A:M Forum Rules
GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.
-No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.
-No "Wish list" or feature requests, they should be sent to www.hash.com/reports for categorizing and prioritization (User requests define the future development of the software).
-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

I did an annual purchase of AM a few days ago. AM seems nice, was very happy to see the 3d connexion option, though every time I start AM the Windows Colors drops to the limited Windows 7 Basic palette. It's rather disappointing, as the windows 7 basic color palette looks ugly compared to the other palette. Does any know when this will probably get fixed? Also, what are the current rumors on OpenCL rendering?

Hi folks, I decided to play around with A:M v18 (I've been an on/off A:M user for many years) and I'm faced with the same dilemma when I buy a subscription: should I use the Windows version or the Mac version? I'm primarily a Mac person, but I have Windows 7 installed under BootCamp as well. I've had stability issues with the Mac version of A:M in the past. In general, what is the consensus with stability regarding OS X vs Windows version? I don't want to start a platform war! I use both (and Linux), but I'm just looking for a recommendation since I have a choice. Also, it's not explicitly mentioned, but is the Mac version of A:M 64 bit? Thanks folks! -Sean

I would like to make a wireframe render of my object but i do not want the teal background of AM. I would like it to be white with the wireframe to be black. I tried to change the background color under the camera settings but it still gives me a teal color. Can that be achieved? Thanks. Pierre

When I am using Wire frame mode of my model, edges of the model shown rounded (Please check the attached "Wireframe" pic). When I am using Shaded mode of my model, edges of the model shown sharp (Please check the attached "Shaded" pic). But I have seen from a tutorial that it does not happen with others. Just wondering if it is some set up problem. Can anyone please explain it to me?

I have this wolf model, but I need some help with it. I have some stubborn folds that won't go away. I'm also getting this weird line in the middle of my wolf's head when it's in toon render. Also if anyone has a tip on my wolf be sure to tell me. For instance if the legs are to long tell me, because I'm going for a cartoon wolf, but I want to stay proportional and a little realistic. fullbody.mov bodytest3.mov wolf.mdl

Thanks to all the help from robcat and others with my "thread" reveal pose I set it up and it works fine in the pose window, and the threads flow as wanted but as soon as I put it into the choreography - ZIP! NOTHING! No effect and the pose slider is wigging out-displaying numbers that aren't the same as the timeline. See attached PRJ and JPG file screenshot. Any help greatly appreciated. Why would it work in the pose windows and not the chor?????? ThreadsTest01.prj

Wood Floor

Hey, I wanted to see what my living room would look like with a wood floor. I built the walls, and now I'm working on the floor, and thinking of my options: 1. Make a large decal in Photoshop by copying a sample of floor I found on line 2. Putting a decal or material on one board, and keep coping that board until I have a finished floor (I'm thinking that will kill my render times 3? Am I missing another option? (I tried the duplicator plug in, but it won't copy the decal. Any ideas?

12 frames into an action i realize that the pivot of the hip null on Thom would be wildly more helpful if it was located in another position in relation to the box. the pivot is smack dab in the middle, as per use, and i'd need it to be on top of his left thigh, more to the right when looking from the front, but still in the middle when looking from the side. (he's quietly diggin' this totally noddable gansta rap and taps the beat with one heel.) in chor i could click into modelling and shift the pivot, but i only need the pivot to move to his right in this action. how do i plan this? and execute this? is there an animatable "offset" or somesuch? make a second nu…

As a user of another program whose name I shall not speak (LOL) there are certain work flows I have grown used to and am curious if I can do something similar with Hash. One involves the use of groups for keying animation. As an example, many times I will key in the body and the face separate, so easy peasy, I would just make two groups, one that contains all the body animation controls and one containing all the facial animation controls. This helps to keep a clean time line and makes it easier if say, want to re-time the body animation without effecting lip sync. I've watched Robcat's uber helpful keying tutorials, but so far haven't figured out a way to do this i…

I havent worked on A:M for about 2 years but now im getting back to it by the influence of the 11 Second Club. I guess Hash doesnt support the phone help anymore since the number is only good for redirection back to the internet. Anyways... I have a new computer but now with Vista Home Premium. The program works smoothly but has a little bit of glitches. I'm not sure if I should upgrade since I have V11.1 now that i decide to be up-to-date. Should I Upgrade or not?? So im working on a 11 second animation short thats due before December 25th and I'm having trouble with the actions. Im using KeeKat and i made 2 seperate actions for him. First I got done with the lip s…

I'm a bit stuck on my personal project right now, and waiting for a new license key, so I'm back in v13 at the moment and thought I would go through the tutorials. My thinking is it is better to be doing something than nothing. I sort of glossed over the earlier tutorials in favor of the modelling tutorials, as that is what I was having problems with at the time. I loaded the Keykat model and noticed there is something a bit off about him - his eyes look like they are too far back in his sockets and one of his fingers has a CP jumping way off it. Is this normal? I loaded him directly from the CD. I can fix the eyes simply enough, by moving them forward, not sure…

So right now I am working on learning smartskin. I'm in bones mode, I right click the bone that I want to drive the muscle motion, then go to New smartskin (I didn't see an option to choose x, y, or z rotate though - this was listed in the technical reference, and the copy I have is pretty old so something may have changed). AM then brought up a new Action window. I then moved my bone where I wanted it, and went into Muscle mode to adjust the control points at that extreme position. It seems to be working, when I move the bone now the points follow. Is that more or less how it is supposed to work? Also, in Muscle mode, the points that make up the smartskin t…

I've been gone from AM for a while, but I intend to come back with a vengeance! Trouble is that I'm not ready to upgrade at this time. I see a lot of useful files out there, but they don't seem to want to cooperate with me. I have version 8.5f and it doesn't want to load any later mdl versions. I seem to remember that in the past I could simply open the model file as a text file and switch the version number to 8.5 and it would work (granted all the "new" features would produce errors and be automatically deleted). However, this doesn't seem to be working for me anymore. Any suggestions? ((edit: Vengeance and a spellchecker!))

I am getting my first copy of A:M ever at the Comic Con this weekend! I will go and get the 2006 version so it will run on my Intel-based mac. So, until then, I will continue modeling in blender, which is fun, but limiting, and hopefully I will be able to do some animation in A:M.... Oh, and not sure if any of you have heard of Ruby Gloom, but my dad's girlfriend is Rita Street, the executive producer, and she used to write for animation magazines, so hopefully she can teach me a thing or two! In the mean time, if anyone would like to see any of my work done in Blender so far, click the link in my sig...

you know the last post i made, "feet?", it had questions about the legs following the feet and stuff. this time, i imported the "2001 Skeleton", and stuff, after a while, adding all the flesh and stuff to the bone, it worked fine. just now it has seemed to have forgotten the constraints to the bones, and it wont move with the targets. can you tell me what constraints go to which target/bone?

Hello, I recently received a flyer describing a neat 2006 upgrade that will have "Group Project" software and that software will facilitate an animation that we can all participate in. Great idea and so I have decided to post my work in hopes that I can join the project. I like the forums and community that seems to be available here. With that here is my first post, which is for Exercise 1. Thanks

Hello Everyone! I recently purchased Animation Master after seeing it demonstrated by the fabulous James Hash. The robustness of A:M blew my mind. Name: Cole Cash Exercise completed: Exercise 1 date completed: 05/22/2006 Instructor: Tao:AM Comments: The tutorial was simple yet you learn a great deal about the navigation tools. Every time that I dropped KeyKat into the Chor his left right foot seemed to be twisted. I tried to drop him into the chor several times and even re-installed A:M. I finally solved the problem by rotating the (I believe) null. On to exercise 2!

Hello everyone. I've purchased A:M, the yearly sub option, and am diving into some tutorials. I'm going through Fuchur's tutorial here. It's a project-based tutorial, which is my favorite kind, so I'm looking forward to working through it. I've hit a bump, however. I located a couple versions of Zevel via a forum search here, but none of the versions I found seem to be recognized by A:M. I have it installed to the HXT folder, and I've closed and re-opened the program, but it doesn't show in the list when I right-click on the spline. Is it maybe an outdated? Is there an updated version that works with v19? I can bypass the beveling steps if necessary. No big de…

Is it possible to configure A:M to zoom on the mouse pointer? I realize I can use the Bound Zoom when I need to zoom in on a specific area, and that works great, but using the scroll wheel and mouse pointer together to zoom in on a target area has become second nature... Just curious.

The Sizes of Defaults Cornell Box 55x55x55 cm. If I enlarge sizes to 200x200x200 cm (and more), then in what progression should I increase quantity and parameters of light sources? Is there any definite pattern in such calculations? Is there any formula for such calculation? May be it’ll be optimal to reduce pro rata models themselves, which are settled in Cornell Box, rather than enlarge Cornell Box? And one more question. What function does the detail "luminaire" execute in Cornell-Demo-Defaults project? Thanks to everybody. Excuse me my imperfect English.
