Hi all, Long time now, since we had a challenge .... so the idea occurred to me: Why not let`s make some minichallenge for "this time of the year"? Take or build your favourite chara-model, change him into a Santa Claus and do some very small animation with him like waving into the camera, ringing a bell, presenting some gift etc. at best include some gag and well that`s it. Should be fun and not to much work and we all would have some christmasgreetings to send to our friends and also maybe get some christmas props for everybody to use. By the way, somebody has some deer or elk, he likes to share? I would suggest a deadline of 1…

Trying to learn lessons from previous post. This is a bit of lip synch leading towards some animation with a female blockhead. I thought I'd try to get this bit right then start working on the body poses and the overall piece. She breathes in just before starting to sing. Any feedback welcome. regards simonMouth_Test.mov

Hey Rodney So I wonder if you even remember this little projet. You probably already have your own version done by now anyway, but I thought I'd throw mine out there. She's not finished, mind you, but I haven't had time to work on this kind of thing in a looong time. So here you go: [attachmentid=12908][attachmentid=12909] Maybe you can finish up the bits and pieces (armor, rocket boots etc.)Let me know what you think, and I'll mail the .mdl to you. Javier

I've got the animation complete, it runs about 11 minutes long, and is 37 MB in size. I was able to save it using Sorensen codec. You can download it here to see it http://dogst.com/SWimmortal.mov. It's 320x240. It's my voice doing all the audio, I have a couple people who'll do the different voices, I just haven't been able to get them over to record them, but this will at least give you the story and soundtrack. My skill as an animator is limited, so with a couple minor changes, this is how it will look. Let me know what you think so far. Thanks Dan

Here is my attempt at a landspeeder. I had a really difficult time modeling. I still was not able to make it w/o creasing. I did not (and still do not) know how to make the cockpit area without having major creases. For this model it is fine because it is only going to be seen at a distance and for only a short time. I am still learning how to model without creases...I guess it comes with practice....And the usual any comments would be welcome on the model. :-)

So I do a test render of my new steam locomotive and I notice that something funky is happening on the half inch plate under the cab in the shadows (see image). The patch layout for that plate is legal and all the normals are pointing outward. When I built it, I was trying for the fewest patches possible. I took another swing at it without any regard for patch count and came up with something equivalent with only two more patches and a much nicer render. The only real differences are that on the offending plate there are three point patches and the three patches forming the rectangular edges of the central cutout are formed with four, dead end, two cp splines joining the …

If by chance you have an installer for one of those around and can run it... Select a light and hit N for the translate manipulator. Does the Translate manipulator appear correctly? A box with red, green and blue handles on each side and corner, like for any other bone or the camera. and if so, can you screen capture it?

Here is one of a bunch of characters that my uncle had for some kids stories so I thought I would give 3d Coat a whirl for the rough model design. I manually retopo'd the model and exported an obj, brought that into am and with a little cleanup got this. Some small tweaks but already have it rigged. Where I needed hooks I made simple triangles so they were easy to spot.

Helping a buddy at work with a MMORPG; he needed a character artist so I did a quick test for him. Though I code all day now I loaded the latest version of A:M 04' up and cranked away... This render is with no materials or decals (just groups) The concept art My 12 hour attempt Hair and the body armor details (ammo pouches, radiator on the back, etc) are coming after some sleep and a stupid protocol problem at work gets resolved. Hope you like! ~Delaney {the video is DivX; sorry mac people}

I was so inspired by Will Sutton's tree - that I had to give it a go. I had a leftover tree from when I was playing around with Marcel Bricman's Treez plugin - added hairy foilage - (2 emitters, 2 diffuse color decals) - When I rendered - decided I didn't like the colors - went into photoshop - changed to Grayscale, added the mountain horizon in the background - tweaked the contrast - Produced something very unusual for me - not cartoony - not really real - but pseudo-tromp-d'oeil... Will also post the original rendering

Well, I guess the Discovery needs a cockpit, so here goes. Again, it would be nice to have some accurate blueprints to work from, but the model is getting there. Some of this is guess work as the cockpit is not completely shown in the movie. Still have the overhead panels to complete along with the seats and rear wall section. Once the model is complete, it will be posted in the models section to go along with the Discovery model. Al

I was going to wait until she was more complete before I showed her to the crowds, but I'm itching for some input - and she's just so darned cute!! I wanted to do a child for my first head model since their contours are so much rounder and simpler than adults. Now I've got the basic shape, but I find I'm at a loss about how to approach the eyelids and especially the ears. Any suggestions would be most helpful. The model (human) is about 11 years old. Do you think I captured her youthfulness? The decal is from a photo of her, but not the same one I used for the rotoscope. OK, criticize (and suggest) away. B-

I plan to reformat several cartoon characters to perform a marching animation in Hash A:M. This would include characters such as Snow White, Yogi Bear, Fred Flintstone, Mickey Mouse, etc. As I complete the models, I plan to make them available on the Hash site. The first character is Snow White (See attached graphic video and MDL). Because these are at least somewhat based on models from www.models-resource.com, I am relying on permission per the following statement from their FAQ page. www.models-resource.com/page/faq/ ...if your project is 100% free (e.g. a free fan-game or non-monetized YouTube video - basically any project that was made just for the sake …

I just recently bought a 2004 Honda Rebel 250 motorcycle. Sold my Yamaha Vino 125 scooter and am now riding the Rebel. I started modelling the bike for three reasons. The first, is that I am learning how the darned thing is actually put together. The second is that come the winter months, I want to repaint it to make it more visible and distinctive. I also want to try any modifications to the bike first on a 3D model before implementing it on the real thing. So, I am modelling it from the ground up, which is satisfying the first reason for modelling the bike. The 34 Ford I was working on is going to have to wait a while until this project is done. C&am…

I've been working on a toon flower model for the trees with leaves project. I discovered something interesting. You can control hair guides with a pose slider. The model is set up for toon render, but I think I'll be able to set an image for the petals for normal renders. I'll be adding sliders for color, size of petals and for flower growth. Let me know what you think.

I thought about what I could do as a first project, and thought it would be good to make a movie of Jabberwocky - not too long, and I've always been a fan. Then as I went through TaoA:M I thought, maybe just a verse. As I finished TaoA:M, I thought, just a couple of words. So - "BEWARE THE JABBERWOCK!" He's supposed to be from Tenniel's Jabberwock illustration, and, yes, those are socks: He's only got a basic modified 2001 rig, but as he doesn't appear much in the poem, he doesn't need any more. My next move is to try and bake a Darktree onto his skin and change it in 3d Painter.

Hey guys, I've received a commission from a buddy of mine to create a couple classic buildings from Salt Lake. Namely Temple Square. I've got the temple itself built (no textures yet) and just wanted to ask what would be the best way to achieve a granite effect. I don't want to re-decal every inch of this thing and was wondering if I can somehow material-map this thing with a single equally scaled image facing the same direction Then repeat it with a bump map of the same size, etc. Any suggestions?

The Talking Pen says I Love You and being a pen it has already drawn a hearth! I believe it is possible to make stories fast with this character. And using two pens - you can have a dialogue - making a plot by setting up a problem and giving some solution to it. Just that easy! Making a melodrama - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melodrama - with two pens or more and some props for some surroundings and perhaps you can do half an hour show in a fortnight earning some quids... Here is the project file and everything you need for you to download and experiment with yourself! Perhaps some day I will also do a free WINK tutorial - http://www.debugmode.…

I need some help rendering out a high res 1920x1080 scene. The good news is you can have the models I created for the scene as it is for my demo reel. The bad news is depending on how fast your system is it could take 9-15 hours to render one frame. I have about 30 cores rendering 30 instances but its still going to take me 9 days or so to finish. I don't recommend you volunteer unless your system renders Roberts AM Benchtest in less than 12 minutes or so. Any one who renders me 2 frames or more will get a DVD full of AM training Videos in addition to the models in the scene. Attached is about 95% of the scene rendered @ 720x405. to give you an idea. I wasn't sure if this belonged in "Work In Progress" or this section. Since I'm not actually physically working on anything in A:M at this point, I figured this was the better option. If I'm wrong and it belongs in the "Work In Progress" section, by all means kick it over there . So, after reading through the posts in that last thread, I decided that while I wait for my "juices" and inspiration to fully get flowing again in terms of learning in earnest with A:M, that I would start doing some planning for what will be my first full animation with it. I am by no means jumping straight into that project. I'm just doing all the early work that doesn't require any modelin…
