Ilidrake
Attached is the screen of the problem I'm having. This "box" shows whenever I try to select anything. For some reason the area just turns black. Nothing serious just odd. I'm using the Nvidia 9600GT on a pentium quad 2.66ghz.
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted February 26, 2011 Hash Fellow Share Posted February 26, 2011 To try... on your Options>Global tab... disable "Don't disable Aero on startup" That's a triple negative!
Ilidrake
UHHHHH I'm a bit confused by that comment. Are you talking about the Compatability under properties? Under AM options? I dont see that in AM options.

Ilidrake
To try... on your Options>Global tab... disable "Don't disable Aero on startup" That's a triple negative! Well here's a screen of my global options screen. This is v16 rc and I don't have anything about disable areo. This is the 32 bit version. The 64 bit version doesn't have the option either. John Bigboote
I have never seen that option... I have a Nvidia and an ATI on 2 different computers, Win XP64, Win 7... never seen Tools/Options/Global/Don't disable aero checkbox.
Ilidrake
I still have no idea while it does this. It doesn't while running in DirectX. If I go to OpenGL it does. Yet performance is far better with OpenGL and i would prefer it if i could run in that mode.
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted February 26, 2011 Hash Fellow Share Posted February 26, 2011 It must be my special Aero glasses. Do you have "Disable Desktop Composition" checked in your Compatibilities tab inthe Properties for the A:M icon?
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted February 26, 2011 Hash Fellow Share Posted February 26, 2011 Pssst... If anyone asks about the "Don't Disable Aero" option, tell them i had to kill you after I told you about it.
Ilidrake
Yep. Thats disabled and I've tried all the other options but nothing fixes it. Should I just send this to someone?
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted February 26, 2011 Hash Fellow Share Posted February 26, 2011 It just started doing this? What changed?
Ilidrake
No. AM has always done this on all my machines. Anytime I use OpenGL this happens. I've tried many settings and nothing fixes it. Like I said it's no biggie cause I can use it with DirectX but the image is nearly as smooth or fast as OpenGL. I would prefer to figure this out and use OpenGL but if there is no fix I'll just carry on as usual.
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted February 26, 2011 Hash Fellow Share Posted February 26, 2011 And of course, we always ask... "Are your video card drivers up to date?"
Ilidrake
Yep. My whole system is completely up to date.

John Bigboote
Do you have "Disable Desktop Composition" checked in your Compatibilities tab inthe Properties for the A:M icon? Where is this again? On my work PC I have video card issues new to V16 that will amaze you... I've been chasing drivers and fiddling with settings and 'living with it' for months now... usually a save-restart gets me going again, but for how long...? That is on my WinXP64 Nividea Quadro FX 3500.I've updated the driver, updated OpenGL even. A:M 64 is much worse- but the 32 is bad too. I'll take any lead I can get. Maybe I'll do a screen capture for the forums entertainment.

Anecdotally, it sounds like people have more trouble with the "Quadro" cards than any other.
Ilidrake
Mine isn't a Quadro card. I use GeForce cards and still have the problem. The 32bit version running OpenGL doesn't seem to have this issue but it does tend to crash more often.
