Hi Hashers I have to post this cos it is basically driving me nuts, so I thought one of you lovely lot could help me try and figure it out. I have attached an image which is a comp of two separate leaf textures I am working on. Both where created in exactly the same way and applied in the same way. Yet the one on the left has the obvious halos around it's edges the one on the right doesn't. Why am I getting this? I have tried using alpha channels incorporating anti-aliased edges and non-antialiased edges - both produce the same results. I have used defringe in Photoshop to ensure there are no white pixels on the borders of both set of leaves yet these orrible 'a…

I'm playing with IBL and placing an object in a scene with reflection ala Stian's tutorial. First I render out the background image which I then use as a camera rotoscope. Next the ground is set to Front Projection "on" in order to receive shadows, then I import a sphere with reflectivity set to about 35%. That's when I run into problems. The sphere, although it is not set to Font Projection "on", has a transparent image of the rotoscope on it. It's supposed to have the reflection of the environment sphere on it, not the rotoscope. What am I missing here? When I remove the rotoscope from the camera, the sphere has the correct reflections, but off course the ground i…

Hi i've been working on this little animation for most of the weekend. Its two actions a run cycle and a jump. I decided to use mr ball pretty much since he doesnt have arms to have to worry about, and i was inspired by some of the other mr ball animation on the forum. The run is very close copy of a run cycle in "The Animators Survival Kit" by Richard Williams I know the right foot has some funny issues i just couldnt seem to fix at certain points, will try to tweek them later. mrball.mov

hello there, i've been thinking of a project i have wanted to do for weeks, but i have my hands full, and i would like some help. there really isn't any "script" for this, but i do need models, at least models that have bones, color and textures (if possible). the project is about a studio that would have a little bit of everything in it, for example, there would be a floor for Animation Master, there would be a floor for Anime, there would be a floor for Bands, exe. and i thought, what if some of these characters from these different floors meet each other? would they understand each other? (Japanese: Anime vs. English) ? would they fight? would they make friends?…

I have tried deleting splines & re-adding them. This has solved a couple of the problem spots where I cannot make a 5 point patch. The others are stubborn...could I have some duplicate control points or something - if so how would I find them? Also, on four 5 point patches there are squiggly line artifacts even with porcelain. again - none of my attempts to fix have worked. Any suggestions? Problem_Shell.zip

Hi guys, I know I posted in OT, but I meant to post here so here it goes: Basically, I'm going to use this thread and the site to talk about stuff involving Crayon. Here, and on the site, I'll be giving updates and all that on how things are going. Anyhow, there's not much on the site yet but, I'll be updating it, with pictures and video and stuff. The URL is: http://crayon.avituchman.com/ Sometime tomorrow I'll add some storyboard pictures.

Hey guys... I'm working on this superhero-type named 'CrimeBomb... I have modelled quite a rigging delemma. Any advice on the best way to approach such a big-armed figure? Any rigging gurus out there want to try their hand? I'm sort of awaiting TSM2, learning what I can about fans and coggs and smartskins... thought I'd run it by the bunch of you, whom I highly regard. I saw a crab model on another forum and wondered if AM would be capable of similar. I think I convinced myself that AM is...mostly. The only thing missing from the model is about a hundred spikes. Not only do I not have time to model all that but I did some tests with displacement maps and if they didn't need so many patches, they would be perfect for such details. Anyway, this is as far as I'm taking it for now and wanted to show it.

Hey there. I am new... So, please excuse dumb questions. Here is my head model. The head on the left has a diffuse decal over the face, the other one does not. (See attached picture) Short of applying the diffuse map to the entire body, how do I smooth this transition? Just smooth the diffuse map out at the corners? What are shaders? Would that help? Any other general comments? This is my first try... I guess after this I a rig her? b pose her? c bone her? d attach to a body that is boned or not. Help - I would eventually like to animate her. Sorry for the newbie questions. Melissa

While working on a new WIP, I started playing around with hair. In the modeling window I groomed the hair just like I wanted only to discover that the grooming does not translate into the chor. In the chor the model looks just like it did before I groomed it. I have to mention that the model was already in the chor before I groomed it in the modeling window. I say this because I just did an experiment where I made a new chor and imported the groomed model into the new chor. This time the grooming transferred into the chor. I would have thought that hitting the spacebar would update the model with the grooming intact, but it doesn't. Is there another way to up…

I don't often bring images/animation out of the New Users Forum but from time to time someone posts something that I can only call inspirational. This is definitely the case with Glen Clarkson's 'Cavalcade of Rabbits'. Not only did it make me laugh but it was presented in such an innovative way, all while demonstrating the basic principles of Exercise 4: 'Move It', that I felt it needed a little promotion. Little touches like this really put the spotlight on what a little time, serious thought and effort can produce. Is this Showcase material? Maybe not. Yet here in its simplicity its great stuff never-the-less. Glen is still refining the …

About twelve years ago, when CD's were a hot new technology, I had a client who needed a logo/avatar for a "CD Studio". "The Bean" suddenly appeared as a doodle in the margin: a blobby character with pipestem arms and legs, no features, surfing on a CD with a stack of three over his head. He was never submitted, but I have somehow retained a fondness for him. Over the years, I have built, and re-built The Bean in evey 3D app. that passed through my hands. Now it's A:M's turn.

Bought a WWI flying game a few months ago. Given my weakness for flying things, it spills over into A:M. Got an itch to play with Hansa-Brandenburgs...here's the result. On Dec.11, 1917 a flight of three W-12s led by ObLtn. Friedrich Christiansen, was on the homeward leg of their patrol. Nearing the coast, the No.3 plane, the 'Tail-End Charley', spoted an Asta-Torres airship and dove to the attack. Christiansen and his other wingman turned back to join in, but by the time they arrived it was burning. Neither plane could add much to the process as the C27 was already going down. Being Flt. Leader, Christiansen claimed the kill, and it was confirmed. After the war, in …

Hi. I decided to give greenscreening a try. I started off with dying a sheet green, which sort of worked, but ended up buying a peice of cycloth. This was filmed in my livingroom with my 2 kids. The whole procces was challenging and at times frustrating, but in the end I learned a ton and had fun. The quality is poor because I have a miny DV camera, my editing software is crude at keying, my animation is "developing", I had to compress the crap out of it to get it to 11 mb, wah, wah, wah. This is just the beginning. I am getting Final Cut Pro which will help with the keying, and I'm starting to understand how action blending works, I think. When I get FCP I want to redo …

This is just a test render for a animation i intend to do in the near future... this is my first render with radiosity.... and i don't know... i think it's pretty cool. I kind of like how the walls look like cement, or at least they look like cement to me. I tweaked the cornell box a little-------> changed wall color, deleted the boxes inside, and changed the color that the lights project....in order to fit what i needed, and also added some speakers i made. For the animation: the robot has a cd player on the front of him, but i can't figure out how to model the cd tray. so i might just model a simple cd player, like the ones in cars, and just put …

With the help of KenH, and JohnArtbox, I was able to figure out how to get a model into AM V11, and have it look halfway decent! I had to edit the .obj before I brought it into AM to lighten it a bit, but it came in without a hitch, and as you can see looks great, thanks to Porcelain.mat. Anyway, my first tests, and more will follow. My next goal is to decal this head, and try displacement tests with it. Wish me luck!

Hi all, Did some more testing on my working-pipeline with my cartoony cokebottle Vette. 15h on PC ,1024x576 - 200 frames about 8 minutes each frame rendertime, 5 passes, shadows, reflections (ground 4%), matcap shader on the Vettes body, chrome mat on chrome parts, apple matcap on interior parts, fake rimlight mat on the whole model, threepointlighting of defaultchor, keylight 55% and Gloabl Ambiance type Global color white at 30 %. the model is "waterproofed" (thick doublesided bodyparts) because I inserted volumetric lights in it. One major drawback: Cant see the posesliders effects in realtime while I set the keyframes, though they are there when I…

Last summer I wanted to make a couple of short live-action videos of the Hulk. I started, but because of school in the fall, my project was halted! Now that I finished my first year of college i'm ready to start the project up again. Here's what I've done so far. Modeled a Hulk: Okay, I didn't really model it. I saw the one that came with my AM v11.1 and I knew I could mess with a little. All I did was a little smartskin tooling around, added hair, and gave him a little more texture. Is it the best Hulk ever? No, but it'll suffice for my thirst to entertain myself this summer before boot camp. If anyone can help me out with the model, please do. I'm still an ama…

I just rendered this cupboard twice, once with 0 multipass and once with 9x multi. Both renders came out somewhat blurry. Of course I checked the usual such as depth of field (off), reflections soft (off), fog (off), etc. In the options, I checked "use settings from this dialog" and only have shadows and reflections on in the rendering options. I'm using nothing other than Yves 20 light skylight. Got me stumped.

I've started some tests for this animated Holiday Greeting for my company. The render I'm posting is a very preliminary test and I'm posting it because there's quite a bit of pixelation in the ornament at bottom right. I've tried rendering both as QT and AVI, and gone as high as nine passes to try to remedy it. Also changed my driver from Open GL to Direct3D v8, and nothing's helped. Comments appreciated! Gerry

I dug out my Sgt. Tubbs character [the guy in my avatar pic.] and am trying to work with hair. After massaging it about [ in V.11, about six months agao] I discovered that even if I hid everything except the moustache, the hair applied itself to the whole model. Tonight, I copied the moustache into a new .mdl and applied the hair to it, thinking to bring Tubbs and it together in the choreography. The b/w pics are from the modeling window. The hairs are overly fine and I think I could do with fewer if I made them thicker. It's the choreography that has me boggled. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with what I see in the model window. I tried to do a screen r…
