this is a test for an fx shot. I'm going to add in some lasers, explosions and smoke, etc. But I'm wondering how convincing this looks, before I continue. It's basically just animated photo- manipulation... http://mysite.verizon.net/vze1qub6/sitebui.../bostonufo4.mov Several things I notice: The boats don't move. I'm planning on cutting one or two out and putting them on seperate layers, and adding some rocking. Also I've thought about putting a small flag on the boat in the foreground, so that there's one more element of movement in the foreground. There's something going on with the buildings when the ufo is onscreen. It's got to do with the mo…

here's my latest model of my room. i still have to add a lot a decals to the posters and add some more paintings but at the moment i think it looks pretty good P.S. i know making the edges curved would make it look a lot more real, but that adds twice as many control points to the project and then everything gets really slow. Comments Appreciated

Hi Folks, Just wondering if anyone knew a way to render a model like this. Its a source file for a stereogram generating programme. I think the rule is that lightest values in the pic appear foremost in the stereogram. Maybe there is a way to do it post render... any ideas? Cheers AndyG

I've set up a blog at www.animattic.us to showcase my work and help generate some freelance work. I'll be creating a better site soon with a full gallery and animation as well as stills, but the address will still be the same. I'll post here when the full site is complete. Please have a look. Well, I know that I start on a lot of models, post them in here, get help when needed, and then abandon making, much less thinking about finish them. Recently I got so upset that I erased all my files, models in the works, all the hopefuls I did for two, all my ABC, and TAoA:M. Yeah, that was stupid. Anyways, I started to do this model, after about a week break from A:M. I am working off of two different size rotoscopes, not a big problem, but I need help with this oddly shaped human head. To reassure you, I am not going to abandon this model because I get frustrated, I am going to finish the head, nice and smooth, or ugly and jagged. I need some hel…

This is start of an animation with those characters... [attachmentid=13271] I'll try to keep it simple and snappy So far, I have characters made and rigged (Piglet is rigged with my hack at the Simmons's Squetch rig) I'll probably live dialog out of this one, it will have just the sound effects, and I hope that it wull be ready for the 3'rd Mini Movie contest... Hi all! I love modeling/animating but I never finnish stuff because I come to a point where i realize I'm not good enugh with A:M. So what I ask is this: Say some easy stuff to make! Anything, dosen't matter what is it. Just so I can get a nice touch with the program. (I have done all the tutorials.) And one more thing, is it worth upgrading to V13? I'm running v11.1 now. //Korken

Hi guys, Iv been away recently, busy with university work. I began working with a couple of third year students, helping with their final year films. Its a two minute short set in medievil times - The plague is rife, Death is visiting everyone in the village and the King is next on his list! Unfortunatly, Its not being produced in AM. If it were up to me it would, since this other package is a pain in the rear end most of the time! When It's my turn, I hope to be able to make my film in AM. But - I managed to model the body collector in my favourite proggy though. I exported it as .x thanks to the great obsidion games plugin. Because it was to end up as polys, …

Hey everybody. Whats goin on? I haven't posted much lately, last thing I was doing was working on my "jaguar xk" car but my computer crashed and I lost the file. Kindof a bummer, but I'll get over it. So, I was gettin kinda tired with just modeling and wanted to get to animating. So I made a basic character that'd be pretty easy to animate. Its all rigged and stuff but just with the TSM2 rig (no smartskin or fan bones or nuthin). I figured I'd put it up here for comments and critiques and if you guys want it later I could donate it to the forum or the next CD or somethin. K. Cool. Lemme know what you think. Later-

Hi everybody, My first bigger 3-D Animation job is online now and I am eager to hear your opinions. Its the middle-toonpart of a flash-animation. To view it go to: http://www.vw-polo.de then wait until the "real"-animation of the car has ended. Then you can choose > Helden (heroes ) > Gewinner (winner) > Abenteurer ( adventurer) now you get my toonrenndered animations ... at the end with "nochmal spielen" you can play it again. Great thanks to everybody, who helped me on finishing this job. I learned a lot ;>) Jake

Okay! The guys at Hash Inc. saved my model... but I was in the process of rebuilding anyway. So, here's the progress so far. [attachmentid=15509][attachmentid=15510] 1. The lighting's not right... But I've got to relearn a bit with the switch to v 12 from 11... apparently the lights are brighter now (the render doesn't indicate that until the render is complete and you click in the screen, then it gets washed out. 2. Decaling is accurate and maybe a bit much (higher res than needed). 3. I haven't aged it yet... this is what it looked like new. I've got a roto (but not from this angle) included here as a reference to compare against... (He…

Well, I've jumped from making a decent looking decal of a rivet to a full rivet map. The problem was that in order to get the rivet decal to look as crisp as I wanted in the render, I upped the resolution at which I created the decal considerably. The model is 170' long on the horizontal, scaled 1:1 in AM. The decal map is the length of the model and several times it's height. All in all the map is 2.12MB. I tried resizing the map after I finished with all the rivet placement, but when I applied the resized map to the model, the rivets were noticeably degraded (see second pic). I'm no Photoshop wizard, so I may be doing something wrong. Here are the spe…

I made this a couple of days ago just to try out pose-to-pose animation for the first time. It was a kinda messy attempt, but I learned some from it and hope to use the experience in my next attempts. I'm mainly looking for suggestions/critiques but comments are always nice too. Oh, and its rather rough too... I was just trying to catch the broad motions. Thanks!, --Ross wtw3.mov

Hello Everyone! I would like to share some recent work i have done! I did these three models for a game, but it turned out that Version incompatability halted the process. I do hear that the production is well on its way again. There is a sniper rifle, a shotgun, and a pistol (futuristic). I need to check a few things first, but i would like to donate these to the community, I don't have any use for them, and i am pretty sure that alot of people would like to play with them Ben

And what can you do to avoid it? I've noticed that in a lot of models that I build, I am getting these problems and I am not sure what I could be doing better to avoid it. I don't think I am doing anything strange as I am building these models, but maybe there is something that I am doing that I am not realizing. Seems to me like I'd have to do a screen capture of one of my work sessions for anyone to be able to tell where I am screwing up. I am probably going to try and do the giraffe tutorial, maybe that will shed some light, however----I was making good progress and would possibly like to have a finished dragon model at the end of the day. help........ …

Hello all, This is Simon, president of Small Island Productions and Director of Against The Author. We have been working on a 3D Animated Motion Picture Event since April 2004. I have posted before, yet not often, as I usually am too busy actually working on it. The good news is, we are almost finished, and actually plan on releasing it Winter this year. We recently premiered an Interactive Trailer at the Osceola Performing Arts Center in Florida, in front of over 700 Arts Students from Central Florida. If you wish, you may visit the Against The Author Official Website at www.againsttheauthor.com , where it is also possible to watch the entire footage reel from…

Hi all! This thread will, hopefully, document the development of my series that I've been working on for years and years. I've been drawing these grape characters most of my life and I had a storyline that I tried on many occasions to draw/model and animate. As hard as I tried, nothing really "clicked" with me. Until two weeks ago. I was sketching a grape character and suddenly had a Breakthrough moment when I adjusted the porportions of the generic grape person and had a drawing that clicked with me. And then I had a rush of inspiration of the world that these characters live in and its history. It was as if all these ideas were just under the surface and waiting for…

I really admire the work of some of the artist in architectural and I plan on doing some more tweaking as suggest for the brick. After getting hit by a truck, the chiropractor been really great and I am getting my hands back full time. last week I had 2 more fingers to go, and today feels pretty good. Still have headaches but not unbearable. I am going to be alright. Enough about me! this model nearing 30,000 patches, and I grab the plants from the data CD, and the garabge can as well. Unleash the criticism please. This house has posable garage door and blinds. Furnish dining room and working on master bathroom.

The SSS thread in the main forum raised the classic Jade Dragon SSS benchmark and I needed to take an evening away from rigging and animating, so here it is. I really like this new feature . It's easy to use, relatively quick to render and allround pretty damn impressive. Eventually, I'm thinking I'll add the classic display case surrounds and see how far I can push it as the SSS feature evolves

Hey...just something I thrutogether yesterday for a DVD menu. Reminds me of the old joke..."I spent a WEEK in Detroit one day..." Try not to get mugged while watching this... Of interesting note...other than the Renaissance Center and one or two other building, the whole city is a copy-paste of one model...the 'Ambassador Bridge' is a model I had lying around, as are all the vehicles and other props. I am re-rendering right now to slow it down from 6 sec to 8 sec...plus I populated it a bit more. DETROIT_ZOOM2sm.mov

Looking at Wm.Sutton's Mr.Dodo, in which he used the hair function for feathers, I'm wondering if anyone's used it for masses of vegetaion. Seems an umbrella-like dome could be duped and stacked to form treetops. Smaller ones with dodo-like 'feathers' could serve as bushes.

Using the little Mignola demon faerie, I have an eight-frame wingbeat cycle. I'm trying to build an Action in which he arches his back [chest out] stretches his arms out to the side, brings them front and claps his hands twice. Then drop into the 'ready-set-go' runners position. I want the wing cycle to happen sporadically as part of the warm up...but can't find a way to dupe the keyframes as a group. [in previous apps., I could Select>Alt>and drag copies] You'll see in the timeline where I duped the action one keyframe, one channel at a time. But is there a faster way? Second, when I paste the new keyframe in, it inserts a keyframe in every channel. Then …

I took a very old model and apply to what I have learn from all these years. Rework the mouth for animation, rework the hip area for smoother bending without using so many fan bones. Use TSM2 and weight mover. Use the latest Hair Particle where before she had a mesh cap on. Use simple Dynamic constraint where before there were two aim bone and a spring system. With the later version of Hash AM, I think I have reduce rigging more then half the time and it works better than before for animation. http://www.gentlechifitness.com/images/EJ_walking_chor.mov I haven't figure out how to smooth out the dynamic constraint in a walk cycle? so I remembered I had one of those classic charlie ventriliquist doll thingies in my basement and I decided to try to model it...I'm very proud in the fact I'm still motivated to keep going..usually by now I'd be disappointed in myself cause of ugly creasing, but the only way to get better is to finish a model completely then try to do another one..completely..anyways... Note: in the render w/ out wires, there is ugly and annoying creasing/bumps in the nose and all around pretty much...anybody know why? I have a feeling it's an amateur thing because I notice a lot of other beginners like me have the same ugly, yet tolerable "mesh texture"...anyways..without furthe…

Coming into the last of animating the fish. This one [the big guy who eats everything] needs to have his mouth VERY wide open at the last instant. I have three seperate actions that move him. In each, his mouth moves a little. But when I go into Skeletal Mode at the very last, and drag his jaw down, that seems to over-ride all mouth action in all the actions. [ Everything else, like Fins and Tail were OK.] Fortunately, I could do an un-do and not much harm was done. But for the future, does any adjustment in the Choreography/Skeletal trump any Action?
