Here's the first shot of my major Halo2 Movie I'm making. When the camera pans to the bridge, there's supposed to be a huge explosion in the background, shaking the view. I'm lookin for some help or a link to a tutorial for this scene. Anything helps! First_frames.mov

I'm trying some new techniques with this. My eventual goal is just to finish modeling, rigging, and texturing him. I just want to complete a character, for once. I didn't do any rotoscopes, I'm modeling everything on the fly. I started off with a rough proxy so that I had the proportions I want nailed down before I started: With the head, I did things a little different too. I made the eye and the mouth by lathing splines, and re-shaping them. The nose I started by lathing a nostril, duplicating it, attaching the two, and then modeling the bulb and bridge. I did the eye first, then the nose, and attached them, then the mouth. I'm sorry I didn't take …

I was animating a short Easter movie amout a lost lamb and things were moving along fairly smoothly until I applied hair to the model. For some reason I am getting these weird moving black squares around the hair of the model. I am pleased with the way the fur turned out but I would rather not have ants swarming the poor lamb. Can anyone rescue this sad lamb from the evil squares? I'm at a loss for what to do. Thank you! David lambtest.mov

Okay so I've been working on this character, his name is Brainfart, and I'm having one, I'm kinda stuck on the look. Something looks off to me and I'm not sure what, anyone got any comments, I'ld love to hear some ideas. The thing on top will be a headlight. Thanks, Andy.

I hereby debut a vague, confusing, fragment of a tale in the process of creating itself. [albeit snippets have slipped out here and there]. The main character [bipedal and arthropoidal] is "EL Cucaracha". [Grammer, spelling and emphasis in the original]...a James Bond-style freebooter, now in the process of fleeing for his life, for reasons unknown, though those reasons are no doubt good ones. It's the confluence two idle, non-related thoughts suddenly recognizing each other. One: 'el bog' himself was the product of pushing elements around with no particular goal in mind, and, Two: what the world really needs is a locomotive that can run on a single wheel, a 'razor-r…

ok, i got a big big problem here, deadline is in 2 days... i have this shot i need to render in high quality, at least 2000x1500 px.... the soccerfields grass is a hair system, color driven by a decal. when i rendered it in vga-resolution for a test with low hair-density (5%) everything looked fine, but when i increase the density parts of the hairsystem renders white, not green anymore... the higher the density-value, the more parts of the grass are rendered white. i use a skylight rig with 25 lights, wich was no problem in the past, also in combination with a field of grass made with hair with similar density-values and size... i tried almost everything: rendered …

Every time I try to build a head, when I try to patch sections together, or fill ares by closing off with a spline, I get a complete mess like the pic. shown here. I try to pull and adjust the Bezier handles, but it nearly always makes it worse. I doing something fundamentally wrong, but haven't a clue as to what.

As per Vern's request, this was one of the May Mechanical Contest entries. (I actually entered two, this Rebel and the Lamborghinni Gallardo). And as with Eric's entry, this is still a WIP. I had been doing a WIP thread on this already, showing the progress of the model. The Gallardo was the model I created mainly for this contest. Never even thought about entering the Rebel until someone in the WIP thread asked if I was going to enter it. I hastily tried to complete the model, but didn't succeed very well. There are a lot of things on the Rebel that I am not really happy with, and will be redoing them properly. Anyway, here are some larger, higher resolut…

Hello- Does anyone know how to create a kaleidsocope image, through rendering (or otherwise) ? Something similar to the attached jpg? I was hoping there was some sort of AM render effect that might work, or something that would at least create part of a kaleidoscope section....... that could then be x flipped. I was looking at my After Effects filters and they have something which says it creates kaleidoscopes but is more a "Tiling" sort of thing that looks cheesy anyway. Thanks for any suggestions! Tom

This it one of the very first projects built in A:M. I made some serious mistakes which conspired to slow the modeling, and the renders. First of them was that as I built things in the Modeling Window, I applied the textures as I went along. If, like with a wood beam, I needed this object several times in several models, I would copy it and paste in place. All well and good, except for the fact that A:M loads another copy of the texture. As I duplicated the bits, I ended up with a phenominal number of textures in the Textures Folder [to say nothing of Groups]. Another less-than-desirable aspect of A:M is that if a project sits idle for a few months, A:M had difficulty fin…

Ok...so it's not gonna be the next Woody or Buzz...but hey, its my first A:M character and I'm kinda proud of him. Still loads of work to do (getting rid of that horrible beard and using A:M's hair system, sorting out those legs, teeth, tongue, bones...argghhh!!!!). LOTS of work!!! For any other newbies out there I highly recommend David Simmons eye tut (and I was <ahem> slightly inspired by how he did Bertrums belly!) Let me know what you think.

I am still having difficulties with decals. I know there was a thread earlier concerning the corruption when a decal is placed on the model. Can someone direct me to that thread or tell me what to do? The decals when placed on the model appear fine, but when rendered they are stretched or pixelated. Steve

So this is the first time I've done an animated logo with AM. Turned out pretty good. The company sells Kettlebells which are used for building muscles. For those of you who don't know, muscles are things in your body that are slowly shriveling up as you sit in front of the computer for hours and hours with out moving anything buy your hands and fingers. This isn't the final version. It's a low res sample. The final is HD and doesn't have the orange glow.... man it looks SWEET. I'm watching the final render right now... still about 90 minutes to go. pkb.mov Here's what the final will look like: The zoom was just straight forward key framing wi…

Here is one more model from the movie 2001 - A Space Odyssey. It is the Moonbus, used to ferry the scientific team from the Clavius moonbase out to the Tycho crater where the monolith was found. Found some blueprints for the moonbus, as well as some excellent photographs of master model builder Martin Bower building a studio sized model. Al

So I've been working on the main character for my first short, an old man with a long beard. I've been avidly following the recent threads on hair, and have wanted to use hair for this guys beard and mustache. I really wanted the hair quality, but the overhead of experimenting with the hair emitter, and rendering has me questioning if I should use hair or geometry to create the beard. So if using geometry how would I go about creating a beard that at least looks close? Below is a sketch of the target "look" and the current model with a geometry mock-up for the beard. The biggest issue is the ability to work the beard in such poses as in the sketch, as w…

I got a chance to do a test to try to win some 3D work, I had 1 day to show I can do a pre-designed Female groundhog for the national 'Miss Dig' campaign. A:M got me from spline1 to finished render in about 7 hours... modeling, texturing, rigging (TSM2) animating and rendering(with FastAO). Sure- there's room for improvement, but I think a test like this in 1 day is 'spankin' !!! MissDig_1_Day_TEST.mov

Hey everybody, It's time once again to post my latest work in progress, a T rex skeleton. For anyone who knows me (or even my handle), this won't come as the slightest bit of surprise. Several years ago, I completed a T rex skull, and I always wanted to complete the skeleton, especially since Joe Cosman's Albertasaur is such an amazing model and has long been a wonderful bit of inspiration. So here we go: The goal at this point is get as many pieces made and in place. I am going for fidelity to my source material, but not extreme levels of detail. This is obviously a subjective standard, so I apologize in advance for inconsistencies along the way. However, becau…

I am going to be making a CG trailer for my company The Backyard Games first released game Office Bowling. As of right now it is playable on Facebook and it will soon becoming to iOS and Android phones and tablets. It is being made with Unity 3d. All animations done in Animation Master. Except, which seems very major, is the main character model and his main 4 skins that come with the game. I came onto the project after he had chosen to use this character. However, I did do all of the animations and rigged the character myself in Animation Master. And th…

Last year one of my benefactors got me Disney teacher Don Graham's "Composing Pictures", a very deep look at what makes images work. On of the techniques he talks about is "passage" where a band of color or value will cross what would normally be a shape boundary. One example he gave was this classic Chinese painting "Clear Weather in the Valley". you can see the sky color descends down through the whole picture even crossing over the sides of mountains. Here, it's like a low-lying fog. My other contest entry was an attempt to do something a bit like that with A:M. I made a set of flat planes for mountain tops and angled a volumetric effect to obscu…
