I've encountered this intermittently in version 8.5 and it has appeared again in this new version. I'm modeling a Nieuport 17 and the wheels have become square in modeling. It renders as a circle, but then goes back to a square. Can anyone tell me what I have done and how to undo it? thanks...

I was reading de Rodney's post about WIP banner in the jobs forum... and I thought of a project based in wood gears and perpetual motion machine .... here is it ... no keyframes in this animation as you can see in the image below ... all moviments are based in expressions. I'll post the project tomorrow ... it's on my office's machine. engrenagem.mov

Nothing earth shattering; just a different way to layout patches based on the idea of retopolgy; i.e. using an existing model as a template for a new mesh. The first image shows the original model - the red hood of a 1955 Chevy truck - modeled by Stian and generously lent to me. As you can see he formed the surface in the typical fashion by drawing splines along the major contour lines. But as usual when you have a cylindrical/spherical detail in a rectangular surface you can't avoid generating 3 and/or 5 point patches; which, as you can see in the second image, sometimes are not realistically smooth no matter how much you tweak the bias handles. Believe me I tried. …

Character was inspired by a cat we met over thanksgiving. Poor domestic long hair kitty had been given a lion cut by his owner. Was pretty funny. I also wanted a new character to build, learn from...was getting tired of stealing from others. Have to finish rigging, weighting, texturing, yada yada. Not happy with my IK legs. Will be looking at 2008 rig legs and try to incorporate something similar. Not finished with face rig. The mouth whiskers are giving me fits rigging wise. Can't quite figure out how to weight, bone so that when upper nozzle moves, the attached ends of the whiskers move appropriately. Have to add an easy to use tail rig. Have been…

Some of you might remember a long time ago I announced my new project entitled 'Briar Rose'. Well, after many years I've finally got together enough shots to make a trailer. Actually, the first 3 minutes is more a teaser for the rest of the short. And of course everything (3D) done in Animation Master, versions 8.5 to 11.1. Here are the direct links: http://www.hash.com/users/milos/BRIARROSE_SMALL.mov You have the option of a large Quick Time movie at 81 Mb (800x450) or a small one at 12 Mb (400x225). I've used the new H.264 codec so you'll need QT7. If you are on a PC it's better to view the large trailer with a player like VLC (http://www.videolan.org…

Well, since I posted my Spider-man pic for the Image contest awhile back: Old Spider-Man Pic I got comments that my proportions were all off. Well, they were right on the money there. I never realized that I suck when it comes to making well proportioned humaniods. I decided to break out my old Poser program and make some rotos of a human male (front, side and back). If anyone would want these, I could zip them up and post them here. I brought them into A:M, and modeled according to the size and shape of the rotos. So now if my proportions are off we can blame Poser . Down at the bottom is the attached picture of my new Spider-man WIP from the fro…

Am I missing something? Load this PRJ, select the camera in the chor, look at its Fog Start and End distance properties... CameraFogTest.prj The Start is keyed to go from 100 to 200 to 400 cm the End is keyed to go from 1000 to 2000 to 4000 cm... the curve editor seems to show the curves right but all the camera's properties display is the initial values of 100 and 1000 they should be showing continuously updating values, right? Yes, i have "Use camera settings" checked.

Here's some strange behavior I discovered over the weekend, although it was on the Mac and I haven't tested it on the pc side as yet. With toon render on, and a hole created with a Boolean cutter, when an object is viewed through the Boolean cutter hole the object has no toon lines. It's a minor problem that I can solve at the compositing stage but I wonder if it's worth an A:M Report? On the other hand if anyone has anything to add that would clarify this that would be nice too.

Has anyone else noticed an odd habit of patches only showing their inside surfaces in Shaded Wireframe mode when trying out CP waitings in an Action Window? All is well until you start to move something. Makes it really difficult to check for correct mesh deformation and spotting any poke through if there's some underlying mesh. Doesn't always happen but it dose seem to happen a good 90% of the time for me. Using v16a and 15j+ on Mac 10.6.8, with an i7 & 8GB RAM Patches_In_Action_Windows.mp4

All of my choreographies are all of a sudden not rendering properly, especially in reflections. I don't know what went wrong, but if I can't fix it, that will be it for me an A:M. I'm hoping I accidentilly hit a setting or something that is now screwing it up. I would like to restore the default settings, but don't know how. I've already made sure all my reflection settings were good. I also uninstalled and reinstalled. Please, any help is appreciated and needed. Here's a quik render of spidey in a new chor and in the chor I've been using in my Spider-man thread. Jeff B. EDIT: Please ignore this stupid post. I don't know how but somehow I had fo…

I was just wondering if Hash had any plans to update their import / export plugins and perhaps add some. I would be interested in an FBX export/import plugin as it's one of the standards and something I require (As I'm sure I'm not the only one). If not soon or not ever, I was also wondering if there was anyone else in the community that works with DX Studio and or Unity 3D and knows of a nice transition to use Animation Master in their game development pipeline. DX Studio uses .X files however I'm not to sure if the export is 100% compatible as I've not had much luck with it. This could be due to me not knowing what options I should be selecting as output…

I like the contests that we have on here, although I myself have never particapated, I do enjoy seeing what the members around here come up with. Very inspiring!!! So I'm wondering how many people would be interested in having a contest each month? Strictly animation though. No stills or anything like that. In case your wondering I got this idea from the 11 second club, a website that also has a function like this. Its pretty dang great to see the work that comes out of this. The rules would be simple. Me or another member can choose a small 10 second clip and then members can animate something to go along with the clip. Segments must be rendered out completely. Sets an…

Was fooling around with my penguin model doing some test moves after working on tutorials earlier. Noticed something funny when moving the bones - there is like a ghost image of the bone in its original location. Not sure why this is happening. Maybe I need to switch to Opengl as opposed to direct3d drivers? I am running AM on the integrated GPU and not on the Quadro, so I don't think the Quadro is causing problems. Anyone have any thoughts? I've uploaded an example of what I am talking about, here and in my WIP thread. These are not extra bones, but some kind of display issue.

Has the Setup Machine 2 been dropped from compatible plugins? I copied the TSM2 files to the HXT folder in A:M16 but they are not available from the plugins menu now. I haven't seen an official statement regarding TSM and A:M16 so I'm not sure if this is an issue for A:M Reports or if this is normal behaviour for A:M16. Any clues?

Bouncing ball is the atom on which character animation is built. Would there be interest in such a class? It would be about 4 or 5 lessons, each one focusing on some small element and building on the previous ones. Unlike a series of tutorials that are just out there, it would be an online class where everyone is doing the same exercise at the same time. Hopefully being able to do a proper bouncing ball will enable you to more critically assess your other animation efforts and avoid elementary problems.

If you're running the latest version of OS X, you have access to the new Mac App Store. There's a free application in there called "Art Text Lite." It reminds me a little of an old application called TypeStyler that I used to use in the old days. Anyway, the free version comes with several preset styles. If you make a circle and apply the styles to them, you can then save out large resolution spheres that you can use with the Matcap shader! (Make sure your final image is square and has a black background.) If you spend the $20 for the full version, you have access to even more preset styles and you can customize your own.

Hi! I'm an old user and I'm considering to come back to the amazing world of A:M. I come from v11 and I would like to know which version is the latest and what are the main differences between them. Also... I prefer the boxed one and not the subscription. Are both the same? Thanks in advance and regards.

I noticed a couple big set backs using decals for camera projection mapping besides the spastic positioning of the decal which is easy enough to use the numeric inputs... Low angled patches don't receive decals. Decals only apply to what is visible in the scene so your limited to just what is initially in the scene. Is there another way to do this besides decals?

Congratulations to Will Sutton for stealing the show on the mascot contest. Here are/were my two additions. 1)Motormouth... this is the alternate version I debated over entering. An old character I repurposed for the contest. Used a MatCap ambient shader on the car paint which I think works pretty well. 2) Kitty Kat- this was done very quickly, and was a test using A:M Paint to control the color and length of the fur. I hope to finish her up and do some animation with it. Kitty Kat cartoon on label by Shane Glines. Both did very very poorly in the voting- but I wasn't in it to win... just happy to participate. I'd like to thank the one other person who gave…

I'm wanting to change the color of a group on a model, in the chor. When i click on the color chip no color i set gets accepted and the RGB channels for the color do not resemble the values shown in the color picker. The red and green are actually below zero. Is there a good reason these are not corresponding to the color picker? I dimly recall seeing something like this a long time ago but don't recall if it was intended or not.

I used a volumetric mist object the other day, and came across a lot of settings that I haven't been able to find an explanation for anywhere. Not in the tech ref, nor here in the forum. Anyone got any idea what "mistiness" does? Or "sampling rate"? Or "Height" x 2 (not the one in transform)? Help would be much appreciated :-)

Hi guys, Been on a hiatus because I was very busy with art school. I got a 1 week break so I might as well continue the work that I had previously put on hold... I had a nagging problem with some cho files having these nameless 'phantom' models in the Project Workspace three under the Choreographies 'branch'. They're not inside the choreographies, but they have the same hierarchy level with the chor files but they just came out of nowhere and seem to procreate themselves each time I save the chor. This is what I'm talking about. And this is the .cho file in question 004.cho The linked model files of the .cho were intentionally left out…

I've been playing around with something called Titanium Developer, which allows you to write an application using web developer skillz ( HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, Ruby and Python ) and then package it as a desktop application. So I wrote a very simple program to convert a Choreography file to an Action file. When I installed it on WindowsXP, the installer threw an error half way through the installation process, but it installed OK and worked just fine. I can't test it in Win7 or Mac, so you're on your own there... Windows and Mac (OSX 10.5 Intel based) versions are available here: http://api.appcelerator.net/p/pages/app_page?token=R4qf9KX0 ---------------…

Try loading this prj in v16... cloth_tower08_taller.prj cancel out of the requests for images and models, then try to resave it under a new name. Are you able to save? It fails for me, even when the images and model are available so it's not their absence that is the problem.
