Something trivial I'm sure, but how do you make a bulb or any other self-illuminated object give off a nice glow? The pic has the KeyLight on set to 21% with the FillLight turned off. One new light (set to "bulb") is placed in the center of the bulb model with volumetrics On and intensity turned to 100%. The glow shows nicely on the floor, but the 80% transparent "bulb" model isn't illuminated at all. Am I missing something (obviously), or is it not possible to make a light source shine from the center of an transparent object/model and illuminate the object as well as the surroundings? Please help me shine some light on the subject Gotta get out m…

I finally got around to making a logo that I can put at the front of all my animations. Hmm, that means I have to make so animations first, but I could always put it infront of the already made tutorial animations?? Ahh well, without further ado, the one, the only............. Hi, The Battleship model needed to be 'special' and I’m not the best at creating neat space ships so the sketch below and model are loosely based on a ship I saw a while back in either Doom or Quake (great sources for that kind of thing). After the screen test I could see some of the texturing needed work but I wanted to get it out for comments. [attachmentid=18013] Concept sketch (scribble) Screen test. http://www.virtualmediastudios.com/battleship.avi The bridge could use more lighting – can’t see all the cool consoles. The patch count is enormous; this is 4 models assembled in the chor... something I learned from C-Wheeler (thanks!). Che…

Hello, We have been busy and I didn't want to post too many WIPs, but I have a few more for you. These clips are just tests to see how the models hold up for animation/rendering. Of course we are rendering everything in HD720, but a few things have to be rendered smaller for testing- (especially those containing multiple volumetric lights). Comments are welcome. Keep in mind that the purpose of these clips are to show the models in lighting. There is one lipsync in there that is incomplete, because I didn't really want to go into simulating the cloth(It's all about the face/the arms are STIFF). Thankyou! Click on the pic! Here are 3 images of a crash case we are working on. It is supposed to be a night scene. We use volumetric lights on the vehicles because it helps indicate the lights are shining. There are also non-volumetric lights to illuminate the road. My question is: How do you eliminate the banding visible at the point of emission? From the head on view (bottom picture) it looks great. (head-on, bad pun ) We are using Volumetrics with Z buffered shadows for render considerations. There was another thread where someone recommended using geometry with transparency and roughness to simulate this type of thing. Any thoughts? Thanks in advanc…

Hello, I've made a few sets for an animation project, and since this is my first time doing this kind of thing, I would like to get feedback (suggestions, stuff you like, stuff you hate). Anything will help. Thank you very much. p.s. the two city areas are supposed to be lit like it would be sunset...if they don't look that way, please inform me of my error. Also, the other images are from inside the mech.

This is a project I've been working on for a friend whose done a short movie. I'm also learning AM as I go so this is my first model in this program and I find the modeling somewhat different from what I'm used to but kind of like it. I have prior experience in other programs.

I've been working on a three minute short for our booth at a trade show next week. My attempts at rendering have all failed, both rendering a QT movie and Targa files. I'm open to suggestions at least in theory but time is extremely short. I'm going to set up a render to an .avi file and let it run overnight. Tomorrow morning I'll know if it's been successful. But I need a backup plan. My back is seriously to the wall and if anyone with rendering facilities can help out a fellow hasher in his time of need, this is the time! I'm flying out of Charlotte NC Sunday night the 11th but I need to have it in time to finish up the sound. It's now 10pm Tuesday i…

How does one animate the effect of fog rolling in from the camera's settings in the choreography. A:M seems to only want to give me fog from the render settings, which as far as I understand can't be animated. I would like to get the "before" and "after" effect as seen from these two images. Thanks for your help!

This is a project I'm working on... http://www.expropaganda.se/Animations/Hit_...Can_Trailer.mov I plan to animate the whole fight, and hopefully add a room for them to fight in. I choose this approach, because I'm doing this as an animation exercise for myself, and thought that if I add the room from the start, I might get bogged done in details... So fight first, then room, lighting, etc. I have no idea if it can be put together in that order, but I suppose it willl be interesting finding out Any thoughs are welcome. MagnusC

Here are links to the full res and reduced res versions of the logo intro animation... The Text and Fonts selected for the intro are temporary and we are deciding what the final font will be, but we are excited with the outcome of the winged skull. Hubukai (John Hubickey) rendered this monster out at full res (3 full days of rendering) and created the video files and is hosting the files! Without him there would be no Dark Skull Productions! (I suggest *right click>"save as"*) FULL RES (HD720) DSPintro (18.8MB) Quicktime (H264codec) FULL RES (HD720) DSPintro (6.71MB) Windows Media(WMV) Comments are welcome, but I doubt we are going to change much.…

Now that I have finally figured out how to post a picture.....I will post my first true model. I did this some time late last year and have had no time do to much more than troll the boards. However, as luck would have it I just ran across a copy of The Animation:Master 2000 Handbook with the CD still in it at a local used book store (Mckays for Will Sutton and anyone else in or around Chattanooga, TN). It was only $6.00. Even though it is for version 8.0 and I am using 10.5, so many of the things that are in there still apply that I feal like it is Christmas. I get to play with my new toy again and actually have a clue what I am doing. Back to my gun. I did try …

Ok, so I've been trying to figure out the best way to animate a chain and sprocket like on a bicycle, but I see no easy way to do this. The easiest way I can think of is to use a path in a chor, and add a bone to each link in the chain that would follow the path. Then, I guess I would have to constrain the path to the sprockets. Please let me know if you have any better way to do this?? Oh, another question...why isn' it possible to add a path in an Action? Wouldn' this be useful? Thanks, Eugene

www.johnaretakis.com HEY- I recently finished a Flash website for a good friend and talented artist, John Aretakis. I am looking to show off my 'Flash-work' and get some feedback from my esteemed fellow Hasher's...who's opinions I respect. John is a mural painter, an art-deco neon electric sign maker, a graphic artist/illustrator, a 2D cel-animator and a 3D hash animator. He's looking to drum-up some work with this site... NEXT---it's high time I redo my own website... it just takes so dang long! I REALLY like the latest version of Flash though, there are some BIGTIME improvements. Anyway, the site is 95% done, so there are some 'dead-ends' here and th…

Here's mine... Render and zipped file. Rename your original 'Default Chor.cho' file to something like 'Default Chor Old.cho'. Then place the Default Chor.cho from my zip file in your Hash Inc\V13.0 folder. I can create this for V12, but I am making this for the new Extra CD and V13 should be a done deal by then. EDIT: 8:30pm 02/16/2006, I updated the zip file... per Ken's suggestions, you can now drop a 7' character in the chor and it will be perfect. defaultchor_timelord.zip

Well, it's showdown time again, and this time 'round the topic was Walking a Tightrope. Yow! Here's what I came up with: http://www.hash.com/users/zachbg/tightrope_sor3.mov 800K, Sorenson 3, 13 seconds. For those not in the know, the deadline for these showdowns (found at digitalrendering.com's forums, reg. required) is four hours, from finding out the topic to handing in the completed animation. My time spent on this was probably three and a half hours, because I had to pick my son up from nursery school halfway through. I wonder if that's a problem on feature films. Comments and crits welcome. As a further interesting point, the modeling of th…

This is my Ship. This image was created in 2002 for the "blue" image contest, but I missed the deadline because I messed up the date in my head by a day. Bummer. But obviously it's an older version of the model (my computer is getting fixed up right now, I'll be able to post some better stuff in a few days), so it's definately come a long way. Let me know what you think (about the ship... the gun and rose were just for added effect, taking into account the name of the contest) OK so the current working/moving features on the ship are: -Landing gear w/ doors that open/close -Pop up weapon systems (it's a fighter, I'll explain what it's for later..) -Belly hatc…

Ok.... Those of you that were following the other thread, I thought I would post the results of all my spline tweaking. after I had fixed the arm, I had noticed that the leg was jacked up too, so I fixed that. There's still a *tiny* glitch at the back of the leg, but the clay shader mostly hides it. I have attached a couple screenshots, I think you will agree that it looks much much better. Hello! Seniors at my high school are required to complete a project for a final grade. It is supposed to occupy over 15 hours of time to create and blah blah blah... I was creating a ship awhile ago (the "Squid ship")..I hadn't finished texturing it or touching up the actions..but check this out...it's supposed to be a spaceship acting as a squid! Squid Push Note: to view you must right click>Save target As>save or Right click>Properties>Copy full address> Paste into address bar> hit go! What I did to achieve: I watch some vids of squids/octopuses and observed the movement and timing..I then took that information and put it into simpler terms (into a cartoony look ship)...If you notice, while the tentacles are going downward you see that they have a slight bend in them for the pressure of the wat…

I was looking through some of my old comics & annuals, trying to decide if anything was suitable for my seven year old (none of it is). There was a pretty good schematic for Judge Dredd's bike, so I started on it. This is the MkI Lawmaster. The Mk2 has cannons. These are the ones from the 2000AD and Judge Dredd comics: the one in the Stallone film is just a disguised Harley, so it has relatively thin tyres. I don't recall the flying one in the film ever being in the comics, but they did start thirty years ago (God I'm old, now) so my memory may have failed me. There are some obvious faults, such as one of the tailpipes going through the rear wheel bodywork, …

had a few free evenings lately and put together a living room mostly of models i´ve made some time ago, tried to fake a radiosity feel, so it would be suitable for animation... this render in 1024x768 took about 50 minutes (16pass) on my 2 year old mac book pro, a vga resolution with 9 passes takes about 15 minutes. a lot of time goes into computing the reflections in the window, for a still it would be no problem to fake it with a decal, but for animation? the lighting setup was a mixture of bulb and klieglights as described in yves tutorial (but only one bulb with only one ray casting shadows for faster rendering), but i mixed it also with heiners skylighter (thanks for…
