I'm starting to do some experimentation into the dream sequence for my short film project (storyboard link in my signature). Before I start building I was wondering the best way to acheive certain looks. If you look at this video on YouTube which explains how spacetime curvature effects gravity, there are some parts that represent spacetime graphically as a grid or lines in a matrix. Here's a screen grab: If you want to see the whole clip that includes animation, here it is: I know that Animation Master has an option to render geometry as lines. I had a few questions about this. First of all, I tried a quick test to see if it would work. I selected…

Here's a comparison for Nancy, of the before and after images when I use the DreamyPhoto effect Photoshop plugin. It slightly zoom blurs a copy of the image, tints it (in this case a soft red) and adds it back on top at whatever opacity you decide. To me it takes away a lot of the hardness and rawness, while retaining the sharp edges of the original image and not blurring everything. This example is from a 1 pass preliminary render (without AA) so that's why the edges are pretty jagged. I can't find the final render without the DreamyPhoto effect. Grr... I'm sure all of this could be done by someone in A:M Composite. But I had already spent enough time on this i…

I had tons of extra time tonight so I decided to finish up my Droid Starfighter, which is to be used int he first action scene from Clone Commander. I used Color, Bump and Reflectivity maps, but I had to use progressive render b/c for some reason, it freezes when I do normal render. Critique is welcome, although we won't be getting this close to it in the finished film.

I have a logo that was created in Photoshop and has a Drop Shadow effect around the CD and the word "METRONOME." I've made a short animation for it, but I cannot get that Drop Shadow Effect. Does anyone have any way of creating this effect in A:M? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-o9rheradE4 Also, if you have any suggestions on how to improve the animation, I would be glad to hear it. Thanks, Nima

Here is a link to a clip for a case I'm working on. This truck driver was pinned in his truck and drown in the process. The pathologist indicated he lived 30 - 60 seconds. Bubbles are all sprites with negative values for gravity The clip is 55 seconds and 10 Mb. I was at a loss as to what to have the poor fellow do for 55 seconds. Drowning Clip David

Hello, We have been busy and I didn't want to post too many WIPs, but I have a few more for you. These clips are just tests to see how the models hold up for animation/rendering. Of course we are rendering everything in HD720, but a few things have to be rendered smaller for testing- (especially those containing multiple volumetric lights). Comments are welcome. Keep in mind that the purpose of these clips are to show the models in lighting. There is one lipsync in there that is incomplete, because I didn't really want to go into simulating the cloth(It's all about the face/the arms are STIFF). Thankyou! Click on the pic! Here are links to the full res and reduced res versions of the logo intro animation... The Text and Fonts selected for the intro are temporary and we are deciding what the final font will be, but we are excited with the outcome of the winged skull. Hubukai (John Hubickey) rendered this monster out at full res (3 full days of rendering) and created the video files and is hosting the files! Without him there would be no Dark Skull Productions! (I suggest *right click>"save as"*) FULL RES (HD720) DSPintro (18.8MB) Quicktime (H264codec) FULL RES (HD720) DSPintro (6.71MB) Windows Media(WMV) Comments are welcome, but I doubt we are going to change much.…

Well, at long last--well, only two days, but that's as long as it took to make the darn thing--our animated entry in the 48 Hour Film Project for Washington, D.C. is available on AMFilms: http://amfilms.hash.com/search/entry.php?entry=744 A larger version (640x480, 33MB) is also available: http://www.shipbrook.com/mpegs/DuckSauce.html Just to remind everyone, this was created from start to finish--writing, acting, modeling, animation, rendering, editing, and music--in about 53 straight hours by a team of ten: six people local to D.C. and four others scattered throughout the Internet. We were given a series of elements we had to incorporate (the ge…

Hello all, it is with Great Pride and Joy that I announce the final version of Duck Sauce ("A Mystery that Squeaks") is now available on A:M Films. http://amfilms.hash.com/search/entry.php?entry=895 [Mod edit: the above AMFilm link no longer works but I believe this version on Vimeo is the same film...] If you don't know the background already, Duck Sauce was produced as part of the 48 Hour Film Project, in which filmmakers, given a genre, prop, character, and line of dialogue, produce a complete short film, from writing to post-production, over one weekend. This version, though the writing and voices remain the same, conta…

Howdy All' So I'm working on a project where I need to simulate sand pouring out into a heap on the ground. Do any of you have a good suggestion as to how best to approach this in Hash? It doesn't necessarily have to look ultra realistic. But the more real the better. Any suggestions. I though of using a combination of dust, animated mesh and particles somehow. But I'm not sure how easy that would be. Is it possible to thicken and texture the fluid system in hash to serve this purpose?

I was digging around the old hard drive and found an old DXF model of "AL". I had played with him before back in the version 8 days, but it was just too much work to remove all the extra splines that resulted from polygon models. Low and behold someone posted a link to "AccuTrans-3D" and I decided to save a quads copy of "AL" and import him and see how much work there was to do. Sure enough it made it bearable. So I've done some significant cleanup. Split his mouthline and given him an inside to his mouth, cleaned up the face, touched up the ears (A LOT) and completely merged his jacket with his biceps and forearms and his pelvis with his thighs and calves.…

Made a proxy rig... all of the bones have dynamic constraints. In the chor I constrained (orient-like limbs/torso-- and the pelvis is translate-like) the rig(main bones/limbs) of the hero character to the dynamic bones of the proxy. This is the result: DynamicHitHardLg.mov

Hey folks... ive been trying all day to make these tambourines cymbals move dynamically with no success... any ideas?? each model has a master bone for animation, with child bones in each cymbal for movement i made a pose with a dynamic constraint for each of these, but they did not appear to animate as well as they should (heaps of intersections etc) would like to try a spring system or something to this effect, but i need assistance to make this happen any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey- Inspired by Joe Williamson's Hunter, I have been trying to get the Dynamic Constraints to work on some parts of my model. Hash has a nice simple tutorial in the online reference but the menu is different from the menu I get in my A:M v11.0o... (see attached illustration for clarity) I am trying to get the 'stiffness' control to work-Can anyone set me astraight on this? BTW- I would have posted this in the general A:M forum, but I see they do not allow attachments there.

Well, since everyone seems to be starting a thread for their own short films, I might as well throw my hat in the ring. I don't have much that's ready to post just yet, so instead, here's a poster I made back in 2000 when I first came up with the idea: And a similar poster I made a few days ago: Boy... things have come a long way! The final film is going to be about 10 minutes in length and I hope to have a trailer finished by the end of this year and the final film completed by the end of 2005.

This one is hard to explain...but imagine that each of the pillars are of different material and density and a huge force comes in from the left side of the screen and the pillars react based on their weight etc. Well I gave each pillar different settings with the rigid body constraint (enforcement) and (bounce ) mainly then increased the dynamic force (gravity) of the chor over time in the x and a little in the z direction this is the results. I know weird but it has a purpose need spell check for topic line...hey its late b2.mov

The starting point for some tests on using HDRI images in AM. Even with this fairly simple image there were a number of pitfalls and workarounds but I think I'm getting it. Am I right in thinking that HDRI images are no good for reflections? I had to tonemap my HDRI and convert it to a 24 bit image to improve the reflections.

The modeling for the upper floor is complete. It was tougher than expected to deduce the third dimension of things based on their shadows so I ended up just making educated guesses. (My thanks to Mark Largent for his link to a building in New York on Google Street View. That was really helpful.) And there's no way I can reconcile the angle of the sign extending from the left of window #3 and the length of its shadow. Hopper more or less got the perspective of every component correct except for that sign. But hey, I'm no artist. I'm sure he had a good reason at the time.

As most of you know, my colleague and I have been working very diligently on ELZ, and despite my breakdown of sorts due to massive discouragements, I am back in the game and for the most part better then ever. The following vid is where we are at today with the opening of ELZ. Now do note, the dedication at the beginning is someone my colleague knows, and I had a lengthy discussion making sure he understood what it meant! Also, the girl is not dead if you are thinking that, because I did. Also, the flaming meteor shot is just filler and thus it is in low quality and not complete. It will be replaced by one or more different shots that don't take as long to render! B…

This was done in V13 Alpha 4... There was a boo-boo when I attempted a 2048x1536 render last night... I'll post both let you figure out which is which. But before you see the finished works, take a look at my project window... note the texture sizes involved here. (And, no, I don't think I can reproduce what happened... I'm clueless. It occured both render to file and in the chor window until I restarted A:M) I will attempt to re-render at 2048x1536 or higher tonight and post the results.

Woo! After ten weeks of toil, my latest animation test is finally ready for public consumption. Yeah, I know. Ten weeks. For 14 seconds of animation. It's kind of embarrassing. The first two versions only took two weeks apiece, so I was hoping this third version wasn't going to take much longer than that. Except first I had to learn about modeling 3d environments. And about lighting. And volumetrics. And walk cycles. And light lists. And the graph editor. And dynamic constraints. And CP weighting. And how to manage a timeline that looks like this: But I saw it through to completion. Hallelujah. And now you can see it too. http:…

Hi guys First of all, thanks to everyone that voted for my entry:) The reason for modeling this car is that it is one of the coolest cars that I know of (next to Il Tempo Gigante). This image is rendered using IBL with HDRI from Dosch Design. The background image is also from the HDRI, only rendered out separate and used as a rotoscope -> frontproject target Here is a second view of the car and a wire. Let me know what you think. Best regards Stian *edit* As promised here is the IBL tutorial:) Keep in mind that I'm not very good writing tutorials, so this is an 'as is' product Hope you'll find it helpful anyway IBL_rendersetup.pdf

I finally freed up some time in my schedule and began updating the "Ed's head" model for the 2005 CD. I wanted to share my progress and get feedback as I went so here is the first update: project render (the animation is horrible but that's beside the point) My goal before submitting the final model is (as well as general clean up) to include some sliders for the hair style. I have no idea how hard this is yet but I guess I'll find out. But if there's anything else you think might be helpful, let me know. I'll see what I can do before the CD is mastered. Heyope, Here's a clip of Edna (aka - Mogina) walking around in circles. The second half has some academic nudity so, if you're upset by that, be forewarned. It's pretty tame, though. Anyhow, Edna was started in v.8.5 and then got abandoned until 10.5. Now I've dusted her off, completly re-rigged her and almost completely re-modeled her. Gave her some do-dads and made some jangly bits jangle (if you know what I mean). She's, more or less, a finished model, if there is such a thing but; if anyone has suggestions/comments on the model or the animation, I'd love to hear them. I hope this link works. My faith in how my ISP public folders work is shakey. I suggest…
