Every year, I have to update a commercial for a golf tournament. I couldn't find my project from last year so I started from scratch. I spent most of my time on the grass/hair. Crits are welcome.

It's late and I'm tired so I'll get to the point. I'm trying to make this bug character that has an expressive face yet is still recognizable as a ground beetle. I made the face lighter so the facial features, and especially the mouth, were visible. I got the idea from studying A Bug's Life. Overall, I'm hapy with the results, but I would love some suggestions on how to make the face more expressive. I think I should make the mouth bigger, but should it have eyelids that blink and eyebrows? Any other comments or suggestions would be great. Here is the link: bug test

Hello - for those of you that are tired of my dental animation... sorry. ;-) This one is actually pretty cool - it is for a dentist that created a new patented "braces" application combining the 3 current brace systems. The animation starts by showing the traditional 3, then his idea of combining the three and how it would work - then possibilities of what can be done with them. I had to start completely from scratch with new teeth and gums and everything, because in parts of the anim we had to make the gums transparent to see the correction of the teeth and roots. Anyway, just a warning watch when you are not sleepy - it might just put you out. ;-) http://www.fl…

With everybody making head models, I felt the urge to play with making one today, going for more realistic than I normally do. I borrowed the ear from my v3 Krok model. Not liking the mouth right now, but still, fun to mess with... I should point out that I model the whole head rather than doing that face mask thing.

Hi folks! I've been working on this in my spare time. As I have little experience in building models from scratch this one is a modified Tarzan from the A:M 2004 disk. I've yet to apply textures. What do you think?

After rigging up one of my character's (his name is Bertram) face using a slightly modified version of Victor Navone's face rig (thanks for sharing Victor and thanks to Shaun Freeman for providing a downloadable example), I wanted to see if the changes I made would work before moving on to other things. At first I just did a bunch of facial expressions, but I found that my timing needs loads of work. I decided to try a lip sync test so that I'd have a guide to go by. I've used this as a way to try to get better at animating, feel free to C&C I'm sure I could use it. Anyway, here's a final render of the test that I thought I'd throw out since so many others hav…

hi gang, here is my latest lip synch attempt. this about the 3rd pass. it isn't as lifelike as i want it to be, but it is definitely the closest i have ever come to breathing some life into one of my characters. i guess i am my own worst critic, and i've heard this dialogue so many times that i want to pull my hair out. i love bruce cambell, but i think i have ruined this quote for me....damn. note to self: don't lip synch with something you really like, you will learn to hate it! anyway here it is, let me know what you think! Recently i have gotten the oppurtunity to do some more work for NASA ( no pay but it will look good on my resume). At the NASA Glenn research center several groups are working on designs for the modules to go back to the moon, one of the groups needs some modeling and animation done, and asked if i was up for it. Of course i accepted. Below is what i have done so far. I am going to have to make a few bump maps and diffuse maps for the lander, but it is pretty much done. Comments welcome, Ben. PS the legs are fully articulate, so are the radiator panels (the random black panels).

Well I have always liked airplanes. Military planes by far being my favorite. And growing up with my dad telling me stories about the F4 phantoms from Vietnam, I knew one day I would build one. Anyway here is an early screen shot of the model. I have about 3 hours into the project and I'm starting to see potential. Hope you guys enjoy.

Occasionally when I'm animating the splines on my model will stop smoothly interpolating thru their CPs. Suppose several patches are twisted then straightened out. The CPs move to their correct places but the splines going thru them don't' quite adjust right it's as if the angles of intersection has frozen. like this. I've marked the corresponding angles with red green and blue arcs. So far, saving and reloading is the only sure remedy. Anyone seen this and know what causes it?

This is a 28 mm miniature test piece. By 28 mm it means from the floor to eye level is 28 mm. Will be (trying) to do a 12" version. The displacement map function has some abnormality. Will see if it works when I work on her "hair". Cheers, Rijk

I am playing around with Sam and the 11second club audio file. Not sure if i will have time to finish it. The rig is great, but making a character alive and believable is still hard. So many things I feel look strange, 11 seconds seems huge. I encourage everybody to try tthis great rig though. Ten_second_march23a.mov Michel

Well, I was moving on to another vehicle for my project and, thanks to the wonderful Osprey U6 tutorial by JohnArtBox, I was able to complete this in less than a full day! THANKS JOHN! I was nearly finished and realized that something didn't look quite right... I changed the engine size and now I'm really not sure which one looks better. What do you think the one on the left or the on the right?

Just started learning AM two weeks ago. Am modeling this metal object as an excercise. It has complex surfaces with smooth and sharp edges (no porcelan.) All normals are facing out. Been tweaking this a long time but can't seem to get the creases out. Any help?

Hi - finished up 2 more teeth animations for the dentist - these two had more modeling involved, so they were more fun to do. They are located on my site in the lower middle section "3D Flash Demonstrations" - #2 and #3 are the new ones. The "non surgical tooth advancement" one was pretty challenging getting all the metal tooth components to work properly and look good. The "porcelain onlay" one came out pretty cool - I had to model the machine used to grind down the onlay and show it grinding it down and appear as if water was spraying on the inside - and use different color lights for the different stages. I didn't come out half bad. Anyway - here is my site if yo…

http://youtube.com/watch?v=y29l0h-1yAE Just finished a VERY RETAIL TV spot for my recurring client, Art Van Furniture. The imagery was generated by decalling furniture photos to A:M geometry. Of note: I used the BensLens Fisheye to get the 'barrel-roll' effect (I love) and you can really see it in the middle on the words 'FUNCTION-STYLE-FASHION' Also used the AI Wizard for titles and Field Render for video smoothness... client LOVED it!

Hello All, I was wondering if there is a "Make Spherical Map" button in Photoshop? Plugin? I have an image that I would like to use as a spherical decal, and I know the top and bottom need to be "stretched" so they map on the Sphere correctly, but I don't know an easy way to do this. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Eugene

I'm doing a little animation project that involves an alien abduction and eventually the main character gets stuck in an alien ufo. Now I've found that coming up with ideas for the interior of the ship is a very hard process and frankly I'm at a loss as to what I should make it look like. It's up in the air if the inside will be organic like many alien abduction movies portray, or more metal like something in the X-Files Fight the Future movie. Any and all ideas are welcome as to style, look, design, surfce materials, and things that would be found inside the ship. I'm drifting towards a creepy look to it, but anything is welcome. Chances are that I would use many ideas, …
