Hello, I've made a few sets for an animation project, and since this is my first time doing this kind of thing, I would like to get feedback (suggestions, stuff you like, stuff you hate). Anything will help. Thank you very much. p.s. the two city areas are supposed to be lit like it would be sunset...if they don't look that way, please inform me of my error. Also, the other images are from inside the mech.

Hi - just wanted to thank everyone who answered my numerous questions while working on this project. I finished the lotion girl to the best she is going to be... she's not Joe Williamsen's Hunter, I've got quite a way to go until I am anywhere near there Anyway, the client wanted the "Bratz Doll" look. Here is a link to the animation on her website and a couple images below. Not real happy with the lip sync, I have some practicing to do with that as well, but the project was taking too long and the client was happy so moving on. Have a great weekend, and thanks again for all your quick forum responses - Eric Animation: http://www.discountindoortanninglotions.co…

Although I've been reading the forum for quite a few months, this may be the first time I post. (Edite: ok, I got 4 posts, so it's not really the first time... but still, I think this is the first time I post an image) This is the main character from a 2D Chinese RPG game "Sword of Hsuan Yuan" (The Ultimate Sword) version 3 made in 1999 (meaning the original design credit is not mine at all). By turning him 3D and "real-looking", hopefully I am not violating any copyright law. I am thinking of using this picture (or an improved version) to enter the Sci-Fi image contest. Any comments or suggestions are most welcome.

A few years ago I had sketched out a design for a spacecraft and proceeded to model it in AM. I could never get the fuselage right. A few times a year I'd pull the model up and hack away on it but it just wasn't fulfilling my original vision. Sunday afternoon I had a what-the-hell moment and converted it to AM13. For whatever reason, it suddenly came together. I have a drawer full of old drawings with many a spacecraft sketch, but this one has always been my favorite; now it appears that I might finally be able to get it flying.

Hey guys was needing some C&C on this first segment of the new proj I'm working on. Just want to focus on the bum action for now. walk_in_the_park.mov Here what I'm seeing: The walk looks a bit mechanical; I was thinking about maybe adding in Squash and stretch but was afraid it would take away from the "stamper scuffle" I was going for. and the "plop" down to sitting overshoot seems kind off too. thanks ahead of time guys

Hello fellow animators, For my short film, I'm trying to create a certain lighting effect using a directional light. I'm working with Ambient Occlusion. I tried adding a light, but it always appears as a spherical light source casting light in all directions. Instead I added the rim light that is default in any chor's PWS to my choreography, and that light is indeed directional. So cool, I thought I had it all figured out. The thing I don't understand is, the light is shining through walls. I'm trying to have the light partly obscured by a wall, but even if I aim it in the center of a wall, the light is just as strong on the other side of the wall! Is there some se…

About 8 months ago I made... well tried to make Big Daddy from bioshock. I have gotten somewhat better and always look at the Bioshock project as one of my 'first' works. I want to see how much better I have actualy gotten, so I'm redoing the project. The first picture you see is my old project when I desided it was 'finished'. The second is the refrance picture i used/am using. I will post updates of what I've been working on when it finishes updating.

Hello - been working on a second tooth animation for my dentist client, the first one was the Veneers. This second one was much more challenging, I had to set up several pose sliders to get the different effects. The most interesting part was creating the "impression" which is like a lump of clay on a mouthpiece that goes in the mouth - then having it pull out w/ an impression of the teeth in the clay. Anyway, here it is if anyone is curious. It's on my site - the lower center under section "2D & 3D Flash Demonstations" - it's the first one just click on "VIEW" http://www.flashanimationwebsitedesign.com/ Thanks for all the help from my posts - Eric

ChiwawaTest15_221008.choThis little-dog model of mine renders kind of strange. Like when you have drunken too much. (see picture) Guess, this must be something in the settings? (I cant detect nothing unusual ) Anybody has any expierience with that? It would interest me , what causes this, not only to be able to avoid it, but also to be able to create it, in case you would need something like this. ? Jake ? StrangeTest15_221008.prj

I've had A.M. now for 3 weeks. Watching and reading tutorials here at the forums as helped me to better understand spline/patch modeling. Thanks all! I come from box polygon modeling before getting A.M. The biggest lesson I learned so far is spline continuity. Then the limited but usefull use of 5 point patches (knowing when to use them or not) and hooks. I still have got lots to learn but here is the wip so far. The creature is not tweaked on his anatomy, no reference used, just started at the feet and worked up from there to help learn spline modeling. Oh yeah, no head yet LOL.

Foliage is always one of those things that takes time. Fur works great but takes forever, however thanks to the team at hash adding the options for cookie cut decals to cast shadows there is a faster option. Here are a couple of tests. Rendering time was about 20 seconds a frame, with all the detail supplied by cookie cut flat planes and zbufffered lights. leaftest.mov leafBilboard.mov

Starting to get real busy here. Had to do some layouts of some cast plates with depressed lettering and imprinted ceramic middles for a client to choose from. Love the displacement mapping in AM, so much easier then messing around with high density poly models or micro displacement. So much quicker for the basic texturing than just about any program I have used in the past. Thanks!

I have a problem with lightening an acryl-block with an image behind it in A:M. The best result I could archieve till now is a Radiosity-rendering, which looks great except the dark parts behind the acryl-block. Anyone can give me a hint to what to do next? I cant increase the sample-area or the amount of photons (A:M seems to have a limit here). I attached the consolidated projekt (had to replace the image with a dummy-image... but that doesnt matter... The rendering here is a progressiv-one, but it although looks like that in final-rendering. I am talking about the chor "Radiosity_Acryl" here. There I am combining Arealight-Shadows with Radiosity. …

Hello! I have yet another idea that popped into my head. I got this idea when I was sorting through some photos I took while I was on vacation (About 1500 of them ). The images that sparked it were: 50mm f/1.8 119 second exposure, Canon Rebel XT Panarama of 7 photos at 50mm perspective When I looked at these I though, Hey why not make that in A:M So here is where I am at: 15min3x3pass 768x1024px The giant monolithic rock is basic a simple extruded model with some eXtreme displacement mapping. I originally modeled it in A:M and opened it in zBrush to sculpt in the details, but I could not figure out for the life of me how to get UVs that …

I used the dynamic constraint on one of my model characters. It's been working really well. When they walk, certain body parts move almost realistclly. However, the biggest issue has been when I render the walking animation to video file, the dynamic effect stops moveing or does'nt move on the video as much as they moved on the basic action screen mode. I'm wondering is there a certain configuration you have to set in the rendering properties to see the dynamic constraint movements in the renderd video files or is it something else that I'm doing wrong? Any one please help!!!

I'm trying my first "real" rig and needless to say all is not well in 3D land. I am using the lite rig and am experimenting with the elbow joint as a starter. I've placed a fan bone, with cp weighting as follows: elbow ring nearest shoulder Bicep 75% forarm 25%, center ring 50/50, third ring 25/75. The elbow still deforms unkindly, and it doesn't seem like the fan bone is doing much of anything (it has a 50/50 orient like constraint to the bicep and forearm) Thoughts? Untitled.mov

I took a break from rigging and made this old chisel today. A generic render. no radiosity The model has diffuse map set to color, a grayscale map set to diffuse, 2 spec maps, and a normal map. The spec maps I'm still working on as 3Dcoat and how AM renders them is different. 3Dcoats spec map will work, just have to tweak them some more.

Just a quick test of hair, first time outside of TAOAM. Attached is a ZIP of the project and movie. Sorry, AVI only. [bTW, when uploading an AVI, the forum says "Upload failed. You are not permitted to upload this type of file".] Some of the hairs go through the ears, but the effect seems to be okay. Is there a good strategy for getting hair to be routed in areas that don't necessarily match the splinage? ETA: Just found John Bigboote's post on HAIR. ShaggyHair_cam.zip

Attached is a night time fly by of an Apache Longbow helicopter. It is the first time I have used the Quicktime format for animation, so I have several things I am concerned about. (1) Does it play ok? (sound, etc.), (2) It is a compromise between showing enough detail of the model vs. the night time environment. So does it seem to look fairly realistic? and (3) Every animator's request, do you see anything to improve it?Apache1.mov

Hello all- Trying to something VERY simple and thought I would ask the List... Just trying to create a cylinder shape that has a transparency map applied so that the cylinder object gradually fades out. ( please see attachment) At first I thought I would create a Material as an "Environment map" and chose the "cylinder" drop down menu; but I don't think you can define the bitmap that you chose to be a transparency map when applied. Then I thought of simply stamping the transparency map from all four directions (front, back, left, right) directly on the cylinder... but I'm guessing there must be a simpler way to apply a transparency map to a cylinder. …

I made this, well... because I can. Win7_Anim_Logo_TL_01.prj Not completely happy with it as I could not get the specularity on the lens to show properly, but my skills at lighting are not that great. *sigh* It's intended for widescreen 16:9 (1.35 Aspect setting in A:M's Camera) monitors as Windows 7 does NOT correct aspect ratio upon rendering the animation. The second image is an uncorrected 1:1 (1.0 Aspect setting in A:M's Camera)version here as well as the embedded project file (v14.0 only, sorry haven't upgraded yet) link. This will be my first actual animation contribution to one of our Spleengene videos. Before it has always been "non-camera" stuff. The song references numerous local Portland-Vancouver venues and bands. BACK STORY: A local band that I wanted to promote but couldn't work into the song is the Mike Branch Band. A few months ago on Face Book he posted this picture of his logo as a "tattoo" and someone complained and he was asked to take it down. A later attempt ended with the same result. It was taken with good humor and became a running gag amongst those in the know. 4s_Mike_Branch_Glasses.mov
