean bone so it won't get... booleaned. I then use two different groups and material settings. The boolean shape ha…

there will always be something else to tweak or change slightly but I think I've done most of the major modelling/surfacing stuff. Small stuff left to do - "dirty-smudges" on finger & toenails & teeth. Wrinkles on top of fingers & thumb But basically he's done. I'll now have a go in version 11 but I will do a different character instead.

Hello - This is a little project for my wife whose favorite flower is mildly hinted at by the attached. I started with this by going for a more realistic flower scene but couldn't help myself (after watching Fantasia again) by trying something less literal. I'm posting for your impressions in particular for the pose. How does it read? Thanks. Doug

After a lot of thought and debate I have given myself the green light to start this project. I wanted something short and doable within a six month time line. So with these thoughts in mind I have the following planned. A story that requires... -Only one character model. -Only two set models. -Only 5 prop models. And that's it. I have the story written already. It's based off of a longer script I have planned for the future. I wanted to do a small trailer like project but make the trailer a story in itself. So far the story would only be about 2 minutes long which I think is very much achievable. Keep in mind that this will not be my primary project. …

Hi all! I always was wondering if objects can be set to cast reflections ONLY (and not be visible to the camera in renderings). Is that possible somehow? I'm talking about a sphere around the scene that I want to just cause reflections but keep the renderings alpha channel "clean"... Greetz, Elm.

I dug up an old friend of mine, the stupid robot I made a few years ago. I've been tinkering with SynthEyes the last couple of days. Basically I recorded a video of my desk with my mobile phone and imported it into SynthEyes, did the tracking and adjustments then exported it to A:M. I see there is some jittering on the tracking, but overall I'm satisfied. The animation is just an old and crappy action I made long time ago. Let me know what you think johnny6.mov Here is an small screen capture:

I was experimenting with the Newton Physics in v13 Alpha and found that it is working much better than before. In the attached movie clip you can see several oddly shaped objects falling on top of each other. The lighting is done with Ambient Occlusion and took 33 minutes to render. To set up a sequence like this make any object like a ball and throw it into the choreography. Next you are going to have to set which objects will be used in the simulation. To do this click an object you want to use in the simulation. Go to Plug-in Properties, then Newton Dynamics, and turn Use in Simulation to On. Then you are going to set whether it is a static object or a dynamic obj…

I'm doing a pretty easy 'rolling stock' animation: just simple turning wheels and tank treads. About those treads...I've got a few ideas on how to go about it, but they draw on my old polygon days. I'm wondering that, if I install a bone in each tread plate, and make each bone the child of the one before it 'til I arrive at the last, will the 29 children smoothly follow the 1st parent?

As shown in the first image, I'm installing electric trolley wire down my city street set. The solid copper wire is strung from steel clamps that are supported by multi-strand steel cable. I played with the concept of modeling the cable strand by strand but that turned into a lot of patches for low visibility set dressing. Instead I built some angled half cylinders to generate bump images using a black to white gradient material. So the cables shown in the second image (a view from above) are simple tubes that were straightened in an action and then cylindrically decaled. They turned out much more convincing than I expected. They probably wouldn't hold up if you were…

As some of you may already know, Eric has been working on an EVA pod for my 2001 Discovery project. I was at the next stage of working on the models, which was trying to come up with a Dave Bowman model. Suffice it to say, that didn't work out really well. Figure I will come back to him later. Much later. I think I need to go through the face tutorial again and try to find some good pictures of Keir Dullea. At some point, I need to get a really good Bowman model completed. Anyway, I've been off work the past two days due to some minor surgery, and was getting pretty bored. Not really into watching soap operas during the day, so I thought I would give an EVA pod a go …

I accidentally first posted this in the tutorial section ..so it is being re-posted here.. Hello- Does anyone know if Sprites can be effected by Forces? I haven't been able to get that to work... Question 2) Does anyone know if Sprites can be contained inside another shaped object once they are emitted? For example, once sprites are emitted, can they fill an invisible object so that as the sprties accumulate, a form takes shape? Here is a clip from the second Narnia movie that got me thinking about this effect. It appears there is a quick cut between the particles floating and the humanlike body that they become.. Thanks for any feedb…

It is for a small local company called 'Lush Lawn'... and there was NO script or storyboard. I have a nice 3D model of the region already... you'll like it. CLIENT: Then he zooms into Grand Blanc and joins the logo and we see his nameplate... to introduce him. THEN he sinks into the soil and makes the grass grow... then we see examples of lawns…

I had some time in-between projects and an idea for the 11 second club's provided soundtrack this month, so I slapped together an entry. I don't expect to do well, it's always fun participating tho. The only thing I needed to model was the room to match my vision... the characters and car are all old models from old projects. Now, back to WORK! Trying to follow up on Robert's suggestionI am using Cookie Cut decals for the first time, with mixed results and wondered what I might be doing wrong? This is a PNG of the decal used ( the original is tga ) This is the flat used to put the decal on and this is what happens when I render it. I looked on the forum and there was a suggestion that Multi pass had to be on for cookie cut to show but I'm getting the same result with multi pass on as well. Any help gratefully received. regards simon Cookie_Cut.prj
