Hi guys and gals. I haven't gotten to use AM for anything creative in a bit and was really starting to feel the lack of creativity in my life.. So this Sunday afternoon after church I sat down and started working on a character just for fun. And I was reminded once again why I don't use anything other than animation master... and how wonderfullly easy it is to just make stuff!

I started this at the end of my recent thread in "Showcase" but decided to move it into this WIP section instead. I'm working on several new videos for my channel and this is one that is about to begin. I've been wrestling with whether to produce this one first or to begin on one of two other short spoofs. Anyway....this is a Star Wars Themed spoof starring my character Larry. Several drawbacks come to the front in making this though. Here's a sample image of my work so far:

Hey everyone, I need to simulate(If possible).....a weighted but Bouyant object in a tube filled with water. It needs to be able to be flipped kinda like a "Sand Timer" and have the bouyant object rise to surface according to real world physics. Is it possible to use Newton Physics in A:M to simulate Bouyancy like this? Thanks so much, William

I have modeled a ski lift chair attached to a cable. I put in a path thinking i could constrain to it and the bones would carry the chair around the path. My problem is how to make the chair and cable move around the path. I have tried a few different relationship ideas - translate to, spin like, orient like, constraint to path - but haven't got it to work yet. I'm sure it is the wrong combination of relationships. Do i need to use cloth? I admit i don't know anything about cloth yet other than the flag waving tutorial. Here is an embedded project. Thank You. ski_lift_embed_all.prj

I once heard you could download Jeff Lew's "Learning Character Animation" (his 3 character models) from his wbsite, without having bought the DVD set. As his website is closed (I think), I'd like to know if someone has a coppy of them. could you plese send those 3D models to my pofile? Thanks!

This is more of a spline doodle than a WiP. I started splining without any goal in mind and the next thing I knew I was modeling Tin Woodman. For the animation portion (if you can really call it that) I was focused on two primary things; what expression could I make with solid shapes that don't articulate (i.e. how much squash and stretch could I get with shapes that don't change) and could I get a part of his neck design to double as a hint of lower teeth when his mouth opened to a full extent. The basic splining followed an attempt to distill Tin Woodman down to the fewest lines possible for easy of drawing (primarily for storyboarding) that I never ended up us…

"Sandcastles," my third short film and second major collaboration has officially moved into production. The main character was modeled in A:M. Determined to build the sandcastle of his dreams, a small child struggles against all odds to fulfill his destiny, even if it kills him. In case you didn't see it in the festivals, my last film, "Garrett" is now available to watch on Youtube. Production has begun on "Sandcastles," so watch for updates soon.

Just playing around with A:M's mocap again, this time in v11. No real changes but I'm consistantly amazed by how well it's implemented. This took me about 60 seconds to set up: mocap_am.mov (2.7MB) Just imagine if I spent 2 minutes on the setup. If you didn't catch them before, here are a few more tests I did in v's 10 and 10.5: mocap2.mov mocap3.mov Thanks for such a well-implemented, advanced feature guys!

I've spent the best part of the last two days trying to make the X-Machine float alongside The Sentinel. On the first try, it and the umbilical were part of the Beast model. There was a chain of 10 bones starting at Beast's pelvis and running out to the X-Machine. This didn't work because Beast has a rolling waddle, and this just yanked the machine left and right. It appeared to be firmly mounted on a curved pole which was bolted to the saddle. Also, moving the machine always kinked the chain and fine-tuning each bone was going to take years. Then I cut the machine and cable out of the model and broke it into two parts: machine and cable and Translated them to Beast. Same…

Hi, got an idea for a new project!! Ill see if I can upload a sketch but it involves an ocean shore with 2-3 large rocks and various small ones as the focal point. Grass and maybe a old beach chair or fence in there too. I have some of it done (see pic). I need to work on the sand texture/shader. I really want it to look real so I'm going to be spending a lot of time doing that.... The rocks are going to be a modified version on the one I used on my previous project. The water was kinda interesting to do. I had to adjust the transparency and reflectivity to get the right look. I wanted to use the Index of Refraction, density, and transparency settings for more realistic w…

Hello friends For the last couple of weeks I have been working on recreating my office into A:M. This still a WIP since there are MANY small models yet to create. This is my office (or the entrance of the basement flat that it actually is ) where I spend a lot of time fiddling with A:M I feel like I have achieved the atmosphere pretty well (the room is lit by two spotlights, and the it's actually as dark as that) Its rendered in radiosity (~11hr). I have made but not yet rendered a mx1000 mouse and a mousepad and done some adjustments to the grey keyboard (and there is lot more to add... alot) I appreciate comments or criticism

I'm doing a little animation project that involves an alien abduction and eventually the main character gets stuck in an alien ufo. Now I've found that coming up with ideas for the interior of the ship is a very hard process and frankly I'm at a loss as to what I should make it look like. It's up in the air if the inside will be organic like many alien abduction movies portray, or more metal like something in the X-Files Fight the Future movie. Any and all ideas are welcome as to style, look, design, surfce materials, and things that would be found inside the ship. I'm drifting towards a creepy look to it, but anything is welcome. Chances are that I would use many ideas, …

Somewhere on this forum some one showed a project they were working on describing a solid object turning into a cloud. What I am working is an arrow from Cupid hitting its target and the arrow turns into a cloud of hearts and floats into the air. I was looking through John's prj and did not see one. I was thinking it was Gerry and his Christmas animation but did not see it there either. Does anyone remember or could point me in the correct direction? Steve

Hello all This will be my first post and first WIP. The characters name is Snowball and she is my mascot for my website. I plan on doing some small animations of her along with a small film if everything goes as planned. The model is almost complete, all that lacks now are the clothes and the hair. I didn't want to offend anyone so I censored her anatomy for public view. In all other animations/renders when complete everything is covered so I won't need to censor anything Please critique or comment whatever you feel. If there are any suggestions as for clothes by all means let me hear them, the original character was more cartoony and didn't have as much detail…

Hi This is a preview render of something i'm working on. This was modelled and rendered in AM 10.5R I wanted to put the footage on top of a terragen generated animated background but there is no way of tranferring cemara data anymore. So it's on hold for now. Any ideas on how to do this would be much appreciated. Animation preview render Also here's a still I've created using a photographic background, I want this level of realism in animation as well. Any feedback and tip (especially regarding combining terragen footage) are welcome Cheers, Geoff

Started a new WIP post with a more appropriate heading. Picked this old model up and started tweaking again. Here are some quick renders with some color experiments - none of which I like. Also worked some more on the interior - dash, gauges, seats, door panels, center console and stick. The body is undergoing tweaking every time I touch the project. The metal is getting smoother every time. I also reworked the rims of the car, loosing over 500 cps without changing the look of the rims. This was done just by getting more experience in modeling and eliminating what was not necessary. I've started working on the engine compartment and will post a r…

Well, I finally decided to finish this image. I didn't have any time so I made a simple background. Everything was made, rendered, and composited (A:M Composite) in A:M. Except for the blue gradient background, text, and some very minor paint fixes on parts of the constume webbing. I don't really know how to use Composite very well, but I'm fairly happy with my results. Bloom to the spec layer. Another Bloom to the rest. Tinted my ambient gradient. And some other stuff. I probably could have spent a little more time on the pose, but I decided enough was enough and just wanted to get it finished. I also posted this in the Showcase forum, here:…

The ALT snap bias aim feature is such a pleasure to use, I've regained my enthusiasm for an architectural model I set aside in 2009. It's my version of a Hollywood set of the grand old Pennsylvania Station built in New York in 1910 and demolished in 1963. I'm calling it a Hollywood version for three reasons. 1. Since my reference images from books and the Net only have a few readable dimensions I have to make a lot of "looks good to me" guesses. 2. The amount of detailing required for a 100% accurate copy is too staggering so I've simplified it while trying maintain a similar look. 3. The section of the building where people board a train is called the Con…

A few years ago Robert posted an example of texturing of a patch where opposite sides show different materials, textures, etc. I'm not sure if we every found out his approach but for a little while I thought I had it figured out and did some exploration of my own. Here's a very basic example that colors opposing sides of a patch red and blue. The dangling splines are there to provide some curvature on a single patch which would otherwise be straight/linear.

A photographer friend from Astoria, Oregon posted this pic on Facebook a while back and titled it "The Clam Before The Storm". I felt the urge to do a short animation with an idea that immediately popped into my head and scared away the voices for a while. It is my intention to once again prove that even though the animation is crude and amateurish, the clip can still be funny. To Be Continued. . . . .

Hi all I've started up yet another ambitious modeling project. For those of you who remember the "KM Bismarck" project, I can say that this new project is in the same genre. This has been my 'lunch break project' at work this month For those of you who is not familiar with FS Clemenceau (R 98), aka Le Clem, its a French aircraft carrier of the French Navy, serving from 1961 to 1997. Don't ask me why I chose this one, I have no clear answer, other than it is a beauty At this point I've mainly carved out the hull and just started to add details. I got a long way to go before it is finished. I'll probably start making the superstructure within the next few weeks.…

Woo! After ten weeks of toil, my latest animation test is finally ready for public consumption. Yeah, I know. Ten weeks. For 14 seconds of animation. It's kind of embarrassing. The first two versions only took two weeks apiece, so I was hoping this third version wasn't going to take much longer than that. Except first I had to learn about modeling 3d environments. And about lighting. And volumetrics. And walk cycles. And light lists. And the graph editor. And dynamic constraints. And CP weighting. And how to manage a timeline that looks like this: But I saw it through to completion. Hallelujah. And now you can see it too. http:…

Emerald Pictures and Sapphire Animation, both independent production companies made up of completely volunteer workers, are working together to develop and produce "Myrl," a fantasy/adventure epic. We're currently in the development process of everything (and have been for the past year trying to get the story just right) and will begin pre-production in June and hopefully begin animation in the later fall (end-September). The reason I am posting this is because we're currently looking for volunteers for the following: Note: The numbers in the () symbols are how many we need of that type of artist.
