Hey guys, been a long time since I've posted anything.... still working on that audi model.... Or I should say still not working on it!!! lol. But had an itching to mess around with some displacement maps. Simple torso model with a displacement map and then used again as a diffuse map. 6minAbs.mov Mike Fitz www.3dartz.com

Hello, I tried to put a bump mapping with bake texture to work in 3dpainter. And I also tried using a projection, with the projection, it is correct. you can see that if I use the bake, bump mapping is not correct rendering. we see al the coat of the patch with bake texture. Bake is for me very great to work with complex texture. And if i use normal map the problem is greater

After rigging up one of my character's (his name is Bertram) face using a slightly modified version of Victor Navone's face rig (thanks for sharing Victor and thanks to Shaun Freeman for providing a downloadable example), I wanted to see if the changes I made would work before moving on to other things. At first I just did a bunch of facial expressions, but I found that my timing needs loads of work. I decided to try a lip sync test so that I'd have a guide to go by. I've used this as a way to try to get better at animating, feel free to C&C I'm sure I could use it. Anyway, here's a final render of the test that I thought I'd throw out since so many others hav…

Hey all! So here I am, with 'Stolen Child' well underway and demanding attention, way too much comic and web work that I need to find time to poke at, and what do I do? That's right, I create a new WIP for my 'mood shot' entry in hopes that I might actually finish it one day. I must be suicidal or something... Anyway, 'Longing for Home' has a long way to go. While the all the rough blocking animation is there, and there is enough in place to tell the story, it'll be nice to polish this up into something I'd actually be proud of. Something nice to put up on the website, anyway. I'm also going to be using this as a style test bed for another project that I want t…

I started working on a fan film a while back using Anim8or, a free animation and modelling software program. Due to some limitations in the animation portion of the program, I purchased Animation Master to continue the project. Unfortunately, the models did not import very well into A:M, so I am starting the models from scratch. The first model is the All Terrain Armored Transport (AT-AT) Walker. I am starting with the feet and will work my way up. As I gain more experience with modelling in A:M, I will go back and tweak parts that I am not entirely satisfied with and add detail that I am not quite sure how to do yet. This is the same process I used while learni…

I wanted to model a dog for a while. I was looking on the cd and found the Dalmatian. I started looked at it and I used it as a reference. I have completed the body and I going for a fun loving comical dog. Here it is! Steve Here is a wire frame. Still have to tweak the legs and other areas around head area.

I got a quick gig modeling a statue of Athena. Yippee! The head and helmet is almost done, just have to add more hair and a few details. Then on to the rest of the body. I've spent three days on it so far. I'm going to try to finish this by next Sunday. Wish me luck.

All of a sudden I was having problems rendering TGA decals, using 15.e. I tried everything but kept getting artifacts. I finally installed 15.0J+ and now things are rendering right again. I put jeans and a t-shirt on Knuckles and deleted the underlying body mesh. I think I'm gonna leave him bare-foot and rig his toes while I'm learning to rig. So over the next couple of days I'll be studying up on the 2008 rig.

I have been following the various threads on walk cycles by Robcat and others. I put together the attached walk cycle for a couple of characters. I have looked at them for so long I don't know if they look right or not. I would appreciate it if someone would please take a look and let me know if they look realistic.110416Walk.mov

I know that's a bit vague, but I've never baked hair before. I'm trying to bake the hair (tree leaves mostly) in that opening aerial shot in TWO. It's a big shot and it will take many minutes to compute the particles all the way to the last frame if I'm just scrubbing the timeline, but should baking the scene take much longer?

Well I am back once again. This years video should be a lot more detailed I am hoping but the rendering will kick my butt. But it will be worth it. So i will just keep posting screenshots of stuff i am creating. Just keeping my progress up because i wont show any of my family so i want someone to see my progress and maybe help me out with some advice! none of the lighting is final.. and some stuff wont make final cut because of memory and rendering. It seems appropriate that a new year brings a new model. This one is a PCC (President's Conference Committee) street car from the middle of the last century. The design was the final attempt by all stakeholders in the street car industry to sell a fast, quiet, state-of-the-art vehicle to cities with street cars and withstand the spread of diesel buses. And we all know how that turned out. Once it has an interior, its going to be painted in a scheme similar to the Toronto Transit Commission which had the largest PCC fleet in the world and kept running some "Red Rockets" into the 90's.

Hi everybody. It's been a while since I posted. I was working insane hours at work, blew out my back, and got fired the next day. It was a temp job though, and I knew I would get let go soon. I now have time to work on some stuff some more. This character is my spin on the Draconian from the series of Dragonlance books. Although I have the head done I have yet to decide if I will add the detail that I have in the reference with splines, or if I will try to do it with decals. The patch count is already at over 1200, just for the head, ugh! Let me know what you think about that. The pupil of the eye will be slitted. Right now I am using the eye from my…

Here for people who don't know. His profile is under characters, elric family, then edward. For those who don't know you probably won't be able to find a good pic.

The description pretty much says what I used. It's far from finished, as the blue truck needs to be heavily damaged and I need to interview the driver (blue truck) to sind out which way his vehicle spun. Image as a roto for camera. Yves' light rig, Explode and Newton plugin from yoda64. Had smoke in it but it didn't work out (NR problems). Hello y'all! Been inspired recently to pickup an old project of mine. So imagine a summer day, a breeze whispering to the trees and creating paths through the grass on the hills, gently spinning the windmill that time and nature have left behind. Thats my scene in a sentence. Ive gotten started on the modeling of the windmill. I plan to "try" and create my own procedural rusty metal shaders but may resort to decals or a darktree shader. I will also use hair for the golden grass and leaves on the oaktrees. I may model a barn or some other point of interest too. More coming Photoman

Hi all, About to get started on the next episode of Cheese Wars and since it's been a long time, whipped this little render out just to make sure the guys still worked. For the first time, Cheese Wars is going to be a collaborative effort. We've got a few people signed up already, but if anyone else is looking for something to do, there's always room for more. We still need some modeling and texturing done, mainly props, but the Alien is going to need a makeover too. And you can never have enough animators. Thanks, Gregg

Sure enough, Answers in Genesis like Review 2004, which I produced for them, so much that they have asked me again to produce a video for Creation Museum. My first step was to 3Dize the Creation Museum logo. I have a couple ideas for a nice animation sequence but I'm curious if anyone else has some input.

First of all I must admit that this render is inspired by Fabrice and his keychain. But I hope that you don't consider this as an rip off (even though I used an wooden floor texture). I have been trying to understand radiosity, and its hard but interesting. MUCH to learn yet I went to an store and bought an 5$ toy car and scanned the box, then I created the box in A:M and used the scanned image as an decal. Then I rigged the box to make it foldable. Hope you like it btw: render size: 1280x1024 render time: *coughing*36hr*coughing* Regards Stian Ervik Wahlvåg Image has been updated to final version

My first dialog test was about tasteful and restrained acting choices. Not this one. I did this last year but I'm only now getting around to trying to light it and add a "background". Before you had to pretend it was night and that the car was moving. The dialog is Frederic March and Myrna Loy in The Best Years of our Lives. The sound effect was taken from The Palm Beach Affair. [attachmentid=20481] Pickupcafe504_h264300.mp4 I never quite got it to look like my "vision" of how it would all work, but I'm pleased with it. Update: I don't want to leave the impression that I did this in one sittin…

Ok, so... Humans aren't my modeling forte. Actually, modelling isn't my forte period. But, I have a character, and I know his personality quite well, so the trick is getting him on screen. His name is Peanut Butter. Don't knock it, my little bro named him. He IS modelled after a real teddy bear we have (hence, the personality). This is my first real model, and he needs a bit of work still. (With school and TWO, I haven't had a lot of time to spend on him.) Take a look and tell me what you think. The biggest thing that I've had to fight with is hair. Too much hair, and it won't render (and takes forever to render). Too little, and it doesn't look right. …

I like polar bears very much and like that I started to model a male one two days ago. I have attempted to model a real person. You can see the head only on the first .MOV and then the same model with a torso, etc. in the second .MOV. I modeled the head, hair, and props, and borrowed liberally for the torso from a model called Marie Claire/Sister M that was donated by Klaus-Uwe Schomann. Thanks Klaus. I was not concerned with realism at this stage. I just want to see if the person is recognizable before I go in and clean up the modeling and decals. Does anyone know who it is? I really compressed the size of the video, so I hope it is good enough. F2_2.mov F1_2.mov

[formerly "GeazerBot] I'm dusting off a project I've neglected for over a year. I want to rig him up for animation, but need a somewhat simplefied or restricted motion given how he is constructed. His knee and elbow joints need to rotate about a single local axis as they are simple hinge joints. Anybody know how to restrict the movement accordingly? Same goes for the "toe" joints on his feet and most of the finger joints. Oh, yah...he also only swivels around one axis at his waist as well. All the other joints are ball and socket joints, so they can have a very wide freedom of movement accordingly. http://wjgaylord.brinkster.net/GeazerBot_f-b.jpg …

Needs mucho work - but I like the way it's progressing. Been playing around with creating a model with hair, and trying to get something that might have reasonable rendering times for animation - - so I've been keeping the density low (lower than I'd really like) - And hoo-Boy have I been struggling with the grooming (yikes what a spaghetti nest of string!), resorted to fakey lighting, shadows, 1 pass, etc... BUT this image at 640 x480 rendered in 37 secs! I could live with that...(I'm really really impatient) Will be working on cleaning up the face (too confusing - image wise) - fixing the bald spots... comments welcome

Hi Here's a mechanical spider I modeled. My main problem is having the whole spider in the one 'model'. At the moment I have each leg in a separate 'model' so that I can change the copy/paste things quickly. But if I put the entire spider in the one 'model' it takes about 10 minutes to copy and paste one leg Does any one have any tips for faster copying and pasting or to reduce the amount of CP's quickly without changing the original shape? Comments appreciated

Introduction: I’m remaking an old Christmas video called “Twas the Night Before Christmas” that I did three years ago. As I completed scenes, I thought I would blog them here for general discussion of animated short making and have everyone critique what I am doing. I originally did this piece as a video Christmas card however in my ignorance of delivering video, most of the people I sent it to didn’t have the bandwidth or a powerful enough computer to view it. This year I will make it into a DVD and hope for a wider audience. I started about the first of July and am shooting for completion by December 19th. While I would love a lot more time, I am going to mak…
