This is a low rez render of something I'm working on. I've got a long way to go yet. I realize that. It's basically pre-vis of a quick banking shot of a chase sequence in a sci-fi action adventure project that I've written and am pitching to direct. As of this render, the spider hadn't been fully textured (it is now, but I'm probably gonna have to re do it. ) Also, obviously the lightings not done, etc, etc, but I just wanted to "come out" so to speak and share a little of what I'm working on. I realize it's "just pre-vis", but I want to make it as best as is reasonable considering I'm not Peter Jackson.... yet. Its in the "CG Test Renders" folder of my Yah…

I've got the front part of the bike almost finished, so I thought I'd post some pics: [attachmentid=14390] I'm trying to use the image on the cover of the DVD case as my main reference. I wish I knew how to take screencaps off of the dvd to use for other views. I have some views of the McFarlane model, but it isn't exactly accurate, and its scale is too small compared to the Kaneda figure, so I'm trying not to rely on those too much. This is going on my modeling reel, so feel free to crit the crap out of it.

Hey there, I just finished this animation for the Art of Animation Tutorial. I first did the lipsync (manually...I didn't really like the results from the dopesheet) and then did the rest of the animation in the Choreography. Here is the Hi-res version (about 3MB). Kee Kat Secret Hi-Res And a lower res version (250kb). Kee Kat's Secret I really want critiques/comments on how to make it better. I feel like I am at a point where I can make the characters "move around" but I want to start getting to where I can really make them have a believable performance. Any help is appreciated. Here is the link to the basic lipsync animation...the…

I wanted something different in our band video. There was a piece in the talent show that was not G rated. I wanted to remove it and have fun with it. So, I exported a screen shot, put it in as a rotoscope, added Keekat, and did a voice over (Sound Forge 7 with pitch change). It took a little to get the render settings to work. No shadow yet, but it is not that important on the floor. Thought I would share. Attached is a wmv in a zip. chhskeekat.zip

Hello, I'm testing the 2001 rig of Keekat to see if it will animate well. The attached video is the first pass of keyframes. I blocked out the main poses every 5 to 15 frames at 30 fps. The poses are then locked down by setting keyframes for all active channels on that particular frame. I'll clean it up later, right now I want to be certain of the action itself, not the timing (which will be fixed later) Thus the tail only whips around once, instead of being really alive yet. Lip sync comes last and I plan to do that manually, especially since it's just noises and no words. Of course the sounds are straight off of the A:M CD. There was no cough so…

Hey Guys, I've been trying to upload this TV spot off and on this past year at Hash Films and have been unsuccessful. I just thought I would share it here... Here's the info on this spot and a link to the movie. This commercial has won many awards and is also being repackaged as part of the new Keep America Beautiful campaign for next year. I'm using KenH's Posh car model in my project, and this is the first time I actually create a pose slider that's worth anything With a pose slider I can turn the steering wheel and the front wheels at the same time - How cool is that I know it's probably no big deal to most of you, but it's my first time, so it's like this major revelation to me Steering_Test.mov

Kevin is new character I've been working on. Here's a very short and very rough little animation to test his facial setup - the brows are yet to be rigged. I fancied a change in style and wanted to go for something more cartoony so I set about building my very own muppet. This has been a tinker project for the last month or so with other things taking up the majority of my time so progress has been a little slow. I managed to decypher and implement the bones facial rig that Mr Navone and Mr Freeman have been flaunting. For anyone wishing to give it a go I can only say that: a. it's an absolute beauty b. once you start to build it, it becomes very …

Last night I did a final render of my project and when I played the movie I noticed that one of my characters limbs (left arm) was moved about 5 cm to the right from where it was supposed to be in every frame. Before I composed the final render I rendered it out in shaded mode to make sure everything looked okay, and all was as they should be. I ended up having to move the arm back to it's correct position in every keyframe and also the fingers went all wonky. Thusly I had to re-position all 5 fingers in about 25 keyframes (125 fixes...took a while). I saved the project, then did a render in shaded mode. All was correct. Then I rendered in "final" mode with "shadow…

Talk about getting sidetracked. I was working on the dashboard for my '41 Plymouth when I had the thought that it would look more authentic with a key in the ignition. Then I realized that a single key would look a bit odd which led to more keys with different shapes on a ring and finally a fob. The keys have no teeth since I didn't want to further complicate the models and this lack of detail would unlikely be noticeable in typical shots of the car's interior. The large unassembled image was the test for the textures (all done with Enhance A:M combiners). Why is it relatively easy to make something look fresh-out-of-the-box new or rusty, dirty and decrepit but it ta…

Hello peoples! I have just finished Keystones (Keystone Online Highschool Home Page) AM course. I am just waiting for my last grade. So I thought I would show you what sort of stuff this course has you go through. No videos though. Most are AVI and too big for the forum and my comp won't render MOVs. Most images are frame captures from the animation. The course has all animations on VGA format. Onward! Assignment 1: Introduction and spheres The course assumes that the student has never touched AM. I had some experience so these first couple of projects were a breeze. This one introduces the splines, texturing, scaling, and the chor window. The m…

This turned out way better than I had any right to expect. I'm working on a large, beaux arts style, arch that needs a keystone with a classical human figure carved in it. Looking for inspiration on the Web, I came across a free 3D model of a nicely proportioned and posed female figure, unfortunately in 3DS format. After waiting almost 8 hrs. for it to import into A:M (47,000 patches, 8.3 Mb model) I knew that I couldn't add any new splines to the model since finding patches and aligning normals took a LONG time. All I could do was apply aaver's normal map material and render out a rotoscope. Using the rotoscope as a guide, I built surrounding splinage to smooth…

After several weeks of work, I (with some helpful input from Dushan, my roomie) have finally completed and entered my commercial entry for the Heinz "Top This" challenge. It is done, and I am very satisfied. The music/sound-effects are a combo of stuff supplied by Heinz for the contest, as well as public domain bits, and my own home-grown effects. *whew* You all can view the entry on youtube at... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pj2OMLr0xQ It took remarkably less time than I had intended, as I had blocked out ~2 months for pre-production etc. Wish me luck! I have seen the other entries and I think this really has a shot at the grand prize. (Hopefully …

I'm starting to model Bal Loons throne based on this image: Throne I'd like to try and keep the patch count low so I'm trying render as lines. Should I go this route? As far as I can see render as lines doesn't seem to cast shadows. Also, there's that problem of the thickness changing depending on how far your viewing from. Any recommendations?

So figured I'd add to my plethora of projects, my first attempt at modeling a car! Now I have horrible car sense to begin with and know next to nothing about cars. Despite that however, there is one car in particular that is definitely the coolest car ever. At least in my puny sense of car stuffs. So, I give you the beginnings of my model, the car of the future...can you guess what it is?

This is based off of a beautifully lit photo of model Sachiko Kokubu. I still have more work to do on the hands, face, and cloth wrinkles, but it's mostly finished. The hair, skin, and cloth are all rendered with reflections, though the bump maps on the skin diffuse them a bit. The ribs are the only major area that I used bump mapping to cheat actually modeling the form. As always, any and all criticism is welcome. http://www.angelfire.com/film/noanoa/kokubu.html Noah

Will Sutton's Kong model is a great model. Awhile back I rerigged with the squetch rig, but when I imported the model into the rig, I lost the hair grooming (which is fixed now). Well, I finally came back to it and I redid the hair on the character. Unfortunately the squetch rig is an older version, so I'll rerig again to update it to the newest version once I get the hair right. The original Kong model looked a bit puffed out to me with hair turned on and rendered. So, I made a few changes to the model to suit my taste, most of it was to the hair material. Here's what I have to far.

Hi all, just wanted to share the results of my current project. Color of hair in generated by a bitmap. The Hairsystem is so cool, but after working a while with it, i would love to have som additional tools/options: It would be great to group/hide control splines. Brushing seems to affect only tle last controllpoints on a spline :-( If i highlight a cp in one view and change to another, the selection is gone :-( aside from that ... cool stuff! Cheers Heiner

So I have mostly finished building my fleet of racing jets, and would now like to race them through some large canyons or possibly fjords, with maybe a mountain range thrown in for good measure. The jets should move about 250m/s so the canyon will have to be large indeed. I have my old AM 2000 book, and it mentions rebumpx, but I am not sure how compatable it is with v11. Any thoughts on good relatively recent tutorials on how to build mountains and valleys?

I've been off work the past couple of days with a nasty cold, so thought I would occupy my time with a bit of modelling. Started working on a Lamborghini Gallardo. Not the fastest modeller, but slowly getting there. Having a bit of trouble figuring out how to model the wheel wells without using 5 point patches at the corners (shown in red). Below is a wire frame showing what I have done so far and if anyone has any suggestions, they would be very appreciated. When I complete a 5 point patch at the wheel well, I get severe pinching, which doesn't look all that good on a smooth car body. And at some point, I hope the model will look like the images…

I'm working on a project where I will be using Lambrina (From the extra's CD), giving her creator, Den Beauvais, credit for her creation. The info file does not tell me what version she was created in. She will be in a red dress. My partner in crime, the esteemed Mr. Spleen, is working on the model and exploring the vagaries of cloth simulation. I on the other hand, am approaching things from a different tack. I wish to make a walk cycle of her in the red dress, and intend to manipulate the dress using Smartskin. Which brings me to my conundrum. The model in bones mode shows perfectly good right and left thigh bones. However when I go to create a pose to work …

Hi all! I'm currently working on this landscape illustration for a book cover. There are a couple of problems I'm encountering. First of all, I'm using a hair material for the leaves on the trees, but when I render it out, A:M simply crashes. I think the problem is that I don't have enough system resources. I'm running v11c on a 2.4 Pentium 4 with 512mb of RAM. Anyway, there's still a lot of texture work to be done, and details to be added. The biggest challenge for me thus far, is the leaves for the trees. I must say, I'm struggling with this. The water texture is also another challenge that I must tackle pretty soon. Please let me know what you guys think…
