Hi All, Attached is a project I started to see how far I could push Dynamics in AM. There are still some issues with it as can be seen in the attached vid. You really have to play with the settings and in some cases I found if I select Constraint (under Target) and try to change it to None, it does not always change....like it becomes stuck?? Also, when selecting "Attach to Parent" on or off in bones mode and after Dynamics is turned on...AM crashes Finally, odd things are being simulated, like Objects tend to gain energy after repeated collisions with another object. So far, it appears to work best for really simple stuff. Cheers, Euge…

I never did that much modeling characters. I want to start a little bigger(little big? excuse my french) project, so maybe better and safer to own my characters. I have tried to stay with a fairly low mesh density so far, hope it works for animating. Do most people still apply decals on the face using flatten? I used it a few years ago, worked well, but this time I can't find the way to apply the decal in the action window where I flatten the face. I will rig them soon with 2008 rig to test the models. Ok. testing, testing 1 2 3 4 with this month's 11 second dialog problems I see: 1) rigging, modeling issues with arms, hands 2) lip sync for "yesterday I ate" starting around frame 155 3) hands penetrate around frame 95-96 4) ??? (not done with costuming, texturing) Comments welcome (and nooooo...ya won't have to go vote for me...unless you absolutely, positively want to wade thru 6 billion entries all with the same dialog) coccoonshiny8mpeg4medPCMhintedstream.mov

What do you think so far? Now, I've tried engraving with displacement maps, bump maps and even modeling the text/engraving but never got great results. Does anyone know of a good tutorial or have any suggestions?

I can't get projection maps to apply as anything but spherical. I don't know what's up, probably me being an idiot somehow. I was wanting either a difuse map, or a color map (or both) but I can't get them to actually show up on my model unless I have the interpolation set to spherical. Otherwise, it doesn't show up at all. Any ideas as to what might be going wrong?

Someone here (I think in the WIP forum) mentioned a site that he got textures for whatever the model was he was showing. I looked at it just the other day. Does anyone know what post that was, or what the site was? Thanx

Hey everybody, I know I have another topic that's still out so don't get too mad Well, I'm trying to wrap up everything that I've been involved in (hence the Star Wars models frenzy) and one of the many things on the list was texturing this fantastic model. Hang on Martin, 2_08 lighting is next For me, the goal of this project was to have a set of textures that matched the great quality of the model. This meant grabbing tons of photos and layering and layering in PS. It also meant tons of unwrapping in AM--of which a little has been done. I'm going to try to push my skills as far as they go for this one and prove to the world that AM is capable of anything...a…

As the last push on this project commences (5 months and counting), I've been going back and reworking some of the older elements to bring them in line with the most recent - I've been working on this on and off for 3 and a half years so there is a very large difference in quality between the older stuff and the newer stuff! Anyhow, I thought I'd bring something to show and tell this week so here's my main character re-worked and re-textured for 2004. I'm only using decals (no materials) to save on render time and the maps were created in a method almost identical to that documented so well by Jim Talbot. There's some more work to be done on the lips, eye, forehead and sc…

Just wondering what basic settings other users on this forum like to use when texturing gums and teeth. My goal is to have this character's mouth appear natural without being too overly realistic.

I rendered out a 10 second clip to TGA in HDTV-1080 format. This is for the Challenger flyby, so much of the scene is on a black background. The render went fine, but when I try to import the sequence back into AM I get into trouble. There are 300 TGAs. If I select them all at once to import, AM give me a message saying "too many files selected at once." If I select 50 at a time, I can get around 200 loaded and then I start getting blank TGAs imported or #011 errors, and sometimes the fatal #001 shutdown. I have a 2.66 GHz CPU with 1.5 GB of ram. Is this an AM issue or a memory related issue? Anyone else ever try an import of TGAs of that length in 1080 form…

So i will just keep posting screenshots of stuff i am creating. so I remembered I had one of those classic charlie ventriliquist doll thingies in my basement and I decided to try to model it...I'm very proud in the fact I'm still motivated to keep going..usually by now I'd be disappointed in myself cause of ugly creasing, but the only way to get better is to finish a model completely then try to do another one..completely..anyways... Note: in the render w/ out wires, there is ugly and annoying creasing/bumps in the nose and all around pretty much...anybody know why? I have a feeling it's an amateur thing because I notice a lot of other beginners like me have the same ugly, yet tolerable "mesh texture"...anyways..without furthe…

Well some of you at the last chat on wed may recall a pitch I did for a new short. I have a rough animatic started (takes longer than you think). This is not the complete script. There are a bunch of scenes missing at the end. Also the music is temporary. Something I had lying around. I can see how this is really going to help me get all the details worked out. I will keep this uptodate as much as possible. here is the QT of the animatic. Sorenson 3, about 2.3mb: The (incompetent) Secret Agent Vernon "Sleep? What's that?" Zehr

I have kept up-to-date with my blog and modeling 30 household objects (6 so far) but now I have added animations as well with the aim of 30 animations. After 3 animations I am really pleased with the progress, of course it is not wonderful or awe inspiring but I am moving in the right direction and moreover my 3rd animation gave me a sense of achievement as I was able to do everything I wanted in A:M because I had spent the time gaining the knowledge on how to do it. anyhow if you follow the link at the bottom and select the animation page you can see the progress. As usual the blog etc. is up-to-date.

Hi, I'd really appreciate it if some of you could critique my Woozle piece, The Blackboard. It's the first animation of any substance that I've completed, and I'd like to take the many many lessons learned and opinions forward to the next project (as yet undecided). The current hash link is http://www.hash.com/users/minimovie/blackboard.html There is also a smaller window media player version available on my home page http://home.swiftdsl.com.au/~oztiff/ Thanks!

Hey, this is a short animation I put together this afternoon. I was having some problems with making the boomerang spin properly (see the New User forum for more info), but I am relatively pleased with this animation. A few areas need stronger poses, longer pauses, better anticipation, and the regular like of course... and I'm hoping you all can help me out with spoting them. Suggestions greatly appreciated! Well it's actually been a long time since I actually really used AM for anything (probably before Christmas actually). The projects I have been working on required other tools. So I wanted to crack open AM and see if I still had it in me! So what I'm working on is modelling Batman! I'm trying to go for a style similar to that of the graphic novels. The unfortunate thing is that I lack rotos. I couldn't find anything satisfactory online and when I tried to draw my own, well, let's just say that didn't go very well. So I'm just going at it! So far I'm not sure whether or not I'm happy with what I have. There's quite a few problems, such as but not limited to th…

I'm opening a thread for critique and ABUSE of my mini-movie entry, The Cell-Phone: http://www.hash.com/users/minimovie/cellphone.html Let's be clear here: If you can't say something nice... GOOD. Be brutal, nitpicky, even unconstructive. My only response will be "Thank you, sir, may I have another?" I want to make this thing better, and the only way to do that is to get criticism. So if something bothers you about the film, don't swallow it and worry about hurting my pride. Pretend I'm that third grade teacher you had, who told all your peers "[your name here] just wet his/her pants again, class!" And TAKE YOUR REVENGE. Sharpened blades at the re…

A photographer friend from Astoria, Oregon posted this pic on Facebook a while back and titled it "The Clam Before The Storm". I felt the urge to do a short animation with an idea that immediately popped into my head and scared away the voices for a while. It is my intention to once again prove that even though the animation is crude and amateurish, the clip can still be funny. To Be Continued. . . . .

Hi Hashers I have to post this cos it is basically driving me nuts, so I thought one of you lovely lot could help me try and figure it out. I have attached an image which is a comp of two separate leaf textures I am working on. Both where created in exactly the same way and applied in the same way. Yet the one on the left has the obvious halos around it's edges the one on the right doesn't. Why am I getting this? I have tried using alpha channels incorporating anti-aliased edges and non-antialiased edges - both produce the same results. I have used defringe in Photoshop to ensure there are no white pixels on the borders of both set of leaves yet these orrible 'a…

Ever since I made my image "The Satyr and the Apple" I had planned on making a full image on the subject. It will include a few characters in a outdoor forest grove that resembles a noble's court. Here is the link to the original "The Satyr and the Apple" pic: http://www.hash.com/stills/displayimage.ph...&fullsize=1 In the new image, I have redesigned the satyr's legs to something I like a little better. Right now all I have is decals on the cloth and eyes. SSS is on the skin. I will be adding decals later and hair will be added toward the end of the project. I will most likely be changing and/or adding clothing to the Satyr as I go along. Reflectivit…
