A:M Forum Rules
GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.
-No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.
-No "Wish list" or feature requests, they should be sent to www.hash.com/reports for categorizing and prioritization (User requests define the future development of the software).
-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

I've started playing with particles, and thought that blobbies would make a good blood effect. I may end up with streaks in the end, but in the mean time, I need to know what is causing this strange grouping of the blobbies. I've tried changing every parameter in the blobby emitter and the sprite emitter, but nothing seems to change the square groups of blobs to a continuous stream of blobs. Does the properties of the emitting surface effect the emissions? My emitter surface has four patches. If it had 49, would the emitted blobbies behave differently? The attached picture shows this unusual (I think) clumping of the blobs. When rendered, the blobs are sti…

Hello All, I made a simple character consisting of pieces of chalk and a chalkboard eraser. I'm a teacher and I'm using this as a "Bug" intro to a video my class will be doing later this year. Anyway... I created a simple walk cycle 24 frames. I made a path and constrained the eraser to it Assigned the action. Extended the Cycle length to 15 seconds The character walks ok, but it will glide for about two frames at the end of the cycle, and return to his walk cycle and glide at the end again. I did set the stride length, but I must be missing something. It's bugging me because when the character walks, you can see there is just something not rig…

Hi Everyone, I own an online company with national exposure and I am trying to grow my business. My website is http://www.EZMLSListing.com Typically, I get about 50-100 hits per day. I am wondering if anyone would be intersted in submitting a themed 15 or 30 second TV commercial that I could post on my website and possibly Air in the future. As a newbie, my skills will take time, so I was thinking that I could provide the exposure and include the Artist's contact information and a link to their website in exchange for a TV Commerical that someone submits. There would be NO exchange of Money, it would just be a way of one hand washing the other. I…

Hi, I'm treating to get an expression to be able to control a point with the movement of several other points, I mean a point that moves automatically the average of the distance the controller points move, you know, just like when you add several "Translate To" dynamic constraints to a one bone and it moves in the middle when any of that controllers bones is moved... I have tried to "concatenate" (cause it seems not possible to add several expressions to a same parameter) little expressions in this way "..|..|..|Spline #164|CP #169.Translate ..|..|..|Spline #165|CP #170.Translate" but it doesn't works and I have tried to join'em in all the ways I can imagine "&, |, …

Well, although I love Expressions, it seems that always I try to take advantage of them something is going wrong, so I think the best thing I could do is treat to joint all my headaches in an only one theath, and... well, here in the first: In this case I wanted to resolve my pourpose by Relationships but for some reason it seems I can't add a Relationship to a Constrain value... So I'm treating to apply a simple Expresion from one value in a Constrained bone to another one in to another Constrained bone, I mean, one value is managed by another similar value, at first sight it seems nothing could be wrong, isn't? But as you can see here... ConstrainEaseValue_Exp…

Hi all! I'm working with Jeff Paries' Blobby Snowfall: ftp://www.hash.com/pub/Projects/V6.1/Snowfall.prj and the particles are coming out like little ping pong balls. I know I have to change the surface attributes of the blobbies but I can't seem to find settings that look even remotely like snow (although the movement looks great). Any ideas? Thanks, Mike

How exactly would you go about making landscapes? Do you create a grid, manipulate that grid, and place it on top of the ground? Or can you manipulate the ground in a choreography? If anyone could give me some tips that would be great.

Hi - I am working on a project for a client that has to be rendered out at a very high resolution - one of the characters in the scene is a girl with long hair - I want to use a hair material to create her hair, but getting concerned I may not be able to render it, or take way too long at the resolution it has to be in. Has anyone created a character they could point me to or post a pic of that they modelled the hair, but still has a realistic look to it? Thanks - Eric

Hi everyone, I'm currently running Animation:Master on a Mac G5 with 3 GB of Ram. OS version: 10.4.11. The computer's about 5 years old. I can still edit with Final Cut Pro just fine, but A:M doesn't seem to like it very much. A:M will crash once in a while, rendering is a crapshoot, and some tutorials like putting fur on Chewbacca was difficult for the computer to handle. I'm anxious to learn and use A:M for all sorts of projects, so I figure I should get a new computer. The PC I currently have is pushing 10 years old, so I was going to buy a new PC, but alot's changed in 10 years!! Can anyone recommend a good PC to buy? I was hoping to get one unde…

I may get a little long winded, so please feel free to move on to a more interesting post. I was a child in the 50's, watching Lassie and the Beaver in first run in black and white. My dad had one of the very first remote controls: Me. In Junior High in the early 60's I explored Time and Space with Heinlein, Asimov, and Van Vogt. I went to my first concert in 1965. The Beatles played the Memorial Coliseum here in Portland Oregon. In the late 60's I explored Time and Space in a different manner, and from the few high points I remember, I had a pretty good time. Pong became a sensation and "Asteriods" became astronimical entertainment at a quarter a pop. …

Hi! In the ideal, I'd like to render a scene at 13200 x 10200 pixels, by my calculations, but A:M crashes when I set a render at that resolution. Is there a way to only render a portion of a size like this, and then piece the parts together in a program like Photoshop, later? I feel that if I try to move the camera and render only parts of a scene, the perspective would change for each section. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tim

A:M on EEE?

I use to use A:M on my desktop a lot back when I first got it, then I started slacking off. Recently, I found Anim8or and started playing with that and decided I wanted to install A:M again. Problem is, my EEE doesn't have a CD-ROM. I'd like to know if there is a legitimate way of running A:M without the CD (aside from a volume license). If A:M and Anim8or shared any format, it'd be a non-issue, but I'd prefer to use A:M. Like I said, its been a while since I used it. I have "Sorserez" version CD. (Old, I know.) My brother and I bought it at a computer show because the guy giving the demo showed how simple everything was. I don't remember exactly why I stopped using …

Hello everybody, I have been working with Sim Cloth with some success ( I have a human model with a hooded robe + cape outfit which is working relatively well in Sim Cloth) however it is only working well because the geometry resolution of the fabric is relatively low (as is the invisible model used for bounding information). While it is working pretty serviceably as is, I was trying to use the split-patch plug-in to make the fabric more complicated. Of course upon doing this, the simulation times became very slow, which isn't so bad, but now also the number of collisions is in the tens of thousands and often the simulation now becomes unsolvable even with a good d…

This is certainly a case of a guy who left Animation:Master for years and came back... For the record, I'm still running with Animation 2006 here - that was the version I'd upgraded to before I gave it up in despair because my old computer used to crash it. I've now upgraded to a brand new "Windows 7 Home" machine, which runs it very nicely. Anyway, to the subject of my problem. My hare Danbuster's kilt is an essential part of his quirky personality, but not to the point of absurdity I wouldn't have thought. I just tried attaching a SimCloth material to the ring-splines that make up his kilt below the belt, using the defaults from the "Waving the Flag" tutori…

I've got a very simple scene together in which I need to set up about 10 different camera moves, each that render a 20 second animation very quickly. The scene is made up of about 6 simple models: a ground plane, a long, flat, straight road, a car (the Porche from the CD), a simple scanner that the car passes through, a simple control booth, and a stop sign. All very simple. I've reduced the lighting in the scene to 1 klieg w/ Z-buffered shadows set very high in the scene acting as a sun. I've done this …

Alright, kinda fundamental modeling question here. Typically, when modeling something round that needs to be capped off smoothly (and no hole/point from lathing), I'll do something like this: Unfortunately, this always seems to create creases - particularly in the three-point patches - that no amount of bias tweaking gets rid of: I've included the model in the screenshot; it's just a 2-second deal with no polish or anything. round_cap.mdl Is this just a fundamentally bad way to model stuff, or is there a way to get rid of these creases? Thanks!

For me, working with bones and there tool set of constraints is confusing and frustrating. I know what I want and how I want it, but getting that actually setup in AM is still beyond my skills and understanding of logic. I've got a bird shaped mechanical foot from a Mad Cat I'm trying to model. Played around with Euler/Spherical limitations and Limit Manipulators, turning off the axis I don't want it to move along. Setting up restrictions of -15 to 15 degree along the X-axis rotation for the toes. When manually manipulating/adjusting bones, I'm restricted to follow those limitations. But when I use the Aim at Target, pointing at a Null, it seems…

I slapped my Al Capone rotoscope onto my model as a decal, and it looks OK until I move any of the 5 point patch CPs in the UV editor and then they look like a cigarette got put through them. Hi - I'm just restarting learning A:M (V11.1i) after years of fallow, so I have some really basic platform/environment questions. I was just fooling around with Keekat in a choreography window. I started in Chor mode. (Standard Mode was selected the whole time.) It played back fine using the "play range" button. I tried clicking the "Modeling Mode" mode button and then "play range". It also played back the same animation, albeit with a different l…

Is there some way to view the help without the program? That could be another workaround. Regards…
