Hey folks, I'm a medical student at Case Western and after suffering through a neuroanatomy course at the beginning of this school year a programmer classmate and I decided to change the way the course was taught. For those of you lucky enough to have avoided this subject throughout your lives, a med school neuroanatomy course focuses on the spinal cord and brain locations of various groups of nerves that are functionally related. One of the big challenges is learning the clinical consequences of damage to these groups and how those consequences can change depending on where in the brain/brainstem/spine the damage occurs. Right now, the way the course is taught…

I found a good ball bounce tutorial, followed it, and learned a lot more then I expected. I am beginning to break some bad habits, blocking out the animation ahead of time, and manipulating timeline splines. One thing I have noticed, A:M doesn't have spline manipulator handles, how can I get these? Without them spline in the timeline is cumbersome. I know it must be something I have missed. Anyways, here is the ball bounce test. Ball Bounce Tests.mov (Under 1MB)

I was thinking about models and modeling and had a question for the group. Has anyone taken an old model and reworked the Cps to produce a new model. Not added or removed CPs, but just relocated the existing CPs to create a new character. What I'm thinking is that it takes probably as much time to decal, bone, rig, smart skin, etc as it does to build the underlying mesh, so would it be reasonable to take an existing mesh, with all the decals, bones, rigs, etc already set up and reposition CPs to give the model a new appearance. There is always the potential that the smart skin may not act correctly since the CP positions have changed, but most of the rest sh…

Since it is the season... I did this quick and dirty to replace a Festival Of Trees (FOT) graphic that turns out not to be as original as it was shopped to them. My mom wants a video for the big FOT get together with all of the other FOT folks around the country. Still need titles and may shorten, length it. But in the meantime, my new NLE is in and now better supports WMV-HD output and SmartSound. So, Merry Christmas 9MB WMV-HD Christmas Tree

Although I've been reading the forum for quite a few months, this may be the first time I post. (Edite: ok, I got 4 posts, so it's not really the first time... but still, I think this is the first time I post an image) This is the main character from a 2D Chinese RPG game "Sword of Hsuan Yuan" (The Ultimate Sword) version 3 made in 1999 (meaning the original design credit is not mine at all). By turning him 3D and "real-looking", hopefully I am not violating any copyright law. I am thinking of using this picture (or an improved version) to enter the Sci-Fi image contest. Any comments or suggestions are most welcome.

Ever since I saw Lee's awesome Ironman, and then the movie, I've been wanting to model the hero. Here is my start. I don't have much time these days for modeling (heck, I'm a slow modeler anyways) so this will take a bit of time to flesh out. Happy New Year and enjoy.

Hi everyone, I'm having an issue with X file export. here's 2 examples the AM one was exported with animation master, the FM one was exported using Frag Motion. I tried both exports in game engines and the one produced by frag motion works and the one from AM doesn't. One thing to note here is that the X file produced by AM was loaded into Frag Motion then immediately exported to a X file which made it work. What I can tell you about this problem: It is DEFINITELY the bone information that is causing this issue for if I uncheck the bone information section OR export to the older DX7 version (which doesn't hold bone information) it works. I w…

For a discussion on the trombone forum about how to have a convenient practice trombone small enough to play inside a car. I propose to chop the slide to have only 4 (rather than 7) positions and fold the unused portion back up the slide, so that the total length of the horn (and pitch) remain the same.

This is based on sketches my 15 year old couzin drew, she's an insane 2d artist at this age already, i'm thinking she'll be working in the industry in no time. I'm doing this model to try and show her she should get AM and turn her characters into 3D. He's still in progress of course but comments and crits are welcome. Eventually he'll get a nice big blade, and most likely a gun of some sort as well. I think i'm happiest with his gloves as it was rather complex to place the gaps into them. I'm not all that happy with his face just yet. -Ethan [attachmentid=16099] [attachmentid=16101]

Here are links to the full res and reduced res versions of the logo intro animation... The Text and Fonts selected for the intro are temporary and we are deciding what the final font will be, but we are excited with the outcome of the winged skull. Hubukai (John Hubickey) rendered this monster out at full res (3 full days of rendering) and created the video files and is hosting the files! Without him there would be no Dark Skull Productions! I was making a small model for a bigger project that I am working on. I did a testrender just to see how the model did turn out. Its a very simple model(s) and a standard AO render, but I thought the result turned out nice, so I want to share it with you guys. I might if I find the time make several more bottles and fill the environment with them, but for now, I'll settle with this render Let me know what you think

Well, it's showdown time again, and this time 'round the topic was Walking a Tightrope. Yow! Here's what I came up with: http://www.hash.com/users/zachbg/tightrope_sor3.mov 800K, Sorenson 3, 13 seconds. For those not in the know, the deadline for these showdowns (found at digitalrendering.com's forums, reg. required) is four hours, from finding out the topic to handing in the completed animation. My time spent on this was probably three and a half hours, because I had to pick my son up from nursery school halfway through. I wonder if that's a problem on feature films. Comments and crits welcome. As a further interesting point, the modeling of th…

Well, it's been a while since I had any chance to do any modeling, so I thought the best way was to model something I'm really interested in...The Honda Rune. So far I have the back fender, front fender, and gas tank (thanks to help on the main forum). Got a ways to go, but it's coming along. I am basing this off of some press photos (top and side views, but they don't quite match...), as well as a little scale model I have. Someday soon I'll be able to fork out the $25k or so to buy a real one. In the meantime I've been developing hardbags for the Rune, which will be available in less than a month (if you have a Rune...or VTX 1800). Comments are welcome. …

Finally getting back to my Cluedo project, I am near to finishing the Hall scene. The only thing I'm lacking is a grandfather clock that I haven't built yet. The 3D scene itself will be used properly for some short animations, but for my purposes the interactive part will be done in Macromedia Director using QTVR. (Off-topic: for those who don't know what that is, QTVR is Quick Time Virtual Reality. A panoramic wrap-around image is used as the background and by sliding the image left and right it looks as though you are in a virtual scene. Hotspots will be used to represent clues and other things.) What I need to know is how to create panoramic scenes using A:…

Hi all, most of the time i use "am" like "mm" (modelling master), but now i want to dive in the great see of animation. I know it will be hard, but i hope do go to it. It took quite awhile to build an character i would like to animate. Now he is nearly finished, waiting to be rigged and i want to show him to you, wondering what you are thinking about this little fellow. Comments of any kind (no God please) are welcome. I've been playing with the Osprey tutorial from JohnArtbox and am pretty happy with my progress. I still am driving myself batty with getting the lighting that I want (trust me, it's more difficult than lighting a real set!). Of course, the requisite checkered floor has to make an appearance, although I'd like to have a better handle on materials to generate a grungier texture for the floor. I'm experimenting with decals as I can whip up terriffic textures in photoshop, but as for my ability to get them into A:M, well, I'm still in the embryonic stage there. This attached picture is about the 15th generation of the project (thanks to John for some of the models, as w…

Hi. I got this software called VRHotwire that lets you add tracks to QT panos and cubics. It' like Livestage, I think , but cheaper and rougher around the edges. I made a virtual tour with a QT cubic as the main node. I added a sound track and a small animation done in A:M. Comments welcome. Look down to see the animation. Cubic I'd love to hear from someone with Livestage on how it is adding this kind of stuff, and if there is a way to minimze the speed loss when adding animations to cubics.

I just created this head, starting from a lathe and then seeing where it took me. What do you think? Does it look like it will be fine to animate? And what does everyone recommend doing to the top of the head? I just took the top hole and scaled it down, is there a smoother way around this? Also what should I go about doing for eyes? Thanks, Jon cartoon0.tga

I know this is not that good, animation-wise, but I'm learning a lot about A:M by working on this. I build a scene, render it, change something, render it again, add some different materials, render it again, etc... and I'm trying to learn more about about compositing and all that that entails. So it's a good exercise for me. Here's the link to the film: http://www.irish-studios.com/F4andTieFighterMovie.wmv I thought I'd post this just for the heck of it. The audio needs a lot of work, especially the dialogue as it's almost indecipherable unless you know what it says. But if you're interested, the dialogue goes: "Houston, this is Su…
