Since I'm starting over, I always start with this. It's my favorite vehicle from my favorite movie. There are no decals, yet. I'm still building it. Eventually, it will have an R2 socket and completely animated. It comes directly from the 1977 schematics and my personal memory of having the physical model. It is a work in progress. It's awesome to have this outlet.

Here is a model of the New Horizons Pluto Spacecraft. Not that impressive, but a paying client is extremely happy with the final model. Animation and Texturing will be done by others. My contribution to the project is complete. I just provided the mesh model. New Horizons Link

Paul Harris of Scotia Publishing was looking for a modeller. http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6371 I suppose he found one, but I can't resist showing off my version with the reference image. Hope I don't cross any boundries here. ===================================================== It's not by any means a good likeness, but fair to close. I know he looks a bit older than the ref. I figure this is due to the elongation of the face and narrowing of the neck. The mesh needed more room for the mesh to be manipulated. The clothing is a bit too smooth, but I prefer not to deal with a dense mesh. At present the mesh is at 3044 patch count and sho…

Here is a character that I have been working on. I've got him rigged, except for mouth bones and poses. He does have a jaw so he can open and close. Three questions: 1) Is he engaging? 2) Does he need teeth? 3) Does he need eyelidds? Thanks! Scott

A number of people left me very nice comments on the AMStills gallery, so I thought a few of you may enjoy seeing a slightly re-worked hi-res version of the pic I entered in the March sci-fi contest. (the hi-res version is attached at the bottom of this post) A few comments on its making: The whole thing is really based on a lot of trickery and forced perspective, when it comes down to it. Luckily you can get away with that in stills most of the time! Breaking it down into parts: The lower city - nearly all of the small buildings are simply boxes with beveled tops. For the hi-res version, I went back in and added in some additional geometry t…

The lenses are clear, but they do block a lot of light to his eyes. I tried bumping up the ambience on the eyeballs, but that has the effect of washing out his irises (simple color decals). Is there a way I can brighten up his eyes without washing out the pupils? I'd rather not use geometry for the irises unless I absolutely have to. Thanks! Nos

Hi All, I'm currently working on this female head. After working with polygon modeling in 3DS MAX, it's a little difficult getting back to the spline modeling. I see that I'm getting unwanted creasing and indents on the face, especially around the cheek and near the eye. I've tried to fix the CP's as best I can. I didn't want to use too many CP's making the model more complex than it needs to be. Any suggestions.

About 8 months ago I made... well tried to make Big Daddy from bioshock. I have gotten somewhat better and always look at the Bioshock project as one of my 'first' works. I want to see how much better I have actualy gotten, so I'm redoing the project. The first picture you see is my old project when I desided it was 'finished'. The second is the refrance picture i used/am using. I will post updates of what I've been working on when it finishes updating.

i have lights around my ship, but they don't render for some reason. On the engines there are red lights and on the ship . . . i don't no why they didn't render. But, this is my space ship that i did, tell me what you think update: for some reason the red lights now render, but if you look close at the space ship, their are chain guns mounted on the top and on the glowing engines, the yellow lights that are just bone lights, set with no specularity, do not render.

I made this picture for my mom for her birthday. I made myself stay away from texture and realism for the most part, and tried to just focus more on the asthetic value of the picture a little more. It took probably 6 hours over the course of the week. The fir is always the biggest pain. Anyway, here it is.

Hey everyone! I thought I would let you all see my first model Im attempting in AM v.11. Its a screwdriver, a realistic one I might add . At least that is what Im trying to accomplish. I've been modelling what you see in the two images below for about 20-30 minutes, I did that in just that amount of time. Although, its not completed yet I think its pretty good so far seeing as it is my first model that I am doing in AM. Please tell me what you think so far . Click on the 2 links for shaded view and shaded/wireframe view of the screwdriver: Thanks Everyone Paul

This is the biggest format I ever had to output from A:M for. It only needed to be 30dpi, but at 32 feet wide, I had to crank out about 30K pixels wide. That certainly had my computer begging for more (memory)! I put some pictures of the finished billboard near the top of my home page: Atkinson Productions web site

Here is a first motion test for my bear character "Pana-Boon". I wanted to test the rig, and I have already starting working on the problem spots. There are several problems that I am currently working on. Some of them have to do with patches not receiving the correct color (neck) and others are problems with the mesh near the joints. Overall I think its staring to take shape. I have not used any smart skin yet. Its all bones and fan bones. Texturing needs to be done, especially the mouth, teeth, eyelids, etc. Finally he will be covered with the new version 11 hair. The rig has been completely built by myself. It uses Fk on the arms and IK on the legs. H…

I am attempting to model the head of Gollum. I used a couple images from the web as rotoscopes and modeled from that. I think the head looks ok as a model (better than other stuff I've done) but the only problem is it does not really look like Gollum. Can anyone tell me what they think the problem is? Maybe his head is too boxy/square? Also, is it too spline heavy? Any ideas for where to lighten it up would be helpful as well. Thanks! Thanks for any input. Hi, Here is a piece i'm working for a Visual Communication & Design project at school . It's meant to be either on a cliff face or over water so that the main view is of the ocean or something. The tables haven't been added in yet, and the Thom is just for checking scale (he's exactly the same size as me). Just posting it to see what people think of the design aspect. comments appreciated.

Hi. I decided to give greenscreening a try. I started off with dying a sheet green, which sort of worked, but ended up buying a peice of cycloth. This was filmed in my livingroom with my 2 kids. The whole procces was challenging and at times frustrating, but in the end I learned a ton and had fun. The quality is poor because I have a miny DV camera, my editing software is crude at keying, my animation is "developing", I had to compress the crap out of it to get it to 11 mb, wah, wah, wah. This is just the beginning. I am getting Final Cut Pro which will help with the keying, and I'm starting to understand how action blending works, I think. When I get FCP I want to redo …

Hi i've been working on this little animation for most of the weekend. Its two actions a run cycle and a jump. I decided to use mr ball pretty much since he doesnt have arms to have to worry about, and i was inspired by some of the other mr ball animation on the forum. The run is very close copy of a run cycle in "The Animators Survival Kit" by Richard Williams I know the right foot has some funny issues i just couldnt seem to fix at certain points, will try to tweek them later. mrball.mov

I'm making this DNA molecule project available in response to this thread. It's a little tricky to work with: the four nucleotides are different models, with each atom modeled as an eight-patch sphere. There's a separate model for the skeleton of a seven-base pair double helix composed of non-rendering splines, with an action that adds the nucleotides to it as action objects. The choreography contains three instances of the helix stacked on top of each other, with the bottom two instances having "translate to" and "orient like" constraints to the top instance. Basically, this molecule has a strand that repeats the sequence GATTACA three times, together with its comple…

Over the past couple of years and I have used the standard lighting setup. Over the past couple of weeks I have been playing with lights. I have a couple of questions. I am building a room with can lights (recessed lighting in the ceiling). I want the can lights to light the room in an addition I will have a fill light such as a lamp. When lighting a room such as this 1. Is it best to light from the model, action, chor? If you light within the model I have had some issues trying to get enough light in the room. In the chor it is tough to position the light and you have to add to the model for each chor. 2. I remember the Yves did a tutorial on ligh…

Well, I know that I start on a lot of models, post them in here, get help when needed, and then abandon making, much less thinking about finish them. Recently I got so upset that I erased all my files, models in the works, all the hopefuls I did for two, all my ABC, and TAoA:M. Yeah, that was stupid. Anyways, I started to do this model, after about a week break from A:M. I am working off of two different size rotoscopes, not a big problem, but I need help with this oddly shaped human head. To reassure you, I am not going to abandon this model because I get frustrated, I am going to finish the head, nice and smooth, or ugly and jagged. I need some hel…

Hi All, I tried the technique to build a tree as used by Brian Taylor who is working on Rustboy (www.rustboy.com). I think the results were quite good and this is a much faster technique when compared to using hair (or at leas that is my experience). Here is a quick summary of what I did. 1. Create a patch and past a Cookie Cut decal of leaves. 2. Animate the patch (by tweaking splines and cp's) to give a wrustling movement to the leaves. 3. Render as a QT with an alpha channel (do not use any compression for the QT, just use Animation). 4. Make a model of a tree trunk 5. Make a patch and add a decal of the animated QT as a Cookie Cutter. 6. …

This is a problem that arises from time to time as you all know. The spinning prop. Here’s how I handled it. I created a three frame action. I rotated the bone prop this way. Frame 0: 0 degrees. Frame 1: -120 degrees. Frame 2: -240 degrees. ( the plus or minus determines the direction of rotation, I wanted it clockwise from the pilot’s point of view) I added 10 percent blur. (Default is 20) But I was still getting a solid prop. To overcome this I made the blades 85 percent transparent. But in the action I only rendered frames 0 and 1. I did this because the blur won’t show up on frame 3. I’ve enclosed a single frame image as well as the actio…
