The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.

User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.

Hi to all, I have a problem with AMWeb 15.0b and the SimbiontAM plugin. Changes in the material properties are not rendered in the material preview until I click on the preview window. When the material is already applied to an object, the changes are not visible on the object, until I delete the material and apply it new. Also some tweaks I made on the material are only changed in the material preview, but not at all on the objects surface the material is applied to. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Frank

i have a starship with some round windows around it. i want them to change color using the dope sheet as if the colors were talking. not sure but maybe there is a bug in 15F? it seems to not be able to hold my colors in the poses. im going to try some basic tests to see if just the model that has issues. but if any one has seen this let me know. thanks

I have been on and off the video tutorials for the last 6 months, part of it being my problem to get AM to work. I followed video tutorial http://www.hash.com/ftp/VM/EX13BackBone/ about three times, and found that while I build the model, AM would somehow swap LEFT and RIGHT bones (arms and legs) in the middle of session. After my second try, I realized even if the bones were swapped (reversed), if I saved the model and re-open it, the bones revert back to it's proper orientation. However, when I opened up ACTION mode for each of the three models I built, the LEFT and RIGHT ankle seemed to be stuck in the same motion (when I moved RIGHT foot, LEFT foot would simulta…

A strange problem is occuring when I try to render a QT to preview some animation. Working in 15J on an Imac under OSX 10.56 If I render the view using the Q ( quick render ) option, the image appears. If I try to render the same view to a QT file, I get a black blank. No image. This problem has not happened before. I get the same problem if I try to render a choreography from the camera view. ??? The shadows only option is turned off in the buffers. Hi all, Back to working on the project after too long away from it. I am doing the last bits of cleaning up the rigging on my penguin character, and I have a pose that I have no clue what it does (or was supposed to do). I want to delete it, but can't seem to. If I hit the delete key on the keyboard with it highlighted, nothing happens. If I right click it, there is no option to delete. This happens in both the Properties area and in the Pose Sliders pane. Hello All, I'm running A:M v13.01 on a new MacBook with Intel processor. A:M seems to work fine, as it should. I'm experimenting with HDRI lighting, and was trying to follow the instructions to load an .hdr file into A:M from the HDRI Tutorial thread. It was suggested that the binary .hdr file (I got the "uffizi gallery" HDR file from the Debevec site at http://www.debevec.org/Probes/) should be imported. When I right click on the images directory in the Workspace and attempt Import>Image..., and then select the "uffizi_probe.hdr" file, it says "Unsuppported HDR Format." Hello. I am very new to Animation Master and have just installed version 12.0n on my Windows 2000 PC. I have a P4 2.4GHz PC with an ATI 9000 Pro Video Card, 512 MByte RAM, several large hard drives (as I do some video work on the side). When I try to load some of the models, I get a "Parameter Is Incorrect" message. The same thing happens when I right click on the short cuts in the Libraries window. I can load SCHLITZY, but when I try to load Sir Nigel or any of the other Realistic Actors models, I get the error. I just downloaded and activated v17.0 subscription and the program opened and would let me draw lines, etc but when I tried to open an existing project file from a previous version (v11.0) instead of opening a file from the directory it automatically went to, the program stalled and then crashed. This is the same problem I had with v16.0 last year and never did figure out what was wrong so I went back to my v 11.0 (run as v12.0 with a downloaded patch file from the ftp site awhile back). Hello and Goodday, I am trying to rotoscope a simple vault and I have an image... however when I go through the process to put it into the work place through the rotoscope selection all I get is a white box... So for the time being I am working in v13 until I get my licensing issues sorted out. I thought I would start a goldfish model, something simple to get some practice in and I am happily modeling away and I think to myself "I should save this". So I got to File > Save Project as and I get a dialog with no place to input the name or hit "save". I can't resize it to get those things, either. Any thoughts as to what might be going on? I may be using v13 for a few days yet and don't want to not be able to save my work. I have posted a screen cap.

I'm trying to select just the points that make up the right half of the spline ring where the leg starts. However, when I do that the point right in the middle that I have circled in red keeps getting selected. If I try to deselect it, I also lose the point that is directly to the right of it. Any ideas what I am doing wrong here? I need to get my weighting identical to what it is on the other side.

I'm working on an animation exercise right now, and if I try to just translate the mesh I can move that just fine. If I select the bone that I have assigned to the mesh and hit the "n" key and try to move it, though, not a darn thing happens. I am not sure what I'm doing wrong, I don't think I have anything toggled that I shouldn't. Any ideas?

Hello, I want to do a minecraft animation and I have started by creating a load of grass blocks, when I render them I get lines between the blocks and the textures just don't line up. i would import an action to my newest model in choreography mode and a window pops up and says, "Exception #033. Realtime render. If you repeat this exception please send data and steps to http://www.hash.com/reports Thanks." I'm not exactly sure what it means and I do'n know how to send data that it might not list, and every time my mouse enters the screen with the camera, modle, exe... it pops up again! and that's hard to get away from, can anyone help? thx

Ok, so I have decided that rather than try and tackle brand new material when I'm exhausted at the end of the day, I'm going to try to finish things I'm a bit more proficient at, like modeling projects I've been working on. I only need to do a few more parts for my treasure chest, and it will be done. One of those things is a clasp for the padlock to go through. I'm trying to make a U-shaped piece of metal, and have drawn out my path and the cross-section for the path. When I do the extrude along a path operation, though, I get a strange twist in the object. OK so i was trying to animate the knight to step up these blocks that i put in, i was having a little trouble with moving the bones then on frame 25, shown below, the arm flew out of place and was messed up, also it was saying rotate instead of like moving. can you see how the arm went out of place?

i just installed A:M last night and i'm already having problems whenever i try to shade render a charecter, it doesn't work right. the parts that shouldn't show show, like the toung or teeth, and ther's no hair on the charecter with the entire model looking transparent instead of solidly shaded. also in order to even start A:M i have to have the disk in the computer. i'm wondering if this is normal. and finaly i have no idea how to get anything from the extras dvd. please help

Hi to everyone, I´m completely new to animation:master. I got my A:M last week and today it´s the first day I dive into it. I try to follow the exercises from the manual and got a problem with exercise 4:"it´s a pitch" and the knight-model. I´ve tried and tried, but I can´t get the knees of the knight model to do what I want. They always bend in the wrong direction, mostly backwards but never as they should. Especially when I lower the torso of the knight, they bend backwards, so I can´t pose him with bended knees. The only way to work around I´ve found was to swich IK off, but then I loose all my poses. Hello folks; greetings from Brisbane Australia, I've used Animmaster since V10 (currently V15). The model densities I am now generating exceed the limitations of 32bit OS. The checkdiskCD makes for a portable application that can be tried on various OpSystems. (I use XPSP3 rather Wind7 due to better behaviour from AnimMaster. I can't find a lot of information about the new downloadable application format (or much else that may be related). On the side of each post you can see people's avatar, name, # of post, etc. One of the things that can be there is: Programmer Yes/No If someone puts Yes as being a programmer, what does that mean as far as this board is concerned? I am a programmer at work, but I don't do anything for A:M like write plug-ins or anything like that.

Hello. long time. Have two problem now start. So as I am gradually tinkering with more and more aspects of AM , the idea of starting to focus all my work towards a project idea has come to the forefront. If there is one single thing that I have learned here is planning is so important. It is just such a huge time saver. (what surprised me more than anything was the need to plan modeling) Anyhow, so when you guys are working on a relatively small project (say 30 -60 secs) do you keep everything in one project file? well im underway with TAoAM V12 Yeti and reading the book and watching the videos, i have come to realize something. watching the web videos i see that in the project workspace eg: model, there is an arrow next to it that you click and the properties for this item drops down under the item. but in my Yeti v12 the properties opens up in another window like it use to be in V7 that i was using. so did they revert back to the old way or is there an option that causes the properties to pop down from the workplace items? cheers

OK so i was trying some thing new from the standard and watching my friend play a game got an idea to try and make some form of portal effect just for fun . i crafted a glyph of sorts and tryed to get it to form to the terrain with little effect. i have uploaded the project file itself as its still Farly new . the effect I'm going for is the camera moves to the glyph which then burns onto the terrain below then the portal opens , the first thing that i hit is that i cant get the glyph itself to form to the ground. is there a way to project the glyph down wards so that this happens or is there another way to get something similar. portal.prj

Happy new year everybody. For "good intention" for the the new year I plan to animate more, so here I am at a atarting point again trying to achieve some usable propeller spin.. I did an action for the FW-plane according to the wheelspinvideo-tut , turning quaternian to euler and adding 720 on frame 30 for two turns. So far so good. But the action doesn´T seem to cycle properly (see video) and second, I would like to have a poseslider or handle or such to turn up and down its speed. How can this be done? Any help anybody? Hi everyone, I'd like to know if there's any list, tut or something wich explain the difference between some materials like wood, metal, crystal, etc... in A:M terms like refraction, reflection, transparency, etc... My first steps in differencing materials have been applying decals, but, of course, wood does not reflect light the same as a metal does and a generic comparison list would help a lot. i remember reading somewhere in A:M's tech reference book, the you could assign a prop to a model (but i can't remember what the function was called or what page it was on). that kinda sounds like the 'conform to' function in poser 7 which assigns clothing and props such as swords to a specific part of the loaded character. to make a long story short, how to i assign props to models in A:M? could i do the same thing with clothes as well as props? thanx hisako

Can some one tell me (or point me in the right direction) how to use proxy models in your animations? I believe a proxy model is a low patch/poly version of your more detailed model. I am not sure how you replace the detailed version with the low detailed version and vice versa. Are there any tutorials or documentation on this? HELLO! Well, at first I thought that in A:M there must be some feature that let you have a proyected surface over other surface subordinating the last one to the first one, or something like that... ehm, well, I really don't know if I can explain it in english... but sure you know how NURBS works, isn't? You can have a curve subordinate to another surface so you can deforme that surface and the proyected curve automatically follows it and is deformed consequently... And well, as Spline systems are a little "similar" to NURBS in a certain way... I wondered if I was missing something and that feature can be done or even be emulated in some easy way with A:M, really it'd be …

Hey everyone. Been a LONG time since I was on here. My account must of been cleared because it's been awhile. Anyway, I currently have 14.0. Would it be worth the $300 to purchase the new version? I'm eventually getting a laptop (probably alienware ) that will be customed for this program. Are there significant changes since the 14.0 version? (is there something the matter with the off topic-forum - it only appears occasionally?) this sounds more complicated than it is; made a model, saved it. made others, saved them. started a new model in order to assemble these previous models into one. when assembling, ideas take progress back and forth in basic workflow - i make changes in components and expect them to travel to the end product. and they don't. i've just decaled the headband of a crown, but the headband of the assembled crown didn't update. is this a group dependent thing? = when i initially dragged the "headband" into a new model window, all that comes up is the group "headband"…

When using the rotate tool, it rotates in steps of 5°, is the a key that can override this rotate snap angle? For I'm quite happy with the rotate snap and all, but there are situation I don't want it and I find it a bit to much trouble going in to the settings tab to turn it off.

I would like to have 2 versions of A:M so I am considering buying a used version and paying the $99 for the upgrade. Is this an acceptable approach? As long as I have a valid serial #, is there any issues? I want to have a second machine that I can push my rendering over to while I am continuing to work on my main machine. Thanks.

I need to know if there is a difference between hiding a model vs making it 100% Transparent. I have a rig for a camera that simulates a Jib and dolly. I need to see the jib when setting up the camera moves. But I know that render times decrease when there are less patches or models in the chor. Because the rig will never be seen in the final render I need to find out the most efficient way to make it disappear easily. I could hide the model in the modeling window before I render Or I could make it 100% Transparent. I prefer the transparency method because I can create a Pose to easily turn off and on. I haven't used animation:master in a while, a long while, in fact I can't find my CDs so I soon plan to repurchase (or subscribe or whatever the deal is now), what might have me interested in playing again is this: For about a year now I've been playing more and more with my NVidia 3d vision display. I now own 3 pairs of 3D glasses, so I can use it to watch or show what is on the screen to others. I know for a fact (from memory) that Hash A:M supported 3d *rendering*, that is when I used it a few years ago it supported I think it was the red/cyan 3d rendering so if you used the glasses that came with it, it would display the 3d image though a little discolored. …
