I've wanted to model a truck for a long time (no, the Lego racer does not count). I've just started on the peterbilt model. I hope to be able to make the wrecker version out of it, but due to little referance and no blueprints of that particular model (1996) I'm not sure. Anyway, I dont have much to show yet: LATEST UPDATE (21.05.07)

A friend was drawing a picture involving Phantom, and it got me thinking... this was mostly a study in modeling and lighting. I was thinking of posting it on A:M stills. One item of concern, however: I didn't make the rose. I think it was on the forum. I seem to remember someone saying it was up for grabs. However, I wouldn't want to use someone's model uncredited. if you know whose rose it is, please tell me, because it's a really nice model. It's one that looks weird unless you apply the supplied pose to it. Thanks! -Zev

Here are some experiments with different skin shading These are all from my Ground Hog Day scene. They are all rendered with a slightly blue AO light and an orange-ish Sun light. This is a simple pink color for the Skin group... Same as above but with white Specular color. Width 500%, Intensity 60%... Same as before but with Specular Intensity down to 40% This next one uses the Pharr Skin diffuse plugin shader (Just "Skin" in A:M). The Pharr Skin Shader tries to reproduce some of the nuance of Sub Surface Scattering without the huge rendering time. Short version: instead of merely darkening a color as the i…

Soft introduction...my name is Busby .... I am new to 3D and (of course) Animation:Master. I work with Colin Freeman and hence picked up the A:M bug from him. I have been working with this software for almost 2 months. My wife has since put a divorce lawyer on speed dial, but I am confident that I can win a balance between the family thing and the A:M coolness. I will make a more formal introduction elsewhere on this forum later..but.... I wanted to ask a question... This is Phifer............ [attachmentid=14466] I basically designed her to give me the most challenges to overcome and learn as much as I can with one character. I have run into…

Here is a minute and a half short I made a few years back. I recently re-rendered it at a better resolution and added some original music that i put together in GPO. The animation is pretty simple, but that's what I was going for! Phil's Gun Animation - Quicktime - Mp4 codec

Even though my previous thread for this model is gone, the model itself still progresses. I've added all the male actors and tweaked the light levels. The only thing that's left is charcoal suited guy's red-headed companion. For the sake of finishing and moving on, I may just have her off-camera while leaving behind some props to imply she'll soon return.

I've recently been doing a lot of cutout animation, and that has lead me to a program called CrazyTalk which uses a 3d mesh to deform an image of a head. But then I thought how easy it would be to use the same method in AM. It's a very simple mesh mapped with a photo of my head, with separate eyes inserted and the next step being to add teeth as well. By using a face mesh with pre-built emotion poses it should make creating character heads very simple. Because the lighting is built into the photos I've rendered with 100 ambient light and used the environment shader to add the specular highlights to the eyes. Next step is to add simple bodies to complement the heads. …

Hello friends I felt like doing some experimenting the other day. I had a photo of New York taken from the Empire State building The photo is taken by a friend and colleague of me, Johanna Vaart So, I wanted to see if I was able to convert the photo to an anaglyph using A:M. First I used PFHoe, to "track" the photo, by doing so I got the camera position and angle, then I started to create simple proxymodels and placed them accordingly with the photo. When done I made a depthmap using fog. In PhotoShop I used the depthmap as a displacementmap to skew the red channel to the left and green and blue channel to the right. I also made a "tilt-shift miniature" vers…

My entry in yesterday's four-hour Animation Showdown. Our character had to do some sort of exercise. Which is kind of awkward for animation since most exercises tend to be very symmetrical with lots of "twins." i considered doing a guy hitting a punching bag but decided against it because I thought doing the fast moving bag would be time consuming to get right. So here's plan B, twins and all! See it on my Showdown page. (Note to Rodney: It's got a camera move this time! ) BTW, there's lots of room for A:M animators at Digitalrendering.com's Animation Showdown. Why spend three months on a contest entry when you can do one in four hours?

Hey everyone, I need to simulate(If possible).....a weighted but Bouyant object in a tube filled with water. It needs to be able to be flipped kinda like a "Sand Timer" and have the bouyant object rise to surface according to real world physics. Is it possible to use Newton Physics in A:M to simulate Bouyancy like this? Thanks so much, William

Creating a moving image on a flipping book page. I know its possible to add a series of animated images files as a decal, which then becomes part of an animated sequence- but how do you start and end the moving picture sequence in the right place in the cho - short of bumping the decal up with static shots. So say the moving sequence is 3 secs long, but the whole sequence is 10 secs and you dont want it to start until 4 secs in. How would you all handle it? Chris

Hey all! I'm new to modeling in Animation Master. I have tons of experience poly modeling in Max, but dealing with splines and patches is a bit new to me. Anyway, I'm currently in the process of modeling a pig for a project, but I'm having lots of creasing issues. I've gotten the hang of getting rid of most of them, but I'm not sure how to approach creases in a 5-point patch. Can anyone provide any guidance? Should I even be using 5-point patches where I'm using them? Any help would be greatly appreciated! [attachmentid=15891]

After a lot of projects for other creators, I really wanted to focus on something of my own. It's a story entitled: hunted Check out my site: HUNTED | CONCEPTS web page Now, there isn't much there yet (Only two links have anything in them) and there isn't much 3D in there yet, and any 3D right now (real simple blocks) is Cinema 4D. Don't fret, the final image will be created in A:M, and I could've done these simple 3D scenes in A:M. I actually just used C4D because I was helping another artist who was using C4D at the time. Can't wait to get into A:M and get started on the first final concept art piece, "The Gestation Chamber". …

I think this is sufficiently different to warrant a new thread: [1] I'm installing a single bone that will move the same [left and right] plate on both treads. On a previous attempt, I installed the bone in the right hand tread plate, on the Z-axis. Some of the plates developed a twitch wherein the bone rotated 180 deg. and the left plate flopped over to the far right of the right plate. I suspect it was because of the oblique angle the bone occupied at the points where the plates moved over the major drive wheels at the front and back. [tho' I'm not certain] This time, I'm installing the bone along the X-axis. The question is: at the points where the plate move…

I have modeled a tower and would like to "place" it in my back yard. Howver, I am still VERY new and as so my tower placement doesn't look as real as I'd like. Does anyone have any ideas about what I can do to make it look more realistic? I know I have to add a shadow and light and stuff. However, I havn't done any lighting tuts yet, and for the shadowing, I think I have to model a floor, which I'm not sure about either. Any help, (or just post a link to a tut that can help) would be great.. Thanks

Hi all - I've modeled the attached. Nothing too exciting, but it's proving challenging to my rudimentary skills. Thanks to Vern for his help and suggestions so far. Looking for more opinions in the area of texturing. The front view is textured with a simple gaussian blur. The back view is just A:M color right now. Does it look at all like paper (and how would I improve this texture)? Thanks for any input. ..doug

Hi all, I completly redid the Focke Wulf, I had found someplace and that I have used for my "propeller spin thread" . I also gave it a less martial more "Howard Hughian" look. Also added some poses for easy handling. You can roll , turn, tilt and steer the rudder, also retract the wheels and open the canopy. (see movie) Please feel free to take and use this model at your will. Maybe show us some testflights? Next I plan to implement John`s propeller speed technic as soon as I get a grasp of it. (Thats the propeller speed pose has to be filled up for, still nofunction) speed1.prj FockeWulfTest.mov

I've just created a new gallery of astronomical art on A:M Stills with renderings of all EIGHT planets. (I've been working on these for the last few years, before the whole Pluto debate got started. I didn't include Pluto because any textures would be fictional until New Horizons arrives there in nine years' time.) Since I'm not trying to make a scale model of the Solar System, each planet and its system of satellites is a separate choreography modeled at a scale of 1/1 million (1 meter = 1000 kilometers). Here are some samples: I'm putting these renders up now because I've recently figured out some methods for using the Planet Glow shader effectively…

So I saw this cool Lightwave tut for making 3D clouds for a planet's atmosphere, you know, those really gorgeous shots of planets that you can tell have 3d clouds and not just some flat texture map. Well anyways, I decided to take a stab at making it AMified. So far it's turning out well, though I've run into a bit of a bump with it. The bump being that I kind of want the texture to 'taper' at the top, to simulate the 3d effect of clouds better. Now in lightwave, they used something called a weight material. Obviously AM doesn't have that, so I thought I could simulate it by doing some form of transparent gradient. Basically make the top more transparent than the bo…
