Robert has started a thread about Bioshock's Big Daddy character in this thread: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showt...t=0#entry245969 I really liked the character and asked Robert for approval to model Big Daddy also. With his ok on the subject, I splined away. This is my humble beginning, um, I mean Big Daddy's humble beginning. Critiques and comments always welcome.

Hi guys! Here are my last animations. The first is a "jump exercise". The focus of the animation is the jump, the rest of the animation I made it just for fun The second, is a little exercise of facial expression with the insect man that come included in the Justin Barret's CD tutorial. The animation is only 2 seconds, and only one word to make Lipsync, but I tried to make it the best I could. Jumping. Please Right Click And Save Target As... Jumping. So something I'm trying to do is make flames, something like this: I figured particles wouldn't give me the random shapes I want, so I'm trying fluid. Now fluid might work if I could add turbulence or something to it, because currently, the particles for fluid are too round and not wavy like Fire.mov If anybody has any insight or ideas, please, post!

Here's the animatic for our Holiday animation. It's pretty rough but cobbled together mainly to get the timing to match the music. This year we actually commissioned original music!!! so we don't have to sneak around and be "careful" of who we show it to. I've already posted the animatic on YouTube and will be posting WIP renders. The actual gingerbread house was modeled and rigged by Holmes and he did a great job on it. It'll be fun to get it moving! the closing shot of the dancing company logo will be done by my cohort, Randy, so what's in the animatic is just a placeholder. I'm sure he'll do something terrific. EDIT:: THIS IS A NEWLY UPLOADED FILE WITH STEEEREO …

Finally got some time to get back into doing some animation, been a long long while but here's my first crack at a spider walk. All criticism is welcomed. Ignore the black color and poor lighting, I had to toss it through the old AM for the .mov since the rc1 doesn't support qt yet. Thanks spiderwalktest.mov

Stunning aerial footage of what looks like a giant Muppet rampaging through downtown Dullsville... at 11... I had a little fun with the SynthEyes demo project, and thought the results were worth sharing. My sources tell me there may also be footage from one of the fleeing onlookers... at least if I can spend the $350 bucks on SynthEyes. Enjoy! ShaggyAttack.mov

http://www.campbellanimation.com/ We've been talking about BVH Mo-Cap down in the 'reusable motion' forum, and inspired by Zach Brewster-Geisz and Colin Freeman's cool animations and guided by Will Sutton's motion capture tutorial I was able to browse free BVH files thru bvhfiles.com via their 'BVHplayer utility' , import it into A:M and constrain it to my TSM2 rigged character. My character (Gurly Girl) also has long V11 hair so the effect of the hair on the real motion is...I think...pretty cool. But then, I like bus fumes too. If you were to mix MoCAP and hand animation... whooaaa! Have a look...give me some feedback...bad or good...I can take it...just …

_Harmonica.mov]This is part of an animation I was working on for New Year. It started on Christmas Day ( I think ? ). Theres another 15 seconds elsewhere but this is the main part. Theres no sound at the begining for 2 seconds and another two seconds at the end. The Instrument clips came courtesy of Garageband. There is no smart skin on the model as I have not learnt how to do that yet ( !!! ) Any feedback would be welcome, good bad or.indifferent... Harpy Blues Ear to one band call. simon

One of the things I like about A:M is how we can develop our own approaches to things and extend the tools that we already have. Considering recent discussion on hair I thought I'd explore some of the area I hadn't pressed into yet with hair based on splines shapes. One of the primary reasons to use particles for hair is to gain some dynamic capability and to prevent intesections and pass throughs of the hair. With geometry based hair one approach to would be to use Simcloth to prevent the inter-penetration of each hair. Attached are a few of my tests as proof of concepts: Further refining the geometry and adding patch images or decals of hair to the actu…

Hi all. After a considerable hiatus I dusted off my ongoing project of cheating on backgrounds on my webcomic Rhapsodies (Previous attempts can be seen here) This time I started working on one of the strip's principle sets/locations, Lysistrata Books a progressive bookstore owned by one of the cast members. After a rather frustrating false start of trying to alter one of the sets in the extra's dvd I went back in treating it like a television set with only two walls (after all we never see the others) Anyway so far this approach is going fairly well with only a few stumbling blocks. These being so far trying to find the correct recipe for plate glass (yes I know 30…

Well, no thanks to the Rant's and Rave's forum I'm making some progress on my second model. I kind of scrapped that first one because he really wasn't constructed very well. Anyway, I'm somewhat happy with the way he is coming along but I have a few problems maybe you can all help me with. 1. I originally had a 'toon mouth but it didn't look right. I kind of want to put a straight line mouth where the light green line in the picture is indicated. I'm not sure how to break into the head and make this so that the mouth will actually work - do I need to remodel the whole head? (The eyes are not attached). 2. I actually have TSM2, but I'm working on rigging …

I started over last month on a model that I started in June of last year. I quit working on it in July of 2007 but recently I wanted to create a small animation and decided he would be the star. So I started rigging the character with the poseable rig and it has taken me three tries to figure out the model itself was the problem. So I rebuilt the chest and shoulders and then worked on the head, reduced splines and now I am asking for critiques once again on the look. Steve

Hi, Thought it was about time to post something instead of simply reading everyone else's posts! I've been working on this 'guy' for the last couple of months, in between work, kids and all that... I've finally finished the basic model and now need to start tweeking / texturing / rigging etc. I'm armed with many tutorials (thanks to ShaunF for his wonderful and inspirational website, and 3DArtz for the CogJoints tutorial), so this could take a long while. Not even really sure what I'm going to do with him other than practise some animation, although I don't think this guy will be the brightest of sparks - I think I'll have a lot of fun with his eyes. Any thoughts,…

It's been a while since I posted anything in these forums, but I thought I would show you all the model I've been working on over the last few hours for a game I plan to write. This isn't rigged brilliantly, but I don't need a lot of animation as I am writing a 2D game with pre-rendered graphics. The final result will be a much smaller penguin, but I made it larger than need be so I can shrink it later in the development process.

Hello everyone, I've been producing a direct to DVD video for some time now. BUT as an animator, I also squeeze in some time to work on my demo reel. Attached is a demo reel sequence I'm finalizing. I've been inspired for some time now to animate something Sci Fi along the lines of a John Carter type theme. Lots of Fun..... I used some of the riggs from the Hash community here. They fit the look I was hoping to acheive. Aliens, Tharks, Barbarians, Martian Princess's.....FUN!!! Cheers!!! William Detwiler Detwiler_anim_1.mov

Here's the deal. Like many animators, I've got an elaborate set in my choreography. Over two dozen models just for the one room, ten lights, ten cameras (so far). Although it was necessary to place all of these elements individually, I often need to deal with them as a group. For example, when doing test renders, I may need to toggle the entire set on and off. Or I may need to flip all the lights off so I can add in another light. Right now, doing stuff like this is really tedious. Clicking through the property window on 26 different models and setting each one's 'Active' property to OFF, and then back to ON when I'm done, is getting old real fast. Managing…

Hi all - I've been meaning to do this for a long time. One of the things that my mini movie work proved to me was/is that I need to work on lighting. I've started this thread so that I might gain as much input into the process as possible from anyone who wants to comment. This first exercise is supposed to be an outdoor setup, I'm going for afternoon sun. I understand that this isn't the most interesting from a character and modeling standpoint, but that is not my intent here. Thanks for any thoughts. Doug

Back at the last mascot contest I started to work on a couple of characters that I intended to turn into a very short short. I did a number of animated tests before deciding to scrap one of the characters and start again. As I was sorting through some folders today I came across some of these old tests and I realised that this stuff might never see the light of day again so I decided to post a sample here incase anyone is interested. and some pre-race warmup:

This is my attempt at doing the voice of the main character of my current project. She is an approximately-ten-year-old girl who reaches the age of early 20s by the end the project, so her voice should change a little between the beginning and end of the story. I figured, by doing the voice myself, I could change the voice as needed. Self-directing is easier than telling someone else exactly what you need. (also, it makes it less daunting to do multiple takes). I thought I would post this test (or self-audition) here on this site to get the opinions of my fellow animators, whose opinions I trust. And, yes, I borrowed, verbatim, the dialog from Jason Osipa's ani…

Hey Peoples, Here's a new demo reel. (Terrible terrible compression, but this isn't the final version, just something to get feedback on.) Everything done in A:M http://www.alonso-soriano.com/anim/SorianoDemo.mpg 5.4Mb Mpg (so you can view it in whatever you want) What do you think? I'm looking for brutal critiques. What needs to go, where can improvements be made? I know the audio is off (only audio in 1 piece) by a frame or two but I'm pretty sure that happened when I was stitching it all together. Suggestions on order? Some things are from my last demo, do they still belong? Be achingly blunt, please! Thanks. -Alonso

Welll her it is. I still need to touch up the seams and change some of the textures around, but take a look! When finished it will have specular mapping, normal mapping, etc for teh game it will be going into. Also I plan on using it in the opening animation for that game. It'll be done in A:M. (I'll post a small movie to show the whole thing after my browser gets over timing out from waiting so long! I hate slow internet!)

Before I start my final rendering of this project I'm working on, I'd thought I'd see what some of you think about toon lines, with or without.... I've noticed that smaller resolutions yield not-so-great results while larger rez images or movies bring more precise results concerning the toon lines that is. This file contains my character with toon lines. (line bias set to 700.) with_lines.mov

I got an idea the other day to make animations involving a bunch of animals. Its going to be a completely random set of clips of a bunch of different animals doing anything I have thought of. Me and my friend always come up with [what we think] are hilarious ideas and i figured i could implement them into an animal rather humans. So today I figured I would start with an animal and figure out a look of my own. And the original idea was to have them look Almost as if claymation but done in CG. Tell me what you think of my progress from today. First Animal: Cow
