GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).

User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.

I am making a face and made part of the right side of the face and wanted to copy flip and paste it to see what it looked like and I'm not sure why but when I do it makes a copy of partial face in front of it and attaches the tips of the nose... I checked my views and yes I'm in frontal view when modeling the front of the face so I don't know what's happening. I'm very new to AM so if you answer my question, please be as detailed as possible. original face my problem... Thank you guys.

i have made several poses so far on my models, yet if i use more than one that uses the same bone(s), it seems to add them together (ex: a mouth opening with a smile) and makes it look terrible, and the face points and the bones are all over the place. is there a way to use more than one pose in a certain area without this happening?

[edit] I meant IK. I always get them mixed up. I'm so use to just turning on IK that I forgot how to do it on the 2001 rig. I thought all I needed to do was to use a "translate to" and "orient like" constraints for the hand bone but it's not working. After constraining the hands to a null, when I go to move the hips, the hand bone stays locked but the other bones in the arm continue to move pulling the mesh of course. I'm trying to create an animation of rabbit turning to sit in a chair. He's reaching back to grab the arms of the chair to support himself as he settles into the chair. I created a tucan bird model with feathers (hair). Before I play around with it, I wanted to make sure it is possible if I have the bird flying that the feathers have a "blowing in the wind" look. I did the "Waving the flag" exercise about a year ago, so I'm going to run through that again, but wanted to make sure it would work before I put the time into it. I created a character wearing a robe. I gave the character bones. I set the lower section of the robe (the hangy-cloth, skirty part) to the default settings for cloth. I then set both legs to be collision objects. As a test, I created a ten second choreography of the character lifting his left leg. When I right-click and go to Simcloth Simulate, the cloth geometry goes all wonky and I get the following message. System found to be unsolvable. Hi. I won a copy of Animation Master in the Renderosity Animation Contest and received my prize yesterday in the mail. The CD is version 12 which when installed won't run on my computer. It quits unexpectedly on start up. I've tried installing updates versions: 15, 14 and 13: these all start fine but none will recognize my CD to let the program continue. OK this is kind of hard to explain with out an aimated example but when i animate i dont know how to make something to start move from a certain frame. For example. say im animating a guy jumping. when i get to frame 5:00 or so i start to make him go up into the air but when i do this he starts going up into te air slowly from frame 0 instead of a few frames befor 5:00. i dont know how to make it so i doesnt do this?? is there a certain button or mode to make the movement start from a certain frame instead of from the beginning. Also what is the button force key frame can any of you give me what it does and how to use it etc??

I made a copy of my models head to do the hair.(to speed things up) But when I copied it back I lost the hair info. and I can not drag and drop the info. to the main model.

Gang, I recently purchased the ExtraDVD and cannot successfully link the library tothe PWS for drag n drop. I have followed the instructions found at link http://www.hash.com/lib/. They were very helpful. I was able to move the original V11.1 data from the CD and the models, materials and projects all show as expected. I successfully transferred the ExtrasCDVol1 and the folder shows in the PWS and I can drill down to all the great content. Unfortunately this does not work for the new ExtrasDVD. No folder exisit in the PWS area for drill down. Perhaps there is some folder hierarchy which I am not following. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Mike

ok i did a tread post a while ago and got a few helpfull suggestions but unforunatly due to the complexity of the movie im making it was going to be litteraly hours of work ( think 30Plus models fighting over a landscape) so i was wondering wourl there be a way to set a part of a model ie the tracks/tire to change the color of the ground it moves through ?

i bought and installed my copy of AM whislt i Was in my college library on their wifi network, I'm now sat in a different part of the library and the wireless network is not working, not your fault, lol. But when I run A:M I get the error message wrong host for license (-4). why is that, I won't be going home for another two hours yet, do I need to be connected to the net for A:M to work?

i'm just curious; how do you add eyebrows and eyelashes to a character? i've tried using the hair systems but they are to thick or just don't show up in the group (i guess the area is too small; when i apply it to the whole face it shows up then.) or would i use decals? if you use decals, how would you position them correctly on the face? also where would i find eyebrow/eyelash looking images/materials? is there a website that supplies that kind of stuff for A:M? thanx - hisako ps - also looking for skin & hair textures too.

Now, I can call myself a NEWBIE... I have some questions about AM plug-ins. 1. What are those plug-ins that are included in V15? 2. Where can I find more plug-ins if I have to pay for it? 3. Does the V15 support importing the OBJ format (I have made some bodels in from other app)? 4. Where can I find free plug-ins? I am using a model that will need to talk but it has no mouth things in the pose slider or a jaw bone. So how can I make this easy by just adding the voice and the mouth move along with it. And also can I use the model in a movie without dealing with copyright issues if I make it look significantly different.

Hello - I have never really created actions before and used them in animations and I am running into a problem. I created a character and a walking action. I then created a new chor dropped in the character - created a path and put the character on it - and dropped the walk cycle on the character. All that works great, the character walks for 10 seconds and ends at the end of the path. When I go to move the character's bones around from the final walk pose to a standing position it screws up different parts the 10 second walk - depending on what bone I adjusted after the walk. I am trying to get a laser firing effect on a moving TIE. I know how to do it on a stationary object via a path. However I cannot get it to work when the ship moves. I tried making two extra splines coming out of the guns and constraining the blaster bolt to them but i couldn't find any way to constrain it to the splines. Is there anyway to constrain a strait path to a moving object to constrain the bolts too? Any help would be appreciated.

So, I had an urge to do a simple model that quickly grew into a serious monster... I wanted to model a simple stick of RAM for a computer. The first step was to scan both sides of it so I'd have a good reference. Then I thought, I could make this ultra simple and just made a model the same shape as the main circuit board of the stick of RAM and apply the image of the front for a decal and I'm done. I'm wondering if there is a way to import camera data from another program. We're using, primarily, Vue to create a landscape and I would like to be able to insert Animation:Master elements as well. We can export a camera that would work for After Effects, Maya, and perhaps others. I'm not exactly sure how much we can convert the data, so please give as many options as possible for import and we'll hopefully find a medium that will work. Thanks!

Ok to check out the program I bought a subscription. First thing I tried to do was add some actions I got off eggdrops and add them to my library but program does not seem to recognize them. did I do something wrong or is subscription limited to only 3 actions? I put them in the correct folder. also if I create my own actions can I save that to actions? please be kind as this is my first opening of the program and my first questions. forgive me if I seem stupid at the moment. I do have a chor setup containing a dome and a character. I use the dome with an hdr image for reflection (reflection map on a material on the character itself is out of the question). So my problem is this: I need to render an animation with only the character (alpha) eg make the dome cast shadows but not make it visible in the render... Any tips?

I'm making a character walk, and it's not even a very zany walk, but there are certainly times when he's moving forward, and moments when he's recovering from hitting the ground. Problem is, the walk-cycler seems to take all frames as equal parts of the forward stride. This results in some moments that my character slides forward, and others when he seems to moon-walk. Is there a way to vary the forward-movement within a single walk cycle?

Hello, hope everyone is good - it's been awhile since I posted, I have working on teeth animations... getting a bit boring. Anyway, I have a new client that wants his logo merging out of some water, kind of as a fountain... I was thinking I could bring his logo in as an .ai file and 3D it - then place it under the fluids fountain - does anyone have any samples they can show me of a fountain they have done w/ fluids, that would give me an idea if my idea is possible - I hadn't had a chance to play w/ fluids much from when it came out in the new version. Hi! I would like to turn my A:M renders into photographic prints. I'm excited that A:M can render at any resolution (go patches!) so does anyone have any ideas as to what pixel size I should render to approximate a really good 35mm camera negative? I'd like to then take this "negative" and print it out at a photo shop. I'm thinking of prints that would be in the range of FEET as opposed to INCHES, so a 3ft by 5ft picture that you would hang on a gallery wall. Some of the size would have to come from a smaller negative being "blown up." I know that there is a "super 35mm" preset on the camera output options, but would this be good enough to blow up to big format …

Ok, I should have been paying more attention to Dylan at Momentum, rather then dreaming about the beautiful Stephanie Giles ( Work Experience chick - while I was doing my " internship" ) . . .Ahem. Can some one give me a quick break down of key frame animation in AM. For instance when I create a walk cycle according to the AM book, how to I translate this to another action ? Alright, so anyways i was modeling, and ive notced that my Control Points are black, and my lines are white, and this gets insanely annoying, expecially for when i was modeling an eyeball (black and white) lol. Also one other thing, my graph seems to be really small when im zoomed, out. Im doing Excersise 10, the fighter modeling one, and the thing that you have to zoom out far, it just makes the graph looks like very many Teeny Tiiiny small square, and it really gets in the way, does anyone know how i can enlard these graphs?

If I have video footage that involves motion, let's say a pan, and I want to apply this video as the background to my main A:M camera (for the sake of putting things in the right place), is there a way to automate this camera's movement to match the original camera's, so that the scene stays stationary while the camera has a pan?
