I've finally got back to making characters in AM! Here's one I'm using for a client. They wanted a simple flash look and I used the toon render to achieve this. Going to start animating him now. Thanks to Mark S for the rig!

Hello, all. Well, this week's Animation Showdown got me really down, so I decided to cheer myself up with a new head. (Some people say a new brain is in order instead, but I just laugh at them. Hysterically. Until the persons in white coats come...) Anyway, here he is thus far, in a quick turnaround. He's my usual low-patch cartoony fare, but I think he might have potential for the future. I do wonder where to go with him next, as far as clothes and a body of some sort. Right now I'm leaning toward a gas station uniform, but I don't know why. Suggestions welcome. turnaroundhead_sor.mov

Been playing with the toon shader again, definitely more of a inked comic-book style this time. (Been playing City of Heroes) Tomorrow or the day after I'll update my toon-shading tutorial with how to get this look.

I've got a rough WIP for the July 2008 11 Second Club animation contest. I thought that I'd play w/ getting lip synch in Animation Master and submit a Work In Progress. I got two quick responses. I just grabbed what was convenient, Shaggy, and simple enough for me to animate in two days. Any other of the models or rigs that would work better here? I'm just getting started w/ designing and creating the sequence, so the simpler the better. Here is the youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIPw3GFV8z8 thanks, Tim R

EDIT, JAN 22, 2009: The show has now launched! Click the link below to see it on YouTube. WARNING: The content of this and future episodes might be offensive to some viewers. The show has a lot of sexual innuendo, etc. If you like it, please help me out by giving it a 5 star rating! Thanks. ------------------------ Hi all, a couple of months after releasing my debut short film "Gone" (forum thread / ), I'm now well into my next project, the progress of which I will detail in this thread. It's a comedy talk show series featuring original robot monkey characters. The show's host is a bow-tied, somewhat snobby but snappy robot. The perpetual guest …

Seeing how much John Stewart on the daily show works his magic at political humor, made me want to try something while the election process are ongoing. Someone made a really good John Kerry caricature. I was going to see how many of the political figures I can do.

Hi, I'm only charging this female comedian whose in England $200 to put together an intro to her prod cast (first time I ever charge and 'money' for animation work). I took this project mostly so I could track my time and see how my estimate stacked up to reality. Estimate 8 hours/work hours to date 21 and still much to do, LOL. One thing I need to create are 'energy balls'--a special effect--either an animated material or an animated decal (or both). Here's the description: Spheres which are clear energy (almost look watery to give a hint of reflection but mostly clear, yet you don't see THROUGH them to other spheres) and the halo around is an almost fluor…

I was rigging a semi-realistic character when I noticed a lot of talk of shoulder rigs. I thought I would have a crack at doing one myself and so I spent a lot of time looking at myself in the mirror and girating (steady vern; you know what I mean) I have attached an animation of the rig in action. The idea was to get the effect of the arm taking over the movement of the end of the shoulder as it goes up. This movement is independant of the main shoulder movement (where the collar bone moves also). If the character is walking then there isn't much movement of the end of the shoulder but as the arm swings up the two connect. The rig is quite complex …

Hi, I'm starting to get the hang of A:M so i thought i'd go ahead and make my first model. I decided to make a dancing mexican cactus (why, I don't know). I've finished the model and a continueous dancing action. I downloaded a La cucaracha MP3 and then I started a new choreography. I decided to make the camera spin around the cactus while it dances, but I'm having some trouble with that. I made a path consraint to the path and made another aim at constraint from the camera to the cactus. But whenever I play it the camera stays in its default position and on the last frame appears on the path even though my enforcement is at 100%. Lastly how to I take pictures of…

Hello all. I just stopped by to thank the Hash team for creating a great program. I've been using it for several years, but had never really stepped up to create something on my own. But, I finally have, and it's all thanks to AM. I have a dream that fits in nicely with the the whole ' one man, one laptop, kitchen table' idea and I have been working for the passed 3 or 4 months to fulfill that dream. Starting with a script and my laptop, I set out to create my film. So far I've completed 24 minutes and soon will compile a DVD. But for know, I'm completely satisfied in my endeavour. If anyone is interested, I have a trailer on my website at www.animace.biz. I've tried usi…

Hi - Here is the link to the short film I've been trying to fit in around everything else. Things are finally chugging along so hopefully I'll be able to update this site with some regularity ( I'm sure these are famous last words as the year goes into meltdown) - but oh how I will try. Current wildly optimistic projections have me finishing this sometime in the first quarter of next year. Anyway, enough Blah blah heres the link - look forward to hearing any comments. Hello pros, cons and lurkers, I've been tearing what's left of my hair out trying to decide if my choice(s) for my first short short is/are a good one. I had originally decided on 'Donny' and posted him here in the WIP section. Well, as I have decided to learn rigging in a serious way, and have yet to do any real animation, I think I may not be ready for that short. But, I am itching to do a short and figured ... hey, I have this worm character laying around (get it? laying around?) why not design a short with him in mind. So, this is what I'm thinking. This character let's call him HeWorm for now, wants to walk upright. His wife, let's call her Sh…

First we have ElCapitan. . . this is the material that Brian starts off with a lot for his landscapes. You can find it <here> Then we have my favorite. . . The Gneiss material. If you google "Gneiss" you can find all sorts of info on it. <here> Then we have this one Brian called "Doom" which is kind of fun. . . . <here> Then this Cobbled stone one. . . which looks pretty versatile . . . …

Howdy All' So I'm working on a project where I need to simulate sand pouring out into a heap on the ground. Do any of you have a good suggestion as to how best to approach this in Hash? It doesn't necessarily have to look ultra realistic. But the more real the better. Any suggestions. I though of using a combination of dust, animated mesh and particles somehow. But I'm not sure how easy that would be. Is it possible to thicken and texture the fluid system in hash to serve this purpose?

I threw this guy together in v12 over the weekend, and am now going through the laborious process of rigging. He's one of the main characters in an as-yet-unnamed project I've been planning for some time now. ...and after the rigging is finished, clothes. I'm going to try and do all of the characters' clothing with v12 SimCloth. Eventually, he'll use Yves' skin shader, but that's not working in v12 right now. I'm not quite as happy with the body; I was going for "gangly, with poor posture and a pot belly", but it ended up looking like a guy's head on a pregnant woman's body. Hopefully he'll look better with clothes on.

I am working on a simple animation of a hitman-type character. I have the poses worked out and before I go further, I would like to know if they read well enough to understand what is happening. If someone would take a minute to look at the attached animation and let me know if it is clear, I would appreciate it. hitman2a.mov

I finished my GoldSmith beetle model, textured it, rigged it and put it it into a scene. And the render was so stink'n cool (Or atleast that's what I think) I put it up for you guy's to feast your eyes on. I mean if I didn't know for sure that I would break my nose and anything else possible to brake doing a back-flip, I would be doing them all around the room right now. Tell me what you think. I wnat to here your comments and crits. But know that changes won't take place, because now that I'm done with this render I'm moving on to other projects. P.S. This scene was done using one light and no radiosity. Yeah, I can't figure it out either.

While the Hash Fellows attack the subject of variable toon lines from the high ground I thought I'd post some tests I've been working on here. The idea (for me) is to fake the variation of line thickness to achieve a line like that from a brush or pen. I've got some pretty satisfactory results with toon render but won't be able to post them for awhile. This very basic example uses Render as lines on object(s) with no patches. The toon render version uses patches. I expect to post a more complicated character "drawing" soon but have forgotten most of my toon render settings. I had a few renders but haven't the first idea where I put them. The effect l…

I've recently banged out a parody of BigIdea's popular Christian-themed VeggieTales videos, for a local sketch comedy show. I'm a little hesitant to post the link, however, for fear of offending other users. Psychologically, it's very wrong, though there's certainly nothing graphic about it. It deals with the recent church sex scandles here in Boston. Thoughts? Regards- -M@

I'm starting to do some experimentation into the dream sequence for my short film project (storyboard link in my signature). Before I start building I was wondering the best way to acheive certain looks. If you look at this video on YouTube which explains how spacetime curvature effects gravity, there are some parts that represent spacetime graphically as a grid or lines in a matrix. Here's a screen grab: If you want to see the whole clip that includes animation, here it is: I know that Animation Master has an option to render geometry as lines. I had a few questions about this. First of all, I tried a quick test to see if it would work. I selected…

Hey Everyone! been a while since I posted, so I thought I'd show off my newly polished T. rex skull. I started building this way back when, but I just recently got my hands on a great scale model of one, so I thought I'd try to fix it (you can see an older render of it in my avatar). Some things about the render: The model is just under 4600 patches, and this render uses the cool new radiosity features, so there's just one klieg light in it, and it took just over 30 minutes to render on my 2.3 GHz Athlon64. http://www.dinocarl.com/trexskull.jpg Carl

Still plugging away on the blockhead figures. This is the most recent animation test. You'll spot its intention... I begin to realise that I am hitting my limits as an actor ( and the threshold was low to start with ) so I may start to take lessons accordingly. Any feedback on the animation would be most welcomeTest.mov. For me the biggest problem is the mouth shapes. The style of mouth chosen does not permit of enough variety of shapes so I will have to work on that. On a related question to that. It is possible to paste parts of one model into another, eg an ear or eye but, is it possible to paste the mouth poses of one into another if the style …
