Hi guys! I have been away for a while, so I need to catch up :-) I'm preparing a new short film and I will probably use A:M to make it. I'm still using good old v13 (I purchased v14 but I didn't really use it). Is there anything really new in v15? Has anything changed regarding rendering? This new film will be technically much simpler than Chicory 'n' Coffee (I will mostly use A:M for 2D animation- only couple of objects will be made in 3D) so I believe I could do it just fine with version 13... but anyway I would very appreciate first-hand experiences with new version. I saw this asked here quick example model from xtra cd decal on fading card just substitute your brain for the one there ask questions or tell me in I misunderstood or if fade is too quick Basically used gradient combiner to make card transparent with a pose another pigeon brained idea from the tinkering gnome very quick hand scroll to see it better fadeaway.mov

Hi! I finally managed to get settled in with my classes ! So I know have enough time to start a new project! I plan to make a fall scene and maybe transition it over to a Halloween scene.... Here is what I got so far, it is very rough needs some work: The grass needs to be thicker and better distributed and the pumpkin looks a bit uniform. Also the lighting isnt final, its just a single sun-light. C&C Welcome Photoman

Hi all - I've modeled the attached. Nothing too exciting, but it's proving challenging to my rudimentary skills. Thanks to Vern for his help and suggestions so far. Looking for more opinions in the area of texturing. The front view is textured with a simple gaussian blur. The back view is just A:M color right now. Does it look at all like paper (and how would I improve this texture)? Thanks for any input. ..doug

I figured the best way to start in 3D animation is to animate a character that's already in 3D. Johnny here was actually the original concept DNA Productions had for what is now known today as Jimmy Neutron. I based him off the pilot episode design (see my avatar). I want to animate his robotic dog next, and so I was wondering if there was a free dog skeleton lying around that could use to save some time. Maybe on the Extras CD?

I'm working on some 3d female templates, I've been working on it off an on for a while but I'm still not happy with what i have (still much better than what I had before) I'd appreciate it if i got some suggestions as to what to do with the model http://emar0.angeltowns.com/misc/femaleNX53.mdl the hips or the thighs here seem to be too large for the torso, I'm afraid of trying to warp or distort the proportions of the model. I recently had a system and software crash that made the prj file not accessible. Sent the file to the guys at HASH. I then went on to another project. I received an email late yesterday afternoon with the corruption removed and the prj file restored. I did loose two models inside the project but received 90 of the file back. This has caused me to back up files off the system and back up individual models on so on and so on. So thanks to the guys at HASH for the help Steve

Hello all- Just downloaded a new font into my ProgramFiles/CommonFiles/Adobe/Font directory and the new font shows up in Photoshop but is not available for the Font Wizard in AM. Does anyone know where the fonts need to be stored for the AM Font Wizard to use them? Many Thanks! Tom

I used a few materials and change them all with one pose slider just as a test this should point you in the right direction. I'd use a pose with decal switching too johnl3d would have posted sooner but 11.1d doesn't seem to like qt would not save it on my machine eyechange000.mov

I'm working with a small team on a short animation where a character walks through a room filled with obscure objects floating in large test tubes. Based on previous still image work, I immediately thought of using image maps to speed up the production process (since modeling dozens of obscure wispy objects would eat up a lot of time). What I ended up doing was creating two perpendicular planes and mapping them with front and side views of the same object. All looks reasonably well when both planes are about 45 degrees rotated from the camera view but when one of them rotates parallel to the camera direction it creates an obnoxious dark line in the middle of the object. Hey all, Since I've kind of already tipped my hand by showing an animatic, I thought I would share my progress 8 seconds in. As my schedule ramps up, I may decide to cut and run after the first scene (30 secs) is finished, rather than go for the special effects finale at the end of the big rant. Vegeta here is plenty ticked off throughout the sequence to fit the topic. I've been trying to nail down a lot of the skinning issues, and I'm not sure if the face needs more expression (there will be facial close-ups later to concentrate on, and in the framing, I don't know if details can be spotted). Here's a WIP I have of an Industrial Fork Lift. The steering wheel turns the rear wheels, the mast tilts and the forks go up & down. I've got a LOT of work to do massaging the body to get the realism where I'd like it to be. Decaling would help a ton here as well. Technically the mast is telescoping (second and 3rd sections that extend as the forks move beyond the vertical limit of the lower mast section.... whew), but I haven't added those portions yet. I would also like to make the forks spread apart and come together (Real fork lifts have a shift function, to move the forks in tandem, left or right). If anyone is interested I can post the mod…

Well you won't see the space marines till the Image contest but here is his primary weapon - the Boltgun (modified - somewhere between Blur's version and the actual models version) No decals yet - it's all geometry with working magazine and projectiles (ie the projectile and casings are separate geometry) and the casings fly out the ejection port (once I build the appropriate actions) Any comments, ideas for improvement most welcome. Patch count for the gun is 6,380. My marines are 12,000 each - so far (and the gun is a separate model) Wireframe view: Cheers

I just rendered my mini movie that is due tonight and keep getting seemingly random black renders on one character. There are about 5 bad renders in a 960 frame movie. Attached is a picture of one part of a rendered frame and the setting for that frame. I change them, but they change back to nan% when I render. Is there a way to change all of the settings at once for a particular property? I'm on a Mac, running 11.1 (latest version). [attachmentid=14915] [attachmentid=14916]

I've noticed that when two volumetric klieg cones overlap, it produces a harsh dark gray field. Is there any way to overcome this? I was looking for something that would turn off the additive property, but there isn't one for volumetrics.

Here are real-world objects shot against a (poor) blue screen. With A:M Composite it's possible to pull out a matte like this... and use that as a transparency map to remove the background from the original image... and overlay the photographed objects over CG imagery Ta-daaaahhhh! I"ve been wanting to figure out a way to do this in A:M by itself for maybe 5 years now. I'm still R&D-ing this so no tut yet.

I have started rendering our animations. The first picture is from intro chor and the second is from part two. The animation was broken into 5 parts for animating and rendering. The settings are the same in each chor and this was rendered on one machine and then on net render. Notice the inside part of tool box that there is a shadow? has anyone run into this? The first picture was the first chor and the second picture is the from the second chor. All the other chor are rendering with the black shadow on both a stand alone machine or one in the net render farm. Any thoughts????? I needed to show a Christmas present UNwrapping, so first I did the bow unwrap in an action using muscle-mode animation to sort of 'undraw' itself. Once it was gone the ribbons wrapping around the present were free to fall- and SimCloth did the trick with very little futzing. For instance: If I name a circle as pathA, a bowl (rivit) object as object to extrude onto pathA, can I control the orientation of the bowl/rivit object? I want the flat ends of the copied bowls/rivits to lie on the same plane as the pathA circle. See pic. Hope this description makes sense. Also, is there an exact way to orient the view perpendicular to a plane that is not aligned to the x/y/z planes? I've been doing it by trial and error, but I need more precision.
