Ok, I seem to have munged up the cp's by the base of the arm/ armpit a bit, but other than that things look ok. I'm pretty happy with the way that I managed to get the hand attached. I think it turned out best. All I have left to attach is the foot and the head, and now that I think I have the hang of things I may change the head slightly. [attachmentid=18354]

This is an outgrowth of an idea I originally floated in this post on the SDK forum. My objective is to create a sphere of randomly distributed stars 10 km in radius, where each star is a one-patch object with a diameter randomly ranging from 7.5 to 30 m. I also want to be able to control the size of all stars simultaneously with a pose slider, to ensure that the stars will always be rendered at about one pixel regardless of the resolution of the render or the focal length of the camera. After Yves put me on the track of a bones-based solution, I first tried to implement this idea in which each star has two bones, one to position it randomly and one to scale it, but…

I know everyone is busy working on the V16.0 mascot but I thought I would give away some more sigraph Hash, Inc. jackets. Hash, Inc. is looking for a new flyer to go along with V16.0 for 2011. Below is the one we are using now. How I think this will work is you can submit your items. Hash, Inc will use either all or part of your design. If Hash, Inc. uses all or part of your design Hash, Inc. will send you a sigraph Hash, Inc. jacket that we have. Sizes are limited. Things I would like to see on the flyer. facebook link http://www.facebook.com/animationmaster Amfilms link Hash, Inc. link Windows logo Mac logo (with out universal binary) 64bit …

A photographer friend from Astoria, Oregon posted this pic on Facebook a while back and titled it "The Clam Before The Storm". I felt the urge to do a short animation with an idea that immediately popped into my head and scared away the voices for a while. It is my intention to once again prove that even though the animation is crude and amateurish, the clip can still be funny. To Be Continued. . . . .

I'm working on a new model and for the life of me, I can't get the darktree eye material working properly in v11.1f. As you can see, he's got no specularity highlights on his eyes even though they're on in the material. Is it something to do with the light? Is anyone else having trouble with this material?

My subscription is about to expire and I've begun to think of all of the reasons I should resubscribe. While plunking down $79 for another year of A:M is really a no-brainer (of course I should)... maybe... just maybe... I should consider the reasons I have to resubscribe. So... help me out here guys/gals. Give me a reason (or ten) to resubscribe.

I'm working on an animation demo reel. It was all animated in A:M, so I thought the WIP forum would be appropriate. What I have now is about 5 min in length. I've heard that 2-3 minutes is optimal for a demo reel, so I would like to trim it down to that. I would be grateful if you will look at what I have and tell me what clips you like and what clips ... not so much. Here is the link to a low resolution version with frame numbers: http://www.holmesbryant.com/files/video/Ho...Demo_draft1.mov (27MB) Thanks

Hello all, I'm working on a project called .Hack//Vaccine I was wandering if anyone would like to work on it with me. I have alot of the stuff done all ready, however I wouldn't mind changing that stuff. I'll attach some of the stuff I've already done, I'm working on one of the buildings now. I plan on upgrading my A:M but I'm currently saving up. Right now I have version 10.5 that I don't think is real (was supplied by school). So I may need to buy a new one. (edit: I found out how to to upgrade but I'm $30 short) Attached is the script that I've been using to put my ideas on. New script (June 19) Along with a little thing I wrote HackVaccine_script.doc …

I've always been intrigued by the utility vehicles to which the railroad companies attach retractable flanged wheels to allow them to ride the rails. So when I saw the image shown in the upper left of an actual VW bus version, I knew I had to modify my own microbus model. And inspired by the image of a prototype pickup bus shown in the upper right, I decided to go off the deep end and design a stake truck version. Before I started texturing the finished model I decided it was best to add bones, constraints and finish the movement of the wheels. Considering the time I spent tweaking it, especially the hydraulic hoses, the action is remarkably boring. I suppose in som…

Here's a quicktime link: Christmas Rabbit 640 x 480 (ca.18 MB) A:M was used for all the characters, as well as the table, chairs, candles and the advent wreath. Have you noticed I have a car fetish? But I digress. So this is my 3rd attempt to model this car. It's one of the favorite things from my childhood, I watched all the episodes as a kid. (And I just bought them all on DVD whoohooo!) It has been extremely difficult due to the converging curves. I suppose I could have made the three components of the front end separate, but I didn't want to. I do want to see if I can cut out the hood. I think I did a good job of keeping spline count down - but I'm not sure how good my approach is, but like I said..3rd attempt so, I've failed miserably twice already! I'm trying to keep Colin's lessons in mind on this one. The "m" is…

I decided to take a stab at modeling a 63 vette. So far I just have the dog house, hood, and front tires. It's got a long way to go and a lot of detail missing but it's starting to look like something. I used Photoman's tut on the bike tire to make my tires. It worked perfectly. Thanks.

Over the past week I've been working on a model for a friend to go in his Star Trek fan series, Red Squad. Anyways, I'm at the texturing stage now and figured I'd post what I have. I've beveled everything and for the most part, it's actually all one piece, at least the main hull, saucer and nacelles are.

I like polar bears very much and like that I started to model a male one two days ago. (these guys can be up to 3.60m from head to bottom... don't wanna fight with one ) Today I am close to start texturing (he still needs claws and teeth) but before I do that, I wanted to know if someone has advises for him so I dont have to re-texture him later on. A few years ago Robert posted an example of texturing of a patch where opposite sides show different materials, textures, etc. I'm not sure if we every found out his approach but for a little while I thought I had it figured out and did some exploration of my own. Here's a very basic example that colors opposing sides of a patch red and blue. The dangling splines are there to provide some curvature on a single patch which would otherwise be straight/linear.

Thought id out up a little of what im working on. Id like to say right now that im no modeler, hence the incredibly awkward creases and such. Good animation is my goal for this short and i was hoping you people with more experience could give me some pointers and point out things i should change. Anyways, heres a short little sample, 3 MB. www.pallidus.net/dball1 Thanks all, SeanC.

Hi Fellow Hashers I believe this was made with AM because about 5 to 7 years ago I saw a guy demonstrating some AM Technics and he had this or something very close to this on his desktop. Can anyone duplicate this? I honestly don't know where to start. This is such a high dollar look yet I see very little examples of AM user doing stuff like this. AM has had the ability to made impressive caustics like this for years yet it seems like the community as a whole has some sort of roadblock. Would some like to post the settings to create this or a project, or better yet a Video tut that explores caustics further so that as a community we can start using this …

This is more of a spline doodle than a WiP. I started splining without any goal in mind and the next thing I knew I was modeling Tin Woodman. For the animation portion (if you can really call it that) I was focused on two primary things; what expression could I make with solid shapes that don't articulate (i.e. how much squash and stretch could I get with shapes that don't change) and could I get a part of his neck design to double as a hint of lower teeth when his mouth opened to a full extent. The basic splining followed an attempt to distill Tin Woodman down to the fewest lines possible for easy of drawing (primarily for storyboarding) that I never ended up us…

A character for a story I am working on at the moment, I mixed the head features in Makehuman, saved and imported as .obj/prop, and then retopo'd in a Choreography window of AM. I saw what David Higgins had made with his model and have found it a great way to model relatively quickly and easily. The splines form reasonably smoothly without a lot of editing as well.

I have modeled a ski lift chair attached to a cable. I put in a path thinking i could constrain to it and the bones would carry the chair around the path. My problem is how to make the chair and cable move around the path. I have tried a few different relationship ideas - translate to, spin like, orient like, constraint to path - but haven't got it to work yet. I'm sure it is the wrong combination of relationships. Do i need to use cloth? I admit i don't know anything about cloth yet other than the flag waving tutorial. Here is an embedded project. Thank You. ski_lift_embed_all.prj

The holidays can be rough on folks so... Hang in there. (This is a frame from an animated doodle I recently did named 'Sintercuss'... with the idea being to get an idea moving and take it to it's logical conclusion in one or two sittings. The areas tested included the use of limited (minimal) animation, sound, volumetric effects, text, etc. A few lessons learned include making sure there is enough contrast in the character to read well in a variety of lighting conditions and to plan on the doodle lasting more than 10 seconds because, while certainly not impossible, it's hard to tell a story in less then 10 seconds.)

EDIT: This thread has been continued and expanded in the topic "The Mountain" Just thought I'd post a "thus-far" image of this old man I'm working on. Been really pouring myself into this one; waiting for my best friend's funeral today. All the same, this is something I'm getting pretty proud of. He is part of a short animated film I'm working on with my boyfriend tentatively titled "The Mountain"; it's a metaphor for the end of the journey of life, which he wrote. It includes evil bunnies as the symbol of earthly trials and desires (my idea). Man I hate bunnies. They are so evil. =) Anyhow, here he is...

Here is a very simple female hair model I use for test-rendering female characters. I thought maybe someone else could also use it as a quick and dirty model. It includes the cookie cut decals (2) and both the basic model (the 4 x 4 grid expanded) and a version of the shaped basic model to fit the Hash supplied Gala character. Just be sure to put the cookie cut decals in the same sub directory as you have for the models. It looks a lot better when you apply bump maps and specular maps, but I am usually not concerned with that level of completion when I use it. HashSend.zip

Hi friends Here is my current work in progress. Its the Eldar War Walker from Warhammer 40K. I just love the design of the walker since it got both mechanical and organic feel over it. I bought a model of it which I have sent to a good friend of mine who is a warhammer figure painter. At the moment I only got photos of the unbuilt model itself as reference while modeling. I was not able to find any blueprints of the walker. Also, due to limited spare time, the progress is going a little slow. Anyway, here is what I got so far. Let me know what you think
