Here is a screen grab of the formula you need. The way I set it up is with 2 bones, one has the geometry (bone 2) and the other has the expression (bone 1). The expression is in an on/off pose for bone 1. Bone 2 has a roll like bone 1 constraint in a percentage pose, setting the enforcement to a spline interpolation method. The reason for the numbers that I used in the expression is that, at 1% of the throttle pose the prop will have a full rotation.

Hey guys, It's been like 6 months since I've posted anything content wise! So I took sometime this afternoon to make a quick animation. It's just for practice but it does need some finishing for sure.... But I won't be working on it anymore, as I'm one of those guys who can spend an eternity trying to perfect things.... and those are the people who usually never finish anything! Anyhows... check it out! About 800kb, sorneson http://www.vrcops.com/vids/OverTable4A.mov btw.... is anyone else really not satisfied at all with the newest version of quicktime? at least on the pc.... Well I am back once again. This years video should be a lot more detailed I am hoping but the rendering will kick my butt. But it will be worth it. So i will just keep posting screenshots of stuff i am creating. Just keeping my progress up because i wont show any of my family so i want someone to see my progress and maybe help me out with some advice! none of the lighting is final.. and some stuff wont make final cut because of memory and rendering. Okay, I've just finished a small piece I've been working on. A little info here: I've been working on editing video of my two daughters (ages 21 months & 3 years). The video clips will be put on a DVD for my wife and the two grandmothers. Before the main menu on the DVD there's an opportunity to insert an intro video, so this is what I've created. First off, I apologize to the MAC folks if they can't view Windows Media Files. I tried other formats, but was having a hard time to keep this down to a small enough file size. I do recognize that there's several flaws with this animation. The monkey (in the foreground) has a few issues with twisting o…

Well some of you at the last chat on wed may recall a pitch I did for a new short. I have a rough animatic started (takes longer than you think). This is not the complete script. There are a bunch of scenes missing at the end. Also the music is temporary. Something I had lying around. I can see how this is really going to help me get all the details worked out. I will keep this uptodate as much as possible. here is the QT of the animatic. Sorenson 3, about 2.3mb: The (incompetent) Secret Agent Vernon "Sleep? What's that?" Zehr

Hi guys. Here is a small project I am working on inbetween other projects. I used my own hand as referance as I thought that coud be quite handy (bad pun intended). I might try to rig it with 'Steve's Hand Gizmo', but since I'm very bad at rigging, I'm not sure I'll be able to do so. Anyway, let me know what you think Best regards Stian

Hey all, I've been tinkering with this model for a few days and got some good mechanical pieces done. I've hidden all the modeled machined areas and am in the process of animating the machining steps to make the real thing. So, just for fun, here is the first step. Drilling a 3/8" hole in the end of some acrylic. I have to make the material semi-transparent with some translucency to duplicate clear acrylic yet, but you get the idea. The yellow area at the tip of the bit is the particle emitter for the chips and is animating the emission rate. Also, the chips are just square sprites. This was rendered with six Netrender nodes on my design machine in a p…

As the last push on this project commences (5 months and counting), I've been going back and reworking some of the older elements to bring them in line with the most recent - I've been working on this on and off for 3 and a half years so there is a very large difference in quality between the older stuff and the newer stuff! Anyhow, I thought I'd bring something to show and tell this week so here's my main character re-worked and re-textured for 2004. I'm only using decals (no materials) to save on render time and the maps were created in a method almost identical to that documented so well by Jim Talbot. There's some more work to be done on the lips, eye, forehead and sc…

** EDIT: 4/8/04, update has been posted on page 3.** Hey there, folkses. I'm making strides in my first big Hash project. The modeling for my merman character is nearly complete -- by complete I mean "all parts are there", not "perfect". I doubt I'll ever get it to that point. Anyhow, I want to make sure the proportions and overall look strike people well. Once I fine-tune that, I'll start decimating unnecessary splines and then -- *gasp* -- texturemap it. I know the bottom of the tail ends a bit ... flat. I'll fix that. Thanks! --Ross

Dispersion is how refraction bends the different colors of white light differently causing the color fringing you see in prisms, cheap camera lenses and other irregularly shaped transparent objects. This is an attempt to simulate it by changing the Index of refraction of the glass material as the color of the light is swept across the spectrum during a multipass render. I also moved the light to fringe the shadow a bit. This is not a fast process, but if you need dispersion, it can be done.

Well, well, well, well. It has been close to an eon now since my last W.I.P. Hopefully some of you might remember me, lol. I have not spent a lot of time with A:M lately because I've been concentrating most of my efforts in story development. I have finally reached the pre-production phase of modeling my characters. This character is a semi-human, mostly human looking, character from an unknown race (unknown as far as the story goes). I would like some feedback on my face model and any pointers/improvement I could make to my technigue. So far I have the base facial mesh going. I'm still trying to tweak the patches around to try to bring out the char…

Hi, I've been planning to complete several projects in AM but I can't seem to get things rolling at a good pace. So I figured that if I post some WIPs I might be spurred along by the forum and eventually complete something. I usually have a few things going on at once so its a little difficult to concentrate on one project through to completion. I will try to change that for the new year. Hopefully I can find some success by doing this. The project I'm currently working on is fairly complex with numerous characters and a very detailed background with lots of action. It will be a still. I am doing this only for my own amusement, especially since it would probably be ea…

Hello all- Trying to something VERY simple and thought I would ask the List... Just trying to create a cylinder shape that has a transparency map applied so that the cylinder object gradually fades out. ( please see attachment) At first I thought I would create a Material as an "Environment map" and chose the "cylinder" drop down menu; but I don't think you can define the bitmap that you chose to be a transparency map when applied. Then I thought of simply stamping the transparency map from all four directions (front, back, left, right) directly on the cylinder... but I'm guessing there must be a simpler way to apply a transparency map to a cylinder. …

This may be counter intuitive to all those who model showroom pristine cars but I prefer my props to have some mileage on them, especially a taxi cab. There is a dent in each door (the passenger one is somewhat lost in the reflection of the lower hinge) and two in the rear fender. All four use the same normal decal with identical scaling and amplitude. I'm still testing to see whether I get convincing results by scaling just the decal or I have to make small, medium, large and asymmetric dent models.

Not only do Piggies have long memories, they are impatient. Johnl3d picked on the wrong porker: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?s=&am...st&p=183392 So while John's on vacation (he should be back monday), I decided to welcome him back in absentia & release my evilness into the wild. Hello everyone! Just completed enough of my very first model in A:M (actually very first anything beyond the cube in David Roger's book). Thought I would follow the Japanese schoolchild's axiom "Boys Be Ambitious!" and shoot for the stars. Or in my case, the space animation contest. This is the attacker's space ship for a space scene. I wanted an organic/technical feel that appeared dangerous and so I ended up with a rocket propelled crab of sorts. I am pretty happy with it as it stands. Needs more tweaking and color but I think you will get the drift. The white triangles at the back are where the engines go. This is the very first 3D thing beyond ball a…

Hi all, Thanks again to those that helped trouble shoot the problems I was having with the shaders the other day. Now that it's working I was able to find time tonight to tweak some settings and get it MUCH closer to the look I was going for. Some of you may remember this model from a few years ago when I first created it, I'm really excited to be getting back into working with it again. Below is a screen shot of the new and MUCH improved look. Let me know what you think! I've also included a wire frame shot as well. Now for a little more trouble shooting, it looks as though I have a strange thing happening with one of the guide hairs. You can see …

TWO is progressing well - so well in fact that we're moving into modeling for Act II, (there's still plenty of animation to be done in Act I but the modelers need to stay way ahead of the animators). Alain Desrochers, TWO Set Manager, will be looking for modelers for "Mrs. Yoop's Castle" (which Alain designed). This is the best set in the movie, with lots of gothic and macabre details, and plenty of opportunity to be creative without having to be a perfect modeler. So, all of you car modelers please raise your hand by responding to this thread. You don't have to commit to a lot - just bite off a piece here and there: plenty of statues, ornamentation, hallways, and…

I've been working on this in bits of spare time I manage to carve out now and then - 10 minutes here and there, basically. It's Robbie Sinclair from the TV show "Dinosaurs" (I couldn't come up with any original ideas that were interesting enough). I plan on modeling the whole thing, texturing, rigging, and eventually animating as well. This is the first character model I've really committed to in A:M, since I don't really consider myself a modeler, but I want to get better. I know I have to work on the CP layout, parallel rows are getting pretty dense in some areas. I've had some problems with hooks (they never seem to want to work, is there a trick to making …

At this point I have the room and some of the lights, once I feel I have these basic elements right, I will start adding the glasses and the smoke, and the creepy people. Interesting point the door in the back has no texture or color yet and neither does the ceiling. I am not sure I need to add texture to the cieling. Also does anyone hav any tips on shooting in confined spaces? should I pull off a wall or go with wide angles?

This post is more of a query than a showing of new work, but I'm going to be presumptuous and post this in the WIP rather than the New Users forum. This is a model of an inline speed skate. This is my second model, the first with curved surfaces, so I have a number of questions. I'm sure all of these questions have been asked and answered before, but I'm still looking for those answers. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd certainly appreciate it. 1. What is the best way to remove the creases in the model's surface? 2. Ideally, I'd like to radius the edges of the frame (the metal structure below the boot), but the short splines connecting the…

I made a test with image based lighting to see if it helps in integrating Hash models with background photographs. I am happy with the color mixing, but I think the shadows could be better. I added some color distortion in the middle of the image to give it the reflection artifact you tend to see on sun lit pictures. I tried the z-buffer shadow option, but the results were kind of weird. For example, it did not show a projected shadow from the barrel in the scene. I would appreciate it if someone could take a minute to look it over and let me know if you think it looks realistic or needs further work.

This thread moved from http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=19810 Here is the first version. I started out modeling what was meant to be an older aristocratic gentlemen but my attempts to make him look older resulted in more of an Asian look, or perhaps french.
