Ok, I seem to have munged up the cp's by the base of the arm/ armpit a bit, but other than that things look ok. I'm pretty happy with the way that I managed to get the hand attached. I think it turned out best. All I have left to attach is the foot and the head, and now that I think I have the hang of things I may change the head slightly. [attachmentid=18354]

Have you ever spent hours and hours working on an image, tweaking the littlest things, changing them, changing them back... going through the entire process all over again... only to ask yourself, "Was there a point to all of that?" Here's an image that applies... for no good reason... I started tweaking rabbit... then hours went by...

I'm making a sci-fi scene and have run into some problems with a crystal that I can't explain. the first thing was the fact that I applied glow to it, and it worked fine the modeling window and had no glow in the choregraphy. But now the refraction has made color from the object inside fill the entire thing up and make it look solid. I have no idea what's goning on here. Here are some picture so you can see what I'm talking about.

I'm currently working on a project for school where I have to make some kind of room, in this case I'm making it an expensive condo in hawaii. I want it to look as photorealistic as I can. I'll have pictures very soon, I'm really happy with how its turning out! Anyways, I just have a quick question, one of the props is a wine bottle. I have the model all laid out now I'm working on the materials. I cant get the light to refract right through the glass! Is there any way to do this? I've tried the refraction and density setting, but they just dont cut it.. has anyone dealt with this before? Thanks! ::EDIT:: Alright I want to start this off with a picture, so …

Did some experimantation with Image based ligthing and an HDRI picture along the line of Stians Tutorial. Managed to get an effect from the enviroment map on the big sphere to be visible on the vehicles. But what amazes me is: There is no visible difference, when in the chor properties I additionally activate the HDRI image or if I keep the default set to no picture at all. ( See pictures A and B ) So, what does the property there do? building_probe.zip

Hey All!!! So if I have a character lighted to my needs using HDRI.....How can I render just the character without the Image background model. Basically with an alpha/ exr(preferably) This would be for the purpose of compositing the character with the IB lighting into another composite.... similar to alpha channel rendering in normal lighted shots. Thanks for any suggestions, William

I started modelling this head in wings, so I could block out the main shapes, then put in A:M. It still took me quite a while to get this far, but It was faster and turned out better than starting in A:M. I'm not very good at heads. Feel free to make comments. The eyes are somewhat anime, and I need to do more around the nose, as well as endless smoothing.

Started this yesterday and finished most of the splining for the face today. Here is a quick render. The decal applied is the reference image used to model it. Rendered with AO and one light using 1 decal and the Skin shader. No SSS because it always comes out black ... I still need to finish modeling the lips and eyelids, and then create eyes that are non-decal. I don't like how the nose looks, and am having trouble finding good reference on how it looks from the side : \ I am going to try to make this the full thing with hair and what not so bear with Comments and Crits welcome on the splinage ... Hello, all. Well, this week's Animation Showdown got me really down, so I decided to cheer myself up with a new head. (Some people say a new brain is in order instead, but I just laugh at them. Hysterically. Until the persons in white coats come...) Anyway, here he is thus far, in a quick turnaround. He's my usual low-patch cartoony fare, but I think he might have potential for the future. I do wonder where to go with him next, as far as clothes and a body of some sort. Right now I'm leaning toward a gas station uniform, but I don't know why. Suggestions welcome. turnaroundhead_sor.mov

I have been wanting to do an engine in too much detail for a while now, and there was a tossup between radial, rotary (not Wankel), or steam. and radial won out. I fear the patch count will make using it for an aircraft unlikely, barring an upgrade in my video card. I tried using a displacement maps for the fins but the render times went from the current less than 1s to close to around twenty seconds. So far I am mostly done with one cylinder, it still needs spark plugs, and I might want to add an emitter plate for the exhaust.

Hello fellow Hashers. My name is Adam, (AKA LordPython), and this is my first post. A little about me: Age: 25 Location: Ga 3D History: Started learning 3DS Max, and Maya 4.5. However learning by my self from books was taking too long. I have seen A:M down at Dragon*Con every year for the past 4 years and I would always stop by their demo and watch. Every time I would think "It would really be cool to have that" but then I would move on. Well this past *Con I finally said "ah what the heck, I could really use it" and got it. That was 7 days ago, and I now happily present to all of you, my first unassisted animation. Although it's only 4 seconds long,…

With the help of KenH, and JohnArtbox, I was able to figure out how to get a model into AM V11, and have it look halfway decent! I had to edit the .obj before I brought it into AM to lighten it a bit, but it came in without a hitch, and as you can see looks great, thanks to Porcelain.mat. Anyway, my first tests, and more will follow. My next goal is to decal this head, and try displacement tests with it. Wish me luck!

I've started on a new model last night. Unfortunatly, I don't have internet access at home, just work so I don't have any images.......yet. My question regards hair (see Topic Title) I've avoided modeling hair forever, simply because I suck at it....of course if I had taken the time to try it and practice it I wouldn't suck at it. Anyway, I'm starting to play around with it and the question is should I use helmet hair...or wait until my copy of AM v12 or 13, which ever the latest is, comes in to use the new hair system (should only be a couple more days). I'll be monitoring this post all day so any feedback would be greatly appreciated. By the way, does anyone have any go…

Help. I am still new with AM and I have been feeling better about modeling but as I put my models under the lights I can see all the areas that need help. For example, I have been following the TWO project and I decided that I would try to model something on my own. Here is the render of the witch I started. I wanted her to have a wrinkled face but I have creases that I did not know I had. I have started the tutorials again to see if I am missing something. Any help is appreciated.

I am working on a project and decided to create an object in Version 13 beta one. I have created a face and began to work on the mouth portion of the character. I tried to extrude the inner lip and then scale. The extrusion will only scale on one of the axis. If I create a extrsuion outside the character's face the extrusion and scaling will work correctly. Also, after I copy/flipped/attached the face, the mirror mode works only some of the time. I have sent a report on both but wanted to know if anyone had run into this or do I have a setting wrong after installing beta one Steve

I am at the end of my ideas. I have made a mov file in after effects of letters being written out. I was going to animate the pencil chracter to follow the mov file in rotoscope to get the action and AM allows the rotoscope to be rendered as well. So I have tried for four days to get this to work without success. It appears to be working in the chor or action but when rendered the rotoscope is not in the correct location and it plays from the beginning of the animation even though it has been key frame to start and end at certain location. So does anybody have a thought of how to follow the script I created in after effects or is there another way to create the…

I have started rendering our animations. The first picture is from intro chor and the second is from part two. The animation was broken into 5 parts for animating and rendering. The settings are the same in each chor and this was rendered on one machine and then on net render. Notice the inside part of tool box that there is a shadow? has anyone run into this? The first picture was the first chor and the second picture is the from the second chor. All the other chor are rendering with the black shadow on both a stand alone machine or one in the net render farm. Any thoughts????? Hi- I’ve recently purchased A.M. and have realized that as great a product as it is; I’m not going to be able to come up to speed quickly enough for a project I’ve been volunteered for! In four weeks, I’ve got to do a presentation for about 400 school employees showing them the two-year history of the building of their new school. Here’s the A.M. part-I need to show a character walking from the front of the new school straight toward the audience (about a 100 feet or so) and then have the character give a small speech (actually introducing a DVD movie). The character needs to be a cartoon version or caricature of the school district’s superintendent. A f…

A magazine I read is running a short film contest on Youtube - and so naturally I entered an animation (all the others are live action). Here's the problem. It seems that at least one other contestant is continually giving my animation 1 star to lower its rating. I would really appreciate anyone who could go to Youtube and give me a good star rating (the more the better) to counteract this. Here's the link to my video. Thanks to all.

The Cookie Cutter is a great Idea. And it seems to work MOST OF THE TIME. But here is a case where it just breaks down. I have 1000's of Trees. Where I used rotated cross sections of photos of trees. This produces great looking - fast render. But there are some trees that do not render correctly. They display the Tree Image and black triangles get added randomly to areas that are transparent. When doing Locked Render - It displays good --------- But when doing full render the black triangles show up. It seems to occur as the objects / trees have crossing intersections with other trees. As the Camera moves - the locations where the triangles s…

I'm trying to set up a mast light with 3 different colored lights. I want to be able to turn the glow on for the desired color, red, amber and green. Not all at once. Any thoughts? I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this - I tried the new users area but no response. I'm trying to mimic Coopers tutorial. I started with the nose and rotoscopes as he did. I get the general concept but I'm really struggling with a few parts around the nostril. I realize some of this is just learn by trial and error but I could really use some suggestions, I've hit a brick wall on this. Here is a pic, note especially the arrowed areas, but the whole thing in general needs work.
