** EDIT: 4/8/04, update has been posted on page 3.** Hey there, folkses. I'm making strides in my first big Hash project. The modeling for my merman character is nearly complete -- by complete I mean "all parts are there", not "perfect". I doubt I'll ever get it to that point. Anyhow, I want to make sure the proportions and overall look strike people well. Once I fine-tune that, I'll start decimating unnecessary splines and then -- *gasp* -- texturemap it. I know the bottom of the tail ends a bit ... flat. I'll fix that. Thanks! --Ross

I'm thinking of making stool out of plywood that I can sit on when i practice on my porch. Regular chairs are too short and typically have a rear-ward slant that is uncomfortable. It needs to be something cheap I can leave out there and not worry that it might disappear. I also want it to be adjustable. I'm testing out ideas in A:M with simple shapes. I gave each piece a bone so i can rearrange them in Action 1 to see if I might be able to cut them all from one 2' x 4' piece of plywood. Action 2 is a test of the geometry of a ratchet mechanism for the adjustable seat. RatchetA000.mov Much revision remains to be done, however

Hey Everyone. Often when I am trying to set up that "perfect" camera shot in my scene, I get deceived by the fact that I can see too much of the camera angle. In other words, things beyond the edges of the camera can be seen while placing the camera at a good angle. Then when I render I realize that I got too much or too little in the view. So I made a simple 16:9 "View Blocker" model so that when I'm setting up my camera, I'll have an easier time seeing only what will be rendered. Maybe some of you could use this little help. Here it is. Attached is the model and a choreography with it set up on the camera Also the two pics show with and with…

As the last push on this project commences (5 months and counting), I've been going back and reworking some of the older elements to bring them in line with the most recent - I've been working on this on and off for 3 and a half years so there is a very large difference in quality between the older stuff and the newer stuff! Anyhow, I thought I'd bring something to show and tell this week so here's my main character re-worked and re-textured for 2004. I'm only using decals (no materials) to save on render time and the maps were created in a method almost identical to that documented so well by Jim Talbot. There's some more work to be done on the lips, eye, forehead and sc…

Well I am back once again. This years video should be a lot more detailed I am hoping but the rendering will kick my butt. But it will be worth it. So i will just keep posting screenshots of stuff i am creating. Just keeping my progress up because i wont show any of my family so i want someone to see my progress and maybe help me out with some advice! none of the lighting is final.. and some stuff wont make final cut because of memory and rendering. Last night I did a small lip sync to test the rigging of my remodelled mother wren. It's not quite done (still need to do a little tweaking), but I'd be interested in peoples comments, suggestions etc. http://www.shaunfreeman.com/motherwren_sync.htm

Hey all. I wanted you to have a look at some of the work of a really good artist. He's done quite a number of characters and comics over the years. Some of his art can be seen here: https://www.artstation.com/greyduck I'm currently rigging one character of his, known as the Fanboy. These guys usually show up in numbers and cause mayhem wherever they go. Here's his original model sheet and a rendering of the model I made. I believe he does commission work but I'm not certain if he is doing so at the moment. Feel free to drop him a line. He's usually quick to respond.

Here is a screen grab of the formula you need. The way I set it up is with 2 bones, one has the geometry (bone 2) and the other has the expression (bone 1). The expression is in an on/off pose for bone 1. Bone 2 has a roll like bone 1 constraint in a percentage pose, setting the enforcement to a spline interpolation method. The reason for the numbers that I used in the expression is that, at 1% of the throttle pose the prop will have a full rotation.

A:M has been my main hobby for almost 19 years. (My oldest copy of the render module, render.exe, is dated Feb. 26, 1993). Over that time A:M has improved and I've learned a lot about modeling, texturing, lighting and observing the real world. Now that I'm getting comfortable with my new hardware, Win7_64 and v16 I've decided to go through every one of my models to bring them to a consistent level of craftsmanship. The first model to get an upgrade is the brick facade of a warehouse-like building. I don't usually keep old renders but in this case I have the warehouse from: 2001 - Toonation Brick Plug-in, simple lighting model, procedural sky, incredible day-glow colo…

Hi all, About to get started on the next episode of Cheese Wars and since it's been a long time, whipped this little render out just to make sure the guys still worked. For the first time, Cheese Wars is going to be a collaborative effort. We've got a few people signed up already, but if anyone else is looking for something to do, there's always room for more. We still need some modeling and texturing done, mainly props, but the Alien is going to need a makeover too. And you can never have enough animators. Thanks, Gregg

This isn't quite what Rusty is looking for in his other thread but I'll show it none-the-less... a fly-over of the Aurora curtain effect. Basically two gradient combiners are used to fade out the top and bottom and in the middle is a turbulence combiner, stretched vertically and animated in the chor to move through the mesh of the curtain to give it the undulating look. Hello all- Trying to something VERY simple and thought I would ask the List... Just trying to create a cylinder shape that has a transparency map applied so that the cylinder object gradually fades out. ( please see attachment) At first I thought I would create a Material as an "Environment map" and chose the "cylinder" drop down menu; but I don't think you can define the bitmap that you chose to be a transparency map when applied. Then I thought of simply stamping the transparency map from all four directions (front, back, left, right) directly on the cylinder... but I'm guessing there must be a simpler way to apply a transparency map to a cylinder. …

Ok BakeRod, Dan , and all the others who have asked for more Here's an old piece I did in the first version of master to have fur( was that 7?) From concept to storyboard to broadcast it took six very long weeks. The original script called for 25 seconds of roadkill and 5 seconds of "Mr Explanation" but the client nixed that and it changed to 18/12. It's still one of my favourite jobs but I would have killed for an extra week on the animation, which is "patchy". Small swf file 1.9Mb 320 x 240 Big swf file 4.3 Mb 640 x 480 They're flash files because I like the Spark video compressor and I have it for flash. Right click and "save as" if you want to sav…

I decided it was time to get someone to drive my various vehicles. This guy will perform two roles. The first will be to drive around the pickup truck https://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=48329 . With a change of hats, an added mustache and a pair of goggles he's ready to be a locomotive engineer. My thanks to Mechadelphia for the Saucy Rig. The skin and cloth textures were chosen to make a reasonable impression at a distance, so they tend to break down upon close inspection. The stretching in the coverall decals comes from only flattening and applying a front and rear decal. I suspect I'd get less warping if I had gone for left front, right front, left rea…

Working away on the current project. I rendered the sequence out as a series of TGA files to be composited over a cloud background. Then used a chor to composite them within AM. With this result, S6_Clouds.mov There are two moments when there are distinct movements which should not be there, frame 65 ( 02:15 ) being the first. Checked the new composite file and this was the result. Hey there, I am working on an opener for a short 5-min. news show that will begin in January. I am playing around with an idea for the opener. Shaded Render The idea is that the initial screen will have the title of the show and as the camera flies past all the subsequent screens they will each have various clips featuring shots of the anchors, b-roll from the area and of course corresponding audio as the screens whip past. Then I was thinking the big tower thingy at the end (which has screens...it's just hard to see them right now) would have a "5...4...3..2..1" countdown on the screens as the camera flies past and then some kind of explosion/flash…

While working on the prototype for a game project I was starting up, I created some models of various props and such. I was working in Blender, and so they're all polygonal models. But that's fine. I've decided I'm going to recreate a couple in-particular in Blender. It's a good "1-to-1" comparison and, I think, will help me with learning how to handle splines better, etc. They're a small and medium sized market stand which were going to be used for a market place area of the starting town in my prototype. The medium stand isn't finished as of this screenshot, and actually needed some optimization to be really game ready (3661 faces for just a single, sta…

Hey all, I've been tinkering with this model for a few days and got some good mechanical pieces done. I've hidden all the modeled machined areas and am in the process of animating the machining steps to make the real thing. So, just for fun, here is the first step. Drilling a 3/8" hole in the end of some acrylic. I have to make the material semi-transparent with some translucency to duplicate clear acrylic yet, but you get the idea. The yellow area at the tip of the bit is the particle emitter for the chips and is animating the emission rate. Also, the chips are just square sprites. This was rendered with six Netrender nodes on my design machine in a p…

At this point I have the room and some of the lights, once I feel I have these basic elements right, I will start adding the glasses and the smoke, and the creepy people. Interesting point the door in the back has no texture or color yet and neither does the ceiling. I am not sure I need to add texture to the cieling. Also does anyone hav any tips on shooting in confined spaces? should I pull off a wall or go with wide angles?

Hey guys, It's been like 6 months since I've posted anything content wise! So I took sometime this afternoon to make a quick animation. It's just for practice but it does need some finishing for sure.... But I won't be working on it anymore, as I'm one of those guys who can spend an eternity trying to perfect things.... and those are the people who usually never finish anything! Anyhows... check it out! Here is one of my characters for an upcoming project. His name is Pana-boon and he is a very hungry, childish bear. Besides only modelling half, and I know he needs paws, feet, eyes, not being done, etc. I'm looking for input about proportions, splinage for animation, rigging, etc. I will be covering him with the new version 11+ hair and rigging him for animation using the standard Hash 2001 rig. Any thoughts or do you see any problem points that may cause headache later in production? What about the overall character design? He will be a mixture of a children's bear / realistic hair with a styalized look. IF that makes sense? Some where between cartoo…

I'm workingo on changing a project that I'd started in Anim8or to Animation Master, and then making a feature film, but I need a little help. I need someone who can make a photorealistic face. Well, here goes... Below is an 11-second lipsync test I did for a personal project I'm working on, called "Ebon." The dialog in this clip is from a 2-3 minute scene I'll start work on once I build the rest of the characters and the set. This is both my first model ever as well as my first animation ever, so it's not all it could be, but that's okay--this isn't a portfolio piece, just an excuse to teach myself the Hash interface and to suggest what the final animation might look like. [Addendum 7:40am - preview image:] About this clip: The dialog comes from my own script, with voices provided by friends. The background was Photoshopped from a…

TWO is progressing well - so well in fact that we're moving into modeling for Act II, (there's still plenty of animation to be done in Act I but the modelers need to stay way ahead of the animators). Alain Desrochers, TWO Set Manager, will be looking for modelers for "Mrs. Yoop's Castle" (which Alain designed). This is the best set in the movie, with lots of gothic and macabre details, and plenty of opportunity to be creative without having to be a perfect modeler. So, all of you car modelers please raise your hand by responding to this thread. You don't have to commit to a lot - just bite off a piece here and there: plenty of statues, ornamentation, hallways, and…

And I have put together an demoreel (warning: use of cheesy transitions and music), that shows some of my projects.
