Almost three years ago there was a little contest called Lost Worlds. I started an entry but didn't have time to finish. Today I started reworking the old project with a different color scheme and different materials although the premise is still the same.

Hi everybody... The image used in this calendar was created entirely in A:M. Open every day a new present till x-mas... Especially funny and well done is for example present 2. (but there are many good once!) Just to mention it: These clips are not created by 3We (or you will see it in the credits). It is just a compilation of funny or very well made commercials. Have fun! http://advent.3we.de See you *Fuchur*

I decided to take a stab at modeling a 63 vette. So far I just have the dog house, hood, and front tires. It's got a long way to go and a lot of detail missing but it's starting to look like something. I used Photoman's tut on the bike tire to make my tires. It worked perfectly. Thanks.

I'm asking can any one please make some woman action animations for the Thom model? Simple ones like walking, running and standing postures. Anything els possibly creative if you can.....

I'm starting a new project in my (rare) spare time. I'm planning to build a Meganeura, an ancient dragonfly that was extinct a long time ago. These insects had a wingspan of 70 - 75 cm (~ 2.4 ft). I'm not not building one in A:M, I'm building one for real, RC controlled and supposed to fly. Well, actually it doesn't have to be able to fly in our current atmosphere, this is an experiment to see if a dragonfly of this size could fly with the atmosphere pressure as it is now. The reason for this is that some scientists have reason to believe the atmosphere pressure was much higher in those times, estimated about twice the current pressure. I think it would be almost impossib…

Not technically a WIP just yet, but I wanted to start a placeholder thread. I'm going to have to put my "Nightcallers" work aside as it's the time of year when I have to start thinking about the company Christmas animation. I need to sketch out some ideas (I like to show three) and pitch them to my boss. Then it's off to the races. As long as it's creative and catchy, she's pretty flexible (see: the Christmas Snail) and likes me to have fun with it. This year I'm determined to center it on actual CHARACTER ANIMATION, yes I said it. So that's what I'll be pitching. Now I just need to come up with some ideas!

As some of you may already know, Eric has been working on an EVA pod for my 2001 Discovery project. I was at the next stage of working on the models, which was trying to come up with a Dave Bowman model. Suffice it to say, that didn't work out really well. Figure I will come back to him later. Much later. I think I need to go through the face tutorial again and try to find some good pictures of Keir Dullea. At some point, I need to get a really good Bowman model completed. Anyway, I've been off work the past two days due to some minor surgery, and was getting pretty bored. Not really into watching soap operas during the day, so I thought I would give an EVA pod a go …

Ok. testing, testing 1 2 3 4 with this month's 11 second dialog problems I see: 1) rigging, modeling issues with arms, hands 2) lip sync for "yesterday I ate" starting around frame 155 3) hands penetrate around frame 95-96 4) ??? (not done with costuming, texturing) Comments welcome (and nooooo...ya won't have to go vote for me...unless you absolutely, positively want to wade thru 6 billion entries all with the same dialog) coccoonshiny8mpeg4medPCMhintedstream.mov

Yay! Finally something moving - I need to redo the cp assigning/weighting and play with constraints so the body stops doing goofy things when I try to move the bones, but its a start. I tried to upload an AVI file but it says I'm not allowed. Wonder whats up w/ that.

Well, I guess the Discovery needs a cockpit, so here goes. Again, it would be nice to have some accurate blueprints to work from, but the model is getting there. Some of this is guess work as the cockpit is not completely shown in the movie. Still have the overhead panels to complete along with the seats and rear wall section. Once the model is complete, it will be posted in the models section to go along with the Discovery model. Al

Hello All, This is my first attempt at a car model. It's more a study to see if I can model low poly vehicles quickly for use in real time simulations in Dark Basic Pro. I've got a good workflow going converting from A:M to .X, by way of exporting as an .obj, then opening and texturing in Ultimate Unwrap, and using UU's .x exporter. This model is "loosley" based on the RX-7, and, I didn't quite get all the lines, but, I just want to know if I'm heading in the right direction. Its just the body now, all in one piece. I'm not trying to get every little detail, because for realtime it would be just too many polys. Mostly, it would be nice to get the basic shapes of ca…

Hi all, Did some more testing on my working-pipeline with my cartoony cokebottle Vette. 15h on PC ,1024x576 - 200 frames about 8 minutes each frame rendertime, 5 passes, shadows, reflections (ground 4%), matcap shader on the Vettes body, chrome mat on chrome parts, apple matcap on interior parts, fake rimlight mat on the whole model, threepointlighting of defaultchor, keylight 55% and Gloabl Ambiance type Global color white at 30 %. the model is "waterproofed" (thick doublesided bodyparts) because I inserted volumetric lights in it. One major drawback: Cant see the posesliders effects in realtime while I set the keyframes, though they are there when I…

Well, it's probably way overdue that I post a WIP thread on this project, so here's what I've got so far: This is the body for one of the two characters. Today I'll be working on modeling the head, texturing and rigging him. The other character is going to be cloned from this completed model. I'll need to make some minor changes to differentiate the two, like the other character will have longer sleeves, a thinner build, some minor tweaks to the face, and different hair/facial hair. But for all intents and purposes, the brunt of the work is going to be done on this character (Rigging, facial setup, etc) and the other character will just be a duplicate. Se…

So, I'm jumping in and starting modeling on a short for submission in a film festival Film Festival Topic Discussion. The movie will be a Christmas Story of sorts. The main character is Old Man Willies. I started on his head..made one goof after another, then decided to use Sire Nigel as a starting point. After beheading Nigel, I then started to push and pull control points to get the look I was looking for. Here he is: crits please.

I've been inspired by Christmas Tauntauns on You Tube, so I thought my first toon should be a Christmas one too. I wanted to share some of the models I've been working on to get some feed back. The first is going to be the Captain of the Toy Soldiers Uniform, the next is the Gingerbread house and then finally the Christmas tree (which kind of bothers me) I'm thinking of redoing the tree, using the hair system to make the needles and get a more realistic look, but the lights... any pointers? Right now, glow is just turned on, is there a way to make the bulbs brighter and flash sequentially? Anyway, thanks for taking a peek.

Started working on the Pod Bay interior for the Discover model. To make this model it's own complete set, I am going to include the Pod Bay doors and front wall sections (interior and exterior). The slider to control the doors will be part of this model now, and not the Discovery. So far, I have the rear and left walls modelled (with temporary textures on them). The floor and ceiling are blocked out as well. It's been tricky trying to get everything to scale without having any blue prints to work from, just screen grabs from the movie. The front section with the pod bay door openings, is just a temporary piece so I can get the other parts modelled and scaled in place…

I've set myself a challenge tonight. I'd like to see if I can go from sketch to usable character in two hours. The character is a Maxwell -- a sort of demon, or imp, based roughly on child proportions. At the end of two hours, I'd like to have: Produced front and side sketches Scanned them as rotoscopes Modelled the character Added the 2001 Rig Textured vinyl-like wrinkles where the skin bends in certain places This won't be a full-screen character, and a lot of fine detail would be eaten up by the noise I'll have to add to the final layout. (I'll ultimately be building a scene around a noisy, low-light photoshoot.) I'll check in tonight at 10:00, …

had a few free evenings lately and put together a living room mostly of models i´ve made some time ago, tried to fake a radiosity feel, so it would be suitable for animation... this render in 1024x768 took about 50 minutes (16pass) on my 2 year old mac book pro, a vga resolution with 9 passes takes about 15 minutes. a lot of time goes into computing the reflections in the window, for a still it would be no problem to fake it with a decal, but for animation? the lighting setup was a mixture of bulb and klieglights as described in yves tutorial (but only one bulb with only one ray casting shadows for faster rendering), but i mixed it also with heiners skylighter (thanks for…

Hi! Been a while since Ive done anything major in A:M. So I wanted to once again expand my modeling skills. So to do that I decided I want to model my camera (At least my digital one ). My camera is a Canon Rebel XT. The lens I will model with it will probably be my Sigma 15-30mm F/3.5-5.6, which is a big lens. Eventually I want to model all my camera gear (Film cameras, all my lens, flashes, tripod, etc). I just started the process, the model is in its very rough stages right now: I will post an AO render when there is enough to look good Photoman

As the title says, this is the linkage used by steam locomotives to allow them to move forward or in reverse. The idea of splining the convoluted shapes and transitions intimidated me so much that I kept putting off starting them for months. But I finally bit the bullet and I think they can stand up to an arm's length inspection. The quasi rectangular frame (which is about 6 ft. long) has a close approximation of the final cast iron texture for all the parts but the Playdough colours on the other parts are just to ease inspection.

I a taking a new run on this: Lets´say I have down some muscle smile for the right half of my model in a pose. How would I go about creating a new pose mirroring the musclepose to the left side? Probably asked this before, but since I never get mirroring muscle poses in a symetrical model to work, maybe I need some more explanation. Any help anybody?

Hey Spliners! Been awhile since I did any 'show-n-tell'...I've been busy, and A:M V15.0E is at the CORE of my operations. Here are two recent jobs, one for Healthy Balance fruit juice and the other for HoMedics new water filter-er. I'm having good results with Yves new ENVIRONMENT SHADER, but I still tend to render with reflections ON anyway. Both of these animations were needed in HD (720P) and average render times were around 4 minutes per frame, totally acceptible for an overnight render. The juice bottle is actually an engineering file imported to A:M as a .OBJ prop, and given dummy attributes right in the choreography(color, transparency, reflectivity, specular, refr…

It's been a while since I've done any real modelling in A:M. Stian's Cathedral and Eric's Nautilus and Millenium Falcon have inspired me to give it a go again (that and the carpal tunnel is doing pretty good right now). I had modelled the Discovery from 2001 - A Space Odyssey in a poly modelling program a while ago, and thought it would be great to get back into modelling in A:M with. So, here goes nothing... 2001 is one of my all time favorite Sci-fi films. It even still looks great watching it today. I first created an 'inner hull' sphere. It is relatively low in patches, as most of it won't even been seen. Next, I created a very high patch (over 4…

I'm doing a "fly through a city" animation. Here's what I've got so far. There's going to be lots of motion blur and movement so these buildings don't have to be perfect, but am I missing anything obvious? Does anything stand out? I'd appreciate any comments. I'm thinking right now there's too many lights and the buildings need to be a little more varied. Thanks.

Hi all, Long time now, since we had a challenge .... so the idea occurred to me: Why not let`s make some minichallenge for "this time of the year"? Take or build your favourite chara-model, change him into a Santa Claus and do some very small animation with him like waving into the camera, ringing a bell, presenting some gift etc. at best include some gag and well that`s it. Should be fun and not to much work and we all would have some christmasgreetings to send to our friends and also maybe get some christmas props for everybody to use. By the way, somebody has some deer or elk, he likes to share? I would suggest a deadline of 1…

I used the dynamic constraint on one of my model characters. It's been working really well. When they walk, certain body parts move almost realistclly. However, the biggest issue has been when I render the walking animation to video file, the dynamic effect stops moveing or does'nt move on the video as much as they moved on the basic action screen mode. I'm wondering is there a certain configuration you have to set in the rendering properties to see the dynamic constraint movements in the renderd video files or is it something else that I'm doing wrong? Any one please help!!!

It's been a while since I posted anything... Just haven't had the time to play around. But I'm taking an animation class this semester, so I had a good excuse to start messing with A:M again This is one of the things I'm working on right now. It's not for class, just for fun. I've wanted to do it for a while, and since I left my flash drive with the files for my class project at school, I figured this weekend would be a good time to get started. I'm working on a Chibi-style character. Chibi is the big-head little-body style, like the sprites from the old Final Fantasy games. I'm actually working on an Oppai Chibi character. (Oppai roughly translates as "Busty…

It's been awhile - I couldn't even tell you how long; maybe as much as two years. Lack of funds, lack of processing power, lack of that extra computer or two, lack of time, etc. I had to make a choice between AM and guitar and I chose guitar. Things have not gone quite as planned, but how often in life do they? There hasn't been a day that I haven't missed playing in the realms of 3D modeling and rendering and I finally decided that it's become enough of a distraction that I need to scratch the itch. Guitar is still my overwhelming priority but I'm going to start spending a little time each day working with AM again. I can't say how much time that will be but it'll almost…
