I'm working on an animation demo reel. It was all animated in A:M, so I thought the WIP forum would be appropriate. What I have now is about 5 min in length. I've heard that 2-3 minutes is optimal for a demo reel, so I would like to trim it down to that. I would be grateful if you will look at what I have and tell me what clips you like and what clips ... not so much. Here is the link to a low resolution version with frame numbers: http://www.holmesbryant.com/files/video/Ho...Demo_draft1.mov (27MB) Thanks

Have you noticed I have a car fetish? But I digress. So this is my 3rd attempt to model this car. It's one of the favorite things from my childhood, I watched all the episodes as a kid. (And I just bought them all on DVD whoohooo!) It has been extremely difficult due to the converging curves. I suppose I could have made the three components of the front end separate, but I didn't want to. I do want to see if I can cut out the hood. I think I did a good job of keeping spline count down - but I'm not sure how good my approach is, but like I said..3rd attempt so, I've failed miserably twice already! I'm trying to keep Colin's lessons in mind on this one. The "m" is…

I like polar bears very much and like that I started to model a male one two days ago. (these guys can be up to 3.60m from head to bottom... don't wanna fight with one ) Today I am close to start texturing (he still needs claws and teeth) but before I do that, I wanted to know if someone has advises for him so I dont have to re-texture him later on. Let me know what you think . See you *Fuchur*

I know everyone is busy working on the V16.0 mascot but I thought I would give away some more sigraph Hash, Inc. jackets. Hash, Inc. is looking for a new flyer to go along with V16.0 for 2011. Below is the one we are using now. How I think this will work is you can submit your items. Hash, Inc will use either all or part of your design. If Hash, Inc. uses all or part of your design Hash, Inc. will send you a sigraph Hash, Inc. jacket that we have. Sizes are limited. Things I would like to see on the flyer. facebook link http://www.facebook.com/animationmaster Amfilms link Hash, Inc. link Windows logo Mac logo (with out universal binary) 64bit …

My first dialog test was about tasteful and restrained acting choices. Not this one. I did this last year but I'm only now getting around to trying to light it and add a "background". Before you had to pretend it was night and that the car was moving. The dialog is Frederic March and Myrna Loy in The Best Years of our Lives. The sound effect was taken from The Palm Beach Affair. [attachmentid=20481] Pickupcafe504_h264300.mp4 I never quite got it to look like my "vision" of how it would all work, but I'm pleased with it. Update: I don't want to leave the impression that I did this in one sittin…

Hi friends Here is my current work in progress. Its the Eldar War Walker from Warhammer 40K. I just love the design of the walker since it got both mechanical and organic feel over it. I bought a model of it which I have sent to a good friend of mine who is a warhammer figure painter. At the moment I only got photos of the unbuilt model itself as reference while modeling. I was not able to find any blueprints of the walker. Also, due to limited spare time, the progress is going a little slow. Anyway, here is what I got so far. Let me know what you think

I'm having a MAJOR problem, my color won't stick to the grass. I've followed the "Hairy Grass" tutorial step by step, but when I render, the color won't stick to the grass... May I've pushed a button that doesn't makes decals disappear when rendered? Anyways, here's a picture before the rendering.

Thanks to insomnia I had a few hours free time last night, but not being in the right head space to do Kapsules, I decided to model a simple character. Lots of cleaning up and tweaks to do (back of the neck, thumbs and a face for starters) but I thought I'd post this stage. [attachmentid=11499]

I am experimenting with some of my old animation projects in order to see if adding cartoon-type physics improves them. The attached video is one of several tricks from a project where Eddie and his "family" perform a series of stunts with a basketball. The back flip in real life would be quicker than what I am using here, but I added a little delay where he hangs in the air. Hopefully it adds a little entertainment value to the animation. I would appreciate it if someone would take a look at it and let me know if you see problems with the timing and weight of the characters during the action. eddieSecondPart_reduced.mov

Hi Fellow Hashers I believe this was made with AM because about 5 to 7 years ago I saw a guy demonstrating some AM Technics and he had this or something very close to this on his desktop. Can anyone duplicate this? I honestly don't know where to start. This is such a high dollar look yet I see very little examples of AM user doing stuff like this. AM has had the ability to made impressive caustics like this for years yet it seems like the community as a whole has some sort of roadblock. Would some like to post the settings to create this or a project, or better yet a Video tut that explores caustics further so that as a community we can start using this …

Before downloading to your desktop, and playing the qicktime, remember these commands. For PC users "Cntrl F" for full screen and "Cntrl 0" Zero not the letter O for Half size if the picture is too large for your display. For mac users substatute CNTRL with the Command key. I hesitate to show this clip because its no where near finished and I am not happy with it at all. Not to mention this is one shot out of about 16 and its out of context so it will not be to impressive to you. The shot lacks the render quality/ look that I desire. My inexperience caused me to shoe horn in some AO into an indoor scene and it kind of works but so far I feel a Radiosity look…

I've always been intrigued by the utility vehicles to which the railroad companies attach retractable flanged wheels to allow them to ride the rails. So when I saw the image shown in the upper left of an actual VW bus version, I knew I had to modify my own microbus model. And inspired by the image of a prototype pickup bus shown in the upper right, I decided to go off the deep end and design a stake truck version. Before I started texturing the finished model I decided it was best to add bones, constraints and finish the movement of the wheels. Considering the time I spent tweaking it, especially the hydraulic hoses, the action is remarkably boring. I suppose in som…

I'm doing something a bit different with A:M. I've filmed an actress in front of a green screen, and I'm compositing her into scenes created in A:M. This is the current state of a short prologue to the story. These are videos for the music of the band Gekko Projekt, but the idea is to make them more like a short film telling a story than like a traditional MTV video. I'd love to hear any comments or suggestions you might have. Here's the link. I don't want to go public with it yet, so I've set a password, which is "drpepper" (without the quotes). https://vimeo.com/99576675 -Vance

EDIT: This thread has been continued and expanded in the topic "The Mountain" Just thought I'd post a "thus-far" image of this old man I'm working on. Been really pouring myself into this one; waiting for my best friend's funeral today. All the same, this is something I'm getting pretty proud of. He is part of a short animated film I'm working on with my boyfriend tentatively titled "The Mountain"; it's a metaphor for the end of the journey of life, which he wrote. It includes evil bunnies as the symbol of earthly trials and desires (my idea). Man I hate bunnies. They are so evil. =) Anyhow, here he is...

This is an outgrowth of an idea I originally floated in this post on the SDK forum. My objective is to create a sphere of randomly distributed stars 10 km in radius, where each star is a one-patch object with a diameter randomly ranging from 7.5 to 30 m. I also want to be able to control the size of all stars simultaneously with a pose slider, to ensure that the stars will always be rendered at about one pixel regardless of the resolution of the render or the focal length of the camera. After Yves put me on the track of a bones-based solution, I first tried to implement this idea in which each star has two bones, one to position it randomly and one to scale it, but…

My subscription is about to expire and I've begun to think of all of the reasons I should resubscribe. While plunking down $79 for another year of A:M is really a no-brainer (of course I should)... maybe... just maybe... I should consider the reasons I have to resubscribe. So... help me out here guys/gals. Give me a reason (or ten) to resubscribe.

I started this at the end of my recent thread in "Showcase" but decided to move it into this WIP section instead. I'm working on several new videos for my channel and this is one that is about to begin. I've been wrestling with whether to produce this one first or to begin on one of two other short spoofs. Anyway....this is a Star Wars Themed spoof starring my character Larry. Several drawbacks come to the front in making this though. Here's a sample image of my work so far:

this is my second WIP post, I trashed my old work as without a rotoscope, it's pretty darn hopeless for a newbie like myself to create a human. This time I decided to recreate my favourite Dragonball Z charracter: Vegeta. So the hunt for a rotoscope began! and the journey was long, but Google saved me arse once again (this is turning into a story, but what the heck!). I compared a few side(side views of drawn charracters are really rare, btw) and front pics and I used the ones...I used. and here it is, the start of Vegeta(I know the point is to post atleast almost completet models, but I really need some tips) so here goes:

It's far from finished, as the blue truck needs to be heavily damaged and I need to interview the driver (blue truck) to sind out which way his vehicle spun. Image as a roto for camera. I have modeled a ski lift chair attached to a cable. I put in a path thinking i could constrain to it and the bones would carry the chair around the path. My problem is how to make the chair and cable move around the path. I have tried a few different relationship ideas - translate to, spin like, orient like, constraint to path - but haven't got it to work yet. I'm sure it is the wrong combination of relationships. Do i need to use cloth? I admit i don't know anything about cloth yet other than the flag waving tutorial. Here is an embedded project. Thank You. ski_lift_embed_all.prj
