http://amfilms.hash.com/video/389/Lush-Lawn-TV-commercial This TV spot turned-out well... made in Animation:Master and Adobe After Effects. It is for a small local company called 'Lush Lawn'... and there was NO script or storyboard. The client just gave me a list of visuals... like this: CLIENT: First, we see Gary in front of a map of Michigan... I'll just do that in post with a map image... ME: No, no... I have a nice 3D model of the region already... you'll like it. CLIENT: Then he zooms into Grand Blanc and joins the logo and we see his nameplate... to introduce him. THEN he sinks into the soil and makes the grass grow... then we see examples of lawns…

I'm trying to put together a portfolio and I want to thank you guys for all your help and crits. I think I'm almost there. This is really an extended topic from the KeeKat's Secret where I asked the question on lipsyching methods. This is a run through using the "manual" method; which at this point I think gets the best results. cow_boy_sam.mov So far so good I got a couple more nit picks to flesh out on this one before I go on to the long monologue. as usual any C&C is welcome

Please let me know Thanks Rogelio

I've finished my latest project ('bout time I say). The 160 x 120 version is at AM:Films. http://amfilms.hash.com/search/entry.php?entry=850 For those with more bandwidth, there's a 320 x 240 video at this address: http://gutterbrothersllc.com/video/ I welcome all feedback, however I am finished with this project and will move on. So if you don't see your comments being used to fix the video, it's not that I didn't listen. In fact, I'll likely use everyones suggestions for future videos. Laters . . .

Hi all, it's been a long time since I posted. Real life medical problems kept me away, not mine but family. I just got another year of Animation Master. To refresh my spline modeling I'm working (WIP) on this simple Mace type weapon. Normal map details will be done in 3DCoat. This year, I will work on learning the nuts and bolts of animation. I got Jeff Lew videos ( his older ones when he used Animation Master and Working through Barry Zundels videos as I buy them) It was good to see the the King's Throne I modeled in some of Nancy's draft videos from the Scarecrow of Oz... The rope to the mace's handle was added in another program.

Last night I started a model of a machine gun. I am using the Colt M4 as reference. I've got most of the basic splining done and I'm now working on details. But for some reason it dosnt look right, anybody have any ideas on how to make it better? This isn't for any kind of project or anything, just for practice/fun . Just informing you all that I've joined the CGTalk Machineflesh Challenge. You can find the thread at http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=130145 I don't think I have a chance of winning... but if I get a single vote I'd be happy. Check it out. I highly encourage others to try it out. It's a 3 month challenge and it's a great way to learn, show off your skills, and represent A:M in the larger CG community. Zachary Taich

I thought some might get a kick out of this image. It's from a test I did earlier in the year related to Zack and my efforts to produce an A:M Magazine. I'd forgotten about this cover test though... now that I've found it I'll post before I lose it again. The idea was to trace back a bit of history in the A:M Community and feature certain artists and their creations. I think I did a 2001 and 2003 cover as well... but I fear they are misplaced on an old harddrive. I've lost my notes on who the artists are but Will Sutton's TAR is rather apparent. I believe, as the title suggests, that all characters were in the spotlight in the year 2002. The individua…

Hi all In my webcomic I've been doing an annual christmas story. This time I gave the protagonist's a slightly different manner of getting to the North-pole as seen here: Anyway I rather liked this concept and thought the magic snow bus came dangerously stealing the show for a while. Therefore since I felt I could probably use it for other projects I decided to take a crack at it. Obviously this has a way to go. I was a little premature putting in the wheels on but I wanted to get the idea across for these images. On the top of my list for what to do next is to work out the mechanics of the wheels and figure out how to do the windows and shingles. Anyway …

Most images I post here are of a model in broad daylight. But since I'm building a railroad observation car I wanted to see if the internal lighting rig would be believable from the outside. The only way to check it would be to put the model in subdued light, so here it is just after sundown. obsv_car_walk_around_01.mp4

I build simple models. I build a lot of them. and then I modify them to make more models I use basic construction methods most of which are based on 4 and eight point extrusions. So tonight I sat down to build a monster. Nothing hyperreal, just a fun little dinosaur. The bodyhas eight points in cross-section and the limbs are fourpoint extrusions. About halfway through the dinosaur I though"what if I built a whole lot of components...diffferent body types, legs, wings, different heads..so that you could easily stitch your own monster together . A few components later I had the griffin. So here's the challenge..... build a component body and heads to join using an ei…

Hi all. Just a little info on what I'm doing before I get to what I am asking. I am an actor living in L.A. My son-in-law is a Director/DP and my daughter is also an actor. Mixed into these titles are writer (myself and my son-in-law (Drew)), animator/CG (me) and producer (pretty much all of us). We are in the beginning stages of making our first joint movie (a short subject). In my infinite wisdom and total disconnect with reality, I have written a movie that has a number of special effects, and I plan to render those effects in A:M, assisted by whatever tools I can muster. While the list is subject to change, so far I have a force field, of sorts, a floa…

This is a screenshot from an animated film I'm doing that will end up being around 9 minutes. It will be 3D with some 2D painted backgrounds, compositing, etc. This screenshot was largely from a 20 second test of my character, constraints, etc. etc. She comes up with the music box lid, and then dances around in a little repeated ballet move. The key turns, and her feet come off the pivot sometimes but that's intentional, because she's a character, not a doll. I'm quite happy with it so far, still tweaking (in between writing grant applications). Thanks to Vash, Colin, Josh, Vern and a bunch of other people I don't know. Sean

I've read several post in which people were noticing that the emitters were not totally transparent when a scene was rendered. Well Nancy shared a little trick with me in one of my posts that I thought was good enough to share with everyone. Many of you may know this already, but some may not. If you want to make an emitter disappear, here's the trick: Make a small TGA image with a transparent background and an alpha channel for the whole image. When rendered in AM you should see nothing. Now take that TGA and apply it as an image to the emitter mesh you want to hide. Here is the kicker: in the image properties under the mesh shortcut, change the property from col…

Well, this thread brings together a lot of other stuff I've posted on these boards, so bear with me. I'm still working on the full version of my "bathroom" scene, which is complicated enough that it requires storyboarding. Since the characters and set are already built, why not do the storyboards in 3D? Well, it turns out there are a lot of good reasons why not, but suffice it to say, 3D storyboarding is only worth doing for judging your characters' relative positioning, along with the corresponding camerawork. As soon as you start moving arms and heads, you're gonna wish you'd just picked up a pencil. On the plus side, 3d storyboards sure look a lot pretti…

I'm making a project that involves a solid-spoked wheel, much like many car wheels are today without hub caps. To cut down on the modeling I used some lathing and duplicate techniques. I based my lathe outline on a rotoscope diagram. I used two CPs at every corner to make a sharpish but still-beveled edge... This wheel has 8 spokes (with 8 holes in between) and a bump on each spoke. The easiest way to model a round bump or hole is to stitch it in on splines between two other splines. That means a minimum of four splines across for each instance of a hole and a spoke with a bump... To support 8 holes/spokes, i need to do a 32 cross sect…

I taught graphic design principles, eye candy skills, dos and don'ts of design, and more as relates to presentations—digital and otherwise—for the look of high class and professionalism. After doing the 2001 slit-scan project (https://forums.hash.com/topic/53303-2001-slit-scan-effects-simulated-in-am-with-mufoof/) using resurrected 2001 artwork (https://youtu.be/dujQGB-2EXw), I wanted to try some other graphics. The Mandelbrot Set is a wonderful source of interesting imagery. My college roommate, Mike Segor, who also went to that 1968 showing of 2001, had sent me some Mandelbrot work. Grist for the mill. He also contributed music for the final movie. The artwork: John Knoll has a fascinating video about slit-scan techniques (and shows a graphic of the Trumbull 2001 set-up at 5:07): https://vimeo.com/391366006 He discusses var…

This 'Manhattan Project' I am doing for Shawn Rogers (NewGuy) is coming along really nice... I decided that to do a proper NYC you need to also model what lies across the rivers... which is Staten Island, Brooklyn, Jersey, the Bronx and the Atlantic Ocean... among others. (Bridges, Statue of Liberty, ships...) The project is for the Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls... and next I will be modeling their stadium... so the zoom can continue right into midfield! Texturing is minimal... all is heavily stylized... just needed to capture the 'feel' of the city.
