If by chance you have an installer for one of those around and can run it...

Select a light and hit N for the translate manipulator.

Does the Translate manipulator appear correctly? A box with red, green and blue handles on each side and corner, like for any other bone or the camera.

and if so, can you screen capture it?

Wow... v5? how old is that? Do you really think someone has one of those installed?

My first one is v8, and even that is ancient...

What do you need it for?

See you

I'm trying to figure out how long the lights' translate manipulator has been broken. At least since v8.

v5 might be around 1997 or so. I had it but can't find my CD.

I have v6 somewhere...I'll have to dig for it. I think it is actually v6.1L.

Nope, I just remembered, that license got transferred when I realized I had two, so I don't have it now.

A:M 98, 6.0e (right from the install disk).

Thank goodness for virtualization. I hope this is what you were looking for. I just selected the light and hit the "N" key.

Well, that's more than we have now but still odd looking. Does a Kleig, or Sun light have that pyramid shape?

Does it change anything when you use "Global Axis"?

Is "Global Axis" the same as "World Space"? If so, there was a difference:

Sun light:

Point light:

I kept the camera angle identical between the shots, the only difference was World Space off (in the left view) and on (in the right view).

There was no difference in the klieg light. There was just a single blue point on the opening of the light.

Have no real insights to give on this issue but thought I would let you know "Translate" doesn't work right for lights on Macs either. This is how they look with Translate selected. There's never a "Z" axis. Also selecting World Space makes no difference to them.

Left photo, all new lights.

Right photo, default rim

In 11 1/2 years, I never noticed it .... B)

I noticed it...thought it was something I was just missing on setting up lights (a weak point of mine). Good to know I wasn't being a loon about it though!
