I've been rather ill lately, and have not had the concentration to work on the real project at hand (our Mountain film) so I built a 3-D model of my roomate's head. It's kinda creepy without ears and hair and the neck is incomplete, but it was a fun challenge to build a realistic head for a change. (We may use it in an animated version of him to introduce his architecture portfolio in the future, but no immediate plans.)

i decided to put a little more "will power" into my models, so i'm somewhat starting over. let's start with the head. i got the crest and head done, now i need to get onto the neck.... i think i'll save that for tomorrow. anyways, here are the pictures. let me know of anything that isn't right. yes, a little too shinney, i'll try to fix that tomorrow.

I am wanting to make a whole Medieval/Renaissance motif of stuff. Here's a cart I put together in about an hour last night. It's not complete, no textures or maps. And I need to add handles to the front. But I just wanted people's suggestions for details to add.

I'm trying some new techniques with this. My eventual goal is just to finish modeling, rigging, and texturing him. I just want to complete a character, for once. I didn't do any rotoscopes, I'm modeling everything on the fly. I started off with a rough proxy so that I had the proportions I want nailed down before I started: With the head, I did things a little different too. I made the eye and the mouth by lathing splines, and re-shaping them. The nose I started by lathing a nostril, duplicating it, attaching the two, and then modeling the bulb and bridge. I did the eye first, then the nose, and attached them, then the mouth. I'm sorry I didn't take …

Back at the last mascot contest I started to work on a couple of characters that I intended to turn into a very short short. I did a number of animated tests before deciding to scrap one of the characters and start again. As I was sorting through some folders today I came across some of these old tests and I realised that this stuff might never see the light of day again so I decided to post a sample here incase anyone is interested. and some pre-race warmup:

EDIT: I just updated this video as it came out of post-production, ready for broadcast, whereas before it was simply animation... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yhv88Vakq6Y FINAL EDITED SPOT http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNtW9yMyTvY The original TV spot, from summer 2007. Hi--- I just updated an old :30 spot for a winter furniture sale and at the last minute decided to employ A:M's particle generator for a snow falling effect. I'm quite happy with the resulting animation, and with A:M's powerful toolkit! I originally used a filter in After Effects (Cycore's CC Snow...which simulates snow falling in depth .) It was good, but was obviously 'pa…

O.K. Heres something to give an Idea of the possibilities for modifying existing work from OBJ files. These are 2 geometries from the Poser 6 program. These models can be purchased at numerous places on the internet. Mainly DAZ3d. Its important to know that the "descriptions" of the models on any site must INCLUDE "GEOMETRIES", which are in OBJ format. Otherwise you will just get a Poser specific format. But this goes to show that re-inventing the wheel isnt necessary? I dont know if its considered "cheating" or not? It all depends on how extreme the modify is. Considering this fact though: these models when imported reach around 26,000 splines/vertices. Ive managed to wi…

Hey guys was needing some C&C on this first segment of the new proj I'm working on. Just want to focus on the bum action for now. walk_in_the_park.mov Here what I'm seeing: The walk looks a bit mechanical; I was thinking about maybe adding in Squash and stretch but was afraid it would take away from the "stamper scuffle" I was going for. and the "plop" down to sitting overshoot seems kind off too. thanks ahead of time guys

I've never worked on a model that i've hated until now. I never want to make another of these or anything similar to this any time soon. I don't mind tedious work, its the needless redundancy that got me. For some reason, the normals wouldn't stand still, they kept flipping on me in random directions. Every time I reopened the file. . . flip! Rotated the object. . . flip! flip one set of normals, another set flipped. GRRRRR!!!! maybe its just my machine, or the version of AM I'm Running or my use of 5 point patches. . . I don't know. anyway, i've attached the project file incase anyone else would ever need a storm drain cover. My pain is your gain. . . irongratepr…

Here's the completed logo I started a few months ago. It uses a slightly modified directors chair that was donated and a modified version of Woot from the TWO movie. Thank you Martin for permission to use it. I changed the shape of Woot's head and completely changed the color of the textures so he didn't appear greenish. I know this is the WIP thread but I couldn't find the thread for finished projects. Oh and Robert, I hope the finished shot clears up the drowsy look of the monkey hehe. Here it is. FMP_LOGO.mov

Hi All, I'm currently working on this female head. After working with polygon modeling in 3DS MAX, it's a little difficult getting back to the spline modeling. I see that I'm getting unwanted creasing and indents on the face, especially around the cheek and near the eye. I've tried to fix the CP's as best I can. I didn't want to use too many CP's making the model more complex than it needs to be. Any suggestions.

Please have a look at this carscene. I have some questions: I have a sunlight directed from the left and a klieglight from the right enligthening the sign and cast shadows on, but the shadows are not like I would expect them. Under the car it looks as if only the axles and tyres cast shadow but not the body of the car, also there is no shadow under the bridge and the sign is casting no shadow as well ( I would expect like see my painting.) Second, is there a way to avoid decals showing from the backside. Any help? Thank you Jake

Merry Christmas, everyone! I took a shot at creating an animated Christmas card. Wish it'd occurred to me to do it sooner, but somehow I was able to finish it in time. I did have to cheat a bunch (which included using no multi-pass or shadows in rendering and a lot of tomfoolering in Flash and Photoshop.) Anyways, I thought I'd share it with you guys, too! Hey guys, following my tests with displacment for folds in clothing, I discovered that no matter how I altered my settings I can not avoid getting these little black dots where the displament map is on the model. I am thinking that the dots are pixels that are brighter then the surrounding pixels in the gradient of the blur that I used on the map and the toon renderer is pickign it up as an edge. is that possible? or is it a compression thing? I've tried both png(profile stripped after ps save) and tga files. any help or suggestions would be appreciated here is an image sowing the problem.

I was trying to show as speed increased there was faster tire rotation so I made the rotation in an action and gave it stride length then constrained the tire to a path. the first second I set the ease at 15% so the tire would rotate slow as it moved then at the end of the 3rd second I had ease 100% so it would race to the end.I added some streaks to help show the movement as well as a marking on the tire. Now I ask does this look right? rate.mov rate.zip I was doing this because of a question I received about expressions and I thought this would be easier Its a little rough but I am half asleep Johnl3d tink

Hey Hashers! I did not know what to get you all for Xmas and you were ALL on my list...so I made a neat little model! This is a graphic firework (see movie for example) that is safe so you won't blow your fingers off. The effect makes use of Hash's boolean feature to reveal and unreveal the burst. You can make your own bursts to change things up... There are 2 poses with the model- 1 reveals the burst and the other UNreveals it... HAVE FUN! Have a VERY Spliney Holidays! After several weeks of work, I (with some helpful input from Dushan, my roomie) have finally completed and entered my commercial entry for the Heinz "Top This" challenge. It is done, and I am very satisfied. The music/sound-effects are a combo of stuff supplied by Heinz for the contest, as well as public domain bits, and my own home-grown effects. *whew* You all can view the entry on youtube at... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pj2OMLr0xQ It took remarkably less time than I had intended, as I had blocked out ~2 months for pre-production etc. Wish me luck! I have seen the other entries and I think this really has a shot at the grand prize. (Hopefully …

This is Shirley, She is getting close to completion, she will be eventually turned into a fairy and will be part of a short film I'm making as part of my masters degree in computer animation. I have two other characters to model for it also, but they will come after Christmas. just a quick Modeling Time-lapse to show her developing. There are some spline issues and smoothing that needs to be done, but some of the bad splinesmanship is because shes actually due to go into another app. Time_Lapse.mov
