According to this post: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showt...amp;#entry48718 it is possible to get a white render with shadows using a sun type light. So far I have not been able to reproduce this. I get shadows with a klieg light, but not a sun. Yves states that any type of light can be used for this as long as the attenuation is set to 0? Where is the setting for a sun type light's attenuation?

Hashers, Here is my latest non mechanical model. used 3D painter for the decals for hair color, still trying to get a handle of this organic? modeling. Still have more hair grooming to do a touch up or two on the decals, and to texture the antlers. more work on the geometry proportions. More pics to come as model progresses. (Note: I used the unicorn model from the Extras DVD as a starting point, so much thanks to Eric Lindstrom, hope I got that right)

I've updated my site with my last three misfires from digitalrendering.com's Animation Showdown, the four-hour animation race: Who's at the Door? I never quite got the rhythm of this one right. Doing more leading with the hips might have made it less floaty. Hug. The moderator warned that doing this with two characters would be too hard. Turns out he was right! Crawl. Why he didn't just step over that thing? These versions are re-rendered for better lighting. See them on my Showdown page.

Here's a spring I made and it's the first of a motorbike I'll be making. Sweeper will be used extensively. Emilio: Making the spring was automatic and I didn't see any "Dialogue Box". I couldn't find anything about it in the readme....How do I activate those options. Thanks again.

Hello fellow animators, For my short film, I'm trying to create a certain lighting effect using a directional light. I'm working with Ambient Occlusion. I tried adding a light, but it always appears as a spherical light source casting light in all directions. Instead I added the rim light that is default in any chor's PWS to my choreography, and that light is indeed directional. So cool, I thought I had it all figured out. The thing I don't understand is, the light is shining through walls. I'm trying to have the light partly obscured by a wall, but even if I aim it in the center of a wall, the light is just as strong on the other side of the wall! Is there some se…

I was thinking about how I'm starting to get into building structures and said "well, Willy Wonka's factory has many interesting shapes and structures.." Not only that, but it'd be really fun to make the candy machines and even just the building itself! I started by planning to sketch out some concepts of what's going to be in the building. I've scanned my first one and posted. I'm excited just thinking about this..

WINDBLOWN: This is an old animation (to me)...done in V11.0 about 1 year ago. The vortex can be seen in her hair... I think I was going to try a more subtle effect but got sidetracked and never did it. This shows hair being affected by a fan tho--- as I said in the other Forum, use 'vortex' on the fan setting...I think I remember the others don't work...maybe by now they do... windblown2.mov

Hello y'all! Been inspired recently to pickup an old project of mine. So imagine a summer day, a breeze whispering to the trees and creating paths through the grass on the hills, gently spinning the windmill that time and nature have left behind. Thats my scene in a sentence. Ive gotten started on the modeling of the windmill. I plan to "try" and create my own procedural rusty metal shaders but may resort to decals or a darktree shader. I will also use hair for the golden grass and leaves on the oaktrees. I may model a barn or some other point of interest too. More coming Photoman

I made this, well... because I can. Win7_Anim_Logo_TL_01.prj Not completely happy with it as I could not get the specularity on the lens to show properly, but my skills at lighting are not that great. *sigh* It's intended for widescreen 16:9 (1.35 Aspect setting in A:M's Camera) monitors as Windows 7 does NOT correct aspect ratio upon rendering the animation. The second image is an uncorrected 1:1 (1.0 Aspect setting in A:M's Camera)version here as well as the embedded project file (v14.0 only, sorry haven't upgraded yet) link. EDIT: Here are the videos, as promised. 16:9 and 1:1 respectively. test000_16.9.movtest000_1.1.mov My farm is current…

I was part of a trombone forum collaboration this year, the sort where everyone records their part individually and then it all gets edited together. Since we were playing a jazz arrangement of a Tchaikovsky piece I thought it would be cute to have him drop in at the very end and wink to the camera. It would work like this... (the bit of music in this demo is not our group, it's is previous recording of the piece) Alas, it didn't get used. But, of course it was done in A:M. I edited four versions of the painting... for the brow, the upper eyelid, the lower eyelid and the eyeball behind them. I added splines to outline the moving pa…

I finished this character up last night. He's not rigged yet but for those interested he's using the new hair particle system. There are no decals here, only material combinations. He weighs in at around 1200 patches. He rendered in about 2 and a half minutes, resolution 640x400, multi-pass x 16. Okay Martin...there you go...like I promised. Comments are welcomed and encouraged. I appreciate any feed-back I can get. (Especially around the shoulder area.)

Hello everyone! Just completed enough of my very first model in A:M (actually very first anything beyond the cube in David Roger's book). Thought I would follow the Japanese schoolchild's axiom "Boys Be Ambitious!" and shoot for the stars. Or in my case, the space animation contest. This is the attacker's space ship for a space scene. I wanted an organic/technical feel that appeared dangerous and so I ended up with a rocket propelled crab of sorts. I am pretty happy with it as it stands. Needs more tweaking and color but I think you will get the drift. The white triangles at the back are where the engines go. This is the very first 3D thing beyond ball a…

The ALT snap bias aim feature is such a pleasure to use, I've regained my enthusiasm for an architectural model I set aside in 2009. It's my version of a Hollywood set of the grand old Pennsylvania Station built in New York in 1910 and demolished in 1963. I'm calling it a Hollywood version for three reasons. 1. Since my reference images from books and the Net only have a few readable dimensions I have to make a lot of "looks good to me" guesses. 2. The amount of detailing required for a 100% accurate copy is too staggering so I've simplified it while trying maintain a similar look. 3. The section of the building where people board a train is called the Con…

Hi, this is my first post here and I thought it would be a good idea to kick things off with my idea for a project. Anyone who is familiar with the Silent Hill game series would probably get a kick out of this. A while back, I played a Silent Hill RPG with a few friends. Horror generally doesn't translate to a TTRPG very well, but our GM did a spectacular job scaring the crap out of us on a regular basis. And now that the game is over (at least for the time being), I had an idea to put together a series of short animated films based on our adventures. So far I have very little work done, other than a VERY low-quality model with simple materials and boning done, but t…

I've put a bit of time into this and I'm fairly satisfied with the modeling but I'd like some suggestions on how to make the dino look more realistic. I guess I need to do some kind of bump map to make the hide of the beast look more real. I'd appreciate community imput on this. The models of the plants and the dino are all my original work, the plants with the help of a little program called "PlantStudio" available at http://www.kurtz-fernhout.com/order.htm It's a very nice program with lots of technical options. Thank you, Jonathan

Well it has not even been a week since I got my software . After some fuss and a needed update, i started to jump into modeling. I have learned a lot and I have almost memorized the keyboard shorcuts and it really has made my workflow really fly. I feel proud of myself, and now I would show off a work that just sparked an idea in my head. Voila! A light*cough*saber*cough*..blade..excuse me, had something in my throat. [attachmentid=15843]

Here's a project I've been working on in my spare time for the last week or so. My wife and I both love reading so I decided to make an ideal comfortable, rich environment to do just that in. I'm still working on drawing out the surroundings here there's still a lot of tweaking to be done on the textures and what not for this model, but thought I'd start a thread anyway. Feel free to blast away. Comments are always helpful.

Dominique now has clothes. All that's left is to give her some guns! The overcoat does not have very many details yet. It's a question of splines vs bumpmap and graphic. The model is 75% boned, and thanks to the all your help, the overcoat will be boned very soon with Dynamic Constraints. My experiments with the test model were mostly successful. I should have a small clip up by next week. Hopefully she'll be able to shoot the guns in a dramatic fashion. Gaetan

Here's a little peek at a creature I'm working on. http://home.alltel.net/collinsfamily04/testjump2.avi I'm decent at modeling and okay at animating, but I'm horrible at texturing. Would anyone care to trade some modeling or animating for texturing and mapping? Also, I made this in 8.5 although I'm finally breaking out 11 now. I can't seem to be able to pick the path this guy follows in the choreography window in 11.1 on a windows machine. Any suggestions? Cory

Hi All, I'm currently working on this female head. After working with polygon modeling in 3DS MAX, it's a little difficult getting back to the spline modeling. I see that I'm getting unwanted creasing and indents on the face, especially around the cheek and near the eye. I've tried to fix the CP's as best I can. I didn't want to use too many CP's making the model more complex than it needs to be. Any suggestions.

I just purchased 1 seat of the Hash 2008 Web Subscription. I'm liking it so far, but I've always been a fan of A:M. Speaking of Fans.... here is something I've been working on over the last couple of days. The real tricky part was actually figuring out how to make a hole in the wall for the fan assembly. There are several ways to do this but I would like to give the Hash Forum community a couple chances to guess what technique I used before exposing my final solution.

Hi All, I tried the technique to build a tree as used by Brian Taylor who is working on Rustboy (www.rustboy.com). I think the results were quite good and this is a much faster technique when compared to using hair (or at leas that is my experience). Here is a quick summary of what I did. 1. Create a patch and past a Cookie Cut decal of leaves. 2. Animate the patch (by tweaking splines and cp's) to give a wrustling movement to the leaves. 3. Render as a QT with an alpha channel (do not use any compression for the QT, just use Animation). 4. Make a model of a tree trunk 5. Make a patch and add a decal of the animated QT as a Cookie Cutter. 6. …
