The lastest in my fascination with tracked vehicles. This, a generalized Soviet T-series tank. I've been keeping a Photoshop record of each step and expect to put together a tutorial when the treads are done and moving.

Hey everyone, I went out and got a new PSP game called Patapon. It's another fun, stylized game from Japan Studio. Playing it and looking at the 2D stylization got me thinking. "I wonder if I could make a 2D animation in A:M. Of course it's simple in Toon Render but I mean actually 2D. So I made a model of a Patapon off the top of my head. Everything is going smoothly so far but if anyone has any suggestion or ideas feel free. I attached some pictures of the project. ( I'm also working on TAO of A:M on the side lines; only four more lessons left. Thanks for your…

I am doing a personal project, nothing important but something I want to do. one of the main characters is a Bear. I been up since lastnight making the bear and I am actually quite pleased so far. I know how to rig a person but I am kinda lost on where to start with this dagnabit bear! I really want to do it right the first time so if anyone would please give me your ideas on rigging him I would be very grateful. I am not asking a full tutorial LOL. Just some ideas and maybe a basic layout I can begin with. I just dont want to rig him all up and then have to redo the whole dagnabit bear. any other creative ideas are welcome too. I respect all the talent in …

Started working on the Pod Bay interior for the Discover model. To make this model it's own complete set, I am going to include the Pod Bay doors and front wall sections (interior and exterior). The slider to control the doors will be part of this model now, and not the Discovery. So far, I have the rear and left walls modelled (with temporary textures on them). The floor and ceiling are blocked out as well. It's been tricky trying to get everything to scale without having any blue prints to work from, just screen grabs from the movie. The front section with the pod bay door openings, is just a temporary piece so I can get the other parts modelled and scaled in place…

Ok. testing, testing 1 2 3 4 with this month's 11 second dialog problems I see: 1) rigging, modeling issues with arms, hands 2) lip sync for "yesterday I ate" starting around frame 155 3) hands penetrate around frame 95-96 4) ??? (not done with costuming, texturing) Comments welcome (and nooooo...ya won't have to go vote for me...unless you absolutely, positively want to wade thru 6 billion entries all with the same dialog) coccoonshiny8mpeg4medPCMhintedstream.mov

I've read several post in which people were noticing that the emitters were not totally transparent when a scene was rendered. Well Nancy shared a little trick with me in one of my posts that I thought was good enough to share with everyone. Many of you may know this already, but some may not. If you want to make an emitter disappear, here's the trick: Make a small TGA image with a transparent background and an alpha channel for the whole image. When rendered in AM you should see nothing. Now take that TGA and apply it as an image to the emitter mesh you want to hide. Here is the kicker: in the image properties under the mesh shortcut, change the property from col…

Hello! Once again it has been a while since I have posted a new project. This one is more of a sketch. The idea came when I was daydreaming in class . Here is where I am at: I am using a z-buffed kleig as the sun light, AO for the indirect lighting, and a few fill lights here and there. Notice the wavyness in the shadows, thats from low z-buffer map resolution. I marked up what I plan to do now: Photoman

Hi, I'm a 'rusty' old 'old timer' but I'm back and trying to animate and get some video of a bunch of models (space ships for the most part) created for my last AM project (a book trailer for my sci-fi book). To give credit where due, some models were created by AM users from all around the world. I'm using V14 NetRender (I plan to upgrade shortly), however, so far, I've only tried rendering right out of AM. I'm encountering a problem I've not seen before and it's happening on all three of the scenes I've tried to render (so that means 3 different sets of prj files, model files, etc). Things are 'shimmering' on finals renders (this best description I can come u…

Hello. I'm taking a short break on a personal project that I have been working on in Animation Master to work on this: I am almost finished with this but I still have a few things to go with it: * I need to finish the head by adding eyes, teeth and a tounge. * Finish the face. * Finish the hair. * Tweak the boots around the ankle area. * Tweak his butt. * Finalize his belt. * Rig it. * Model and rig his cape (I currently am using a rough stand-in now). * Add additional texture maps. I think that is it for now. My goal is to not get caught up in the details and finish this in another two weeks or so. I find that with my persona…

So here's my WIP so far. I'm using this scene to test the Latimer model I have. This is a very rough blocking and I'm simply looking at the timing of it now. I would have used the frame burn post effect but it doesn't seem to be working. Anyway I'm looking for feedback on initail poses and how I could make them stronger and better. finishes_here.mov

HI everyone, it's been awhile I guess! As some of you may know, I put computer animation aside about four years ago after learning and working in A:M for over ten years, to focus on learning traditional cel animation. I've got one project, "Sexy Texie", that has been making the rounds of film festivals for the past year. You can see it on Vimeo. I tried to add a link here, but the post got wonky! I'm working on a new one, a poem about an eight year old boy who builds his own hydrogen-powered race car to enter in the big race. They won't let him enter because he's only eight, but he decides to enter anyway. I've got this one shot that I'm unable to draw by hand, and R…

Okay, I've just finished a small piece I've been working on. A little info here: I've been working on editing video of my two daughters (ages 21 months & 3 years). The video clips will be put on a DVD for my wife and the two grandmothers. Before the main menu on the DVD there's an opportunity to insert an intro video, so this is what I've created. First off, I apologize to the MAC folks if they can't view Windows Media Files. I tried other formats, but was having a hard time to keep this down to a small enough file size. I do recognize that there's several flaws with this animation. The monkey (in the foreground) has a few issues with twisting o…

I just modeled one of those lightning balls, I had one in my room and I thought it would be a cool prop. Here what it is if you dont know what I'm talking about... http://storeforknowledge.com/itemdetails.cfm/ID/616 (Lightning Ball) The one I modeled is at the bottom, anyways I have all of the materials and everything on it except for the 'electricity'. What would be the best way to make it? I have been playing around with different stuff and I just want another opinion. Thanks in advance, and hope you like it so far !!

I'm working on a Australian Shepherd model and I'm trying to add hair to the model but I'm wondering is there an easy way to control the hair color? The hair lengths isn't right yet either, but that is such a tedious task to adjust so I'm saving that for later. Correct me if I'm wrong or leaving out an option, but I can control the color of the hair either by: 1.) Model Surface patch color. 2.) Surface color of the hair material. 3.) A image in the Hair material. I was hope was that if I decaled the surface with colors I wanted, those colors would translate to the hair color but that doesn't seem to be the case. A bunch of decals with alphas channels to …

Hi all - Here is a noob decaling question. The attached model has transparency of 40%. I have applied a decal which clearly is darker than the rest of the model(look at the top of the model - here is more transparent than the face which is the decal). I have matched the colors in my paint program to the model's RGB values. I presume because the model is semi-transparent this accounts for the color differences. Am I correct? How do I get around this? Thanks for any thoughts. Doug

The new v13 displacement is so fun to play with, but for some tricky situations (see attachment) you have to go further than the usual 8 bit gray scale image displacement maps. Remember that this is just one single patch! ..and it's fast to render too; less than 60 seconds with 9 passes. [attachmentid=13363]

Hello, I'm trying to create water using the very useful tutorial at The Babbage Patch. I encounter a problem, however, when I try to apply the displacement material onto a simple square. The material is set up correctly, but when I apply it to the object, it comes out as a blank white sheet. Here's a screenshot-- I've followed all the instructions very carefully. The only problem I have in mind is a difference in software; the author created his tutorial with A:M 2001, and I'm using A:M 2005. On the other hand, does anyone have a different way of creating an ocean? I'd ultimately like to create a wake from a ship as well, but I have to get by this …

I've been working on this in bits of spare time I manage to carve out now and then - 10 minutes here and there, basically. It's Robbie Sinclair from the TV show "Dinosaurs" (I couldn't come up with any original ideas that were interesting enough). I plan on modeling the whole thing, texturing, rigging, and eventually animating as well. This is the first character model I've really committed to in A:M, since I don't really consider myself a modeler, but I want to get better. I know I have to work on the CP layout, parallel rows are getting pretty dense in some areas. I've had some problems with hooks (they never seem to want to work, is there a trick to making …
