Hi I rendered this simple space pod, thingy and used a starfield on a layer. The render has produced a flickering line on the left of the layer which is puzzling me. Does anyone know what would cause this?

hi, i just posted in the general A:M forum but it seems i can´t post images there. Well here´s the render i mentioned w/ my makeshift area light. I think it looks alright but there are artifacts that bother me a bit, in the form of weird shadows in the forehead. However, i believe it´s the lighting since the model has already been smoothed out w/ porcelain and it´s articfact-less w/ the default chor lights. Any thoughts?

I'm rendering a series of frames for the water spout in the current short. The sequence is being rendered as tga files with an alpha channel with the intention of compositing it within the scene. As the render goes through I noticed this strange effect in the shadow and wondered what might have caused it and how to avoid it future ? It appears to be showing the polys the splines approximate too ? The spline rings are far less substantial then the lines suggest. ( think there are 4 in the head of the spout. Multi pass on at 16, toon lines set to 0.2, bias at 20%, default surface properties. OSX 10.68 on Imac, V15. Any help gratefully received re…

Hi Folks, Just wondering if anyone knew a way to render a model like this. Its a source file for a stereogram generating programme. I think the rule is that lightest values in the pic appear foremost in the stereogram. Maybe there is a way to do it post render... any ideas? Cheers AndyG

Hello folk - I'm trying to put together a simple ball exercise. I've constrained my ball to a path, dropped on an action, rendered and ... ewww. It appears that each time my ball squashes and stretches it is fouling the render. Please see attached. Any idea what may be causing this? I've tried this in a couple of different chor's and same result. I'm using ver 10.5r. Thanks for any help. ..d Lesson1_Dtest.mov

Hi, I'm a 'rusty' old 'old timer' but I'm back and trying to animate and get some video of a bunch of models (space ships for the most part) created for my last AM project (a book trailer for my sci-fi book). To give credit where due, some models were created by AM users from all around the world. I'm using V14 NetRender (I plan to upgrade shortly), however, so far, I've only tried rendering right out of AM. I'm encountering a problem I've not seen before and it's happening on all three of the scenes I've tried to render (so that means 3 different sets of prj files, model files, etc). Things are 'shimmering' on finals renders (this best description I can come u…

When Rendering: 1. Bump Maps are faster than additional geometry (think shoelaces)? 2. Displacement Maps are faster than additional geometry? 3. Smart Skin wrinkles in cloth render faster than "Cloth Simulation"? "Right", "wrong" or "what are you smoking"? Cheers!

Before downloading to your desktop, and playing the qicktime, remember these commands. For PC users "Cntrl F" for full screen and "Cntrl 0" Zero not the letter O for Half size if the picture is too large for your display. For mac users substatute CNTRL with the Command key. I hesitate to show this clip because its no where near finished and I am not happy with it at all. Not to mention this is one shot out of about 16 and its out of context so it will not be to impressive to you. The shot lacks the render quality/ look that I desire. My inexperience caused me to shoe horn in some AO into an indoor scene and it kind of works but so far I feel a Radiosity look…

This little problem is proving to be a right headache... Have a look at the frame below and notice the rendering time for the anti-aliasing. Over one hour for pass1 and over two hours for pass2 - this seems rediculous considering the frame before only took 8 minutes! The scene is using particles and volumetric lights but why the sudden jump in render times from one frame to the other???

I've modeled this small RC plane for my day job and I'm getting a weird dark or shadowed patch that I can't account for, which I've circled in red on this jpeg. I'm also attaching the prj file. If anyone can look at this quickly and see what might be causing it, I can't figure it out nohow! 924290.04_Hor_airplane.zip

ok, i got a big big problem here, deadline is in 2 days... i have this shot i need to render in high quality, at least 2000x1500 px.... the soccerfields grass is a hair system, color driven by a decal. when i rendered it in vga-resolution for a test with low hair-density (5%) everything looked fine, but when i increase the density parts of the hairsystem renders white, not green anymore... the higher the density-value, the more parts of the grass are rendered white. i use a skylight rig with 25 lights, wich was no problem in the past, also in combination with a field of grass made with hair with similar density-values and size... i tried almost everything: rendered …

To speed up render times [in a multi-frame animation] am I right in assuming that objects that are turned off in the Properties no longer exist are far as render times and computing effort? I have a situation in which I've built jungle foilage. The individual 'leaf units' are light in CP's, but there's a lot of units. I'm thinking it would be nice if I could have them turned off before they enter the frame, and turned off again after they leave.

I have attached a file of a short scene rendered in 'Final' output. The 'shag emitter' used to simulate grass displays unwanted changes in the background during the animation (beginning on 2nd frame, and then again at about 2 1/2 seconds in). This anamoly does not appear when rendering in 'shaded' mode. Could the problem be that 'dynamics' is defaulted to "on" in the 'shag emitter'? I'd like some advice before rendering again - this 3 second shot took 17 hours to render at HDTV 1080 resolution. Which brings me to my next question. What is the recommended rendering resolution to bring my targa files into Adobe Premiere 2 for compiling. My intended output will be DVD…

Hey... I am new to the A:M and to 3D animation in general. One of the places that I was recommended to spend some time was Renderosity.com. When I went there, I found almost no one that used A:M. There is only one picture created with A:M there. Because I didn't know a lot about 3D, I pretty much ignored A:M until I finally figured it was worth exploring anyway (I ended up buying both Shade LE and Poser 5 as animation tools before looking into A:M). Anyway, I was hoping that some of you would sign up at Renderosity (http://www.renderosity.com/) and put some of your stills up there. It might help people like me to see the value of A:M and give it a chance early on. …

Here's my picture of how to deal with a 5-pointer. Note that the spline running through the corner terminates in a CP not attached to any others, the "dangling CP" that has left common memory: Refer to http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6213 for the rest of the discussion if you've ignored the 'ignore me' topic.

Ack...I did something a bit too quickly. When opening a project, I was prompted to click on where a model was located. I accidentally clicked on another model by mistake. I quickly exited out of loading the file. However, when I go to open the file now, it doesn't prompt me for the model again. I have now opened the project. Now, it would be simple if my project did not have any animation keyframes for the model that is supposed to be there in the first place. The model I accidentally imported in its place, is associated with the animated keyframes (both models are human bipeds and rigged exactly the same). Is there an easy way to replace the orroneous model with the…

A long time ago I seem to remember a thread that talked about blurring an object in motion. The trick was to have the middle to back of the object blurred with a trail in it's wake, but the front of the object was not blurred. Imagine a car or plane or fist in motion with the leading edge in focus and blurring the image as it goes by. I hope I'm explaining this right? MUFOOF may have been used, but I don't recall. Does anyone remember how to do this? Here is a pic that shows what I mean: Front relatively in focus as the rear blurs out inot the blurry background.

I decided to start a thread on some of my experimenting with outdoor lighting and rendering. So here is the scene I am going to be using: I designed/modeled it to have complex shadows, relfections, and have IOR somewhere (the water (1.33)) Here is a late afternoon lighting. I have updated that lighting setup slightly after the last render, I added 2 bulbs underwater (as suggested in this thread to give some shadow detail, and I also added a Lane T on the bottom of the pool. Ive been enjoying rendering to OpenEXR and using its high dynamic range (32 bit too) and buffers to get additonal tweakability. Next up is the midday daytime look! …

Hello! Once again it has been a while since I have posted a new project. This one is more of a sketch. The idea came when I was daydreaming in class . Here is where I am at: I am using a z-buffed kleig as the sun light, AO for the indirect lighting, and a few fill lights here and there. Notice the wavyness in the shadows, thats from low z-buffer map resolution. I marked up what I plan to do now: Photoman

Here is a screenshot of the place in the Property panel where you can swap your model in the chor for another model. At the very lease, both models must have the same bones and bone naming convention. If the first model uses an animation rig, the replacement should have the same rig installed.[attachmentid=12459]

Hello I seem to have screwed something up.......I started working on the giraffe tutorial, since I thought that might be beneficial since I still have some problems with modelling. I wanted to change the units for the grid, so I could follow along properly, from cm to ft. However, after I did that, the grid disappeared even though I have "display grid" checked. I had changed the grid spacing from .16cm to 1foot, I wouldn't have thought that would have made it disappear. I probably did something wrong, what I want to know is is there anyway to get the default settings back? Roger

A few years ago I had sketched out a design for a spacecraft and proceeded to model it in AM. I could never get the fuselage right. A few times a year I'd pull the model up and hack away on it but it just wasn't fulfilling my original vision. Sunday afternoon I had a what-the-hell moment and converted it to AM13. For whatever reason, it suddenly came together. I have a drawer full of old drawings with many a spacecraft sketch, but this one has always been my favorite; now it appears that I might finally be able to get it flying.

A character for a story I am working on at the moment, I mixed the head features in Makehuman, saved and imported as .obj/prop, and then retopo'd in a Choreography window of AM. I saw what David Higgins had made with his model and have found it a great way to model relatively quickly and easily. The splines form reasonably smoothly without a lot of editing as well.

hello, I work on a simple model is an ax with skulls. For skulls, I created a model voxel. Then I use the retopo in AM. It's very easy to use. And finally, 3DCoat serve me to create textures. it is a true Photoshop for 3D objects. the ax is modeled using rotoscope. in 3DCoat, one can also create rotoscope if not love working with retopo. it is also very useful and simple. Here are the drawings. in 3DCoat, one can also create rotoscope if not love working with retopo. it is also very useful and simple.

I was thinking about models and modeling and had a question for the group. Has anyone taken an old model and reworked the Cps to produce a new model. Not added or removed CPs, but just relocated the existing CPs to create a new character. What I'm thinking is that it takes probably as much time to decal, bone, rig, smart skin, etc as it does to build the underlying mesh, so would it be reasonable to take an existing mesh, with all the decals, bones, rigs, etc already set up and reposition CPs to give the model a new appearance. There is always the potential that the smart skin may not act correctly since the CP positions have changed, but most of the rest sh…

It's been a while since I posted anything in this area. Here is a clip of a case we have been working on for a long time. The Lawyer had to go off for military duty, so it was on hold. We were not happy with the vehicle interaction from the image perspective we had, so we decided to try a different image. Originally I had modeled the environment from a satellite photo and was able to use it for multiple views in Live action. It was a compromise all around. I decided to model the environment to suit the image, which results in strange looking modeled topography, but looks right in the final product, which leads us to where we are today. The …

A few years ago I setup a car suspension rig using surface constraints. The tires were driven by expressions with a use of a bones translation (had some issues, but fixed now). As the model moves along a path, the tires will rotate according to speed and direction. The setup consists of a blank driver pose. The bone that spins the tires and the path ease are driven by the driver pose, with expressions in the chor. The steering of the tires are also driven by a second path consraint of a target bone. truck3.mov
