Hello I'm working on a still called Dead Man's Hand (pair of 8's, pair of A's and a queen) It's going to be in a small room with a poker table, couple of chairs, playing cards and the character's are going to be the ghost shadow people, Ones going to be hold a full house and the other is going to DMH on the table. Here what I got so far. I'm thinking about having the shadow people having a gun lying beside them but not sure on that one. For the shadow people would you draw a basic shape of a person and then just have completely covered in black smoke something like this For the poker room going to be something small l…

OY! I recently was handed a storyboard for a local retail chain which showed a 'monolithic' gigantic thing covered by a silk-like fabric blowing in the wind. I was at a sales meeting with some of my fellow animators who use Maya. The question was put forth: "Can YOUR software do this type of effect???" The Maya team said they had an excellent cloth simulator but that none of them had ever experimented with it and then put forward a 'pie-in-the-sky' number ($40,000 which meant they didn't want to go near it) to do the job. I said I would like to do a test and after a day of dinks came up with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTE4nCHGwNo This SOLD th…

I'm in the process of assembling models for my first solo music video. At the start of the song I need a barmaid and decided to use "Gala" from the Extra's DVD. The model has extensive attention to detail, but when I render from the backside there is a "strip" anomaly in the decal somehow. Perhaps it was intended that way, but to me it is quite distracting. I could use another model. I could replace the decals on the dress. There are a number of workarounds I could employ, but then I would not know what was happening, or why it was happening, and as always, the goal is to understand more completely this wonderful software. I know there are a number of "get-to-th…

I just modeled one of those lightning balls, I had one in my room and I thought it would be a cool prop. Here what it is if you dont know what I'm talking about... http://storeforknowledge.com/itemdetails.cfm/ID/616 (Lightning Ball) The one I modeled is at the bottom, anyways I have all of the materials and everything on it except for the 'electricity'. What would be the best way to make it? I have been playing around with different stuff and I just want another opinion. Thanks in advance, and hope you like it so far !!

Here is a new model I have been working on. If you have any comments or suggestions for improving it I would love to hear them. I haven't started rigging it yet and all of the colors are just grouped patches so his beard looks a little funky at the moment.

Right before christmas I started this fun but challenging project of modelling the car from the norwegian puppet film "Pinchcliffe Grand Prix". The car "Il Tempo Gigante" is one of the coolest car I know (besides McLaren ), and it is actually been built an fullsize superfast version of this beast. At this point I'm finish with the modelling but do have a lot of texturing to do. Its late now so I'm going to bed, but tomorrow I'll try to upload some references of the car, and some wires of my model. Comments and crits are highly appreciated Regards Stian [attachmentid=13041]

well guys...I've decided to add another character to the scope bot crew (that one robot who right now is frozen in front of the plank it just rolled over) This time, I'm actually using modeling techniques (making holes, 5 pt. patches, Porcelain, spline continuity, hooks, etc.) Check it out so far! I'm still trying to figure out with the style of the legs, arms and head will be. I want them to be somewhat related to the look of the scope bot. here it is so far

Using V15J on an Imac with OSX 10.68 I am having trouble with the alpha channel on renders. This is a Jpg conversion of the TGA file rendered with the Alpha on This is the same frame ( again converted to jpg ) rendered with the alpha off. I rendered some exr sequences at the weekend with light buffers turned on but they are now turned off and the setting are 'normal' I have rendered out sequences with alpha included before and not had this problem, can anyone kindly suggest what the problem might be and how to correct it ? regards simon

This is my first head and I've done it without any rotoscopes (because can't draw but I can sculpt). I'm nowhere nere finished but I'm not sure the neck lines will work well when he turns his head. Can someone tell me before I continue? He is a superhero that I am creating so I want him to have a strong jawline and stocky neck. I still want him to be cartoony like a buzz lightyear. You may notice he isn't that way right now but I didn't want to continue until I made sure I was on the right track. face.tga

I've been trying to animate something like this in 2D, so i made this little study in A:M to better understand the timing and poses. I've written some notes on it so you can see some of my reasoning in working thru it. X = extreme poses B = breakdown poses. These are added after the extremes to add overlap between poses or to make arcs better stuff in green is extra polishing things jumpnotes.mov

Hello, everyone! I'm not sure if this is asking too much, but I'm hoping there's someone out there who would be willing to help for the fun of it, or who knows where I could find one. I love A:M's easy to use choreography interface and finding staging and animating very intuitive, but a modeler I am not. To be honest, between writing the script, teaching myself how to greenscreen, research, etc etc, building a model from scratch is something I'm not having a lot of time left to dedicate to. If you are interested in jumping onboard, please contact me. I'm looking for a realistic as possibe Rebel A-Wing. All the 3DS models out there import very poorly to A:M.

Here's a preliminary test of one segment of the Christmas animation I'll be doing for the company where I work. This bit will come at the very end but I wanted to get it done early to make sure it would work. This is the material that's being interfered with by the model surface settings that I mentioned in the A:M v15 forum. the colors as they show here aren't the way they're supposed to look. I expect to get that fixed eventually. gifttransformtest_h264.mov

Thought I'd post a thread here since the NX-03 is still a work in progress. I tried to use several different techniques in making this model. One of them I used for the first time and now I wonder how many possibilites this opens up - boolean cutters. I used booleans to cut out the shuttle bays on the left and right side of the saucer and again to cut out the sections that have the aft thrusters. The shiny metallic look is accomplished with spec intensity and spec size maps. I was surprised at how much I had to crank up the values to get that effect. There are also several normal maps to get the plate line definitions and of course the model is composed of several …

Once again, I am really sorry if I wasted your time and the attachement didn't load. Opinions and feedback would be appreciated.

Here's a little character I resurrected from a old idea of mine. He's meant to be pretty simple, but I'm not sure he's going to have much emotion without eyebrows, and with button eyes. I was hoping to use mesh deformers on him for some good squash and stretch, but I haven't had much luck or time to experiment with them yet. comments? matt

I got a chance to do a test to try to win some 3D work, I had 1 day to show I can do a pre-designed Female groundhog for the national 'Miss Dig' campaign. A:M got me from spline1 to finished render in about 7 hours... modeling, texturing, rigging (TSM2) animating and rendering(with FastAO). Sure- there's room for improvement, but I think a test like this in 1 day is 'spankin' !!! MissDig_1_Day_TEST.mov

Hi all, I am thoroughly enjoying my A:M apprenticeship and have now completed my final lesson (not yet accepted by my Mentor though). Here it is: http://higginsdj.250free.com/downloads/Lesson6.mov Note that you may have to navigate to my gallery (theatre) page and access it there as 250Free may not allow direct linking (see below) My other efforts can be seen here: http://higginsdj.250free.com/theatre.htm This was by far the most complex animation I have ever done as it comprised 3 Chors (3 Shots) each with up to 5 blended actions overloaded with Chor Action. If nothing else I have learnt a lot about blending actions in A:M http://higginsdj.…

Building a bathroom for a short animation piece. Still plenty of work to do--the stalls don't even have toilets in them yet, among other things. Not really going for photorealism here; I'll be blurring and re-touching the finished render in Photoshop to create a "painted" backdrop for my toon characters.

this is the continuation of this topic I can't open a new poll in it then I had to create this new topic thanks for voting ... Well, you had 2 weeks for voting. The choice car to be modeled was the BMW 7 Sedan. I posted a new poll, regarding of the value to be paid for the tutorial. Your answer is quite important. The modeling of a basic mech model, in a direct way, uses all the beginnigs that are used in an advanced mech model. You understanding how works the parts and splines, you will be apt to model any type of car... The tutorial will cover : - Modeling - Texturing - Lighting

I'm working on a continuous 2 min. "shot from a drone" clip of my locomotive traveling for 1 mi.(1.6 km) to check for smoke and steam dynamics/densities and various lo-res cheats on the stone ballast that embeds the railroad tracks. It begins as a long shot, moving to a close-up and ending as a "running along beside" medium shot. The surrounding countryside is made up of twenty-one instances of the same one tenth of a square mile mesh arrayed along either side of the track. To add variety to each landscape instance I plan on applying a different pose to each one. The left ten instances shown already have some poses applied. While I was styling another pose, mostly usin…

Hey everyone, It's been a while since I posted anything, but I thought now would be a good time since I'm working in my spare time on something I've always wanted to model, namely a skull. I've already made a T rex skull, but I also wanted to try my hand at a human. I was looking around the various AM resources for a skeleton, because I remembered there used to be one rattling around somewhere - in fact, I think his name was Eugene. When I couldn't find him, I decided this would serve as the opportunity I'd been looking for. I started out with a rudimentary skull shape that took about 4 hours to model. Since then, I've been steadily adding in more detail, which …

I'm tapping into the old caverns of the brain and I think I remember there being a demo movie out there that was on one of the original A:M demo reels called "Blocks" or "marbles" or something like that. I'm working on a Australian Shepherd model and I'm trying to add hair to the model but I'm wondering is there an easy way to control the hair color? The hair lengths isn't right yet either, but that is such a tedious task to adjust so I'm saving that for later. Correct me if I'm wrong or leaving out an option, but I can control the color of the hair either by: 1.) Model Surface patch color. 2.) Surface color of the hair material. 3.) A image in the Hair material. I was hope was that if I decaled the surface with colors I wanted, those colors would translate to the hair color but that doesn't seem to be the case. A bunch of decals with alphas channels to …
