Hi I am working on something for fathers Day. I want to make an animation of my dad playing conga drums and singing babaloo if I can finish it in time. My friend jin kazama is making the conga drums. I started the head today. I was just gonna make a simple round head and put glasses and hair on it but my friend jin kazama encouraged me to push it more and I'm glad he did, I am happy with how it's coming. I should be busy learning a software package right now but I wanted to do this. Attached is the head. I will update later.

Before I put in a bug report, I wanted to check to see if others are having issues with hair and ao and version 19. Any hair settings I make to the hair results in a carpet like tender when AO is used.

Been working a lot with video for Christmas gifts for family and got to thinking, Oh ya I bet AM will work with it. I made a few animations in AM, did a green background and then chromakeyed it out in FinalCut. It seemed to work fairly well. What do you all think? Sorry the files are a lil big......... Hi gang, Here's a new lipsync I've been working on. This one has more extreme emotion to show what this setup is capable of. This clip is a render from the action window (Quicktime, Sorenson 3, 1.7MB) http://www.scc.net/~mbs/Yosemite27.mov This one is a wireframe that includes the onscreen interface I use for animating this critter. About 90% of the lipsync was done using the "slider interface" and the remaining 10% was tweeking the individual pose sliders. (DivX 5.1.1, 2.1MB) http://www.mstrohbehn.lunarpages.com/Videos/Yosemite26.avi Let me know what you all think. Thanks!

Well, it's been years, but I finally started on my first female character. Let me state first off that the character I am supposed to be modeling is supposed to be small breasted, but for some reason they got modeled bigger. I am quite serious when I say I tried to model them smaller and ended up with her looking slightly more voluptious. I will be working on reducing the breast area when I make the actual character. This version will be my female base for later use anyway. This isn't done yet so please keep that in mind. I had trouble getting this far with the model. I think modeling only males has hampered me in this area. Comments and suggestions al…

Wow I havent posted here in a while. anywho- Yea, i soo wish i owned this car. Then again, I soo wish i owned a license . but anyways. umm, I've been modeling this off and on for the past 3 days or so, I figured id post it for comments or any suggestions on modeling and such. I still consider myself an amateur, but whatever. Its the 2007 XK Jaguar. I'll try to keep updating it as regularly as I can, but in the meantime here's what Ive got so far. The actual car can be found here: http://www.seriouswheels.com/2007/2007-Jag...io-1024x768.htm

Hello everyone, I haven't been on the forums in a while, except for the occasional lurking and quick troubleshooting, but after weeks of jumping from poly modeling, to C-coding, to flash animation, even to pixel art, I'm back to the Hash forums. Like one of my old projects, Patapon, I'm using 3D splines on a 2D scale. I don't really know if I'm going to do anything with it. Just a quick test: Thanks, Jared

Well, I've got most of the things up on my website up that I want. I just needs some tweaking and a lot more (new) content. I hope to have time to actually work some on my short during the next month, so I expect some new stuff within a month. I guess the address would be good. http://www.tartpi.com/ Feedback is always welcome.

So here's the story... I do these play posters for my brother's community theater down in VA. The latest one is one of my favorites, Deathtrap. So I had originally planned to just do the whole concept for the poster using photoshop and royalty free images from my photo CDs. However during the layout and research stage I totally goofed up. I needed a pair of vintage handcuffs (if you know the play you know why) for the title on the poster. I found the perfect pair... ON THE FREAKING WEB! I used the darn thing through the whole creation all the way to the final and had completely forgotten it was a copyrighted image and I really couldn't legally use it. It was sor…

Here's a preliminary test of one segment of the Christmas animation I'll be doing for the company where I work. This bit will come at the very end but I wanted to get it done early to make sure it would work. This is the material that's being interfered with by the model surface settings that I mentioned in the A:M v15 forum. the colors as they show here aren't the way they're supposed to look. I expect to get that fixed eventually. gifttransformtest_h264.mov

I finally freed up some time in my schedule and began updating the "Ed's head" model for the 2005 CD. I wanted to share my progress and get feedback as I went so here is the first update: project render (the animation is horrible but that's beside the point) My goal before submitting the final model is (as well as general clean up) to include some sliders for the hair style. I have no idea how hard this is yet but I guess I'll find out. But if there's anything else you think might be helpful, let me know. I'll see what I can do before the CD is mastered. BTW, I did the hair after reading through the excellent Colin's Loft Cooper hair tutorial. Go throu…

Hello! Once again it has been a while since I have posted a new project. This one is more of a sketch. The idea came when I was daydreaming in class . Here is where I am at: I am using a z-buffed kleig as the sun light, AO for the indirect lighting, and a few fill lights here and there. Notice the wavyness in the shadows, thats from low z-buffer map resolution. I marked up what I plan to do now: Photoman

Here's something I've been wondering about for 20 years... Could i use A:M to scan a complex model to make a displacement map to put on a simple model and give it the shape of the complex model? In this test case I used a surface constraint to measure the difference in radius between the left shape and the right one. With some text editing and spreadsheet jiggling I made a bitmap out of that data and applied that to the simple shape on the right. The "scan" was very lo res, just 30 pixels around the perimeter, and it has a glitch in it, but the basic concept worked. If I could streamline and automate the workflow a bit, the scans could be very high res and work in al…

Hope the attachement uploads....... please forgive me if it doesn't as this is my first attempt on this forum. [attachmentid=11245] I am using Roger Reynolds surface settings to check the surface for problems. This was modelled in 8.5 and then have started tweaking with the 2004 version of v11. Once again, I am really sorry if I wasted your time and the attachement didn't load. Opinions and feedback would be appreciated.

I was playing around in AM saturday night and just got an inkling to make this just to see how close I could model a realistic one and a couple of hours later I had this. In AM it's a breeze. I'll be getting his eye's and dentures in soon and decaling. I have a little bit of smoothing to do yet I figure it'll be fairly easy to rig. Any body got any tips on how to create "murky" water.

well guys...I've decided to add another character to the scope bot crew (that one robot who right now is frozen in front of the plank it just rolled over) This time, I'm actually using modeling techniques (making holes, 5 pt. patches, Porcelain, spline continuity, hooks, etc.) Check it out so far! I'm still trying to figure out with the style of the legs, arms and head will be. I want them to be somewhat related to the look of the scope bot. here it is so far

Sorry, no v11 hair or jiggly boobs here... just some plastic. I made this object several months ago for a Modeling Showdown but had to experiment with lighting quite a bit after that to make a nice render of it. Lots of specular-only lights. It's not an original design, it's modeled after one I have. Any ideas on a better way to do it?

Thought I'd post a thread here since the NX-03 is still a work in progress. I tried to use several different techniques in making this model. One of them I used for the first time and now I wonder how many possibilites this opens up - boolean cutters. I used booleans to cut out the shuttle bays on the left and right side of the saucer and again to cut out the sections that have the aft thrusters. The shiny metallic look is accomplished with spec intensity and spec size maps. I was surprised at how much I had to crank up the values to get that effect. There are also several normal maps to get the plate line definitions and of course the model is composed of several …

Here is a director's chair I built the other day. I found a free wood working project with schematics! No really! I used the diagrams for the wood working project and traced in A:M. Cool way to test out wood working projects I guess. I also used Jeff Lee's fantastic web based sky light rig gizmo! That thing rocks! Anyone needs a director's chair I will post it somewhere... it doesn't fold up though. Vernon "!" Zehr

Hi! I recently modeled a stick figure like the one they use at Animation Mentor (that could be a no no, but it's for personal use). I like practicing simple basic animation, that one got longer than what I originally planned. I plan to refine it more, but I am not sure what works and what doesn't anymore(watched it too many times). New eyes welcome. parc_bench.mov Michel

Well, I've tried following David Rogers' tutorial in his book. Here's what I have so far. I'm not necessarily going for 100% anatomically correct, but I would like that muscular/superhero style look. Please, crits are welcome as I'm not very good at the organic side of modeling Fortunately, about a year ago I did this fairly intensive study of the muscular male body for some superhero drawings I was doing, so I have a fair idea of the proportions on paper, translating to 3D is a bit trickier for me

I've shot some video with my daughter in an attempt to master mixing live DV video with AM. My technique: I am having my daughter use a painted popcan the same color as the main color of my CG popcan as a prop. Using BINK/SMACKER tools, I am converting the avi video uncompressed single frame images using the BLEND method of deinterlacing. I then use PHOTOSHOP to fill in the purple popcan the rest of the way (pretty easy with the paintcan and adjusting tolerance along the way since it is the same color). Then, using EYEBATCH, I am changing this purple color to an ALPHA channel. All this is plastered onto a flat grid in AM in COOKIE CUTTER mode. I then have the CG…

Hey guys, I did this animation about a week ago using AMv14. I've tweaked it as much as possible, but something feels like it could be better. Since it was a test animation for a bigger project, I may not do any more tweaks, but I would love suggestions to make the real thing the best it can be. Thanks. Justin NanoWar2.mov

This is my first head and I've done it without any rotoscopes (because can't draw but I can sculpt). I'm nowhere nere finished but I'm not sure the neck lines will work well when he turns his head. Can someone tell me before I continue? He is a superhero that I am creating so I want him to have a strong jawline and stocky neck. I still want him to be cartoony like a buzz lightyear. You may notice he isn't that way right now but I didn't want to continue until I made sure I was on the right track. face.tga

Here's a little character I resurrected from a old idea of mine. He's meant to be pretty simple, but I'm not sure he's going to have much emotion without eyebrows, and with button eyes. I was hoping to use mesh deformers on him for some good squash and stretch, but I haven't had much luck or time to experiment with them yet. comments? matt

Hello, everyone! I'm not sure if this is asking too much, but I'm hoping there's someone out there who would be willing to help for the fun of it, or who knows where I could find one. I love A:M's easy to use choreography interface and finding staging and animating very intuitive, but a modeler I am not. To be honest, between writing the script, teaching myself how to greenscreen, research, etc etc, building a model from scratch is something I'm not having a lot of time left to dedicate to. If you are interested in jumping onboard, please contact me. I'm looking for a realistic as possibe Rebel A-Wing. All the 3DS models out there import very poorly to A:M.

Hey all, I still haven't talked to Martin about this issue, but I figure that I'd switch around some obvious things, if for nothing else than to have a little fun! Here's the corny story I came up with: Cameron Keene, part-time marine, was enlisted by the shadowy group Nightrun Inc. to be the soldier inside their latest covert program, Project Brimstone. Reluctantly, Keene agreed and found himself in the laboratory of Dr. Walter A. Buchanon (later to be his the Keene's evil nemesis Dr. Canon ) being hooked to a rugged suit of armor loaded with every kind of fire arm possible. Wires extruded from his body, sensors monitored his vital organs and soon he bec…

OY! I recently was handed a storyboard for a local retail chain which showed a 'monolithic' gigantic thing covered by a silk-like fabric blowing in the wind. I was at a sales meeting with some of my fellow animators who use Maya. The question was put forth: "Can YOUR software do this type of effect???" The Maya team said they had an excellent cloth simulator but that none of them had ever experimented with it and then put forward a 'pie-in-the-sky' number ($40,000 which meant they didn't want to go near it) to do the job. I said I would like to do a test and after a day of dinks came up with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTE4nCHGwNo This SOLD th…
