I've been looking for a model of a panda bear for a website project. Anyone have one they'd be willing to let me use? I thought there was one on the A:M disc, but I can't find it, and the old "Panda on Fire" project isn't up on the FTP mirror anymore. (If an actual panda isn't available, a regular bear may be ok, I'll just have to re-texture it.) Thanks! Sev

My friend and I are working on a project (have a look: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showt...+Trek+Red+Squad ) and we are using two different programs. I use 3ds Max 2010, and he uses A:M v16. My question is this: has anyone used ResErect to export models between any version of Max and A:M v16, and if so, how well does it work? Any help would be much appreciated

Nothing much to say...it's a boat. The model's for illustrating how the ship handles, and isn't intended to be photoreal, especially as it's for a proposal only.

OK, I am just getting into the game with AO. I have been frustrated with it so far but see potential. Others can create a wonderful look of daylight with it. Here is a shot with basic settings. How do you get a better light for the front? I know someone told me to increase the ambiance of the object but that did not work. Steve

This is a little try at making an AO style render with just z-buffered kleig lights. I chose the "Biobot" character from the extras disk because he has lots of crevices and bumps to challenge the occlusion effect. AOBTurnTestH.mov The result isn't quite as satisfying as a real AO image but it takes only 5 seconds per frame to render. The quicktime compression is making the shadows on the ground look patchier than they really are. In the original render they're quite smooth.

Attached is a night time fly by of an Apache Longbow helicopter. It is the first time I have used the Quicktime format for animation, so I have several things I am concerned about. (1) Does it play ok? (sound, etc.), (2) It is a compromise between showing enough detail of the model vs. the night time environment. So does it seem to look fairly realistic? and (3) Every animator's request, do you see anything to improve it?Apache1.mov

I'm attempting to apply a small QT movie as a decal. It will be on a curved shape and will create an illusion of spinning with a series of blurred frames. but when I apply it, either directly in the model window or in an action window after flattening, it applies exactly the same way, with a few stretched/repeated images. I'm attempting to attach an image to show the way the movie looks, and the way it applies. Can someone telll me what I could be doing wrong? Thanks! P.S. The attach image may not be working. Don't know why, I browse for the image but there's no way to upload apparently. You'd think I'd know how to work this by now.

I am slowly learning this software and have nearly finished my 1st independent model of an archery bow. Ultimately it will be loaded and fired by some kind of mechanical device at musical instruments. (Think Animusic) I have not began study of materials yet. I need to figure out how to make the grain smaller on the handle. This is by no means the final materials of the bow. As far as my 1st model goes....thoughts? Suggestions?

Here's the deal. Like many animators, I've got an elaborate set in my choreography. Over two dozen models just for the one room, ten lights, ten cameras (so far). Although it was necessary to place all of these elements individually, I often need to deal with them as a group. For example, when doing test renders, I may need to toggle the entire set on and off. Or I may need to flip all the lights off so I can add in another light. Right now, doing stuff like this is really tedious. Clicking through the property window on 26 different models and setting each one's 'Active' property to OFF, and then back to ON when I'm done, is getting old real fast. Managing…

Thought I would do another model from 2001 - A Space Odyssey. This time, it is the Aries Lunar Lander that took Heywood Floyd from the Space Station to the moon. I've modeled it once before using a poly program. Now, I am going to do it in A:M. I think this model is going to take a while to do. Been having some problems with my health lately. Nothing too serious, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, pre-diabetic, and a bit of depression from having a cancerous mole taken off my back. For such a small mole (around 5mm), they took a pretty big chunk out of my back, ended up with a 2.5cm incision. Anyway, some of the meds are really affecting my ability to th…

Hello all, I have worked of rigging my character for the last week, and thought I was doing well. I finished creating clinched hand movements when I moved to creating smart skin for the characters body. When I went back to test a previously hand clinch poses, I noticed the sliders didn't work. I opened an action and tried to move the fingers individually, but they seemed to be frozen -- only the roll worked. Interestingly, a previous version of the model exhibited the same problem. I can't figure out what is happening. Anyone have any ideas? AD PIV, 3.6 GZ HT using AM 2005 (Orang 11.1h) ArmWIP2.zip

I saw the signature from Terry (Maniac) has a dog-tag in it and looks a lot like one I made last year... wanted to show him my animation- HERE! (I always believe the forum should have more 'show-and-tell' to it...) So, this is an After-Effects/A:M project for a TV show that may have never been seen... kinda of a 'join the Army and you too can become an elite professional' show. I was charged yesterday afternoon with doing a graphic for a presentation. One of those "Step 1, Step 2, Step 3..." type of deals. My other work was slow, so I asked the boss if I could go home and do it in 3D. It's overkill for the job, but I thought it would be fun to do and foolishly believed I could knock it out in a couple of hours and get off work early. I finished it around 10pm last night. So that didn't work out exactly as planned, but on the plus side, putting together a complicated scene was a great learning experience. I had a fairly rocky false start, but learning from that, I started over again fresh and tried to do things in a more organized, sma…

Hi All - I have nearly completed modeling the lamp I will use to continue ABC training. If I can complete this model and successfully rig this sucker, I'll post the model up for all to use. I have two questions which are stopping me from completing this model: 1) The lamp shade itself. I lathed the shade and then I added points to create the slotted cutouts (see images LuxoLampShade-Render and LuxoLampShade-Closeup for examples). When I added the points, the top-middle section of the lampshade is no longer smooth. What I'm wondering is, how would you recommend I create the slots in the lampshade to keep it nice and smooth? 2) For the lamp's spri…

This has been on the shelf for a while, so I thought I'd dust it off and work on some improvements. Might incorporate it in an entry for the September image contest. So far this design is far too mechanical. I want to modify it quite a bit to give it a more "organic"--and menacing--look. Any suggestions will be quite welcome. The really interesting challange will be to rig it for animation. Any suggestions for that will also be quite welcome. It is basically a "boneless" anatomy according to the novel, so it will probably look best if it can move much like a squid's tentacles or an elephant's trunk. Really looking forward to Guillermo Del Toro's version of…

Hey Guys, It's Simon, Director and Animator for SIP's longest running 3D Production, Against The Author, The Beginning of the End. I just thought after recently returning to browse the Animation Master Forums that I should stop in and post a little preview on how things are going with ATA. Well, the movie was suppose to be released Winter 2006, and, a few weeks before release, we had a system crash and lost most of our work. Yet, after re-installation of Animation Master and all other needed programs, SIP is well underway in producing Against The Author again, with the new release date set for later this year. The movie itself is a 3D Animated Action/Comedy, exp…

Hello, I'm getting to the point where I am finalizing the construction of this dragon model, and I have to attach a hand, where the hand has 12 pts at its beginning, and the stump of the wrist has 8, I believe. This has always been the most difficult part for me....I generally try to model parts separately, and then attach them later, as that has always been the way that has worked best for me in the past. However, due to AM being different from polygon modellers, it doesn't seem to make sense to do that anymore. When I am trying to join to parts with disparate numbers of points, the simple solution is to make sure that each end has the same number…

Ok, I did a pretty good job of attaching the hand, I need to attach the arm now and so I have to make a hole for it. This is my least favorite part as I have a good chance of screwing up the geometry I already have. I have taken 2 screenshots, one for reference of the way the arm is now, and another with blue lines and dots where I think the new splines and cp's should go. Do you think I am pretty much right on the money, or would you do it differenty? Roger[attachmentid=18351][attachmentid=18352]

I am experimenting with some of my old animation projects in order to see if adding cartoon-type physics improves them. The attached video is one of several tricks from a project where Eddie and his "family" perform a series of stunts with a basketball. The back flip in real life would be quicker than what I am using here, but I added a little delay where he hangs in the air. Hopefully it adds a little entertainment value to the animation. I would appreciate it if someone would take a look at it and let me know if you see problems with the timing and weight of the characters during the action. eddieSecondPart_reduced.mov
