A:M Forum Rules
GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.
-No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.

-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

OK i have been trying to add some roundness to my creations with circles and ovals and such . and to that point i have been using the lathe tool to create wheels that are well ...... round. but i have encountered a problem. it seams that the lathe tool works on a 8 point system while the grid is only 4 . when i try to use the snap to grid option the points at 0 90 180 270 snap into correct position but the points at 45 135 225 315 snap to what ever point is closest. is there a way i can collect the cps as a full group and select only one of them to snap into the grid to aline the circle???

Hello guys... I have a basic question, so I thought it would be best to post it here. I want to combine live-action with a CG-character. The CG-Character is a simple one like Thom from the cd... (a bit more complex so, but doesnt matter...) The character is connected to a bunch of keys (key fob). A real person will throw the bunch of keys into the air and fetch it again, etc. There will be some detail-shots of the keys and the key fob. Now my question, What would you do: - Would you try to use a real key fob and key it away? After that, use the video as a rotoscope and add the 3d-character above? (I have a key fob which I painted violett/pink […

Hi - I just upgraded to v15 w/ fluids - but I haven't has a minute to run through any of the fluids tutorial... I have a new client that contacted me that owns a plastics manufacturing company and they produce bottles that he wants an animation of one filled w/ fluid and have it tipping up and porring into a second compartment on the container - basically it lets you measure out a certain amount. My question is for anyone that has been playing around w/ fluids - is this something that can be done - having the fluid/water starting in the bottle about 3/4 full and pouring it out? Thanks for any help - Eric

I'm posting a little help notice in here because I need some help with lesson nine and other than Robcat and Rodney I haven't seen too much of anyone else in the TAO area. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm real stumped on this one. Hi, I'm Jonathan. I'm new to A:M. But that's not really important. I wanted to make a cube, just a simple cube. From scratch. And everytime I plot points for a cube, the lines the points make keep bending, making my cube look like a kind of square-ish marshmallow. Is there a way to fix this? _Jonathan..^~^Meow.

I made a simple decal in photoshop with an alpha channel to be used as a cookie cut in AM. Once pasted and applied as cookie cut, the decals does it's job, but the patches that lie withing the edges of the decal do not render. I'm sure there is a very simple explanation and fix, but I'm not an expert on decals, sooooo...anyone?

If anyone can help tonight, I would appreciate it!... I am not to familiar with decaling and alpha channels or decal transparency. Basically i am trying to decal portions of a ship i am working on. the decals i have are colored with black around the edges. I would like to apply the decal to the model and then change the image so the black portion becomes transparent leaving the color portion of the decal. I am attaching the cample images i have along with a screen cap of the decal i am trying to apply. I need help to get this worked on tonight fo the AM meeting in philly tomorrow. Is there a guide to all constraints? I pick up an object with a kinematic/orient like/compensate combo ( hand and forearm so the forearm follows the hand) then later I want to attach the hands to something.... Well the 2nd time I use a Kinematic on the same bone, it totally ignores it ( the 2nd one) even if the 1st is set to 0% enforcement. Also the 1st is set to a different bone than the 2nd, the 1st doesn't use compensate and I need compensate for the 2nd action. How do I get the 2nd Constraint to work, or what am I supposed to use instead of Kinematic? Kinematic works if I delete the 1st one. Imagine someone doing a pushup then lifting a barbell. T…

I am aware that you can constrain a character or an object to a path and render that animated action over time. For example, create a walk cycle for a character and have him walk along a spline/path placed on the ground. The question is: Is there a way to have a cross section of a model follow a path in the choreography window and sort of build itself over time. Think of a model that magically grows and grows unto completion before ones eyes. An example of this might be a single spline/path that swirls around to look like a written version of the fluid Coca Cola logo. Could you have a cross section of a model follow that sweeping path and animate over time so th…

I'm attempting to do a sort of "shoot 'em up" type of animation, and the more I play with A:M the more I realize there's tons of stuff I still need to learn. Anyway, there are several things I'm having problems with. Firstly, I'm trying to do a muzzle flash when a gun is fired. I was reading on the the special effects page on the Killer Bean website, and he said he did muzzle flash by modeling a vaguely conical shape, making it glow, etc, then scaling it up and down in (I assume) the choreography. I thought it might be easier to just put the muzzle flash on the model of the gun, and make an action that scaled it up and caused the gun to recoil (because then one would…

I have a model I built in version 13, and I would very much like to import it into a Choreography in version 12 of A:M. Although the ideal solution would be to use version 13 of the software, but this may not be possible. Is there any way to import a newer model into an older version of the software? Thanks.

I use a G5 Power Mac with an Apple "Mighty Mouse" which has a roller ball for scrolling horizontally and vertically, plus it provides "right click" cabpabilities similar to a PC mouse with two buttons and a scroll wheel. The problem seems to be that when using this mouse in A:M (Macintosh OS X 10.4.6 & A:M Version 2005 12.0u) the scroll function of my mouse is not recognized. If I switch to a third pary two-button mouse with a scroll wheel like Logitech's Optical Notebook mouse, I can scroll (up/down) within frames/windows that have scroll bars and within windows that use the zoom feature, the scroll wheel acts as a zoom tool that allows zooming in/out quickly. …

I just purchased AM over the weekend and I am trying to get through the first tutorials. My problem is that when I select a character and click on its gizmo to move, rotate, or resize it the box disapears and it looks like all the verticies on the character are selected. I have found that I can use the gizmo if I hold down the shift button while clicking on it but that causes more problems after the first move. I am having a similar problem if I show the bones I cannot click on them unless I hold down the shift key. I hope this isnt the way its supposed to work. Sorry for being so long winded. Thanks in advance for any help! Ctimbs

I'm trying--struggling, really--to get my head around poses. As I try and fail to create new poses, the pose count attributed to the model keeps growing, so by the time I get one set, it's "Pose 8," and there seems to be no way to delete the other 7 so I don't have them cluttering up my project. This is especially true of the first 5, which seem to be default poses, but I can't find a way to edit them. How do I delete those I don't want and edit those I do once they're set? Thanks. I'm none too pleased with the pose tutorials I've seen--or, haven't--so I'm fighting my way through this, and losing!
