Hello - I created another character for my site - basically for modeling and animating practice. Also, wanted to play around w/ using a decal to control the "hair" color. Anyway, how it turned into a boxing Meerkat, I'm not sure, but it did. He is the 3rd character over from the left on the bottom row. Thanks - Eric www.3dcharacteranimation.biz

How does one animate the effect of fog rolling in from the camera's settings in the choreography. A:M seems to only want to give me fog from the render settings, which as far as I understand can't be animated. I would like to get the "before" and "after" effect as seen from these two images. Thanks for your help!

Haven't modeled anything complex for a while, so been at this One for about 3 weeks now. Figuring at least another week, just slowly tinkering with it on a daily basis. (I'm Not modeling a PS3 Version of the Rifle - Just using the PS3 Image as the basis for a finished Rifle) Here's the "RotoScope" Image being Used - NOT A FINAL RENDER! Here's the file of what I have so far (I'm on Version 14 Now) ->PS3_Rifle_14.prj 3/4 of the way there and still some holes that need filled. So far Only ONE real trouble spot, where the handle goes into the body (5 point patch not rendering properly). When finished: Not Seriously - just an Idea for …

Hi guys, finaly i get to put my first post on here , I have been using AM now For about 7-8 months on and off and thought or was given the idea rather that it would be a good idea to start posting my work up so i could recieve some constructive crit. This is really my first piece and is what i used to discover rigging and poses, modeling etc. Was very exciting for me and has driven me to go on and create other projects which i will soon post up. I finished this one a few weeks back now. I appolagise for the quality of the video, i had some trouble with rendering settings but ive done the best with what video i had, ive decided not to re-render for the moment as im u…

I was inspire by Xtaz's image and desription of Image Based Lighting using HDR images. My results weren't as impressive, but i don't have the patience to wait 6 hours to see how it turns out. I do like how it worked, but I added 2 lights to give the object some shadows. I didn't get shadows from the IBL alone. I don't know if that comes with more passes. Maybe someone can fill me in. Here are the images I did get. I'm showing the fully lit image and ones with IBL only and Kleigs only for comparison. I plan on doing more testing to get IBL figured out better. Any info or comments appreciated.

I'm going to attempt my second real animation. It's going to have a story this time, one about a doodle of a stick figure. But before I do anything elese I need to model a stick figure (shouldn't be be too hard). Oh, and how do I take pictures of my models and everything so I can post them on the forum? Sincerly, Masna

I've been fooling around with several cloud images on a hair material, basically trying to create a face model made of billowy, cloudy material. I have been rendering both in the modeling window and in a choreography and keep getting black "sooty" coloring along with some clouds. I have the transparency of my model set to 100%, so the only thing rendering is the hair material. I've messed around with properties til I've run out of ideas. Can someone point me in the direction to achieve what I trying for? Thanks.

I could make a tut but its too late tonight here is a $1.98 sample done in v13 [attachmentid=15488] I used a pose to turn a cookie cutter map on by changing it from color at 0% to Cookie cutter at 100% The displacemnt and color map by changing the 100% of image from 0% to 100% Turned on the hair material emitter length from 0% to 100% All this with one on/off pose [attachmentid=15489] Could post a simple on/of color decal tut maybe later if there is interest or if Gene wants too . Hello well her a project I'm working on I'm testing out a software that hayvern sent the link to it call Pepakura. I took the skull head from Eugene and exprot the file as a 3ds file save it as skull head. Once the model is save as a 3ds file then open your Pepakura 3 Go to file skull head open it pepakura 3 and this is what you get Once the your 3d model is Pepakura hit the unfold button but first uncheck auto you can manual scale the size of the model its in MM though they got conversion charts online Here what it looks like unfolded. you can see that a lot of parts to be cut out of paper. Hi. I'm quite new to these boards, although I have been meddling with A:M since I first got it back in 1998. Having never been able to draw or otherwise articulate my visual sense of artistry (or lack of same) it was manna from heaven. This female head is the latest of my attempts and is mainly designed to experiment with animation of facial expressions. Ken Baer encourages us to post our work, and I gladly listen to any critique and suggestions this generous and kind forum has to offer. Peter

Here is a new version of the animation I did for the Anzovin Studios' "Setup Machine 2" contest in November. It's basically a commercial showcasing The Setup Machine's rigging capabilities. Toward the end I added a front flip (with a full tuck) for a little extra pizzaz. It goes by fast to stay in sync with the timing of the jumps, so you may need to step through frame-by-frame to appreciate it fully. Lo Res (Quicktime, Sorenson 3, 320x240, 1.1Mb) http://www.scc.net/~mbs/AnzovinContest2_LowRes.qt Enjoy!

Something trivial I'm sure, but how do you make a bulb or any other self-illuminated object give off a nice glow? The pic has the KeyLight on set to 21% with the FillLight turned off. One new light (set to "bulb") is placed in the center of the bulb model with volumetrics On and intensity turned to 100%. The glow shows nicely on the floor, but the 80% transparent "bulb" model isn't illuminated at all. Am I missing something (obviously), or is it not possible to make a light source shine from the center of an transparent object/model and illuminate the object as well as the surroundings? Please help me shine some light on the subject Gotta get out m…

Not sure this is what was asked but I like the effect. Uses a grid with a animated displacement material applied with a little refraction. Actually, it's supposed to look like that... I went through Colin's tutorial, but I used front and side rotoscopes of two different women, one chinese, one japanese. (I wanted her to look asian, but of indeterminate origin). The only thing I'm not quite happy with is the ears, other than that this model went swimmingly. I'm still kind of new to A:M, I've had it for a couple of years, but I've been too wrapped up with a couple of other programs to learn, so I still have a lot to study, but I'm looking forward to it.

well September is nearly over and here is my blog for the month (choose month and select september) http://www.barkerfamily.plus.com/ Its been a pretty tough month as I decided to go and learn Flash as I thought the Flash/A:M combination was something worth exploring. Only today (this morning) have I put together my first movie with these two apps. Its nothing to write home about but as I say the potential is huge. http://www.barkerfamily.plus.com/flash/handshake/index.htm enjoy the blog and the update - feedback as always is very welcome

I was making a small model for a bigger project that I am working on. I did a testrender just to see how the model did turn out. Its a very simple model(s) and a standard AO render, but I thought the result turned out nice, so I want to share it with you guys. I might if I find the time make several more bottles and fill the environment with them, but for now, I'll settle with this render Let me know what you think

as I read through the newton physics and rebuild notes I had a thought. An hour and a couple of old models later I got this. Basically I took simple models and used the rebuild plugin to create panelled versions. I thought it was cool and potentially useful for high tech backgrounds, although it does waste a lot of patches. [attachmentid=14460]

Here's part of what I showed a potential customer. It really pales compared to the work the rest of you guys do, but it performs a very specifc function for the industrial equipment buyer. Most purchasers (VP's etc.) of industrial equipment are not engineers, and have a VERY difficult time understanding CAD drawings. They very quickly understand an animation. I can communicate in 15 minutes what would take an hour otherwise. Remember, most automated equipment STARTS at $150,000 and can easily cost millions, so they need to understand how it will work. This approach works very well. My hope is to continue to build a library of industrial items so …

It's hot out here at LegoDude's college summer camp, so I made this little fan to keep him cool. Set the movie to loop and you too can stay cool! (Unfortunately for LegoDude, when the conference ends, and he goes on stage to close things down, he's going to be melting in the heat, lose his footing, and get sucked into the fan... sort of a LegoDude meets Mr. Bill ending to a fun debut of LegoDude! ) If anyone wants the project, I'd be happy to share. Need to zip together a package so you'd get the decals (cookie cutter and transparency map). This represents about two hours of work, so things like on/off knob and (d'oh!) electrical cord are left to you to do! …
